From the national bestselling author of Wrecked and Razed comes an emotionally charged story of undeniable passion and life-affirming love…
Like his brothers Zach and Zane, Trey Barnes thought he had found the love of his life. But fate had other plans. A widower who’s had to raise his five-year-old son on his own, Trey has not allowed himself to be with another woman. Until he meets Ressa Bliss at—of all places—a children’s library program. The beautiful librarian is wonderful with his son, Clay, but every time Trey even considers asking her out, he is tortured by guilt.
Fate is indeed fickle. When the two meet again at a conference, this time the attraction is too powerful to resist. But is their connection and passion strong enough to survive Trey’s deep inner torment?

Bio...
Shiloh Walker has been writing since she was a kid. She fell in love with vampires with the book Bunnicula and has worked her way up to the more...ah...serious vampire stories. She loves reading and writing anything paranormal, anything fantasy, and nearly every kind of romance. Once upon a time she worked as a nurse, but now she writes full time and lives with her family in the Midwest.
My Review: It's like this book was written specifically for me...a librarian and an author with incredible chemistry...I LOVED THIS BOOK.
The book begins the night of the funeral when Trey buried his wife. Needing to forget, just for a few hours, he went out with the intent of getting drunk and forgetting for just a few hours. She died during childbirth and the baby is still in the NICU. Trey wakes up in his own hospital bed after being drugged and beaten with very little memory from what really happened. Then the real story picks up 6 years later with Trey and his son at the library, where Trey is awestruck by the pretty librarian...a reaction he hasn't had to a woman since he buried his wife.
Everything about this book is good. My heart aches for Trey...he's just so wounded by the loss that was compounded by the attack at the bar that night. It's been 6 years and he's had exactly 3 really awful first dates since. He's a shell of his former self, but it's his son that has kept him moving forward with his life. And then he meets Ressa. I liked how the first six months of their interactions are entirely at the library where they both feel the chemistry, but neither is brave enough to do anything about that. Trey has had issues and though he's showing signs of recovery, he really doesn't want to go through that kind of humiliating experience again...esp. not with her.
But Ressa has her own issues. She's raising her 5 yo cousin and with school starting for her soon, Ressa has decided it's best if she moves to a library branch closer to home...No more Clay and his sexy daddy (who she doesn't even know his name.) But then she comes across Trey at a book convention and realizes that he's the author they've been trying to get to come into the library for ages. She had no idea...and yes, the chemistry between them is just as strong.
Like I said before, I really liked the way the story set up. Ressa and Trey are combustable together, but it's still a slow build-up just in them getting brave enough to make a move. That part of the story line takes months and although they are still virtual strangers...they aren't. They've seen one another regularly through that time.
I loved the aspect of the story with the books (I know...no huge surprise there). But Trey's passion for writing is expertly woven into the story and I love when Ressa goes all fangirl over the romance author. That's a strong tie between them. And Trey's book-themed tattoos...ADORE! The other aspect of the book that really worked for me was Travis and Trey. They're twins and have that elusive twin connection that makes for great reading. I loved that Travis always knew when Trey needed him. And although Trey is a bit caught up in his own drama, he's not oblivious to Travis's pain either...although I really wish he had pushed that aspect a bit more. I cannot wait for Travis's story! I want to know exactly what he's been up to...
I highly recommend this series. I'm a huge fan of Shiloh Walker's writing and these contemporaries are so sexy and fun and yes, they have that classic Walker angst, too, but that just makes them that much better. I've read both this one and #1. Number 2 is in my print TBR...I need to go dig it out and read it soon. I love these brothers!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.
The kids, Clayton and Neecy. It's one of the few times the children of the adult characters are more fun to read about and more interesting than the main characters themselves. I liked these two so much that I envisioned them as a grown-up couple rather than their parents.
The tattoos: I love ink on people that actually MEANS something. The main characters both had ink that spoke to their nerdy/bookish sides.
BOOKS!!!: Nothing better than characters who write books, read books, love books, work around books, blog about books, attend book conventions and even have book tattoos. In short avid bibliophiles like me.
Speaking of book tattoos...hmm. I need to design something like that for myself.
What fell flat:
The main characters. I get it. The hero, Trey was still mourning his wife and because of that pretty much became a hermit. He also had issues with speaking in/dealing with the public, another reason for him to keep a low profile. He's also raising his five year-old son Clayton as a widower. The heroine, Reesa was also dealing with her past and wondering of it would ever catch up to her, which of course also kept her from living. She's also raising her five year-old niece, Neecy.
Yes, they were both wounded souls somehow drawn together. But damn there was just way too much unnecessary drama, too many secrets that really didn't need to be secrets. Parts of the book really dragged on far too long with the main characters feeling entirely too sorry for themselves, and frankly not having a damn good reason to. Especially Reesa who pulled herself up from a bad situation and became successful.
So why four stars? Overall this was a great love story with great characters, they just happened to not be the main ones. I was far more interested in Trey's brothers Zach, Sebastian and Travis (especially Travis). I loved Reesa's Mama Ang and her best friend Farrah. Still, considering that I haven't read a lot of IR recently, this was actually pretty decent.
After being disappointed in the second book in the series, Razed, I am very happy that this third book came roaring back to be almost as enjoyable as the first book Wrecked.
This book features yet another Barnes brother, Trey. From the previous books, we know that Trey is an author, a widower, and a single dad raising his young son. We also know that his wife's death hit him really hard.
Well in this book we see what happens first hand as the prologue takes us back to the night his wife passed away. In the immediate aftermath of her death, Trey does not handle things well and he ends the night in a drunken bender awakening in a hospital himself, beaten and with very sketchy memories of how he got there.
Fast forward five years where Trey, now fairly reclusive, finds himself for the first time since his wife's death attracted to a woman. That woman would be a sexy librarian named Ressa whom he meets while taking his son to story time at the local library.
Ressa and Trey quietly (and secretly) check each other out, but neither one has the courage to admit anything. Sadly, they exit out of each other's orbit due to circumstances, each thinking they've missed their chance.
But later, circumstances push them together again and this time their attraction is not so secret nor so quiet.
One of the things that I immediately liked about this book was how much of it felt a bit of a love letter to book fiends. The hero is a writer and his profession isn't just something he does, but is also important to the plot. The heroine is a librarian who makes no apologies for her love of books and there are passages when the two of them geek out on books. They share favorite quotes. Even the heroes tattoos are all book related (some are obscure and the heroine 'gets' the references immediately). They both go to book conventions, they participate in panels, they meet other book lovers. Also the heroine totally fangirls over romance novels.
Amidst all of that there is a good romance here. Ressa and Trey have chemistry to burn. Even amongst the romantic conflict which veers into the angsty at times. Trey is finally ready to move on. It has been five years since his wife has died and even though he has made up his mind, it is still a bit hard to take off his ring. I thought the author hit the right note between making us understand how devastated he was (and in some lingering way still is) by his wife's death. But she didn't belabor it and make us feel impatient about it.
In the previous book we got a lot of family face time with Trey's family. Since he lives across the country from them, we don't get a lot of family interaction in this on. But a couple of his brothers do appear. I really enjoyed the fact that his twin Travis, enforcing the twin-bond thing that had been established in earlier books, and his movie star brother Seb were both along as supporting characters and were there in key plot moments.
I especially enjoyed Ressa's very quick read of Travis and vice versa. They played off each other very well, two smart folks, sizing each other up real quick and coming up with the correct conclusion.
I also liked Ressa's family. She in loco parentis raising her little cousin Neeci, while her aunt acts as a great mother figure for Ressa.
If I had a quibble...and I do... it would be with the long drawn out reveal of Ressa's big secret that was preventing her from really committing to Trey. I wanted to just tell her to "Say it already!!!" Which, like in the previous book with Keely's big secret, when it was finally revealed I was like... "Wha...? that's it?" when it was finally revealed. Yeah, it is the sort of thing you need to tell someone before you get serious, but I thought she waffled so long it just consumed her and in return it started to consume some of the romance.
But all in all this was a good romance and a good story. And I hope we get Travis' story next. He intrigues me.
The book had potential but the romance disappointed me, it seemed to start in fits & bursts and I didn't see them fall in love but was instead told they did.
Omg this was like a total book lovers orgy! I loved it! He's a writer, she's a librarian, there's a book themed restaurant/date, a book conference, fan girling...I just. So much yay!
Plus he's hella hot, a single daddy (I'm a sucker for those) and the heroine is a pretty awesome woman as well and rocking some killer tats and style.
After reading and enjoying Zane's story in Razed, I was very much intrigued by Trey. He is a writer, single dad to a young son - practically a catnip for me in romance.
I expected a somewhat lighter and more easy going read but was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the story. The slightly darker elements that pop up here and there worked well for and added yet another dimenstion to the romance.
It's a multicultural romance, the heroine is African-American and the hero is white and I think their enthic differences were handled really well in th story - they didn't overshadow the romance but not swept under the carpet either.
Trey was a very interesting character and I liked him from the start. I found it easy to relate to him - the sorrow of the loss of his wife, the difficulties of raising his son alone, the slow return to being a popular writer - all were skilfully presented and felt very real. His issues with romance and intimacy were well grounded, though they seemed to disappear overnight when he met Ressa. It was a case of instalust/love and I never really understood what made Ressa so different (at first sight) from all the other women Trey tried to date previously.
I wasn't so much a fan of Ressa. She was full of life, very strong and independant, just like Trey raising a kid on (her niece) her own. I liked them as a couple and the sex scenes were intense and very, very hot. Yet I found her reasons for not wanting a relationship with Trey too contrived, if not downright silly. Her unwillingness to open up to him, to at least give them a chance to be in a relationship really annoyed me. Her big secret was aslo sort of a letdown. I understand her insecurities and fears, yet she kept pushing Trey away and became annoying.
The whole drama with Tessa's cousin and later with Trey's neighbiur seemed over the top and not really necessary. It added some suspense to the plot but I could have done away without it.
I loved Travis, Trey's twin and I'm excited about his story. Of the other Barnes brothers Sebastian also made an appearence, short but memorable one. The almost supernatural connection between the two twins was very interesting to read and very much liked its role in the story.
Overall, this was an enjoyable romance with some dark overtones, likable characters and little drama. Fans of the series will definitely fell in love with Trey and Ressa's story.

I always wanted to read Shiloh Walker, so when I had the opportunity to read Busted I did. I read the first two books (Wrecked and Razed) in the Barnes Brothers series to prepare for Busted – the third book.
I’d say the Barnes Brothers series keeps getting better and I like each book more. It’s always the characters which draw me in and make me feel. While the guys are mostly somewhat rich and/or famous, at least the woman in the first book was also. The thing is they act ordinary and their attitudes, goals and lifestyles are relatable. They want relatively normal things in life. The brothers believe in family, not so much power or money, except maybe Sebastian.
There was insta-love which doesn’t always make sense but can happen, even in real life, or at least insta – lust. They did have some things in common which helped with their relationship. Trey was awesome and his emotional struggles felt realistic. Ressa’s response to her issues was less believable. While I hated Ressa’s attitude about relationships, I understood it. Once her secrets were out though, it felt ridiculous. Nadine was rather cliché and I could see her happening from the beginning.
So in spite of the things that bother me, I really enjoyed Busted. It was sexy and funny. We got brief bits on the other brothers, at least those single ones yet to have their own books. I’m already excited to learn a lot more about Travis.
Busted is a fun read and I recommend it. I’ll definitely be reading the next book in the series.
giggle worthy quote:
Her aunt smiled now. “So …. You’re the boy who has my girl all flustered.” Trey opened his mouth, closed it, then glanced at Ressa. He wasn’t at all certain how to answer that. Finally, he said. “Well, she’s had the same effect on me, so I figure it’s only fair.”
Busted, Barnes Brothers #3, by Shiloh Walker Grade: B
With each book in the Barnes Brothers series I fall more in love with this family and each book gets better and better. I had eagerly been anticipating Trey’s story since we got to see bits and pieces of him in the previous books and all we really knew was he’s a writer and he is a widowed single father. That alone sparked my interest and I once I started reading I could not put this book down. Shiloh Walker really out did herself with this one!
We switch sides of the country for Trey’s story and end up in Virginia where Trey meets Ressa Bliss a librarian who his son (and himself) take a liking too right away. Trey has not let himself even consider the possibility of dating since his wife died five years earlier and every date he has attempted to go on was a disaster. With Ressa Trey feels a connection he never expected to feel again but struggles with the idea of being with someone other than his late wife. Trey finally realizes it’s time to take a chance and move on with his life like his wife would have wanted but Ressa has secrets that might make that impossible.
Ressa Bliss has not had the easiest life and she has struggled to be where she is today. With the help of her aunt she is the guardian of her young niece and loves the little girl with all of her heart. Ressa still feels tons of guilt over her cousin being in jail and blames herself for it all. After a fun weekend at a book convention Ressa never expected to see Trey again but she struggles with secrets from her past that could possibly destroy both her and Trey’s reputations forever if they get out.
This books is very heavy and it will break your heart over and over again. I love that this book was darker than the others and dealt with some very serious issues. One of the best things about this book (and it needs to happen in more romance novels) was Trey and Ressa being an interracial couple and talking about how people might act about it. It was very real and it was great to have a heroine that wasn’t blonde and blue eyed! Add in the young children, both whose moms aren’t raising them, and you have one of the best books I’ve read all year.
I highly recommend this book to all lovers of romance. It will break your heart, make you believe in love and laugh and cry all within a few chapters. I cannot wait for the next book in this series and am really hoping we get Travis next!
Trey Barnes is not new to us but his complex backstory is so you not only feel his pain but you see him slowly letting it go and learning how to be the man he was, perhaps actually a better man now than he had been before his wife died 5 years before.
Ressa Bliss is a different kettle of fish however, she is a strong lady whose formative years were anything but what one would call normal and in her quest to make a better life she made some poor choices while attending college that to this day haunt and torment her.
Ressa and Trey are another couple whose past almost prevents them to have a future but happily just like his brothers Zach and Zane did Trey hung in there and the HEA that he found was well worth his patience in fighting for it.
Like others who have become addicted to The Barnes Brothers hopefully Trey's twin Travis and youngest brother Sebastien get their turn at an HEA sooner than later, when they do it is going to be wonderful to read about as the first three journeys to happiness were.
Writer Trey is keeping to himself, still struggling with the loss of his wife in an accident six years earlier that nearly took his then unborn son. Trying to get back into living again, he agrees to a convention and to appear on panels. Librarian Ressa has crushed on the gorgeous dad who brings his son to the reading group at the library every week, but with her complicated life she can´t find the courage to act on it. Then she´s volountaring at a book convention, where he is as well. Can they resist the flammable feelings between them and make something out of it? Contemporary romance, emotions, suspense and smutty fluff in a great combo. Love the Barnes Brothers, =) Can´t wait for more! Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Disappointing. With a title like "Busted", I expected...better. I did not feel any chemistry between Trey and Ressa. Clay, Travis and Sebastian didn't add much to the story. The twin connection was useless and unresolved. This story could have been told in 150 pages rather than stretched out to 340 pages of words on paper. The worst part of this book is Ressa's secret past. Turns out to be nothing worth waiting for. This so called climax fell flat. Walker could have done more with Nadine the neighbor. Probably would have been more interesting if there had been a rival instead of some secret past that didn't amount to a hill of beans.
I liked this a lot. I liked the conflict, I liked that they solved it by talking, and I just liked them (and their kids) together. And I like that I am very interested in what will presumably be the stories of the last two brothers.
Great book emotional and sexy. I love Shiloh Walker this joins at least 10 books of hers ill read again and again. You get a beautiful love story that doesn't come easy. I haven't read the others but I will now!!
This has been sitting in my TBR pile way too long, since I got it in a book box. It was good. First, I am not sure what the title has to do with the story. I haven't read the other books in the series, so don't know if that would help. Second, while there is no shame in mourning your spouse and caring for your newborn son, I think he could have used more therapy or something, or maybe his guilty feelings were just written too overblown. I haven't been through that, fortunately, but I still can't help thinking that therapy would help. If it was IRL-all four of them would need someone to talk to, in my opinion. Her secret was played up so much, and it fell flat, to me. And I figured out the really "bad" part well before the end. The kids were very cute. And, I don't know what kind of schools the author is familiar with, but you know that Clay is not the only one without a mom, and Neeci the only one living with a relative. However, I do like the way they hit it off immediately.
I enjoyed the characters and the flow of the story. I especially enjoyed the fact Ms. Walker was able to write a good solid romance involving an interacial couple without all of the stereo typical racial garbage. It was simply about the attrraction, connection and the LOVE of two people.
I can't wait to read the story Ms. Walker writes for Trey's twin brother Travis.
Trey's wife died six years ago leaving behind a little boy born two months early. Ressa is the hot librarian who finally brings life back to Trey. Ressa has a troubled past and she's afraid he will reject her once he learns of her past. Wonderful read, enjoyed their story as well as peeks into Travis and Sebastion's lives.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Was drawn in from the prologue to the end. Even though I haven't actually read any of this series or the authors books before I believe I will based on this one.
•••••••••
REVIEW: BUSTED is the third installment in Shiloh Walker’s adult, contemporary Barnes Brothers romance series focusing the …who else….the Barnes Brothers. This is author and widower Trey Barnes, and librarian Ressa Bliss’s storyline. Although BUSTED is the third book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.
Told from dual third person perspectives, BUSTED follows the building relationship between Ressa and Trey. It has been several years since Trey’s wife died, and in the ensuing time Trey is all about the guilt whenever he thinks about moving on with his life. As a single dad to Clayton, Trey embarks on reading time at the library with his son, where he will meet librarian Ressa Bliss. For months, Ressa and Trey will dance around one another, with neither one making any movement in a positive direction. When Ressa announces she is moving on, Trey believes he has lost all hope of asking the beautiful librarian out. A chance meeting at an author’s convention finds Ressa and Trey involved in a one-night stand wherein Ressa will walk away leaving a confused Trey in the dark.
The relationship between Ressa and Trey is one of mutual attraction but there are ghosts and demons that haunt our couple: Trey’s guilt over moving forward, and Ressa’s hidden past that could destroy any chance of a permanent relationship with Trey. Ressa’s earlier life was never easy, and to survive Ressa did some things of which she is not proud; if the truth were to become public knowledge, Trey’s life would never be the same. As our couple begin telling their stories, it will become apparent that there is a connection to the past. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive.
The colorful secondary and supporting characters include Trey’s twin brother Travis who keeps hidden the true nature of his job and work. There is a building storyline with Travis when Trey reveals he knows there is more to Travis’s life than what they have been led to believe. The youngest Barnes brother-actor Sebastian –also drops by for a cameo role. We are introduced to Ressa’s Aunt Ang-the woman who raised Ressa; Ressa’s best friend Farrah; as well as Ressa’s troubled cousin Kiara, and five year old Neeci who will become Clayton’s best friend.
BUSTED is an imaginative and inspiring storyline. Although no one can ever put a timeline on grief or guilt, there comes a time when everyone must step out of their comfort zone and give life a second try and in this, Trey is willing to give love a another chance. The characters are animated and engaging; the premise interesting with a bit of a twist. There are moments of heartbreak and sorrow; love and loss; letting go and moving on. Shiloh Walker’s BARNES BROTHERS series is a welcome addition to any romance lover’s collection.

This is the third book in Ms Walker's Barnes Brothers series featuring these passionate siblings and if you are in the mood for a contemporary tale that will tug at your heartstrings then this book will certainly fit the bill.
Yes it's part of a series, but I found it easy to follow and works very well as a standalone although I confess to being intrigued by the remaining brothers . Now, as to the story, it focuses on Trey Barnes, a reclusive author who under tragic circumstances lost his wife leaving him to raise their son alone. Now, hsi son Clayton, is almost ready to start school and fate steps in and puts the curvy librarian Ressa in Trey's path. From the moment he meets Ressa, everything that Trey thought dead wakes up and begs for his attention! Oh yes, there's just something about Ressa that is impossible for Trey to ignore, but Trey's past keeps preventing him from asking her out. Crippled by doubts and guilt Trey watches the woman he burns for just walk away. Ressa is not just a quiet unassuming librarian. No, she's far more than that. Ressa is a woman with a past that she just can't shake off. Having made a new life for herself the only thing that's missing is a man to share it with, but boy is life cruel as a gorgeous hunk of manhood keeps getting dangled in front of her! Ressa knows he's not for her and gets back to what's really important in her life. A chance encounter, a misunderstanding and one night of hot sex and what do you know? Fate is indeed having fun with these two lonely people!
This is a story that kept me guessing as although we get snippets of what's to come a lot of this book and its plot revolves around the past. The relationship that forms between Ressa and Trey is slow to develop as they both hold back. I thought that Trey was more willing to embrace the possibility of something permanent far sooner than Ressa, but she's a woman with secrets and yes her guilt and fear impinges on her present . Trey's traumatic experiences are about to collide with the the sadness that Ressa tries to cope with and it wasn't until near the end of the story that Ms Walker gave us the answers we needed.
This couple is so right together and frankly can hardly keep their hands off each other! Perfectly matched in so many ways and capable of helping each other heal.
This was an enjoyable read with characters to care about. Cuteness abounds with the children featured in this story, but for me it was the mystery hidden within the pages that kept me reading. A passionate story about moving on. I loved the family dynamics as yes, we do get to meet two more gorgeous Barnes brothers. I can't wait to see how Trey's twin Travis gets his happy ending.

I started reading Busted one night after finishing another book. I totally intended to read just a few pages and go to bed. Well an hour or so later I was still awake and still reading. Shiloh Walker has a way of captivating my attention from the first page and not letting go.
Trey Barnes has suffered so much loss and tragedy. The one bright spot in his life is his son, Clay. Clay is quite the little charmer and he add so much to this story. Trey and Clay are really quite the father and son duo. They have a great relationship and Clay is just too adorable. I also love that even though the rest of the Barnes family doesn't live close by they are still a tight knit family and very supportive. I really liked the unique relationship between Trey and his twin Travis.
Ressa Bliss is a librarian that gets to work with books all day! She is also strong, determined, loyal, and a little feisty sometimes. I admired Ressa for taking on the responsibility of raising her little cousin, Neeci. Ressa has been through a lot and has a few things in her past that she has had to overcome.
Trey and Ressa have an instant attraction but their relationship starts off slow. It seems like just when things might go their way something happens and it doesn't work out. When they finally get that chance to spend some time together oh my! Things went from tense to friendly to HOT quickly. They have a lot to work out and a few things to reveal to each other that adds quite a bit of drama to their relationship.
There is also some mystery, quite a bit of drama, and a little suspense that kept me turning pages quickly. The whole story was great. I loved the characters! Trey and Ressa are great together. Did I mention he's an author and she is a librarian? I thought that was cute and added to the storyline. I loved the kids. Both Clay and Necci are adorable and when they get to meet they form a bond quickly. I thought the kids added a nice touch and seriously added to the awe factor.
It was fun to get an inside look at a author convention. I have never been to one but from the descriptions it sounds like it would be a lot of fun for an avid reader like me.
This is part of the Barnes Brother series, however it stands alone just fine. I have not read the first book in the series, but I did read the second. I really enjoyed it as well.
I can't wait to read more about the Barnes Brothers and see who get their story told next. I'm sure it will be awesome. Shiloh Walker always does a wonderful job with storyline and her characters are always well written and feel like friends by the end of the book.
I was given the opportunity to read this great book so that I may share my thoughts with you. As always it has been my great pleasure to share my thoughts with you on Busted.
I have read several books by Ms. Walker and have always liked her emotional stories. The characters go through turmoil and angst and we are with them all the way to their happy ending.
Trey is one of several brothers and a twin to Travis. He lost his wife several years ago when she was hit by a car causing her to go into labor and while delivering their child she died on the operating table. Now Trey is leading a quiet life raising his son Clay.
Ressa works at the local library and meets Trey when he brings Clay in for reading time. They talk sparingly over several months and when she leaves they think that is the end of their friendly relationship. Then they see each other, not once but twice, which rekindles the attraction they both felt, and although their night together is amazing and explosive, they both have obstacles and issues to overcome.
Ms. Walker can write an enjoyable story. Her contemporary romances are warm and filled with heart and I look forward to more with this family of boys who all have interesting experiences before they find that special person.
I knew Trey’s story would be an emotional roller coaster; he has been mourning his wife for years, raising his son but staying by himself most of the time. When he takes Clay to the library, he notices Ressa right away and is intrigued, yet he is unable to move forward and they spend several months just being aware of each other. When they see each other again he is ready and I really enjoyed the two together, their attraction is apparent and the chemistry feels real.
Ressa is extremely likable, she is warm and friendly and I like how she bonds with Trey’s son. She is dealing with guilt and family issues which cause her to push Trey away several times; she believes he will walk away when he finds out about her history. But she obliviously does not know Trey that well, because he only cares about her, not her past. And I liked the little twist at the end.
The pace works well, the first part of the book we are deep into Trey’s emotional journey and we get to watch him emerge into the world again to enjoy Ressa’s company. I also love Clay and Neeci, Ressa’s cousin she is a taking care of, they are both cute and fit into the story nicely. This is the third in the series but can easily be read as a standalone, the author does a great job of keeping the reader informed and I was happy to see two of his brother’s visit and look forward to each of their stories one day, Travis has some secrets and Sebastian is ripe for a takedown. I thoroughly enjoyed this contemporary romance with emotion and heart.
Before I say anything else, can I please get a Hallelujah for that cover?! I love that this is a mainstream book by an author whose stories I love and admire and can be found in the main romance section of a book store. After all romance is read by all sorts of people and should emulate more of its readership than it does now. Yay for diversity!
This series has become my favorite of Shiloh Walker's. There's just something about the way she writes that pulls you in. All it took to capture my attention was the first chapter. I fell so hard for Clay, Trey's son and then with Trey. It's almost impossible not to fall in love with them. It wasn't just the fact that Clay was adorable, but it was how he was aware of not having a mother. That really pulled on my heart strings. Trey was an amazing father. It wasn't easy dealing with his wife's loss, but he made sure to be there for Clay.
I liked Ressa too. She's kind, caring, compassionate, and very hard on herself. She and Trey had me fanning myself. Those two danced around their attraction to one another like professional tango dancers. And when they gave in, it was like being in an inferno. Outside of their chemistry, I can't rave enough about the story. There are so many story arcs going on and I loved having an, "A ha!" moment when things finally clicked. There's mystery, suspense, some action, drama, and emotional moments as well. It's like the complete package.
I loved seeing the other Barnes brothers too. I was so happy to see Zach, Abigale, Keelie, and Zane doing well. I also loved seeing Trey interact with his twin Travis. That man is hiding a whole lot and I can't wait for his book to find out what it is! I'm also equally intrigued by Sebastian Barnes, the youngest brother who is a Hollywood heartthrob. While the story was layered and complex, I felt like not all of the questions that were raised were answered. I'm not sure if there will be another book or story that closes them, but I do hope to see more of Trey, Ressa, and Clay in the future!
My Review: I really wanted to like this book but in the end it just didn't work for me. I didn't like the relationship between Ressa and Trey, I didn't like the way they were when they were together and I certainly didn't like the people they became when they were around one another. Ressa isn't good for Trey and that was upsetting. Although this story is written well its a book I was tempted to throw at the wall because of how frustrated I was.
My Rating: 2 Stars
I received a print copy in exchange for an honest review from Berkley.
The first book was different, it was kind of like an appetizer, the changes started with the second book. A simple story, complications, there were presents but not that twisted. A simple book that got deeper with many untold background, story, history. So this was one, this book was the same. An easy approach. Normal people who happened to have their life upside down, famous indeed but not that kind of too much that living above everyone. But it wasn't the focus in this book. But what I loved from this book were from that easy approach and also that connections and mystery unfold and untold.
The beginning was like a give away! I was praying that it wouldn't be that deceiving. I waited and waited but with no apprehension for the topic to come because I was enjoying the little battle of "I want her" "I want him". Secrets were discovered but the author just didn't stop there. Just gone a little bit deeper and deeper. And bam the connection, and bam what an end!
With this book, it really made me want to read the 2 upcoming books. I wasn't that intrigue with Zach or Zane but Travis and hot Sebastian, they do intrigue me a lot!
