Anna Dewdney was an award-winning children's-book author, illustrator, teacher, mother, and enthusiastic proponent of literacy and reading aloud to children. She was the author of the bestselling Llama Llama Red Pajama series of picturebooks, among many others. She lived with her partner Reed Duncan in Vermont where she worked, gardened, and spent time with her daughters and dogs.
This is the 2nd llama llama book my daughter was given! I think this one is her favorite because it has “touch” things throughout the book for babies and toddlers to feel the different textures as they read! Super cute!
This was another great llama llama book. The pictures are so bright and fun. The touch and feel is perfect for little ones. This book is a tongue twister even for me. .
“llama llama at the beach, sunblock hats, one towel, each buckets, shovels, sand de llama, makes the castle big play in water. Splash and Splish llama swims just like a fish . surprises in the sea. What does llama, llama see ? serve, and seashells, sand and sun happy beach day, so much fun.”
This is a tactile board book with a squishy ball and other textured areas to touch as you read. My 2 1/2 year old is already a bit too old for this, and my 5-year-old definitely is, but Dewdney's Llama Llama books have enduring appeal because L insisted on taking this home when she saw it at the library, and then S wanted to hear me read it at story time, too.
I had to guide the baby through but I think he got it and was interested in the various textures and surfaces and colors and mirrors. Very little text, which right now is a bonus. He doesn’t have a long attention span for words.
A rhyming touch-and-feel board book about Llama Llama that is set on a beach. Little ones will enjoy touching the different textured objects especially the towel and sand castle as well as seeing themselves in the mirrored glasses. A fun book to share with toddlers before visiting the beach.
This is a touch feel book, and while that is a nice edition to the Llama Llama series, something about this book doesn't read as fun as the others that we own.
I wanted to try some more Llama, Llama books with my son and the first one I came across after the Halloween one we read recently was this summer board book. I love the beach, so I'd read a beach book any time of year. Anyway, it's one of those "touch & feel" books that has different textures built into the page for babies and toddlers to explore. Well, this copy had a puffy "ball" on the front cover that my son got really mad he couldn't remove. So this one is getting snuck back to the library after only being read once because it is a futile pursuit to try and explain to a 1.5 year old why he can't play with the ball!
I think this is the only board book that I read this whole month. Written with Dewdney’s charm and rhyme and meter, Llama Llama goes to enjoy the beach in this touch-and-feel book. The touch-and-feel elements are not guided, but still make the book more interactive than an ordinary picture book. The text of the story was really quite enjoyable, simple but, well, charming.
Big hit with the 18 month old. Our library carries the touch-and-feel version of this book, which has some features (like mirror paper for sunglasses) that we haven't seen in other touch-and-feel books. It's a cute summer time read.
Nice variety of textures for El to explore, and great pictures to remind her of our summer beach trip. The mirrored sunglasses were especially cool (and extremely reflective, more than similar pages in other touch and feel books).
As one of the shorter Llama Llama books in board & touch&feel form, the story is sweet and fun. Dewdney does not emphasis water safety like other early readers set at the beach, but it's still a good book for young readers.
Love the books that add something for the kids to touch. Kierra loved touching this one as well as reading. And I love Llama Lamam books. Great illustrations and always fun stories!
