Well crafted as always.
Nuttall seldom disappoints and Elliot is a sympathetic character. His purpose is to show what organized military can do against a tribal coalition of powerful individuals. But, it's hard not to want him to be magical and explore organized, procedural warfare using sorcery and magitech.

short but a good continuation
I enjoyed the first volume of the series quite a bit, but this one was a little short but covered the ground and I am curious as to what will come next. I must admit I am a Nuttall fan and read most of what he writes.

If you haven't read the earlier books in this series go do so now
This story while well written and interesting will be much more interesting and comprehensible if the earlier books have been read. I do hope there is a happy ending in store for Elliott in future books.

short and sweet
A good story and falls right into the stuck in magic universe.
I am disappointed that no beta readers were used as there were so many typos and grammatical errors as well as misspelled words that made little sense as part of the dialogue
