I heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Life seems harsh, and cruel. Says he feels all alone in threatening world. Doctor says: "Treatment is simple. The great clown - Pagliacci - is in town. Go see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. "But doctor..." he says "I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. I downloaded this on Amazon yesterday when it was Free. Today I see it's normal price of £1.90. I'm sorry but for 28 pages that's definitely overpriced.
This can't really be called a Biography when there is very little information and most of which appears on Robin Williams' Wikipedia page!
However, there were some things I didn't know and it was touching to read about his Charity work and how he went out of his way to help other people and to cheer them up. It makes it even sadder to know he couldn't help himself but I suppose that is the nature of crippling depression. I also didn't realise he was in the early stages of Parkinson's Disease when he died.
I learned some things I didn't know and it's a nice enough tribute but it just needed to be a lot longer. I'm glad it was free as I would not have paid the asking price for such a short read.
Here's where ebook purchases can go sadly wrong. As a fan of Robin Williams I wanted to find out a little more about the man - his youth, growing up, family, career and everything that comes together to make the much loved star. Sadly this read little more than a magazine obituary column -a brief synopsis of his family, marriages and a filmography. I perhaps should have realised that the book was only 30 pages long - there was no way this would give any justice to such a phenomenal character.
Very short but, there was interesting information there. Robin Williams was an amazing comic and actor. I was not aware of just how many charitable organizations that he supported.
This book was a very easy read, but it was interesting. I was left with a sense of Robin Williams and the things he had done. I don't know a lot about his work with charities, but this did inform me as a reader of his work. Also I found it interesting that he had done shows for our troops over the years. The only thing that I had a problem with was some minor editing issues. I would recommend this book to anybody who has seen Robin Williams perform either on live stage, television or in movies to read this little biography of Williams and remember him and his talent.
It will break your heart, mend it and then uplift it knowing, it's not money we acquire that is one's defining characteristic, but how we choose to utilize it to help others regain faith and hope for the future. Can one man or woman change the world for the better? Can we all make a difference in our own positive manner? I believe so. Our Creator is a loving, forgiving entity. Man creates the "Dogma" to manipulate and control the masses. I strive to listen to my heart and gut now. Words can be crafted to deceive. Robin's heart was golden but worn out and then Parkinson's? He will always be my diplomat of love and hope. You be the judge.
Not really enough about who and what Mr Williams was about. Kinda to short. Not a good read.
Not very interesting. too short not enough personal information. was hoping for more about his personal friends and family. he seemed to be very private so I guess there wasn't enough to be said.
I chose this rating for two reasons, the first because it was too short. Secondly it would have more about depression and a little more about how he fought the demons in his life. It could have helped other people with this disease. Just another cause that he ended being part of.
I give the book a 3.5 stars. It's very short and it felt more like a book report rather than an actual book. But it did cover Robin's life, career and most all it showed the human side of him.
If you want to read all the facts and quick this is the book to read.
Glad I got this when it was free, super short and didn't reveal anything new about Robin Williams. Formatting was off on a few pages and it was not at all what I expected from a biography, more like a long magazine article.
This was a short, concise story about the life of Robin Williams. It touched on the good, and bad of his life. There are many interesting points that are not typically known about Robin Williams, that allows you to see him in a different light.
I enjoyed this short biography, I have always enjoyed robin Williams, I was deeply saddened by his passing, but will enjoy his comic and movies forever
Robin Williams was one of my favorite stand-up comedians and this was a good, but short biography. I will probably buy a more in-depth biography later.
One of the greatest men of our times wish he never died and that we could have helped him. Rest in peace and pass his legacy on ward to others who may need you amen
This was a very quick read! But it told a lot about Robin Williams & what he accomplished before his untimely death. It was amazing to see what he was involved in and how he loved to help people! He is definitely missed and I love watching his movies!
I chose this rating because this book has made me think of robin williams other endevours and im going to look into those as well as re look at his career as a comiedian and an actor
