Being a vampire isn't all it's cracked up to be- in fact, it kind of sucks.
After surviving his duel with Lilith, Mathias thought that he could relax. That is until he discovers that, Nossy, the new king, has been kidnapped.
When the investigating vampires seem to have no clue how to rescue Nosferatu, Mathias must step in. Everything is peachy until Mathias is named the next new king in order to stop the man behind Nossy’s kidnapping from taking over the throne.
Suddenly, his life is not his own again, and Mathias must make a choice: risk his life to find his friend, or sit back and watch disaster unfold.
Danielle DeVor spent her early years fantasizing about vampires and watching “Salem’s Lot” way too many times. After living briefly in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she moved back to her hometown to write. When not writing and reading about weird things, you will find her hanging out at the nearest coffee shop, enjoying a mocha frappuccino.
I was very excited to be given an ARC by the author. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book and was looking forward to this one. As soon as I opened to book I was not disappointed.
Maithas continues his journey and struggles with his past and present. Just when Maithas thought things would settle down Nosferatu is kidnapped. Worst yet, Maithas gets named King. He now has to juggle trying to rule and finding his friend. It becomes a race against time to save Nossy's life and uncover who was behind the kidnapping.
Absolutely loved it! The Devil's Liege picked up where the last book left off. We got to follow the same characters that we know and love grow and develop further. I enjoyed the introduction of the new characters as well. I can't wait to hear more about Azazel and Xiao. I enjoyed the suspense and mystery that was woven into the plot. The story was fast-paced and easy to read. The different twists that the book takes keeps you wondering what would happen next. The ending threw an interesting loop and left me highly anticipating the next installment.
Such a great book, things happen, good and bad, we get to see everyone again, and some new characters, and yeah, Mathias has some tough choices to make!
The Devil's Liege by Danielle DeVor is a true vampire page turner continuing the story of young Mathias from street smart teenager to Vampire King. The plot bristles at a fantastic pace full of vampire lore, mystery and twists to keep vampire fans entertained to the max. Just when things look all peachy for Mathias, Nossy is abducted - I so love Nossy's character and commend the author for putting so much life into Nosferatu. Mathias the king must act as a vampire king, but those darn memories of his mother's terrible betrayal keep him unsure of himself. Vlad is always there when needed and the intricate vampire history comes in handy too. The author excels with her use of sharp dialogue and not too overly described scenery - the glorious snow and frost were beautifully done and clothing, features kept to a minimum which this reader found refreshing as it enabled the story to proceed at a fast pace. A very tight vampire novel with so many unique twists that I am sure there's more to come from this author's wonderful series. FIVE STARS for this vampire fantasy and very highly recommended.
Formerly homeless fifteen-year-old Mathias Drvar has come a long way. After the death of his enemy, Queen Lilith, the recently turned Vampire becomes King Mathias. Coming into his own as young adult and vampire Mathias is an interesting character, whose play with the rules and the new world is vastly entertaining and thoughtfully written. Excellently pitched this horror for youngsters contains great comedy and suspenseful action. The modern eyes of Mathias throw in a great new perspective on the world of castles, kings and queens, vampires, witches and curses. Things are getting more complicated when Nossy, a.k.a. Nosferatu goes missing. He is one of my favourite characters in the series, although DeVor has packed it full with great personalities and also with a splendid and at times surprising storyline. There is some mild swearing and some casual mentioning of blood etc but nothing that I think youngsters would be shocked to read, since the tone of the book is mainly light hearted. Hugely entertaining, enjoyable and another must read for fans of Vampires and paranormal YA literature. Very well done.
This was such a good and twisty paranormal read! I was a little leery of picking up the second book without reading the first, but I had no problem getting transported to the world DeVor created.
Mathias was an easy character to connect with. He had such a real voice and I liked how he didn’t sugarcoat life as a vampire. His voice felt real and authentic. The side characters were also well done with standouts being Nossy and Vlad.
The pacing was really well done. What I liked is that the plot developed naturally and there wasn’t a huge info dump at the beginning. I liked the gradual hints DeVor wove into the plot to let me know what was going on with the vampire royalty.
The dialogue was my favorite part of the book. I love the wit and humor that comes from Mathias and his vampire interactions. Despite the darkness of the plot, there was actually quite a few laugh out loud quips.
The Devil’s Liege is a great book for fans of YA vampire novels. I’d suggest starting with Tail of the Devil to see how Mathias’s journey began.
Wonderful read!! This is my kind of book, a paranormal story with excitement, thrill, and suspense. I love vampire books and this now is one of my favorites.Danielle DeVor talks about a Mathias Drvar a fifteen year old boy that has overcome homelessness and very difficult circumstances in his past to try and make something better for himself. This is the second book that brings back the characters that you fell in love with in the “Tail of the Devil”.The thrill in this story is that Maithas is named king after the King Nossy disappears and they are unable to find him. I loved the suspense while trying to find who the kidnappers were and how they can save King Nossy.I found the book very intriguing and I am happy I got to read the continuation of the story from the first book. The author has done a fantastic job with The Devil’s Liege. You will love it if you love SCIFI, great fiction and suspense.
An enjoyable book with memorable characters and an interesting, imaginative vampire world.
Mathias is our hero in The Devil’s Liege. He’s a young vampire with an ancient soul. He’s also a loyal friend and will do whatever it takes to find the recently abducted king, Nossy. By the way, Nossy is short for Nosferatu – ha! I love that the author has incorporated classic vampire lore and characters and made them her own in a creative and intriguing way. Mathias has some personal issues and has been through some serious trauma in his recent past, but he makes for an interesting character that kept me turning pages late into the night.
Overall, there’s a bit of adventure, a dash of mystery, and some demon-esque creatures that give this novel just the right amount of edge. It’s not overly gruesome, or horrific, but there are plenty of vivid scenes and dark imaginings to tantalize the mind. I give The Devil’s Liege 5 stars for keeping me thoroughly entertained.
Being a Vampire Sucks! Danielle has a way with words. She also has a vivid imagination and ability to bring her imagination live in her stories. Devil's Liege is no exception. Come and live with Mathias as he risks everything to save his friend and his kingdom.
I NEED the next book in my life!! I need it now. (Although I doubt it will come anytime soon). That's simply how great this book was. Read it in a single day, less than 24 hours, (a lot less).
