I haven’t finished reading this book yet, but have already shed a few tears of joyful relief as I read the introduction and first few chapters!

Danielle Papageorgiou’s friendly, approachable style is refreshing, and for any homeschool parent who has longed to break free from stale textbooks and the life-draining reign of the scope and sequence and standardized curriculum, but wasn’t quite sure that was possible—you’ve got to read this!

I’ve been influenced a lot by writers, speakers, and thinkers who favor the ideals of unschooling; however, I’ve always felt a hesitancy about it as well, because as a Christian, it just doesn’t 100% jive with training up children in the ways of the Lord. Danielle Papageorgiou has done a brilliant job of defining not only why this incongruity exists, but also clearly lays out a powerful alternative in Lifeschooling.

She shares stories, real-life examples from her own family and others, loads of references and helpful quotes, and walks parents through the whys, whats, and hows of Lifeschooling.

If you know you’re an outside-the-box family, but you also know that the humanistic foundations of unschooling just can’t work in a Christian home, this book is for you. I love this quote from Chapter 2, which sums up the heart of the book for me: “Lifeschooling … allows your family to put education in its rightful place and honor the gifts and talents in each child, while seeking the good of the whole family. Lifeschooling is about seeking God’s Kingdom first.”

I’ve been life-schooling from the very beginning... I just didn’t have the words for it.

I knew early on that our homeschool wouldn’t fit inside the traditional mold. God was calling us to something deeper, something slower, more intentional, and led by His Spirit. For years I simply followed His peace, not knowing this approach had a name.

When I learned about Lifeschooling, everything clicked.

Danielle’s book Lifeschooling: Learning to Think Outside the Curriculum Box is the kind of encouragement I wish I had in my hands years ago. It’s not just about homeschooling differently... it’s about partnering with the Holy Spirit to disciple our children and nurture the gifts God has placed within them.

This kind of learning may not always be measured in test scores or completed worksheets. But it shows up in the fruit: in faith, in character, in purpose. And that’s what truly matters.

If you’ve ever felt behind or burdened by the pressure to “keep up,” this book is your permission to rest in God’s way. There is freedom in following His lead.

I’m so proud of Danielle and thankful for her obedience in writing this message. I know it’s going to bless countless moms who just need to know what you’re doing matters.

This is one book you’ll want to have in your homeschool toolkit. It’s a gift for the heart, not just the mind.

Even though I don't traditionally homeschool, my daughter does a virtual charter school, so she has a lot of room for creative flexibility in her schedule. Danielle's book was truly helpful for us, and I was able to incorporate so much of her wisdom and helpful guidance into our schooling routine. I also believe this book can be helpful for families who do in-person public or private school, for so much learning and instructions happens outside of the classroom, in my opinion! This book is such a good read, and I felt many times like Danielle was writing just for me. I highly recommend Lifeschooling—the book and the practice! And I can't wait to read what Danielle plans to write next.

A very good read. I’m getting ready to start my 30th year of homeschooling and still loved the reminders and encouragement throughout the book to trust God for the results and for the plan He has for each child’s life and future. I also was happy to see the author mention Chris Davis and Dr. Mary Hood, both important pioneers in the homeschooling world who have gone on to be with Jesus.
I took off one star because I felt Chapter 12, Naysaying Neighbors, Negative Nellies, and Nosey Nitwits was unnecessarily mean, using verses about fools to describe them. Ignorance on a particular subject doesn’t make one a fool.

recalibrating my perspective

I have been homeschooling for almost 15 years and I still need refreshing reminders and to have my perspective recalibrated.

This was just what I needed. One of those books I will read at least annually to have Danielle’s friendly but direct voice reminding me of what is most important and why I homeschool in the first place.

Whether this is your first or twentieth year homeschooling you need this book. If you don’t think you do then you need it even more.

Lifeschooling is an approach to homeschooling that is both similar to and completely different from unschooling. This both explains the ins and outs in an easy to follow way, including the author’s personal experiences. She makes the approach feel doable and worth incorporating into your homeschool, even if it’s not a method you can do primarily. This method may not be possible to do in a strictly regulated state, but the book is worth reading for ideas to incorporate even if it’s not your main method.

Wow! Just the encouragement I needed as we get going in the fall. It’s so comforting to read the words someone else has written down that explain what it is I’ve felt God calling me to do all these years. Lots of practical suggestions with plenty of the only advice that truly matters - trust God with the process. Ultimately He is the teacher and I’m the assistant, directing my kids towards following Him and no one else. I’m so thankful for this book and see myself reading it again when I feel alone.

Danielle has packed this book full of wisdom and encouragement on how to think outside the box and away from the doldrum ways of learning that many of us grew up with. This is such a timely book for my current homeschooling season. I highly recommend it for anyone needing some Biblical encouragement and a fresh way to approach learning that your children will actually love and truly learn and grow from!

Lifeschooling is a well thought out book and explains an alternative for Christian homeschoolers. Danielle has done a great job defining "unschooling" with its pros and cons, and she gives practical tips on how to provide the right foundation for learning! I wish I had this information 20 years ago!

Matthew 6:33 (KJV) "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and everything will be added unto you." This is the foundation of Lifeschooling. It's seeking God about direction not only for your family, but your children's gifts as well. We as parents are challenged to learn how children learn and to cultivate their gifts. This is a must read for all homeschooling parents and those parents who are thinking about homeschooling.

I first heard about lifeschooling through Danielle's Facebook page and totally could relate to what she was sharing. I have followed her for years now for guidance in how to better utilize lifeschooling for my family.

Danielle's book will equip homeschooling parents in how to find their children's God-given gifts and merge life with homeschooling. She sets everything up very well and even addresses common concerns and logistics when it comes to lifeschooling.

I like how each chapter has a quote at the beginning and ends with a nice wrapped up conclusion.

If you have ever wondered what this whole lifeschooling thing is about and how it is different from unschooling (covered nicely in the book!) or you are already following the lifeschooling model and want some encouragement along the way, this is the book for you!

I have been Lifeschooling for over 25 years. I didn't call it that, but after reading this book I realize that's what I was doing.

Danielle does a good job in this book of explaining what Lifeschooling is. It isn't unschooling, but there are some similarities. I like how Danielle makes sure that our foundation is built on putting God first in everything, especially our homeschooling.

Danielle directs us back to the "ancient paths" that the homeschool pioneers blazed for us. She shows us how to find our children's gifts and callings and how to support them in pursuing them.

The verse that guides them in their homeschool is "Seek first the Kingdom of God". I think that's so important and I'm glad Danielle gives us practical ways to do that.

I hope that many homeschoolers will read this and will join the revolution to bring homeschooling back to its roots. That they will see the value in everyday life and focus on developing their child's God-given gifts.

I gave this book 5 stars because it is very well-written and the message is extremely timely.

I'm only half way through this book and already I've felt the lightening that comes when you read a good book and it refreshes your soul.

This is not to say it's not meaty: Lifeschooling is only done well with intentionality, eyes, hearts, and minds pointed to Christ, and a lot of active learning in regards to who your children are and in what ways they are purposed by God to fulfill His Kingdom mission.

Ultimately, Lifeschooling is the HARD way to raise your children, but it's ALSO the most rewarding and inspiring way. As parents, we grow weary and the path to 18+ years of raising children seems like it's long and winding.

AND Lifeschooling is an adventure, an exploration, a beautiful, messy journey facilitating the learning our children do every day as we walk with them "by the way", and discipling them through real life experiences toward the ultimate goal: The Imitation of Christ.

I started the book already loving the term "Lifeschooling" and I am not disappointed by the content. SO much wisdom and insight. What once was a desire to remove our children from the indoctrination and influence of the world, became a sad imitation of that world with a "Christian" label slapped on it. Lifeschooling is a call to bring back the wonder and creativity and joy of learning that those early homeschool pioneers created out of necessity.

There is no one "curriculum" that is perfect for every child, ESPECIALLY in the Lifeschool model, because there is no "model." Every family will have unique giftings, passions, missions, and God-given purpose, so the education of our children will reflect that. Danielle does such an amazing job of pointing out the pitfalls and burnout that occurs when we try to fit our family into a "curriculum box." And she also breathes new life into the idea that none of us learn by following specific uniform formulas, but by exploring, asking questions, challenging our limits, and pursuing a life lived within the creative genius of our Creator.

For every mother (and father) feeling burned out, discouraged, and tired of weeping over math books day after day, this is the book for you! Take a breath, read Lifeschooling, and prayerfully seek God's wisdom in what HE wants your family mission and your children's future to look like.
