First Off the Mark

This is a high interest, low level readability magazine with several articles, an expert interview, a story, a poem, a graphic organizer, strategy focus on asking questions, a project, and a glossary This magazine format is appropriate for on-level 3-5th graders or below level 6-8th graders. The theme is "First Off the Mark." It's about athletic records that have been set and broken, how famous inventions came about (potato chips, Post-It notes, Liquid paper, etc.), balancing athletics with life, the pressure to succeed in athletics, etc. I'm including the paper Teacher's Guide, with Before, During, and After suggestions for each article or story, black-line masters to be copied, etc. I only have one Teacher's Guide, so it will go to the first purchaser. This is an important topic for many middle schoolers and very timely with the Olympics coming up!
