This Short Story RESTRAINING ORDER is the beginning of Alex Dean's scariest, most chilling series yet.
The first 3 books in the series are now available:
Book 1: Restraining Order -- amazon.com/dp/B00NSAPAQI Book 2: The Bogeyman Next Door -- amazon.com/dp/B00LF4TFW4 Book 3: Stalked -- amazon.com/dp/B00WGO9NPG
This book was a good short read. Of course it is a cliffhanger but I can't wait to read the next one. I got this book for free so I really wasn't expecting much but I hope the next was is better. I hope that it is longer than this one but I will be definitely reading the next one.
"No glowing recommendation based on what I read I'm afraid"
This book is far too short. It deals with complex and often troubling subject matter; there would never be enough space to do it justice in a short story like this. As for the writing; it's average, which means the story line is never elevated to the levels that should see it receiving 'great' reviews. The two UK reviews I've read here reflect my opinion. I often question the veracity of reviews attributed to a title that is so 'average'. We're all reading the same words; how on earth can so many people on Amazon. com give it such a glowing recommendation?.Tastes vary, I appreciate that, but as my old Mum used to say 'you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.' This book veers strongly towards the latter as far as I'm concerned.
Than a short story. Even short stories should be complete in answering of themselves. But I would still venture to guess that a full book would be worth reading.
There were a few inconsistencies in the story line. One being how advanced baby Justin was for a six month old. There were a few others, but this one stuck out to me the most, seeing that I raised four babies from birth and know other people with babies, and not once have I heard of a baby being able to move around so avidly as this baby had.
I'm looking forward to reading the continuation though. Hopefully there will be fewer inconsistencies.
The story itself starts off well enough. It is enough to raise curiosity about the main character and why she might be in danger, however, it isn't enough for me to keep following the series. Why? I will not follow a series of short stories when they can be made into a book.
This book was so good, I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately it is number 1 in a series, now I have to read the rest of the series to see what happens. I guess that's the point of a series right. I never heard of Alex Dean before but now that I have I look forward to more of his stories. I like his style plus the characters are awesome.
As a survivor of domestic violence/stalking/sexual assault and now as a peace officer I was a bit disappointed by the actual length of the story. While well written, Dean could have done much more in describing the horror that Alexis is going through as well as the obvious manic episode that Wilfred is going through. The murder of "Vietnam Billy", a beloved character in the neighborhood known for protecting his neighbors was rather coldly delivered with no emotional narrative. I understand that it is a short story and as I said, well written though I believe that if it had been presented as a novella or a novel, I would have had more time to get to know the characters. It seriously reminds me of one of my reports. t's too clinical for such an emotional crime.
The story was okay - it seemed like I was reading about one episode and the fallout from it. It had a small degree of suspense within the story but wasn't really long enough to get established with the character of Alexis, so I couldn't feel her fear or get drawn into her emotions. Will's character came through loud and clear, as does his mother's - or was that merely a ploy, hoping to dissuade the police?
All in all, even the conversations between the police had an amateurish ring to them - they didn't come across as sounding natural, especially when they were surrounded by the murder scene. Will I read the other short stories to follow the story through? Probably but it's more likely to be because I want to see whether Will gets caught.
Although too short this was a well written story that kept me fascinated as I followed the strange relationship between Wilfred Bachman and Alexis Fields. Wilfred has been dumped by Alexis, although he doesn't believe that possible and is not willing to give up the woman of his dreams. That is just the beginning of this mystery thriller. The ending leaves readers desperately wanting more, but since this is just book on, I am sure the author has a lot more to say.
Honestly I didn't really enjoy this book. It was far too short even for a novella & seemed very rushed. There was no depth to the characters or storyline & I feel that the story should have been researched more given the seriousness of the topic. Disappointing, especially when compared to the synopsis.
Good read, but way too short. Domestic violence, dating violence, etc are major issues in our society, I agree..However, I was disappointed the story seemed to abruptly end. I didn't rely get a chance to know the characters. I wish this had been longer, but I wasn't, so I believe I will read the remaining pieces.
A VERY, VERY SHORT READ, I REALLY DIDN’T CARE FOR THE WRITING STYLE KINDA CONFUSING AT TIMES. THE STORYLINE JUMPS AROUND I GUESS BECAUSE OF THE LENGTH BEING SO SHORT. THIS IS JUST AN INTRODUCTION TO THE ALEXIS FIELDS THRILL SERIES. ;|
Not a bad book but not great either. I understand its short but five chapters and a plot which is too quick ruined this for me. It still was okay but I've read so much better. Sorry to the author if this offends them but honesty is the best policy.
The storyline was quite predictable, not suspenseful at all. It is listed as a short story, however it left me feeling I read the first few chapters of the book. Disappointing!
This was far too short even for a short story. I think the series has possibilities & since the next book is only $2.99 on Amazon, I'll give it a shot. I think the author could have made this book a little longer so we could really get to know the characters more.
I really had to push myself to finish this short story. It was poorly written and didn't hold my interest at all. It very much felt like it was written by someone with very little writing experience.
Although good, I feel that the suspense was developed enough, the characters weren't developed enough and overall was too short for such a difficult, complex subject matter.
The characters needed more depth, history and development in order to earn a rapport with
Interesting read...ever feared someone but never wanted to actually think of the reality of capability? This book puts the mindset beyond the title says it in itself
Wilfred continued the chain of his mother and father and their abuse. I am not enamored of this type of story, it is too brutal for ebooks Entertainment purposes.
