Don’t miss the conclusion of the series featuring Bebop and Rocksteady, Karai, Nobody, the Dog Star Clan, and Lita!

In this bombastic volume, Bebop and Rocksteady interrupt the boxing match of the century―costing some very dangerous people a lot of money. With an entire city hot on their heels, can Bebop and Rocksteady escape Las Vegas without destroying it? Find out in this story by Caleb Goellner and artist Omar Francia.

Then, before Foot Clan leader Karai went mysteriously into seclusion, she ordered her Foot soldiers Natsu, Koya, and Bludgeon to let Manhattan’s new district attorney, Hieronymus Hale, do whatever he needed to do to take the Ninja Turtles off the board. But with Hale’s militarized Foot Patrol wreaking havoc all over the city and bringing shame to the Foot name, Karai’s mutant soldiers decide they can no longer stand idly by in this story by Erik Burnham and artist Gavin Smith.

But that’s not all! When Angel takes her malfunctioning Nobody suit to Harold’s lab for a repair, she discovers it’s not as simple as taking her laptop to the local computer store. In fact, it’s ridiculous! Join Angel and guest star Fugitoid in a story by Tom Waltz, Paul Allor, and artist Nelson Dániel.

Oh? You think that’s it for the odious Hieronymus Hale? Of course not! Although he has nearly all of New York under the boot of his militant Foot Patrol, the crime lords of Chinatown have somehow resisted Hale’s takeover of NYC’s underworld…and have come up with a plan to resist. At last their secret weapon is revealed: The Dog Star Clan has finally come to America in the Mutant Nation finale by the best-selling Thundercats team of Declan Shalvey and artist Drew Moss!

Also included are two short stories by writer Dave Wielgosz and artist Vitor Cafaggi following Northampton’s ninja protector…Lita?!

I wanted to give this book 3.5 stars and I was debating to round it up or down. What tipped it upwards for me the way everything was together in the end. Yes it appeals to me as a continuity lover like me.

Bebop Rockvegas: Rocksteady and Bebob night out in Las Vegas of course mayhem will follow. 3 stars fun filler story.

Northampton Ninja: Lita is having a hard time fitting in Northampton. She is homesick, misses her family and her old life. However she might find Northampton still has something to offer her. 3.5 stars a nice heartwarming story.

One Hale of an afternoon: Natsu and Koya visit Bludgeon in New York. They see the state of the Foot Patrol in New York and the was DA Hale is running things. 3.5 stars.

Moose boot blues: A day in the like of Officer Moose. Doing his duty but facing the racism towards mutants. 3.5 stars.

If it ain't broken: Angel Bridge is having a hard time with the upgrades to her battle suit. Giving too much control to the machine instead of the human intuition. Sort of the state of AI right now. 3.5 stars.

Let Stockman be Stockman: The tale of two politicians. An interesting way of writing the story of them finishing each other's dialogues. 3.5 stars half an extra point for the interesting format.

Haunts: This is the only story with the turtles actually in it. DA Hale is trying to consolidate his power to include Chinatown. However the locals have their own backup. How do the Turtles fit into this scenario of the enemy of my enemy? This is the most action packed story in the book. 4 stars.

Your back is got: This is the story that brings the book together for me. Not the best story but best story to end with. A good story of hope. 4 stars. A few variant covers to finish.

Mutant Nation comes to a close with this second and final collection of stories focusing on some of the side characters of the TMNT universe.

There's only one longer story in here, and it's unfortunately the Bebop & Rocksteady one - I've never been a fan of their solo stuff, and this random story about them storming Las Vegas didn't change my mind. The only other story I didn't really like was the Sally Pride/Baxter Stockman one, which decided to alternate between narratives every panel to try and get into both characters' heads at the same time, a gimmick that wore thin after two pages and yet continued for the entirety.

Otherwise, there are a couple of Foot Clan related stories that give us some insight into what's happening with Karai right now and how it's affecting her teammates, a nice little check-in with Angel & the scientists, and a Lita story that made me smile. The final story in the book brings all the characters together for a look back and a look forward to what's coming next.

Mutant Nation fleshes out the TMNT world, reminding us all just how many characters there are wandering around after nearly 200 issues. Some work better than others, but that's par for the course in any series like this.
