A lively and fun adventure for very small hands from the Booktrust Early Years Award winning illustrator, Georgie Birkett. Teddies walk, teddies skip, teddies on their way... Teddies on a picnic trip, hip! Hip! Hip! Hooray!
Wonderfully colourful artwork and a jaunty rhyming text ensure that this will be a firm favourite!
I live and work in the beautiful hilly town of Lewes, near Brighton with my husband, two sons and two cats. I have made lots of children’s books, working with many publishers including PenguinRandomHouse, Macmillan and Bloomsbury. Making children's books is the best job ever and so fun, I knew this would be my job even when I was in primary school!
Adorable illustrations and a good book for the toddler set. Sadly, all of these animals are not teddies, even though the book labels them all as such. I would have preferred if the author used "friends" instead of "teddies". So, the beginning would change to: Everyone's excited, everything is ready... little hats & little shoes for every friend of teddy. Friends walk, friends skip, friends on their way. Friends on a picnic trip...
Also, the rhyme scheme drops the ball a few times. Perhaps because the author is British she can make the words "again" and "train" rhyme, but it doesn't work in the United States. Also, the last rhyming couplet falls flat since it is cut short.
It is still a nice choice for those looking for toddler books and picnic themed books.

My kids can't get enough of this book. The cadence and artwork are great for them. They identify the items on each page and read along with me. This was a great pick up. Highly recommend for any parent looking to read with their kids.
I see the criticism about all of the characters being "teddies" even though they aren't bears. I saw that the author is from England and assumed it's an English thing that I don't understand. I'll be reading this at a Teddy Bear Picnic program at my library.
