4 Sugary Sweet Stars

This book is so sweet. I so liked this one better than the last. Thank God Syreena was nothing like her sister!
So in this book we get to know Damien, and the vampire world of the nightwalkers series better. Damien is the Prince of the vampires. He is at the newly found Library of nightwalkers when he sees Syreena again, He doesn't know why but He feels drawn to her. When Syreena gets kidnapped by the traitor Ruth, Damien is determined to save her, but in order to save her he will have to do something that is just never done. Take the blood of another nightwalker!
Syreena is a Lycanthrope Princess, and advisor to the queen (her sister). She is use to putting her wants and needs on hold for the good of others, but when Damien, who has always got under her skin, saves her life and they share a passionate kiss, She can't help but want the one thing that could tear her people apart, and maybe even start a war, Damien as her mate!
Damien:
Damien is so dayum hott in this book. I liked him in other books, but this one really brings him to life. He is so cocky and self assured. Powerful, loyal, sexy, and very romantic.
"I want to learn how to love you, Syreena. And no, I do not mean make love to you. I believe I can figure that out well enough." The sparkle in his eyes and the pointed twitch to his brow made her laugh. "I want to learn why it is and how it is you have effected these changes inside me, both physically and spiritually. I wish to know how one such as myself, so nonchalant in emotion all of his life, can be so moved by a single little creature like you."
"This is not a phase for me, Syreena. This is not a fancy that will flit out of my system. I have lived long enough to know what is and is not unique to my make-up. If you want promises, I will find ways to make them and keep them. If you want forever, sweetling, then I will gladly live another long lifetime."
Syreena:
Syreena is strong, brave, smart, and giving. She is a kick ass fighter. She is a hopelessly romantic person at heart longing for love, a mate, and children.
"I am very fortunate," she whispered into his ear. "I know that now. From this moment on, I will always find my way back to you, Damien. I will know that your kiss, your touch, and your warm sensitivity will always be waiting patiently for me, just as I will always make my heart your home, so you always have a place to come back to."
"My love. My lord, if you wish it. I would have no future if it did not include you, Damien. I knew that when I came to you. Probably long before I acknowledged it. I will always remember your surety, though. It will never leave me."

Talk about explosive chemistry, and when they made love in the kitchen Wow!!
"I know that. I only said I would deserve it. I cannot imagine that we will never argue. I know that one day we will have a disagreement. Possibly a very bad one. If I thought this was all going to be sunshine and glorious sex, I would be a naive and silly female." "You are neither of those," he assured her with a chuckle. "Glorious, hmm?" She giggled, nipping at his sensitive neck in punishment. "As if your ego requires any stroking," she remarked. "I was not thinking about my ego, actually…" he murmured suggestively, reaching for her hips and rear, sliding his hands with clear appetite and sensuality over them.
We meet some new characters in this book, and get to know Jasmine a little more. The Ruth plot thickens as she adds a new bad guy to her evil ranks. Great read. Now I am on to Noah's book.

This book totally redeemed the whole series as far as I'm concerned. I liked Jacob, Gideon fell short, and Elijah annoyed me. Damien was the best so far, and it was fantastic!
Ruth is one of the best female villains I've seen in a long time, in fact I wish we saw more of her. She gets some action right at the beginning, and some later on in the book. She is one insane woman who has a brilliant mind...the makings of an excellent bad guy.
Syreena was a lot like her sister Siena, but less impulsive. I loved Damien the vampire prince, and I love how he wasn't in love with her (yet) but his comment was that he wanted to see if he could be. That was a very important part of this book, since all the vampires were pretty much walking around bored of life, and only enjoying the carnal pursuits.

Syreena (as we learned in Elijah) fell ill as a child, and to cure her, the Mistral used her singing gift to heal her, but used a part of her soul as well, so Syreena, lycanthrope princess, mutated to have 2 shifter forms-dolphin, and falcon.
"Lycanthropes loved a good mutation, especially a powerful one like hers."
Well Ruth takes Syreena and tortures her to make Siena pay for the death of her daughter Mary (the end of Elijah). Damien has this drive to follow Syreena and once he realizes what's going on, he does everything in his power to save her. What's interesting is that this is before the two have had much interaction, so he doesn't know why he does this, but he doesn't question the desire to do so. After he saves her, he drinks of her blood and finds out why vampires aren't supposed to drink from other Nightwalkers...unfortunately he also finds what his kind is missing, and the end to their eternal ennui with life. She is is mate, and it turns out that the two only gain in strength from sharing blood-he can transform into a raven shortly after, and it rocks the vampire world. But right after Syreena wakes to find Damien followed her and saved her at great risk to himself, she kisses him. he asks her why,
"Because it is a fairy tale, Damien. And in fairy tales, the princess always kisses the prince who rescues her."
And once they realize they love each other, Damien thinks something so sweet. I love this one because he is such an alpha male we expect him to possess her. But he feels the opposite, and I loved it.
"If someone could truly possess another person, she was doing so to him."
Now I know my last 2 reviews have not been so flattering to the writing. This book was so much better! There was still a lot of over-thinking everything, but not to the extent that I wanted to skim or put the book down. This had so much more in it, both action and romance, that it was the best in the series, no doubt, but also it proved what I have said before- that the storyline for the whole series is amazing and that is why I kept reading. I think the world created is fantastic, and I am invested in the characters enough to keep reading even after a book I thought was -meh- So Damien being so great was a breath of fresh air, and a reminder as to why I kept reading even after Gideon.

I am not a romantic person, which is strange given that my main genre is romance, I don't like romantic films and I am not very big on PDA. Which, is probably why romances I love the most are series like Shelly Laurenston's Pride series and Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole they all have the love stuff in, but they also have crazy females who are a little bit emotionally retarded and men whose main wooing technique is the basic shag-them-till-they-love-me, there aren't too many heart to heart exchanges and the ones that are are short and to the point like this:
Okay so now you know what a truely unromantic soul I have, you may start to realize why I am not enjoying this series as much as everyone seems to. Basically it has too much mushy stuff and I find myself rolling my eyes so much that I think my eyeballs are unscrewing! This book was no different. I really liked the idea of all the different Nightwalker species and their cultures and how they relate to eachother, those are what always get these books a few stars, it is the romance that brings it down for me.
I also like the story and how with each book Ruth, the insane yet cunning former Demon council member, gets stronger and stronger until you do begin to wonder if the Nightwlakers will be able to defeat her. I like that hint of danger in this series and I can't wait till we get into a big confrontation with her.
So I love teh plot and the world these books are set in but the romance aspect...just isn't for me.

A NEW WORLD VAMPIRE!!!
Somehow this series manages to get more awesome and in-depth. Lets recap shall we. This is the 4th book in the Nightwalkers series, and they include Vampires, Demons, Lycanthropes etc. basically all these species can’t go out in the sun they are more powerful at night hence the name. So some prophecies have come to light and is changing the way the nightwalker view each other once when they were at war with each other now they have to come together to fight an evil that is geared towards destroying them, plus unlikely mating have begun to happen. Demons marrying Lycans and so on and so forth. It’s a new age in the world of the NW’s.
Damien is a vampire and is known as the vamp prince he is the ruler of his people. At the tender age of 949 he has known his share of boredom and melancholy, because you cant be alive for so long without wanting to pull you hair out when you have seen it all and experienced all in the world. He has never known love though, its in the vampire makeup, emotional feelings is all but missing. To make matters worse he has to constantly fight to keep his crown. Never known love, old as dirt and have to keep defending his title doesn’t really make for a happy vampire. Did I mention he is gorgeous, a bright light at the end of a very dark tunnel. That tunnel is about to be lit up like Canada day all fireworks and flames when he meets Lycanthrope princess Syreena.
Syreena is modest, quiet and advisor to her queen who is also her sister. She has lived a life of solitude brought up by monks. You see Syreena was very ill as a child and upon being cured her genetic make was forever altered. She has tow animals that she can change into, a falcon and a dolphin a weird combo I know but they both suit her personality well. Fast and sharp like the Falcon and intelligent and brave like the Dolphin. Harlequin in her appearance with her mismatched eyes and hair she is treated with care but is also ostracized because of the way she looks. Longing for companionship, love and a family of her own, she never knows if the males are just after her altered genetics and the power it carries. Until she meets Damien but he is a vampire and there’s no way they can mate being from two very different species. All is fair in love and war, because it will be a battle prove their love for each other.
This book was my fave and that has everything to do with Syreena, you don’t mess with her. Her appearance says small and cute but in lightening speed she will have a dagger through your heart and her fingers around your neck. Plus Damien is just plain dark and sexy, and he balances Syreena quite well. As a team they kick butt, just plain awesomeness. Once again Miss Frank delivers with her superb storytelling and the way she is able to intricate that of the histories of all these nightwalkers, because once you know how they are made up you cant wait to see which species she puts together to fall hopelessly in love. Plus the bad guy or should I say woman makes you want to yell expletives at the book and have you hoping you could teleport in the book and wring her demon black magic using neck. This series has just been pure entertainment to read, Noah here I come with bells on and my glasses.

Damien the Vampire Prince has lived for over 1000 years. Has traveled the world and consorted with Kings and Queens. He has never fallen and love, but when he meets Syreena she's a Lycanthrope Princess everything changes for both of them.
The Nightwalkers are being hunted by human necromancers and the leaders of all the Nightwalkers species are tired of it and want to put an end to it.
Damien wants to protect his people but he's also helping the Demons, Lycanthropes, Shadow Walkers. He can't stay away from Syreena and when she is kidnapped by their #1 enemy he follows her and rescues her. And that's when the magic begins with the two of them.
I loved the way Damien protects Syreena and the way he devotes himself to her, (big sigh), truly magical the way connect.

Alleine schon deswegen nur ein Stern, weil ich beim Lesen immer Siena und Syreena verwechselt habe...
Ne, Spaß. Das hat mich zwar oft irritiert, ist aber nicht der Grund für die Bewertung. Die hier geschaffene Welt ist sehr faszinierend, ich liebe die Grundidee. Aber die Umsetzung und die Charaktere sind leider einfach nicht meins. Die Hoffnung, dass der letzte Band das Drama um Ruth auflöst, lässt mich weiterlesen.

I don't get it. Honestly, I just don't get it. This book was Blah, blah, boring,long winded blah. The story has SO much detail and no substance. I honestly don't care about EVERY freaking touch, smell, sight and sound that EVERY character experiences. Oh and then switch to the next characters reactions to the SAME DAMN THING. This saddened me, I wanted so badly to like this book. I was looking forward to learning about Damien and the vampires, not to mention I assumed there would be some advancement in the overall plot but nothing happened. It was just a REALLY dull romance with dull characters. *Sigh* Now I have to PRAY that Noah will at least make an interesting story.

OMG! I'm two for two today!! I just now finished "Damien" by Jacquelyn Frank, the fourth book of the Nightwalkers series. What a fantastic series! Love it, love it, love it.
Damien is the Vampire Prince. He's seen and done it all in his almost thousand years of 'living' and has become jaded. Then he meets Syreena. Well, she actually tries to kill him at the end of book 3. Now circumstances have brought them together again and he finds himself drawn to her. When she is kidnapped and almost killed, he's the one that saves her and endangers himself in the process. This event forges their friendship...and a little more.
Syreena has always been different. These differences and her position as the current heiress to the throne (until her sister the Queen has children) and Queen's counselor have resulted in a restricted life. Her near death and rescue by the alluring Vampire Prince are stirring all kinds of new hungers in her.
One of the best things about this series is that the author doesn't limit herself to one paranormal entity. Her first couple of books were about Demons. She built her world with a deft hand and new and fascinating views. In her 3rd book, she paired Demon with Lycanthrope, two species who had until recently been at war! Now, we have Lycanthrope and Vampire! We're learning about the lore and history of each species and I'm finding myself fascinated. If you like paranormals, don't miss this series!

One of the best things about this series is that the author doesn't limit herself to one paranormal entity. Her first couple of books were about Demons. She built her world with a deft hand and new and fascinating views. In her 3rd book, she paired Demon with Lycanthrope, two species who had until recently been at war! Now, we have Lycanthrope and Vampire! We're learning about the lore and history of each species and I'm finding myself fascinated. If you like paranormals, don't miss this series!

I loved it. It was everything I had expected. I really wanted to read Damien's story. What I like about this series is that I never know what will happen next. In most of the other paranormal series you just know how everything will end at the end but not in these books. I mean you know that they'll get together but not all the other events that will happen.
I really enjoy reading books written by Jacquelyn Frank.
A better review to come if I ever re'read this book,lol. Not in the mood right now.

I really liked this book and I was so looking forward to it. But I'm deducting a star from this and reasons will follow in a minute.
This one was about the charismatic Vampire Prince, and my long time crush, Damien, and Lycanthrope Princess and part-time Monk Syreena.
I loved both characters. Damien was already a given but I found I really liked Syreena as well. Her appearance to start with, is very different from everyone around her cause she's an anomaly, thanks to some incident she's suffered when she was young and almost died. Her differences though are exactly what makes her, well, her.
She hasn't lived the life of an ordinary princess, she has been raised among Monks and she has skills of reasoning to go with her combat ones.
Damien, on the other hand, has been a Prince for a long time. He has a whole race that looks upon him but at the same time there are those who're after his crown who'd take any opportunity to take him down, any weak moment to pounce on him. So he lives secluded and as we progress we find that he's not used to having anyone else to consider himself with in his life.
I've had the impression that Damien was this old, experienced vampire with an aura similar to Gideon's but he surprised me with some childish decisions here. Not that he lost any of his charm and appeal, mind you, but especially his plotting with Jasmine behind Syreena's back was not like him. Though he was also extremely charming, even more so that he was in any previous books, so he redeemed himself to this gal :)
I really did like their relationship. They were playful, they were logical, and they were hot. Cause, let's face it, one of them is a Lycanthrope and the other is a freaking vampire. So I guess the hotness is expected. One thing I couldn't get over was that I thought their storyline ended so abruptly. And I didn't get the fullfillment that they resolved everything about their relationship. They had an important, in my opinion, trust issue towards the end of the book about following Ruth to find out which vampire traitor was working with her, and I didn't think they should've gotten over the whole issue with such ease. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they worked things out but it was as if they talked it over, I turned the page and the book was over. The end didn't feel like the end, you know? I felt like something was missing there.
And then there was the Jasmine thing. I'm sorry but as much as I tried to understand her jelaousy and the way of the vampire society, I just couldn't click with that woman. A part of me kept waiting for the moment for Jasmine to turn on Damien and Syreena based solely on her extreme dislike for the Princess and great desire to see them apart. I just couldn't warm up that girl. And I thought she had way too much point of view in the book.
And oh dear, I missed Gideon! So so much. I would've expected to see him a lot in this book, at least as much as he was in Elijah and Siena's, since he was an old friend of Damien's. But my Gideon only appeared once with a tiny scene where he tended to Syreena?!
And Legna too? We were informed by the end, and by a newly added Shadowdweller character, that she gave birth to her baby boy and that's all?? Needless to say this pair is my favourite, along with Elijah and Siena, but the lack of this couple was not something I liked.
Even though I still enjoyed the action, the storyline and the characters, I couldn't help but feel like Jacquelyn Frank got bored towards the end and decided, well, 'That's it. I'm moving to the next one.'

Yet another great book in the Nightwalker series by Jacquelyn Frank. I think this one might be my favorite so far. Might be!
This one centers on the title character (as all of this series do), Damien, Prince of Vampires. He finds himself attracted to the Princess of Lycanthropes, Syreena.
As always, she doesn't want to get involved with Damien because of the prejudice that her people still hold towards Vampires (other Nightwalkers in general, actually). And with her sister, the Queen, having recently taken Elijah on as her Royal Consort (its like their married but he has no say in her governance of her people), Syreena doesn't think that the Lycanthropes will be able to handle another Nightwalker breed mating with their royalty.
So that begins the back and forth between them. Damien, having lived much of his life according to his instincts, has much less of a problem with this relationship. He can just FEEL that its right.
Of course, the Evil Bitch (I won't name her because that would give too much away to anyone just starting the series) makes several appearances. One of which seriously injures the Princess. More new, interesting things about Nightwalkers are discovered and it is still shaking the foundations that each race holds dear.
Its a great read; very suspenseful! Lots of action and kickin' ass!! In this installment, there SEEMS to be much less of the inner monologue that was driving me crazy a few books back so perhaps that is why I enjoyed it more?
Again, if you are interested in the series, start from the beginning. The author does a great job trying to convey all the necessary information but its just not possible to get all of the little nuances and relationships that make up this little community of sorts. Its a much richer world if you have the story from the start!
I have to recommend this one. Like I said, a great read, excellent pacing and plenty of suspense! I was so into it that I keep wanting to throw the Kindle across the room when the bad guys get an upper hand!!!!! This book will not disappoint!! :)

Very sweet. But kinda boring. Damien kept getting his ass kicked, but I thought he was supposed to be a badass. It was much better than the 2nd and 3rd books in the series - so that is a plus.

Another excellent book in the series!
Oh, how I am loving this series! The action, in or out of the bedroom, is incredible! You see the scenes as Frank wrote them, and they stick with you, long after the book is finished, LOL!
Damien is the perfect hero. Strong, he refuses to believe he’s sulking when he actually is and turns it into anger and a temper tantrum instead.
Syreena is stronger, physically and mentally, than most believed her to be. I loved how she grew even more, and how she came around to Damien’s way of thinking, all on her own. It was high time she made decisions for herself. She learned how, the hard way.
The one scene between Damien and Syreena kept me glued, word for word, paragraph for paragraph, page for page. I love that scene - the violence of it, the erotic sensuality of it. Terrific!
Meanwhile, the enemy is getting stronger and bolder, and I can’t wait until she’s brought down. Ruth may be really intelligent and savvy, but her way of thinking is screwed, and she is one enemy that will have to be defeated - there is no other alternative.
Jasmine, even if she is Damien’s ‘right-hand-man’, angered me to no end. I think Syreena and she need a good round between the two of them. But then, it’s to be expected. I think anyone would have reacted the same way as Jasmine, especially after having been with Damien for over 5 hundred years. While Syreena still feels jealousy when Damien and Jasmine are together, she doesn’t mull over it. Whereas Jasmine is completely opposite in that way of thinking. Meanwhile, Syreena and Jasmine are more alike than they realize, I think.
I can’t wait for Noah’s book, which is supposed to be out in September ‘08! Two months won’t have gone by fast enough!

This was an interesting installment, its been so long since I read this author and I think I just wasn't in the mood for this writing style and I do think that I might want to do audiobook for these as I remember those being good. I found the world building to be intense and dangerous and really well done, the biggest issue that I ended up having with this one was the pacing. I just couldn't fully get into this one, so its probably a "me" issue as the story itself was solid and I was really into these characters. I definitely would like to get back to these books but going to see if the audio does a better turnout for me.

I have tried repeatedly to enjoy the world of the Nightwalkers and every time, I scratch my head and go “huh?” Perhaps I am missing something but every one of Frank’s books are so long winded and go on and on without any major action. I also think part of my problem is the long paragraphs that don’t really make sense and the sex is pretty ho hum.
Damien is the prince of all vampires and his story involves Syreena, sister and princess to the queen of the Lycanthropes. There is a magical sort of library that has all the secrets and history of the Nightwalkers which includes all creatures such as Vampires, Lycanthropes and Demons. Syreena is there to guard this library and Damian goes to read some books. Out pops an evil demon skank who attacks Syreena and Damien rescues her. All this rescuing makes them both horny for each other and they figure out they are each other’s mates even though it is not possible for a Vampire and Lycanthrope to be together. But for some reason it worked for Syreena’s sister and her consort who is an important Demon. Damien and Syreena think a lot while trying to deny each other. Plus there are some rogue vampires around intent on causing mayhem along with the demon skank who won’t go away and realize she has no chance in wining.
It is really hard to explain in so many words that Damien doesn’t really have much going on. Yes, there are some fight scenes and a love story, but this was so slow moving and blah, that I really didn’t care if Damien and Syreena would go off and have a few Vampthropes… or would that be Lycanpires?

Damien, Prince of the Vampires, enters the inter-species marrying loop in Jacquelyn Frank’s fourth Nightwalker entry. Damien is my favorite in this series for two reasons. First, it keeps moving, whether by dialogue or action and without the verboseness that irked me previously. Second, it could slide onto a bookshelf at Goodreads entitled “avid seduction of a hesitant heroine”. Damien truly is a prince when it comes to his pursuit of Syreena. That he made her pay some dues was excellent – I loved him.
Damien is the acknowledged leader of the Vampires, but it’s a role that keeps him looking over his shoulder. Syreena, the Lycanthrope princess, has always longed for a husband and family, but Fate’s choice throws her. Damien readily accepts the bond between them and Syreena is captivated but she wants definitive proof that the bond is possible between their races. That proof may be found in the recently discovered Nightwalker library but working to unite the Nightwalker’s against their expanding enemy comes first.
Xe Sands excels with this series. Each character, and there are many, has a unique voice which is the accent from the country of their origin. Can I guarantee accent authenticity? No, but I’d listen to this series just to hear Xe Sands voicing them. Plus she brings the couple, their feelings and the circumstances, to life in a way that is beyond my abilities. I thought this book was an excellent addition to the wonderful Nightwalkers series. However, I've heard some rumors that "Noah" will be the last book in the series (at least for awhile), and this one opened up so many routes for potential story lines that it will be interesting to see which ones the author fleshes out.
And from the annals of Analyze It or Enjoy It:
ANNALYZE IT - if all the Nightwalkers species continue to intermarry, then all the separate species will die out in their original form and congeal into one conglomerate race. In fact, if this was how everyone lived in the past then why didn't it happen before? What will the children be like?
ENJOY IT - Damn, vampires and lycanthropes have some spicy sex scenes!
Did Damien remind anyone else of Rhett Butler? Or is it just me?

Acht Jahre ist es her, seit ich den dritten Band der Reihe gelesen habe, aber ich habe es immer noch in guter Erinnerung. Sogar einzelne Szenen, und das muss doch nach all der Zeit für sich sprechen!
Auch dieser Teil gefiel mir gut! Einiges fand ich etwas übereilt erzählt, wobei ich dachte, ich habe vorher was überlesen. Also z.B. ein wenig mehr Backstory zu Syreena's Vergangenheit. Vielleicht ist das aber doch etwas, das ich aus den vorherigen Büchern vergessen habe...? Nichtsdestotrotz mochte ich die Beziehung zwischen Damien und Syreena sehr! Und ausnahmsweise sind sie mal nicht sofort übereinander hergefallen, was trotz der Thematik der Bücher logisch war. Aber als es dann soweit war... oha, steamy!

Another great read in the Nightwalkers series. The Vampire Prince, Damien, has been around for many centuries, delighting in causing mischief and seeking pleasure wherever he can find it. With the threat of the Necromancers and the renegade Demon Ruth out for blood, he has turned his interests to protecting his people and aiding his allies. When Syreena, the Lycanthrope Princess, is kidnapped, he picks up the trail and rescues her. In an attempt to save her life, he drinks her blood, an act which is taboo among vampires - they are never to drink from other Nightwalkers. Infused with her blood, he notices a few changes in himself.
Syreena has lived a sheltered and cloistered life as a Monk of the Pride. When her sister rose to the throne, Siena appointed her as a political adviser, thus drawing her out of her seclusion. Syreena has been an anomaly since childhood. The cure for an illness had left her mutated. Not just in looks, but in her physical make up. Where "normal" Lycanthropes have three forms, she has an additional two. She also has powers no one but her knows off. For all these things, she's coveted and treasured. While some may find delight in that, Syreena doesn't. She feels like no one sees her for herself, but as something to study, train, breed. Everyone, until Damien.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story between Syreena and Damien. They had so many things in common, but also differences that made them an excellent choice for a couple. As a vampire, Damien has only a few basic needs – entertainment, diversity and sex. Syreena doesn't know how to make choices for herself. She doesn't see herself as important enough to be "selfish". As her sister's adviser and heir to the throne, she thinks only about what is best for their people and how best to aid Siena in political matters. When she meets Damien, he makes her feel things she's never felt before. The feeling is mutual. Vampires don't have mates or wed – their interests to vast and flighty to contemplate such things. Suddenly Damien finds himself drawn to Syreena, but he has to figure out if it is the vampire drawn to the fearless anomaly or if it is the man drawn to the woman, who has shown him nothing but trust and openness he's never had directed towards him.
The development of their relationship held a great appeal to me. I don't think it was rushed into based on hormones gone haywire, like in the previous books. Damien was gentle in his approach of trying to coax Syreena out of her shell, and getting her to assert herself – to see herself as special and not something to be sacrificed for the greater good of any race. In turn, he has to get used to acting responsibly when there is not only himself to take into consideration. I didn't like Jasmine much, though I understood her nature and her feelings towards Damien. Up until the end, I didn't know whether Jasmine had let her jealousy get the better of her or not. Ruth is back with even meaner tricks and our H/H will find themselves in a battle for survival. I look forward to seeing glimpses of this couple in the remaining two books.

When the Vampire ruler, Damien, saves Syreena, Princess and heir-apparent to the throne of the Lycanthropes, from the clutches of the insane, vengeful Mind Demon, he's completely unprepared for the staggering attraction between them.
The possible relationship between them is a total taboo in his society, not to mention the possible ramifications if they would decide to give in to the sudden passion flaring between them...Unfortunately, neither Syreena or Damien have much of a choice in the matter. It all comes down to the stunning compatibility in their chemistry...And in true Vampire fashion, taboos and rules are meant to be broken.
I loved this one! I'm rather partial to vampires, so this was just up my alley. This book was yet another lesson in differences attracting each other and repercussions such unions might have. Damien and Syreena were perfectly delineated and absolutely perfect for one another. She needed someone to teach her to live and make her own choices, while he needed a (rather rude) shake from his Vampiric stupor, ennui and "old" routine for just looking out for himself (as it was beautifully put in the last chapter). While this book was a rather drastic removal from the template of the previous ones—the characters from the first two books don't appear at all (except for Gideon's tiny cameo)—I found I didn't miss them at all, despite the author's obvious knack for making them appear without taking center stage. The story and the two leads made well for the "void"...And the new (supporting) character was enough to keep my mind occupied with being annoyed. I'd be more than happy if Jasmine didn't make another appearance. Ever!
The progressing main theme of the series is getting more complex with every single page (and every single book). The big bad is already so out of it, I cannot imagine how Ms. Frank can outdo it, yet she does every single time, and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next. Unfortunately, the next book is also the last, so the demented ploy will soon come to its untimely and well-deserved end, but I'm sure Ruth, the crazy bitch will go down with a bang...And who better to see to it than my favorite character in the entire series, Noah, the Demon King. Can't wait! *giddy little grin*
Yes, I didn't think anything could top Elijah, but Damien certainly rose to the challenge and won straight on. Unlike so many other series, when the first few books are wonderful, but then all goes downhill from there, the Nightwalkers just get better and better.
So if you are a fan of paranormals, you cannot miss this book. Yet, as I've previously noted, it would be better to start at the beginning, although this one is an "easier" stand-alone than the previous ones, since there is not overly much detail from the previous stories, except, of course, the main story-arc.

Damien, Prince of the Vampires is bored with it all. He's weary of the sameness of living so long and looking after his people and feels the need for something more. Escorting his companion of many centuries, Jasmine, to the newly opened and still contested Nightwalker library, he encounters Princess Syreena of the Lycanthrope and can't resist teasing her with challenging comments. Soon Damien goes to find Syreena to apologize for his behavior but is only able to find blood traces of her which he tracks to Mistral lands. He also finds that Syreena has been taken by the demon Ruth and rescues her but also breaks vampire law by taking Syreena's blood. Syreena and Damien are not only aware of the broken law they have discovered new and tender feelings toward each other that neither can easily handle. Unforeseen consequences occur due to Damien tasting Syreena's blood. It seems that they may have triggered both a blood bond and a mating bond. The forbidden taking of Nightwalker blood has not only broken vampire law, and upset Jasmine, it has also wrought unexpected changes within Damien. Ruth as ever is a diabolical criminal - but I'm a bit tired of her being the only real villain here. Overall I didn't think the series arc was furthered with this entry. Also for my taste both Damien and Syreena were quite bland, they seemed to lack any chemistry. This installment to the series was even harder to get into than the previous ones and I had no interest until approximately 35% into the book and even so I found myself skimming chunks. However the last 40% or so was a huge improvement and quite readable. For the most part I found the book to be so overwritten that it became difficult for me to follow - thus spoiling my reading enjoyment. Previous glimpses of the vampire portion of this series had left me with anticipation of this story - but I was quite disappointed with this effort.

Zum Inhalt: Als Syreena, eine ungewöhnliche Lykantrhropin und Schwester und Thronerbin von Siena, verschwindet, zögert Damien keine Sekunde, um sie aus den Fängen ihrer Entführer zu befreien. Doch dabei wird er überrascht, was das Schicksal für sie beide bereit hält. Währenddessen schmiedet Ruth weiterhin ihre Pläne, um alle Schattenwandler ins Verderben zu stürzen und sich für den Tod ihrer Tochter zu rächen.
Meine Meinung: Ich mochte den Charakter von Syreena sehr gerne und auch die Idee hinter ihrem. Sie ist die ganze Zeit zwischen zwei Wesen gefangen und besitzt mehr Gestalten als gewöhnliche Lykanthropen, sodass sie seit frühester Kindheit unter den Schutz eines Ordens namens The Pride steht und dort aufwächst. Sie hat nie eine eigene Entscheidung getroffen, sondern immer nur dem Befehl des Ordens oder des Reiches gefolgt und daher war ihre Reaktion so natürlich nachvollziehbar, als sie das erste Mal in ihrem Leben eine eigene Entscheidung treffen muss. Währenddessen blieb vor allen Dingen Damien am Anfang eher kühl, aber nachdem man verstand, wieso er so handelt, sind seine Handlungen genauso nachvollziehbar. Dennoch hat mir ein wenig die Dynamik zwischen den beiden Charakteren gefehlt. Sie sind beide starke und auch verletzliche Charaktere, aber mir hat irgendetwas gefehlt, um die Harmonie, die zwischen den Beiden herrschte, perfekt zu machen. Die Geschichte ist spannend, gut erzählt und es kommt zu einer überraschenden Wendung, aber ansonsten lässt das Buch noch viele Fragen offen.
Gesamtfazit: Eine gelungene Fortsetzung.

'Damien' is the best of the Nightwalker books. I enjoyed 'Jacob', was disappointed in 'Gideon', couldn't read 'Elijah,' but LOVED 'Damien'.
Jacquelyn Frank continues to build her unique world of demons, druids, vampires, lycans, mistrals and shadowdwellers. We learn more of their culture and histories as the Nightwalkers gain lost knowledge of their dependence on one another. The story might be difficult to understand without reading at least the first two books.
Damien, the Vampire Prince, rescues Syreena, the princess of the Lycans from the rogue demon Ruth. They discover their attraction to one another in the process. Many centuries old, Damien and most vampires, struggle with apathy...they've seen and done everything. But Syreena stirs new feelings in Damien and he pursues her as his mate. Syreena was raised in isolation and finds it difficult to balance the duty to the lycans with her feelings for Damien; he must convince her of the rightness of their relationship.
Damien is a vampire who knows what he wants and goes after it, although he does make some mistakes along the way. Syreena is strong but not domineering. Ms. Frank does a fantastic job of writing so that the reader can actually feel the intensity of Damien and Syreena's relationship. I experienced many splendid chills down by back while reading this book.

One of the features I love best about Goodreads is the ease of which it is possible to follow a genre through its twists and turns to sub genres you never would have guessed existed. Though I chuckled the when I found alien erotica, I guffawed the day I discovered cyborg erotica- 'Tis a rich tapestry, the human imagination.
Damien could best be described as emo PNR. Darkly romantic, the conjured world is a fantasy-scape of shadows and princes, with danger lurking at every turn. The lovers, Damien and Syreena, are fated for one another and helpless to resist their love, even if it could kill them.
There is an overarching plot throughout the series that links the books together which I shall not go into as this is the only one I have read, but the main thrust of this book is the angst from the inevitable-and-yet-impossible love story.
And angsty it is... at one point the ancient and deadly Prince of the Vampires, Damien, is sulking in his bedroom because his love life is off. I half expected him to stamp his feet and shout "it's not fair!". Not sexy.
For this reason, this book and the series are not for me.

"Damien" by Jacquelyn Frank was just a little bit different from the previous four books in the Nightwalkers series. It had a lot more intense sexual passion between the two main characters, and more character development with the ongoing war between the traitor demon, Ruth. This book also introduced more of the Nightwalkers including the Shadowdweller counselors and more of the Mistrals as well.
The main focus of the story was about Damien, the Prince of the Vampire species, and Syreena, the Lycanthrope Princess. When Syreena is taken hostage by Ruth, Damien goes to find the Princess and return her to safety. But, what neither one anticipates is the strong attraction to each other, and the undeniable bond to be more than just allies in the evergrowing war between Ruth and all of the Nightwalker people.
This book was a very nice addition to this ongoing series. Damien was just a fantastic character, and didn't disappoint when he pursued his love Syreena. Great characters, nice story plot, this book is a must read to all fans of Ms. Frank!

While I really enjoyed this one, it didn't grab me as some of the others have, which makes me sad. I liked what I saw of Damien in the other books and I was hoping for more with his book. That's not to say I don't like him now, because I do. I love him and I love Syreena. But their coming together/courtship if you will, fell short to me. It wasn't as passionate emotionally as the others have been. There were a few times that my heart went all fluttery in my chest because of something Damien said or did, but not the extent it did with Gideon and Elijah. I love that these two particular Nightwalkers found their way together though and what it means for the culture around them. Jasmine...I hope she redeems herself in Adam's book because right now I want to rip her hair out and twist her head off her shoulders. She pissed me off so much even though I understand her reasoning. Ruth needs to die now. Overall it was good and I look forward to seeing more of Damien and Syreena, but I'm hoping Noah's book restores my all out emotionally investment.

Another story different from the previous sequels - I like that I do not know what to expect from each subsequent proceeding!
This story brings women, strong women, even more of them, but the two in the main roles.
Princess is a true heroine: a strong, courageous, sacrificial, realistic, loyal, adventurous, yet passionate, sensual and jealous (not too much, just moderately jealous). She's aware of what she wants and what she can, and accept things as they are.
On the other side is Jasmine. She is already a little more classic example of female characters: uncertain in her place, but fighting and manipulative in achieving her's objectives.
Her character is shown somewhat superficial, but we can imagine that she will be in the next one below to get to know and we'll probably be able to empathize with her, probably we will and like her.
For now, it was easy to pick a side in this match.
And Damien (Damien who?) is of course the perfect man: a dangerous, powerful, beautiful, gentle, understanding - are there such men in real life, or we can only imagine?
