Collection of three novels. The first one Little Red Gem Ruby is in love with Leo Culver, in their final year of high school she finds herself pregnant. Not knowing how to deal with it and afraid to tell Leo, Ruby picks a fight with him to prove how he feels. After running off mad and crying in her mothers Jeep she has an accident. Afterwards she finds herself in town and sees her half sister Audrey who finally convinces Ruby she is a ghost. All she wants is to get back to Leo and show him she loves him. All she manages to do is screw up more lives then her own
Ruby was your typical teenager wanting Leo to prove his love. Leo did love her he was torn apart after her death, he had a hard time dealing. I liked the story, it shows how trying to force people and feeling can back fire on you. That you have to learn to depend on yourself first.
The second story Feedback deals with three teens waiting for a organ transplant and the man that ends of dying to they can live. Ethan James is waiting for a kidney transplant when all he wants is to play ice hockey. Florida Bowman wants to be a dancer and is waiting for a kidney. Jake Inala has liver disease. Their lives will come together because of Dylan Black. Dylan a CIA agent is investing Hank Miller of Pharmaceutical company for releasing these diseases into the community. After the three teens are abducted they realize Dylan lives in them through their new organs.
Suspense and mystery abound in this story. Having Dylan in them the teens can do things they never thought they could. They ban together to stop Hank.
The third and final story is The Bird with the Broken Wing. Ben goes off to war and Rachael joins him. Jet hates her life and her father. Taking sleeping pills and drinking a bottle of alcohol she finds herself in a place with Ben and Rachael. Ben and Jet believe they are in a rehab, Jet for the suicide attempt and Ben for losing parts of memory. and suffering from PDST. Rachael has been Ben's guardian angel his whole life and she tries everything to get him to remember what happened so he can cross over. When all along it was her purgatory they were in.
Jet was great she kept acting like she was on vacation. Never wanting to deal with what happened even though Rachael pushes both her and Ben to talk about what they went through. Ben didn't want to remember the war and the things he had done, but that wasn't what was holding him back.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review
First off, I want to say what a great deal Curious is. You get three full-length paranormal novels for one great price.
Out of the three stories, my favorite was Feedback. There was just something about the voice in this novel that really drew me in. There has been lots of talk in the media over the years about whether donor recipients take on some of the traits of the donor. In Feedback this is taken to the extreme for an action-packed story that is an fast-paced as it is exciting.
The Bird with a Broken Wing was full of twists and turns, leading to a rather surprise ending. Though not mentioned in the blurb, character Jet stole the story. Told in a mix of past and present, the lives of the characters were slowly revealed in this rather heart-wrenching novel. The prose flowed beautifully, and vivid character development really brought the characters to life. The only reason this wasn't my favorite of the three-- it was a touch too angsty for me.
Little Red Gem was the story of a teenage girl whose boyfriend was not only her life but her obsession in death as well. Main character Ruby is a hard character to love, but also a hard character to hate. Queen of the bad choices, she makes them in life and death. As the story progressed, she grew on me, and I couldn't help rooting for her to find her slice of happiness.
