I always do a fair amount of soul-searching on a regular basis in my ongoing quest to be the best me I can be. Sometimes I search more than others. Lately I find myself doing a lot of searching and asking myself is this really what I want for my life? I have to say no. Somewhere along the line, I found myself doing the "safe" thing and I stopped following my dream and that's just sad.

That's where this book comes in, though. Shannon was at a point where I am, and she knows what questions to ask so that I can start thinking about how to go about grabbing my proverbial machete, getting out of the weeds and winding up back on my highway to bliss. I bookmarked and highlighted quite a lot of this book, but this alone is worth the price: "Worrying is nothing more than praying for what you don't want."

I found this book on my mom’s side table and I was like “what is this?”.So out of curiosity I opened it and started reading from it a few pages, and then another few pages and then I saw that I read like 50 pages. After a few days I was at the beach and I was quite bored and I saw that book again and started reading it from where I left off and that’s how I finished it, every time I was bored I’d pick up this book and start reading it 👌

The second time through reading this was a great refresher. I still loved it.

Have you ever felt like there should be more to your life? Maybe that you aren't where you should be and you aren't even close to tapping into your potential? Feeling afraid because of all that? Read this book.

Finally done with this one... and not because it was boring or long. When I picked up this book and made it though the first chapter I had highlighted 10 or more different quotes- so I really let myself take my time to get through this so I could soak it all up. This book came into my hands right when I needed it- like magic! It touched on so many struggles I've been dealing with lately and really broke things down for me when it comes to being able to achieve my goals. So much positive affirmation and soul digging going on here. I'm thankful for the things that I've learned.

There were sooooooo many things that gave me "ah ha!" Moments that I can't even begin to touch on them here. This one, with all my sloppy highlights and book markers, will be staying on my shelf for a long time

More of a 3.75.

I don't know how to review this book. In some ways it did help me in others it didn't. I liked the motivational mantras at the end of each chapter. One thing I was not a fan of was her self promoting in this book, it felt like in every chapter she was promoting more of her books or websites. I couldn't keep up with all of the books she mentioned, so I just gave up.

I think you should read this book but go into it knowing it will help everyone in different ways.

I had read a lot of wonderful reviews on this book prior to purchasing. But I honestly cannot get through the first 50 pages without feeling as if it's a chore to read. I did not finish this book - I gave it two chances and just couldn't get into.

One of the best books I have ever read. Each morning, I woke up excited to sit at my desk, read a chapter, and journal that chapter's 'Awesome Actions'. I feel like I have so much clarity on what it is I want to do with my life. Thank you, Shannon, for writing this book. It truly is a gift!

I had a hard time getting through this book, partly because the author's voice is somehow demotivating even with her being a life coach. I was trying to understand the flow of the book all the way through. I feel I would have connected more with the book if the author would have broken her concepts into more tangible action steps. Saying that we should simply visualize a situation and then "give love and light to the situation" isn't enough to hold onto. I can see this book being a great fit for a few of my friends but it wasn't a hit for me.

It took me almost a year to read this, but that proved to be a pretty great experience of getting through it. Often it seemed the chapter I was reading was perfect for whatever was going on in my life. Yes, this is totally the kind of book that narrates optimism on steroids and required me to ignore some of the commentary within, but I enjoyed most of the messages overall. It's good to be good to yourself, especially because it makes it easier to be good to others.

And how could I forget the journaling? As a writer, of course I loved having the exercises and reflections.

Wow this took me 5 months to finish. That should say something right there.

I enjoyed a lot of this book and thought this exercises at the end of each chapter could be quite helpful. I just didn't relate to a lot of the stories she told about herself and others. Which is fine! It just makes it hard to really soak in the message when you're wondering, "Wait what situations in my life can I apply this to?"

Overall, a really great book for someone who is struggling to finally find their path or who is terrified to take that path.

While this book is saturated with self-help jargon and buzzwords, if you can get past it, there is wisdom to be found. There are specific exercises to help you understand yourself a little more, identify things that might be holding you back, and help you achieve your goals, going forward. The concept of could vs. should really expressed an idea I've been working with for the past few years, and I'm glad to now have a clear structure for it.

I usually like books like this but this was not for me. I found it kind of depressing. I picked only 3 books to take on vacation from the giant pile on my nightstand and this was one of the lucky three. I was disappointed that this was one I picked to read during my limited reading time. I actually left it behind.

This book is amazing! I read this off of a recommendation of Marissa Lace on Youtube for #YearofYou and it is incredible. Everything Kaiser talks about is incredibly easy to follow and just makes completele sense. LOVE

This took me forever to get through, and for a while I just couldn’t figure out why. This book has been on my list for a number of years and I finally pulled it off my shelf in a time of desperation(?).
It wasn’t until the end that I finally put my finger on why this book was falling flat for me: privilege, privilege, privilege.
This is strictly a book for those who are financially successful, but not mentally, emotionally, or spiritually successful. It does not acknowledge the struggling person who is both on the brink of poverty and also miserable, just rich/financially comfortable and miserable. Yawn.
“By examining our illusions we can take a step back and see that the things we worry about the most are actually not anything to put extra energy into. Illusions separate us from love and keep us stuck in fear. The things we worry most about are illusions” (pg. 249). Uh, yikes. Now in the right circumstances, this could be a very inspiring idea, but for those who literally fear their children being taken from them, who fear where their next meal is going to come from, who fear how they’re going to make rent by the end of the month, who fear going bankrupt from visiting a doctor for an ache that won’t go away, this is profoundly ignorant. Most of us out here don’t worry about losing our biggest client when trying to decide whether or not to move to Hawaii. Ha! I wish that was my biggest worry!
Perhaps I can revisit this book once I pay off my school loans, finally move out of my mom’s house, and maybe get a job that pays more than $20k per year, but for now, what a waste of reading time.

Hidden Gems:

The weight of my body was a manifestation of an imbalance in my thoughts. Again the fears of not being worthy, not feeling worthy of love, kept me feeling unhealthy or unapproachable.

In order to become truly comfortable and never allow ourselves to settle into an uncomfortable state, we have to be honest with ourselves and face head-on our fat bodies, our low bank accounts, our toxic relationships, our unfulfilling jobs - and in spite of this, love ourselves.

We have to let go of who we think we should be in order to be who we really want to be.

By holding on to what no longer served me I was preventing my own happiness, not accessing my full potential, and missing out on my life's true work.

Breakups, divorces, layoffs, or job changes are difficult, but can be the universe's way of giving us an opportunity for bigger and better things.

All change is the removal of situations, people, habits, and things that no longer serve you. Recognize that each change is happening FOR you, not to you.

The person who is afraid of intimacy and loss of freedom will spend a lot of time alone. They feel they are better off alone because they can do what they want, when they want, without being criticized or judged.

It is necessary to honour the dance of letting go and trust the manifesting process.

This is a feel-good, hold-your-hand kind of book. I mean that rather literally as it outlines 21 steps to let go of limiting beliefs, find what makes you happy, and pursue it. Each chapter starts with the why, background info, and personal anecdotes and then goes into the 'joy route'...steps and activities that you can engage in to put the chapter's lesson to work in your life. There are LOTS of journaling prompts to get you thinking about everything.

That being said, this is probably a book you should take your time to read. Really spend some time thinking about the tips and utilizing all of the journaling prompts. If you've never done anything like this before, it can be really enlightening.

For me, however, I sort of breezed through things because I've read a lot in this realm of topics and the prompts weren't super new to me. If this isn't your first rodeo, you may feel the same way, but there are definitely plenty of little tidbits worth highlighting and jogging your memory.

This is a well written book with lots to think about. The only reason I gave it 3 stars (which is still considered liking it), is because it wasn't groundbreaking. Again, this comes from having read and done lots in this same area, but it's great if it's your first or even third book on the topic!

My favorite motivational mantra: "I can change the fate of my future. Settling is the way of my past. I do not settle."

On page 46, Kaiser exclaims, "Imagine never having to overthink anything ever again! What would you do with all your time if you trusted that things would work out?" I believe I would have a lot more time on my hands, time enjoying life and relaxing.

Later in the reading, page 252, she puts this equation together:
Surrender = 100 percent acceptance of what is + Faith that all is in the right order

Kaiser also talked about putting our own needs first, stating "self-love is not selfish". I talk all the time about how I want to better myself in one way or another, like working out and eating healthier...possibly a nice spa day. Like she says, "Enough excuses, I want results."

Her metaphor for turbulence is excellent! You want to know about it? Read it, page 84. :)

We all have fears. Spiders...stink bugs...well this list could go on. But that's not what I'm talking about here. Take a look at Kaiser's "Top Ten Fears Holding Us Back" and see how much you can relate. I believe we can all relate to at least a few of these fears. Start on page 164 and learn about each of them individually.

Designate No Worry Time, page 253.

I need to watch Kelly McGonigal's TED talk, because her findings on stress are astonishing (page 276-277)! So if you are reading this, right now, please be careful when it comes to stress and how you perceive it.

The above points are what jumped out to me. Overall Adventures for Your Soul was great!

I thought this book was going to be more about strategies to change your physical habits, which I guess it is when you boil it down because most physical habits stem from a mental habit you are doing, but I guess I just didn’t quite understand that the whole book was mostly about mental habits and rethinking your views on the world. Not saying that is a bad thing, in fact I have recommended it to a few people that I think would really benefit from a few key chapters in this book, but I didn’t really connect with it as much as I wanted to. There was certainly some good advice and I liked some of the the exercises, but I don’t really connect with the “the universe is telling you xyz” line of thinking. Again, nothing wrong with it, but it doesn’t really hit home for me. I also thought it could have been shorter, as some of the later chapter started feeling a little repetitive.

Just like the characters of a movie, you are a character in the show called “Life.” Are you in a starring role? Or are you a supporting actor?

Shannon Kaiser, Adventures for Your Soul Deluxe: 21 Ways to Transform Your Habits and Reach Your Full Potential

I always love self help books with the homework at the end of each chapter. Putting things down on paper is just like telling a friend. It puts it out there instead of just saying it in your head and never doing anything with it. On paper makes it real, recognizable to the problems at hand or the worries in our head. Every chapter also gives you a motivational mantra, I loved these. Took each one with me throughout the day.

Each chapter is a habit, a joy route, a take action followed by the mantra. 💜💜💜

If you're willing to do a little bit of homework, this is a great book.

Shannon kaiser - My first and probably the last mentor

Thank you Shannon for writing this book. Truly an inspiring journey And don't whaybut from the 1st chapter each an ever thing seems like my life. The sadness, happiness, love, discouragement, inspirations everything seems to be written for me only. Thank you for giving this true treasure of your life. Otherwise I would never understand whether I'm going on right path or not. But, now I know everything in my life is happening for a reason and as I said this book is me so from now own I know how to be more fulfilling and present in my life.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I love you Shannon Thank you for this love☺😘

If you’ve read more than 4 or 5 self help books, then this book probably won’t wow you.
I think the human centred story of the author is very admirable, and I find it encouraging and uplifting to read how much she has changed her life’s.

There are parts of this book which i found quite inspiring and noteworthy. However, I’ve read a lot of self help/ positivity books in the last few years, and there wasn’t really anything new to me in this book.

I found that I got really bored by the final chapters, and had to will myself to finish the book.

It’s nice and uplifting to read, but I’ve just read a lot of very similar stories!

This book just wasn’t for me. I’m not a fan of the work book layout I prefer to just read and reflect on my own rather than being prompted to write things out. So I don’t think I got the full intention of this book. It also seemed like there was a lot of self promotion going on. I read a lot of self help books recently so maybe my expectations were just higher but if you have a dream and need guidance to achieving it then I would recommend this book I just didn’t find it helpful at this point in my life.

DNF @ 14%

I wanted to like this, but I could barely get past the first chapter. It's super repetitive: I had to check to make sure I was actually moving forward in the Kindle edition, because I really felt like I was reading the same idea over and over, just written slightly differently.

I also think I can safely say this just not really my cup of tea. I genuinely like personal development books, but I like ones that are a bit more actionable. This one was too focused on visualization and manifesting your dreams and whatnot for my taste.

While there are a lot of great takeaways from this book, it felt like a lot of rambling to add page count. I would’ve appreciated it more if it was concise. After page 80, it’s pretty much the same examples and experiences used as reference in each chapter. Just too repetitive. I also felt like there was a lot of promotion of her other materials, which is awesome for her but tiresome as a reader. Not every chapter should be a promo for your other books, blog, or audiobook. My favorite part was the mantras. Those were very well-written and great affirmations.

Eye opening

Shannon is the real deal.
She took my hand and guided me through her joy, helping me to begin finding my own. Like many others my life has been plagued with anxiety and depression. The journaling brought me up to speed with what really brings me joy and sparks happiness in my soul. If you need encouragement this book is a perfect start. I constantly refer to my journaling and repeat her mantras daily. Thank you for baring your soul to help humanity.

3.5 stars It took my second try to get through this book. Maybe I was not at a place the first time where I was able to accept what she was saying. The second time around I enjoyed the layout of the book. Fallacy, story, how to change, exercise, mantra. Though I do not relate to all her examples. The exercises helped me work on ny own life. There are a few good practices in this book I will take with me

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 ~ Very good.

This was a really fun and inspiring book that will definitely help you to change your habits and break old ones. The joy routes were really helpful as the processes were broken down into smaller steps, making things more manageable and less intimidating instead of trying to do it all at once!

I enjoyed hearing about the authors journey and her stories throughout the book. She was very honest about her own experiences and came across very judgement free. Being truthful about her own habits and how she broke them really helps you to see that it can be done if you give habit breaking a go!

It did take me a while to finish and was a little repetitive at times, but I didn’t mind too much at all. The advice was very worth it!

I almost DNF several times starting with the author saying she visited with John of God who was a leader of a cult. Seemed pretty repetitive and a lot of self promoting her books, website, coaching, etc. Some parts can be helpful to some but some people cannot just quit their job that they hate to go work their dream job/live their dream life because bills and kids.
