Thrills, action, suspense, and dangerous sexual chemistry lead to an stunningly explosive climax in One Mile Deep - book 2 of the Long Time Dying series

Private Detectives, business partners and lovers, Eva Roberts and Dan Bradley are back in action, just as their heated love affair is hitting the rocks.
When DI Rowntree asks Eva to help a foreign girl on the run from sex traffickers, Eva can hardly refuse. But when Eva meets Zdenka Kruz, a difficult situation spins into a mystery as nothing goes according to plan. Eva’s old flame James Winstanley reappears to lure Eva to a tryst… meanwhile Zdenka Kruz seems committed to self-destruction at Dormammu - a private club of vice, sin and violence hidden in the heart of their home town.
Eva is suspicious of millionaire club owner Jon Chesterton’s intentions towards Zdenka, and determines to save her from his designs, but Eva’s tenacity causes lies to unravel and danger to explode all around them.
Will Eva’s life ever be the same after rescuing Zdenka Kruz? Can she resist a steamy lust for James Winstanley?
Deceit, passion, murder and thrilling action combine as Eva falls headlong into a dark conspiracy one mile deep… and Dan can only look on as his fate is determined by his enemies.

Hello folks,
My name is Solomon Carter, and I am the author of the Roberts and Bradley PI crime thriller series, The Last Line international thriller series, the DI Hogarth Darkest series and more. I write mysteries, crime and thriller novels and more besides.

I was born in Southend, Essex and lived there for most of my life apart from eventful student days in South London. But my life in Southend was even more eventful still. I ended up working in a string of jobs including as a jobcentre clerk, a book seller, tutor for youth with low skills and low self esteem, mortgage broker, and latterly manager of a food bank which dealt with all kinds of interesting people facing all kinds of eye-opening, jaw dropping problems. Because of these ear-to-the-ground jobs the majority of my novels are set in Southend. In 2016 I moved to North Cornwall because I liked the idea of never-ending holidays - but I also write almost every single day. My aim is to write action-packed thrillers and page-turning mysteries that readers love and my hope is to get better at what I do with every book across each and every year.

I like to give away lots of free books as part of what I do. If you would like to receive some of these and get the exclusives on offer, than you're invited to join my free readers group at SolomonCarter.net. I won't spam you, just send the occassional email with news on the latest books and forthcoming freebies.

And if you want to see the memes, personal shares and other oddball stuff I do, then you can join me at Facebook via www.facebook.com/solomoncarterwrites and join the fun there too.

What I am good at: telling stories
What I am bad at: dancing, being patient.
What I love: nature, the seaside, adventures
Writers I heartily recommend: Lee Child, Ian Rankin, Henning Mankell, Val McDermid, Harlan Coben, Robert Crais.
Writers I need to read more of: Val McDermid, Ian Rankin, Michael Connelly and others.
Other things I do beside writing: at present I like to keep my running going to balance out the sitting behind a laptop (a habit inspired by Haruki Murakami's 'What I talk about when I talk about running' - a great book).
-I am currently doing surf lessons. When in Rome, as they say...
-Getting out into nature as the weather allows.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Until then I'll keep on writing. Or running. Or surfing. Or chasing my children around the house.

All the very best,
Solomon :)

Another case for Eva and Dan sees them attempting to save a girl caught up in a sex trafficking operation - but nothing is simple.

This story also focuses on how Eva is feeling about her relationship with Dan, which mixes with the case in various ways.

I did enjoy it - its action and plot, the twists, turns and surprises. It tackled a disturbing topic very well.

Overall, worth reading and recommended.

A cracking read

His books are intelligent reading. I like the characters gritty, polished, Private Eyes. This book focuses on human trafficking, I recommend this author. Can't wait to read more.

To many heads on the Hydra

Carter had a good premise but it got bogged down into much confusion. Somehow the characters never caught up with the plot, or visa versa. Some entertainment but very erratic. All I can say is I read it.

I read the second book to see if there was improvement. I'd say slightly but the Dan and Eva "relationship" is getting old. And just doesn't carry with them being PI's together and having a relationship. For me it just doesn't work.

Didn’t enjoy this one as much seemed a bit disjointed. Still not a bad read though.

Not too bad but the relationship of Eva and Dan seems to become the main topic in places and in my opinion is overdone and not entirely realistic.

Good exciting story but let down by slapdash proofreading and, considering it is by an English author, about English private investigators and set in England there are far too many Americanisms.

this was a great follow up to book #1. For once I read them in order and it really helped. I loved the story and the characters.

'One Mile Deep' pulled me in from the start. I was already hooked on this series from book one, 'Out With a Bang'. The storyline is full of thrills, action, suspense, drama and deceit. The way it played out had me wondering what was going to unfold next. The characters were great. Dan and Eva are a great private investigator duo. They seem to compliment each other, yet they also hold back as each one goes through different personal battles. I look forward to the next book in the 'Long Time Dying' series. A great add to your tbr list. Recommended read.

One Mile Deep – Long Time Dying is a part of a fast paced, suspenseful, crime mystery series. The author doesn't waste time being overly descriptive and writes in a style typical of mass market detective stories. To the point, clear, matter of fact with just a touch of descriptiveness.
It is instantly clear what the story is about, what the characters are like, who they are and what is happening at each stage of the story which begins ... Movie Review – Trade of Innocents (2012) | Katarina Nolte

I enjoyed this second in the series. The story line is one I like and on the wholee written in a style I enjoy. However there are a number of errors which good editing and proof reading would sort out. These make for a feeling of amateur publishing which is a pity. One more thing and this may be just me but I often got the feeling that material was being repeated and again a little editing would sort this out. However this didn't spoil the read but it might have got 5 stars.

Well, to start the book the two main characters are separated, their business is now down to one person and she is doing fairly well. Then, word comes to her through an old friend of his that he is on vsery bad times etc. and things begin finally to happen. A good finish to this series so far.

I really enjoyed this book, the lead character's are so real, though i certainly wouldn't like to meet a woman as bitchy as Eva, as a pair Eva and Dan are brilliant, and the book is exciting.

It seems the first two books are dealing with the same issue of sex of some variety. in the first book, Dan and Eva were tracking down a runaway husband who was the leader of a sex ring. this book has Dan and Eva trying to help DI Rowntree save a girl from a sex ring; all the while Dan is trying to prove and gather information that the Russian mobster Marka is guilty .
