Retirement was supposed to be peaceful... until murder crashed the tour.
When recently widowed librarian Sally Harper sets out in her new RV with her faithful German Shepherd, Agatha, she's finally fulfilling the dream she shared with her late husband—to see America's natural wonders. The Grand Canyon seems like the perfect place to start their adventure.
But when Sally joins a three-day guided tour, her librarian's eye for detail notices tension bubbling beneath the surface. There's the enthusiastic young guide Tyler, the curmudgeonly geology professor Elmer Watkins, his estranged daughter Celia, and the wealthy Henderson couple whose strained politeness barely masks their hostility.
When Professor Watkins plunges to his death during a sunrise hike, officials quickly rule it an accident. But Sally isn't convinced. The missing camera, disturbed footprints, and the professor's cryptic final words about rock formations "not being what they should be" suggest something far more sinister.
Armed with her research skills, observant nature, and Agatha's keen nose, Sally begins investigating. She soon discovers the professor's geological survey threatened a multi-million-dollar resort development—and someone was desperate enough to kill to keep those findings buried.
As Sally digs deeper, she realizes retirement might be more exciting than she planned. And in the magnificent landscape of the Grand Canyon, she'll need all her wits to avoid becoming the next victim.
First in a delightful new series featuring an unconventional sleuth whose librarian skills and canine companion make them a force to be reckoned with.
Cute little cozy mystery of course with a loyal German shepherd ,Agatha on board. Mrs Harper, a retired librarian and recent widow, owner of Agatha, decided to fulfill her and her husband’s dream of traveling cross country in an RV. Their first stop is the Grand Canyon. They are enjoying camping life, hiking, seeing new sights and exploring nature. Tyler is a guide for the camp ground taking people on hikes to see beautiful sites. Elmer Watkins is a highly respected geologist, his daughter Cecilia who is also involved in geology, and the a land developer,Donald and his wife embark on a sunrise hike when the unthinkable happens. Donald, the land developer who wanted to build a hugh resort on private property next to the campground and right on the edge of the Grand Canyon and Elmer the geologist who was standing in his way with his geological reports that the site was unstable for development were hiking with the group including the tour guide Tyler who also had an interest in acquiring a position with the development company when all of a sudden Elmer falls to his death. What really happened to him? Was this just an unfortunate accident or a murder? His camera was missing as was his notebook he always wrote in. Later it was discovered that his computer was also missing. What really happened on the edge of that cliff? Was Tyler involved? Cozy mystery! Gotta read it to find out what happened.
This is the first in the series. The main character is Sally and she is a widow. her husband and her had always talked about getting an RV and visiting all the national parks So now she is off by herself to see the parks in his memory. First stop is the Grand Canyon and she signs up for a walking tour. The people in her group are kind of strange and then one of them ends up dead slipping off the side of the canyon. The cops are saying an accident but Sally is sure it was murder. The top cop doesn't take kindly to her looking into it and then his daughter starts to back her. Can Sally figure this outs before it's too late?
Sally is a strong woman to take it upon herself to travel alone and then to discover what is truth. There were some that seemed to indicate someone else as a murderer. Good job.
Very interesting short story, loved the good girl, agatha!! Very interesting info about the grand canyon, makes me want to go there to see it for myself!! Good for her, buying an RV, travelling to national parks, honoring her husbands wishes.. Thank u
These books look alike but are stand alone, relatively short and filled with action instead of lengthy descriptions. Good characterization and surprises. Enjoy!
