The Egg Money project recognizes the strength, courage and resourcefulness of pioneer women from all ethnic backgrounds who settled in Saskatchewan in the late 1800s or early 1900s. The lives of 24 of these ordinary yet extraordinary women, recalled by their families, are celebrated in this book.
I have seen the Egg Money statue in Saskatoon, but was not aware of the origin story. Having read this slim volume, I now have a deeper understanding of the statue and a greater appreciation for the prairie pioneer women it honours. Many thanks to the Saskatoon German Days committee, without whom this monument would not exist.
