I do solemnly swear that I do not understand why I was recently gifted with multiple books on mixed drinks. I do not average even a single mixed drink a month. And, I can’t believe it is a vote by my friends that I quit serving them wine or beer. I will do my best to put reviews of all of these books up simultaneously for your consumption and would appreciate any thoughts you might care to offer on the subject.
This is the most recently updated edition (2015) with “exciting new drinks.” Since I am not an expert, I can’t tell you which are the newest among the over 1000 available. (Is it the Ink Street or the Kiss Me Quick that is more recent?) There are pages of advice on how to create and stock a home bar and how to plan a successful party. It has all the drinks listed alphabetically, but in the back of the book you can search drinks by their ingredients. For purposes of comparison, there are 19 drinks containing Galliano and 58 containing apricot brandy. Instructions are pretty basic, consisting of things such as: fill; add; shake; strain; pour; garnish. No photo, unless you count the one on the cover.
This is the one to have if you can have only one book on the subject. 4.5*
