"Even better than the first one, which I enjoyed a hell of a lot. Boffo superhero action, metaphysical speculation, and -- much rarer -- real character development.... I will be following this series to the end, and advise others to do so too!" - S.M. Stirling, NYT's Best-Selling Author
In the sequel to Armageddon Girl, Christine Dark and Face-Off must face their inner demons while they try to save Earth Alpha, a world where superheroes are real and danger is everywhere. Can a former gamer chick endowed with cosmic powers and a murderous vigilante deal with their differences - and their growing attraction for one another - and escape the shadowy forces hunting them?
Meanwhile, Ultimate the Invincible Man finds himself a wanted man, persecuted by his former colleagues; Condor and Kestrel fight for justice while indulging their twisted sexual desires; and Cassius Jones, the hero known as Janus, reveals the terrible things he discovered during his exodus in outer space.
Filled with action, adventure and romance, Doomsday Duet continues to explore a world filled with superhuman beings with all too human failings.
REVISED EDITION: The newest version of the book has cleaned up extensively (the book's original proofreader dropped the ball rather badly). If you've purchased a copy of the book prior to 9/25/14, you might want to upload the new version (you can do so through the Manage Your Content and Devices section of your account).
(NOTE: Contains violence, sexual content and adult language)
C.J. discovered his obsession with making up crap and writing it down at the age of 6, when he wrote his first short story, back in the days when the Cold War was still on and the only mobile devices were the wrist watch and the walkie-talkie. He's been making up crap and writing it down for fun and profit ever since.
I was happy to see this come out, after having enjoyed the first book of the series so much! In this book, the group of characters we've been following continue to evade capture from the "powers-that-be", all while attempting to unmask the traitor in the midst of the good guys, and figuring out who the enemy is, and how to deal with them. Our protagonist grows into her powers and discovers new abilities, and eventually has to confront a new and mysterious entity, in the course of trying to win the battle against the Outsiders. (The battle, being, of course, to save the world from malevolent aliens.)
Good fun, and I'm looking forward to the next one!
Depsite the Lurker being the potential buttmonkey of the Externals... His campy insanity is perhaps my favorite... ever!!!! Enjoying this series to the max~~
Just as good s the first one, although I find it amazing that the good guys can go through two books while getting their asses thoroughly kicked and somehow still be fighting at the end.
Good followup to the really excellent first, though it does suffer from second book syndrome. I expect great things from the concluding volume and I do not expect to be disappointed.
A really fun sequel to Armageddon Girl - it develops and expands the world while still giving a lot of what I enjoyed about the first book. While I felt the characters started as analogs to our fictional superheros, they really start to become their own people in this one. Questions are answered, new conflicts are introduced and relationships are developed without feeling like a rehash of the first book - all the things a good sequel should do. It's a very fun read, and the whole series is well worth your time.
Enjoyed the character development, plot twists, and the fact that good characters sometimes die. Will read the rest of the series. I still miss Sir Terry Pratchett, though!
Mr. Carmella spins a good tale. The characters are very dimensional the story is well written with plenty of action, suspense, and science of a type to be believable. I can't wait to read the third book of the series.
