Doris O'Connor somehow manages to make a hot book out of any topic and Her Bear Protector, the first of The Protectors Series, is yet another one. Remote country village + cleaning lady + bear? Yep.
Tina Snowdon is looking for a place that will give her peace and she thinks she's found it in the tiny village deep in the Cumbrian countryside. With her cleaning service running well, she's quite comfortable. That is, until a certain Ronan Bernhard moves into the abandoned cottage at the edge of the village and takes her on as his cleaning lady.
She's attracted to him, but well, who wouldn't be? Unfortunately, he's forced to keep his distance from her since he's not only a nursery teacher/mountain rescuer but the guardian to the entire village of shifters that human Tina had unwittingly moved into. So while she's definitely his mate, she's also off limits for the time being.
All comes to a head when she gets to his cottage after he'd been attacked and he's forced to shift in front of her to save his life. How will Tina deal with the truth that's in front of her? Can she accept something that she's always thought of as fiction? And how will she welcome the dominant mate she's wanted when he's not fully human?
Of course the story has a happy ending, but the situations they have to fight through in order to get to it are what makes this novel. Unbeknownst to the humans, the village is under attack and Ronan is their only line of defense. These attackers know no boundaries and will kill anyone who stands in their way, human or not.
Her Bear Protector a fun, steamy, and quick tale that definitely whets the interest for the next book in line of The Protectors series. While Tina's and Ronan's situation is somewhat resolved, there is something else going on that is threatening everyone's safety. What it is would need a whole other book (or more) to explain. I hope that comes out soon, Dorris O'Connor!

For the most part, Her Bear Protector was a pretty good read. I liked how Ms. O’Connor has Tina inform the reader of the history between her and Ronan via her internal monologue while getting right into the action. There was no dragging out of the “reveal” as Tina learns that Ronan is a bear shifter almost immediately into the book’s beginning. And what a way to find out. The relief Tina felt after the shock of seeing all the blood and destruction is probably the only reason she didn’t run away screaming when Ronan shifted into his bear.
As with all shifter books (and most paranormal romances in general), the insta-love issue that inundates so many contemporary romances does not apply in Her Bear Protector due to mating instincts. However, it really didn’t apply once the reader learns that Ronan recognized Tina as his mate when they first met but because of his duties as a Protector, he did not pursue the mating bond. He actually kept watch over her from a distance to insure she was safe, but otherwise left her alone. I loved how growly and sexy Ronan was, yet he was unbelievably gentle and protective of Tina. But I will say that I was right there with him in his bewilderment when she freaked out on him after he told her what his being a Protector meant – that was a crazy whiplash scene that I reread three times to see if I missed something. Thank goodness we had Mrs. H to explain Tina’s reaction to us later.
What I didn’t love were things that just annoyed or bothered me personally. Tina’s tendency to stick her tongue out at Ronan seemed quite childish. I don’t recall reading what her age was, but that behavior kept negating her previous acts of maturity. That said, I literally snorted when Tina had the actual thought that “She wasn’t some schoolgirl for f*ck’s sake.” One of my other issues was how quickly they progressed to D/s sex. Their conversation had already established that Tina’s experience was limited to reading romance novels, yet Ronan jumps straight in with restraints and blindfolding. Don’t get me wrong, the sex scenes in the book are all kinds of hot, the progression just felt rushed – not the sex itself. These issues didn’t prevent me from enjoying Her Bear Protector, they just kept it from being a great read. Overall Ms. O’Connor has penned an enjoyable read that is filled with lots of hot sex, a great romance, and an intriguing cast of characters I hope to see more of. I look forward to reading the next book in the series and am anxious to find out if it will be set in the same village or a different one in need of another protector.

Have I told you lately how much I love Doris O'Connor? Well, if I haven't, allow me to tell you now. I LOVE DORIS O'CONNOR!!! I thank Doris for my love of shifter books. The very first one I read was one of hers, and I haven't missed a single one since. Each new one becomes my favorite, and "Her Bear Protector" is no exception. It's hard to believe but it is even sexier than all of the others. I was ready to combust with each new, hot scene.
First, there is Ronan. How do I describe Ronan? He's a Harley riding, tattooed, ultra Alpha bear shifter. He's also A-MAZ-ING!!! He radiates heat, passion and sex...in human AND bear form. He has a job to do, but he can't help the pull he feels toward Tina. She runs a cleaning service, and she admittedly fantasizes about her hot client.
The story quickly takes off from there. It's not a very long book, so it HAS to be quick. However, it doesn't FEEL quick. It's perfectly paced, and there's a lot more going on than a bear claiming his mate. There are delightful background characters (and a few that aren't so delightful) like Mrs. Hastings, the local witch. Everyone should be fortunate enough to have a Grandma like her. She'll make you laugh hysterically, and she'll charm you completely. She's the perfect to balance the panty melting sex.
I can't say too much more, or I'll give away all the good stuff. You have to trust me on this one. "Her Bear Protector" is a wonderful trip into a a town full of fantasy that you'd love to visit...and maybe stay awhile. It's incredibly erotic, with BDSM elements, so you will encounter some spankings and other lovely toys. There's even a very memorable scene near a weeping willow tree that will make your knees weak.
Doris has done it again, and you owe it to yourself to grab this book.

Well, let’s talk about the first thing in the book. The cover. ‘Never judge a book by its cover’ Jeeze ignore whoever said that. The cover is just brilliant and so perfect for the story! Hot sexy Dom biker dude… sweet little subbie and a freaking bear! The cover alone could tell you about the story.
Now heed my warnings. You will need your own protection while reading this story because it is too hot to handle! It will blow your mind. Ronan and Tina are made for each other and the trials they are put though in the book prove it.
It’s time to get dirty, let’s talk about Ronan and Tina for a minute. Their chemistry is instant. They both desire each other but know it’s forbidden. They can’t keep their hands off each other (in their minds anyway) Finally with a little help from a new friend Ronan and Tina end up ‘trapped’ together. Hot damn Ronan and Tina light up the pages of your kindle. Ronan is a dirty talking Dom who is also a bear shifter… jeeze how can you escape that? Why would you want to? Well when the secrets come out it becomes too much… Will shifter Dom smooth talker be able to bring her back? You have to find out for yourself in this scorching book!
I highly recommend you have your little pink bullet handy to read this story because you will need it and some extra batteries too! Doris has written a sexy-as-hell that will keep you wanting more!

A new town, a new life a time to forget a past. That is what Tina has planned for herself. She cleaned houses for a living. She is getting into a routine and men really wasn't in the equation, the one male she could have been interested shined her on. As time pass Tina winds up cleaning house for him also.
Ronan is a bear shifter and protector of the town, and as soon as her scent hits his bear Ronan knows Tina is his mate.
This was the second book that I’ve had the pleasure of reading from this author. Ill have to put her on my list of favs. I was able to read it in one sitting, It was a decent length but it could have been a bit longer...maybe.
I loved the interaction, a few parts had me laughing. I loved both characters Ronan and Tina, and how well they suited each other. I simply adored Mrs. H, she brought some fun into the story.
It had BDSM Elements in the story, maybe even more that elements though it wasn't a blown out BDSM story. I loved how he looked for things, and checked with what color she was on. That mix with some bump and grinding makes the story a erotic level of hotness. This is a first book in what looks to be a series, though not a cliff hanger. Id recommend this book to anyone that loves shifters. Enjoy.

He wants Tina, he's a protector of his people, strong and caring towards everyone and in the bedroom he's a total Alpha Dom.
Tina is her own woman, she's not one to be walked all over. When she learns about Ronan and truth after truth about him will she accept him as he is?
This was a short novella, while I enjoyed the storyline there at times I do wish there could have been more to it. What there was though was a whole lot of steam!!! Turn on the fan and be prepared to the pages to melt as you read this one!

Well what can I say? I loved it! Doris is very much one of my go-to writers when I am looking for something to read and she never fails to draw me in to whatever story I am reading.
Her Bear Protector is a classic example of this. It had all of the elements that I hope to find - Uber Alpha male (who just also happens to be a bear shifter) and feisty human female who has no idea that shifters even exist outside of the books she likes to read. Add to that mix the fact that said male is also a Dom and well..... panty melting reading guaranteed.

One morning that all changes when Tina shows up to his house and finds him injured. Then he shifts into a bear and she knows that her life will never be the same. He tells her why he has kept his distance and she also learns about the unique town she lives in.
This is such a great story. Doris does a great job making a book feel like it is twice as long as it really is. She sucks you into the plot, has you fall in love with the characters and gives you a ton of hot steamy sex. This is yet another book of hers that I love.

This book was fantastic. Doris has a way of writing bear shifters that you can't help but fall in love and wish you had one (I know I do). Ronan is a protector who is also melt your panties hot. From the dirty talking Dom to the alpha male who does what he can to protect the village. He is sex personified. Tina is a sassy Sub who wants Ronan but is afraid to love him because of the job that he has as protector. Throw in a devious and lovable witch, a element of shifters that you may or may not be familiar and sex that leaves you panting and you have a recipe for a rockstar book. I for one am in love with Ronan the Protector and you will be too after reading this phenomenal book.

I liked the short and the characters only complaint is for being such a short short I think there was to much sex lol I know how can there be too much sex but this time there was 95 percent of the story was then stewing and 5 percent was actual story I'm all for hot dirty sex but give a good story too please I wanted more of the story which was really good

I loved Ronan and Tina's story. Ronan knew the instant he met Tina they were mates, but he never pushed her. Tina found Ronan and she finally had to admit her feelings to herself and finally to Ronan.

March 24, 2016DNF so no rating. Once he got all excited about leaving his "mark" i.e. bruises on her I stopped reading. Sorry but bruising is not hot & sexy, bruising is violence and NOT something I want to read about.

This the first shifter book I have read by Doris O'Connor. She did not disappoint, I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters their storyline, and the sex was hot. Can't wait to read the next book!

Loved the idea of shifters and being "Protectors" Ronan and Tina's story was amazing. I love how they came together it was explosive.

This veered between 3-4 stars for me. The story started and ended well, it just got a bit lost in the middle.
I felt we should have learned a little more about the hero and heroine too.

Great start to an awesome series. I really like Ronan & Tina's story. I couldn't put this book down once I got started. This is a quick read and the author gets right to the point.
