The books design is perfect for readers young and old. It shows every flower you could ever imagine and it's broken up in sections titled Garden, Rainforest, Mountain, Waterside, Dessert, Wildflowers, Deadly, Fragrant/Smelly, Edible and Healing Flowers. But it starts by explaining types of flowers, the life of a plant and how pollination works with beautifully drawn illustrations. The illustrations throughout the book are so great that at times it's hard to tell if some are an illustration or a photo. I enjoyed that each flower had it's own page and also showed some of the bugs that that might visit these plants. The book ends with a little bit of information on Conservation which is clearly geared toward children.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this arc.
Apparently I'm on a kick of learning about plants/flowers/etc. This book spoke to me when I saw it come through the circulation desk at work. It is delightful! While it is geared towards younger readers, it also serves as a great introduction to flowers for anyone who wants something easy to read, wonderfully organized, and beautifully illustrated. I really enjoyed learning about some familiar plants I see on my daily commute, as well as plants from around the world that I've never even heard of! If you are an admirer of flowers, you should check this out.
The book is a must have for school libraries. So much information in an easy to find way. I loved the different sections on deadly, fragrant or smelly, and edible flowers. The illustrations were very good, with one exception. For such a great book, I'm wondering if people will pass it by because the cover isn't that catchy. I learned a lot and highly recommend this book.
