Little Lunar is on the verge of greatness. A rising rapper with the world at his feet, he’s chasing more than just fame though- he’s searching for himself. Every song, every verse is an attempt to piece together the man he’s supposed to be, but no matter how hard he tries, something is missing. His father, the legend he never got to meet, is a ghost haunting his success. Lunar has the talent, the attitude, and the bad-boy persona that keeps his name buzzing, but deep down, he’s just a boy looking for a man.
Ahvi doesn’t have time for dreams. She’s a single mother trying to keep her son fed while her baby daddy is out in the streets, bringing home more problems than solutions. She was her father’s daughter—raised by a hardworking man who always made a way—but now he’s gone, and she’s left to fight a world that won’t stop taking from her.
When she finds an old phone buried in her daddy’s things, she has no idea it once belonged to Big Lunar, the father of the same rapper she hears all over the radio. Desperate for cash, she hits up Little Lunar, offering to sell him the one thing that might bring him closer to the man he never knew.
Their worlds collide so chaotically, it makes them question everything. Every little kismet shift in their world feels so divine— like something or someone was moving them on a board like chess pieces.
They weren’t supposed to meet. They weren’t supposed to need each other. But sometimes, the pieces we’re missing, find us in the most unexpected ways and leave us Standing In The Sun.
Standing in the Sun is an urban romance about love and finding yourself in the shadows of the past.
I love when a man can show emotions. Little Lunar was a hopeless romantic. Being surrounded by love all his life, he was ready to give the love he saw around him. God works in mysterious ways because when he felt himself drowning, God gave him purpose. His Sun.
Ahvi was a hustler but a mother first. She had to always stand strong. Never show tears. Never show weakness. But when her back is against the wall, will she fall or be caught?
When I say this made me feel. It made me FEEL. It pulled different emotions out of me because I resonated with the MMC and FMC so much. Grief never goes away; it just changes.
I literally love this family. They stand ten toes behind one another and always have each other’s backs.
I can’t wait for Aku story because she is so wild, and I want to see how she is going to be tamed.
SN- Now, Evelyn, I’m going to need you to make something shake for Pimp. My boy deserves it. Maybe a novella 👀.
4.5 ⭐️ Lil Lunar’s story tore me uppppp 🥺 I went into this book already knowing I probably was going to shed a few tears. And that I did! 😩😩😩 I love this dang family so much 🥰
I’m so glad Evelyn gave us glimpses of Big Lunar all throughout this book. It was bittersweet.
Just when I thought I couldn’t love this family more, Evelyn said “bet” and took things up another notch with Standing in the Sun. I loved this story real bad. It was healing, the rediscovery of self, restoring and making new memories, and learning to accept love in all its forms. This book is for the lovers - for those who struggled with accepting a hand up, those who grieved in silence, and felt like a part of their heart was missing - there’s a sun shining through the dark clouds. There’s so many lessons intertwined into this book but my favorite was, “life don’t get no easier, but you get smarter. You get tougher. You learn what’s worth fightin’ for and what ain’t. And from what I done seen? You got somethin’ worth fightin’ for. So quit overthinking and take the next damn step.”
Lunar was Big Lunar in “human form” but he didn’t know him - all the stories he’d heard about his father were on the account of others that had been blessed by his presence. Lunar fought to show that his privilege wasn’t the reason for his success. Lunar was talented, a visionary, storyteller, and lover boy at heart. But he was the perfect example of someone living with functional depression. Throughout the story, Lunar questioned why he didn’t get to experience his father. Through his healing, Lunar discovered that Ahvi and Kamari were direct blessings from Big Lunar and Sky Daddy.🥺
Ahvi was a mother first; she grinded and took risks to take care of her son, Kamari. The universe dropped the perfect gift in Ahvi’s lap. The gift that kept on giving and subsequently changed her life. I appreciated Ahvi’s story because she represented so many young mothers. She was also grieving her father who was a huge part of her life. I wouldn’t say the two bonded over the deaths of their fathers, because their story was more than that - it was destiny. Also, Kamari stole my heart; I wholeheartedly feel he was Lunar and Ahvi’s angel on earth.
I think behind To The Moon, Standing in The Sun is my second favorite in the series. I love a story that pulls a good cry out of me and I had so many tearful moments, it was beautiful. Lunar, Kamari, and Ahvi have a special place in my reader heart. SN, if I ever see Sheena and Dro in these fictional reader streets, it’s on site. 🤭
Somebody call the police, because I was totally in love with Little Lunar. Never mind I could have birthed him 🥴 and done watched him grow up in this series. He was such a lover boy, he wore his heart on his sleeve, and desired to GIVE love. Despite him being young and a little wild I saw the man he desired to be and eventually became, and HE was everything.
Little Lunar was depressed. The grief of not knowing his father and the weight of trying to live up to his memory was so heavy. He was floundering and lashing out. His mother sent him away and unknowingly put him near his future.
Ahvi was drowning. She was being evicted, she had a deadbeat baby daddy, her mother was selfish af and and she was struggling with the loss of her father. Ahvi was doing her best to survive not only for herself but for baby Kamari. She was hustling, but it seems like she could never get ahead.
She runs across something that connects her to Little Lunar and will possibly allow her to breathe. Chile from there ish hits the fan and Lunar steps up in a way that's almost unrealistic. I was glad he found a way to channel all those big emotions he could not seem to manage. Stepping up the way he did gave me Big Maverick vibes, his Pops. Even though Ahvi was hesitant, she couldn't fight the connection she had with Lunar. He was so consistent and I loved that for them. She was the sun to his moon.
Okay let me quit rambling, I loved this story and it had so much potential to be a 5 star, but Ms. Evelyn needs an editor. This book was edited better than the last but that doesn't change the need🥴 It impacts the story when timelines are off and the storylines don't reach their full potential. The jump from selling plates out her trunk to a huge restaurant is crazy; again why editing is important. I realize that she left some things open for other books, but to just let the characters fall off the page is wild. Additionally, these books are in the future and nothing about the world they are in says it is. Give us some futuristic elements, AI, something that says it's 2035. Lastly, their love was big and beautiful and I needed that sentiment to be carried through until the very end. The ending was lackluster for all that build up.
SN: I can't wait for Pimp and Devonte's story, and of course Monday and Butta's. Will my girl Aku find her big love? Uugh so many things I need to know.
Read this at home in private or something if you wanna keep ya dignity in tact. EVELYN GON HAVE YOU CRYING Latrice YOU DID YOUR BIGGEST ONE. You keep doing it too like I thought French was the one that’s my man down but yeah Little Lunar is so special my goodness. I do wish we got to see what Tiny and Mav said to Monday or saw more parenting on Tiny’s part cus she was acting REALLY STRANGE. Like you so worried about that GROWN man but not the teenager?? Yeah girl she needed a lil slap. My only complaint is why does it seem like they so against therapy, like love is powerful, healing and renewing but it’s nothing wrong with laying across that couch and getting the help you need. Some stuff is out of your family’s wheel house and sometimes you need a professional. Overall if I could give this 10 stars I would one of my 2025 favorites.
Let me just say, Evelyn be turning me every which way and I be in my damn feelings. Even though it's still Bu for me Little Lunar was still on his shit and I loved every minute of it. I just knew that Apple was gonna bring her apple head back around and Dro was a loser. Ahvi was pissing me off the way that she kept playing in little lunar face and I was ready to throw hands with her. Evelyn has really made me fall in love with this world.
Omg, Little Lunar broke me! However, in no way was this book not going to get my 5 star rating! I've binged this series for almost a week, and aside from To The Moon, where it began, this was the best for me. Little Lunar has heard for 20+ years what kind of man that his father he never met was. How he made their legacy possible. That Luna, Javen, Tiny, Solo, French, and Qamar wouldn't be able to have the lifestyles they live and for their children to afford their dreams without the vision that Big Lunar had. Little Lunar has heard the stories, but wants to know the man that missed his life. Knowing it's impossible, this talented young black man is drowning in grief, acting impulsively, and is lost. Let me tell you, the more his heart breaks, the more yours does too. I can't tell you how many times I had to clean my glasses. Tiny, Little Lunar's mom basically puts his grown self on punishment for him to get himself together. Jade City was an unexpected blessing for him. Not only does he get a glimpse of Lunar - the man, the myth, the legend, but his big heart is filled to capacity when he meets Ahvi and KamarI.
Ahvi is a woman who knows struggle and is trying her best to keep herself from drowning while caring for her son. She's never been soft because she was raised by a man and taught to be a man...in a sense. Ish was hard on her, but it gave her strength and determination. She's also dealing with a man that provides little for her son and a mama who was never really who and what she was supposed to be. When she finds something that belongs to Big Lunar amongst her dad's belongings she sees a chance to get above water. However, her life is 3steps forward and ten back. Little Lunar steps up for Ahvi in a way no one has ever done. Not only does he and his tribe take care of her son when she can't, but they embrace her like they've known her forever. Ahvi...sweet, broken girl is constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop while she falls for a man she feels is out of her league and her son has embraced that same man in ways she can't comprehend.
Ahvi and Little Lunar were both broken, but their story is one of mutual healing that leaves you with an array of tears for so many reasons. Hell, I'm sniffing try to finish this review. I'm just glad they were able to stand in the sun together. That ending seriously had my husband looking at me sideways because I was on the verge of full on sobbing! S/N, I really love Aku - she seriously is her mama's daughter. I also hope that Prime has finally found someone to love him out loud.
Ok,ok I know this was a long review so I'll finish with this. I can't wait for whomever is coming in June/July, and y'all definitely need to start this series ASAP!!! Happy Reading Y'all!💋
✨️Update✨️ Went and purchased Woke Up On Mars off Ms. Latrice's website which gives us a full glimpse into Solar and French from beginning to pass the bomb Qamar dropped in his book and I was a blubbering mess!!
OK, so I’m not shocked at how well written the story is because if you follow this family from the beginning, you would know the writing is superb. I mean the only thing I didn’t realize was that I would start crying literally before chapter even got halfway through and I have not stopped crying until the final page. I don’t know what it is about Evelyn’s writing capabilities, but this woman knows how to embody the scene and emotions. My heart broke so hard for little Lunar because all he wanted to do was connect with his Dad irl. I mean he had to grow up hearing stories of this grand personality that everyone had so much respect for that he never got to see and it has weighed on his mind and heart so hard. Like on one hand you are fighting the belief that you shouldn’t be sad since you were blessed with the best kid of stepdad in Maverick but at the same time, you literally embody this amazing spirit that you are drawn too but can’t communicate with in the natural. Then you have Alvi who can’t catch a brake to save her life. You can tell that she’s operating from a place of survival and because she wasn’t given the tools or examples to how life can be if you are allowed to dream. For this reason she chooses to operate and stay in that survival mindset. This is where the clash between Lunar and Alvi comes from because he’s trying to show her a love that he embodies and she is skeptical about fully trusting him, and what that other side of life can look like in reality for her. As always, I love to see this family together I always root for them. I love how all the men in this series are not afraid to show emotions (something I’m sure Big Lunar taught them). There’s never a book that has them in it that I don’t end up crying while reading it, but I also laugh just as hard because his family is hilarious. This story did not disappoint at all and I am definitely looking forward to Aku’s story. I also hope that we get an update on Monday and Butta as well.
Evelyn, Evelyn, Evelyn you never cease to surprise me. This book was so good. Lunar and Ahvi's love story unfolded so beautifully. The connection between the two, the love for her baby, and fulfilling her desires was CHEF'S KISS. Although there were times I wanted to jump through the screen and shake some sense into Ahvi, I devoured their story. Each book is so good, so easy to get lost in their world. I highly recommend this book, as well as this series, to any and everyone. Crossing my fingers we get more from Pimp in the future.
My goodness this was so beautiful! I'm crying real tears wishing I got to meet and know Big Lunar but also feeling like I do know him through his legacy. I wasn't prepared to feel all these big feelings. I really love this family and really want to follow along with Aku and Butta's future endeavors. (Also, Monday) Little Lumar may be my favorite character them all.
The barrage of emotions within this book. The tears that I shed. Just let him love you. Baby, this series is simply beautiful. Evelyn Latrice take a bow. Y'all just read the damn book.
My favorite out of this series. Lunar was perfect honestly. I enjoyed reading his relationship with Ahvi. I loved that both were so flawed but ultimately perfect for one another. The banter was top notch and the spice was right. Overall a good story of finding love despite whatever ghosts are lingering.
Lil Lunar and Ahvi, Love Melodies Playing in Your Heart
I thought the 1st book in this series was best and along comes Lil Lunar’s story to have me crying, cheering and praying for him and Ahvi!!!… The dynamics of these 2 was so genuine and heartbreaking at the same time!!!… Although Ahvi had a man in her life, she said many times, he taught her how to be a man when she needed to know what it was like to be a woman and accepting a man and his help!!!… Tiny is definitely a character you can empathize with, but that woman to woman talk Stephanie had with Ahvi, hit the nail dead on head with no scratches!!!…Babyyyyy, boy mom’s are so different and they don’t try to be, they just wanna protect their sons, but forget women need protection too!!!… I love me some Aku, & I was soooo excited for Pimp and glad he was with someone that was proud to be outside with him!!!… Solar is definitely my go to book bestie, because she knows those struggles, even when you have all the help in the world, she know that love that you are trying to pour into a man that I will be his strength!!!… Kamari was the icing on the cake and I’m so happy that Lil Lunar seen the blessing in having met such a sweet baby!!!…I was also very happy that Lil Lunar was able to have some glimpses of the man, the legend, forever 17 young man that help create him!!!…Tiny got some closure and I cried with her, because although you move on, you feel stuck in a moment of pain and silence!!!… The closer I get to the end of this series, the more I know I’m going to take another cruise around the moon and to the stars with this family and friends!!!…
Evelyn girl, you’ve done it AGAIN! 😭 My heart can’t take it!! I cried so much! I absolutely LOVED little Lunar. I thought I loved the siblings before, but he his SUN has a special place in my heart. I understood his strife so deeply… carrying the weight of a man he’s never met, feeling the pressure to live up to a legacy he didn’t know how to fulfill when all along, he was Big Lunar’s wildest dream. The legacy was already alive in him.
I adored how everyone showed up for him, but honestly, I expected nothing less from this family. They are my favorite fictional family of all time! 💕
And Ahvi 🥹 my girl! Learning how to be soft and let someone in after having to grind it out alone your whole life… I felt that. Wanting to believe in something so badly, but still waiting for the shoe to drop. In the end, I’m so glad she stood in the sun and finally got to bask in the life she deserved.
Now let’s talk Aku… I cannot WAIT for her story! My girl has been wanting a love like her parents for so long, and I’m so ready to see her finally be loved the way she’s been longing for.
Evelyn, you really outdid yourself with this one. 💫 I’m still screaming TO THE MOON 🌙
Little Lunar is all grown up, but the grief of never knowing his father Big Lunar, the man who planted the seeds of their wildest dreams, still weighs heavily on him. Spiraling under the weight of unhealed loss, his mother sends him back to the place where it all began, hoping he can find clarity and peace.
Enter Ahvi, a single mother to Kamari, carrying the world on her shoulders and living in survival mode. When she comes across a phone that once belonged to Big Lunar, a chance meeting brings her and Little Lunar together. What starts as a simple exchange slowly becomes something much deeper. As Ahvi struggles to survive, Little Lunar steps up for her in ways she never expected.
But while Ahvi believes Little Lunar is saving her, it’s really Ahvi and Kamari who are saving him.
Raised in love but haunted by grief, and raised in survival but longing for softness, their connection is tender, complicated, and deeply human. This story is filled with emotion, vulnerability, and the quiet power of found family. A beautifully written reminder that love can heal even the most unspoken wounds. Definitely a great read—raw, heartfelt, and unforgettable. 💛
Evelyn has the gift, the juice, and the vision to just pull readers in and give you that nostalgic feeling that reminds you of the very first book you’ve ever read that catapulted your love for reading. She’s just that talented!
If you have a deceased parent that died before you got to meet them or even just an absent parent, you’ll grieve with Little Lunar. Women that were forced to be independent and guarded will also relate to Ahvi. I LOVE that she didn’t make Ahvi into one of “those” characters that always finds a way to self sabotage and get themselves into stupid situations that don’t make sense. Ahvi’s growth into her “soft era” was understandable. Submission isn’t just a snap decision for some women. Some women need to be shown through action that a man is worthy and honorable enough to be submissive to.
Loved the updates on the characters from previous books and I’m happy Evelyn is continuing the series. I normally don’t comment on editing because mistakes will happen and sometimes readers don’t even notice until the editing police leave a review BUT in this case readers will notice. It needed just one more review.
The 8th Wonder series has been really great! We pick up with the Mooney family as Little Lunar is wildin’ out a la King Harris. Except, Mama Tiny don’t play that and she sends her grown son home until he can act right.
Meanwhile, if something can go wrong in Ahvi’s life, it’s going to go wrong: her baby daddy is useless, she’s being evicted, and she can’t afford food and necessities for her child. Until she finds Big Lunar’s phone in her father’s remains. She hopes to sell the phone to fund a new place and her neighborhood catering business. Well. She got a lot more than a new place to stay. And, with the phone and guidance of his family, Little Lunar gets some act right.
It’s a great read—if not a bit overdramatic at times. And, I’m a sucker for a good “your baby daddy ain’t shit so I’ll be your baby’s new daddy” story.
As an aside—at this point, the author is trolling us with the editing. “He led her to the coach”? The random commas, missing quotations at the end of dialogue…ma’am! This is the only reason I haven’t purchased physical copies of this series. Ms. Evelyn, I will go back and edit your past works for free. Help me help you! 😩
They say that every trope or story line has been done in the Romance genre, and transparently it’s the thing I love the most about reading romance. You know what you are going to get (for the most part) but this story although formulaic in the same ways was an emotional rollercoaster that I loved every moment of. It made me smile and blush, it had me crying, silent tears in the middle of the night while I read and watched my own son sleep. It was the very definition of tapping into the human condition, messy, raw, beautiful and imperfect. I read the first book in this series and skipped to this one because just like Little Lunar, Evelyn Latrice, made me fall in love with a character I never knew and I HAD to read the story of his own son’s love. It did not disappoint, in fact I’m pretty sure I’m about to go into a book hangover and just re read my favorite quotes.
If you are a lover boy or girl, and want need to feel it, see it, hear it in your books, pick this one up, now.
Standing in the Sun is everything. How can you appreciate the sun when it seems like everything around you is getting darker? Lunar’s father was taken from him before he was born and he is struggling. How do you miss someone you’ve never met? How did everyone get to experience your father, yet you have to live through their stories not knowing what he even sounded like. Meanwhile, Ahvi is trying to survive because that’s all she was taught to do. All that is left to do is to let down the walls to allow real love and peace enter. As Lunar wears his heart on his sleeve, willing to give the whole world to Ahvi so that she can shine on her own and not live in his shadow, yet Ahvi is waiting for the worst to happen. A Lunar Eclipse occurs as this love begins to unfold.
I just love this series and how they are pouring into each other, now that I’ve lost a parent I constantly wondering if they are proud off me . And I’m grateful I got to spend some time with my mom before she gained her wings. I love how even though ahvi was scared of letting love in, I completely understand that thought process. It’s so hard to let someone heal you or save you when you’re in that constant go mode. I love that pimp got to be apart of those that finally found love out loud. But is that going to last? Such a great read I love how in the end we found out karmari name meant moonlight ! The connection with the names is so cute to me ! I love a good theme! You did that sis! Now let me get my tissue for the next book because I know ima cry in that one too lmao

Wellllll, after Noodle, we finally got back on track. This was back on top and we finally have everyone speak about Big Lunar, specifically Tiny. Man, Mav is sooooo good 👍 while unfortunately I didn’t really like Ahvi. She was so boring and so out of touch for someone like Lunar, but the fact that she had Kamari who was Lunar’s kryptonite, Ahvi had to come along. I hated the little bit of Monday and Butta because me I want always the HEA, so I didn’t like their little 5-10paragraphs minus how Butta schooled Ahvi… So now that we got back on track, let me see what Ali is talking about. This was good MS. Latrice…. Not bad at all
Love reading about this family. Lunar was such a lover and wasn’t afraid to show it. Big Lunar played such an important part in the lives of his family and to see his son get the closer he needed in never knowing his father was beautiful. His love for Kamari was so sweet. The way they bonded was the cutest thing. I really liked Ahvi, her life wasn’t easy but she’s a strong woman. I’m glad she allowed Lunar to love her and let go of her fear to love him back.
Evelyn Latrice did her bi one with this standalone connected series. I’m excited to read Aku’s story, she is hilarious and just looking for love in the wrong places.
When it comes to Evelyn Latrice, I’m guaranteed to share a tear or two… Or three. Little Lunar ain’t so little anymore and he’s searching for crumbs of someone who isn’t here anymore. That is until he meets Ahvi. Pretty Ahvi, with more baggage than she can carry. She and her 6 month old Kamari come along and rock Lunar’s world. The grief, the love, and the healing it took for these two to become, was so emotional yet beautiful to witness. I truly enjoyed every moment of this. Evelyn could do no wrong in my eyes!
Has any one checked on Evelyn Latrice lately? The way she be putting her foot, knees and elbows in these books, I’m sure she is somewhere laid out 🤣💓 lmao but seriously, I’ve been rocking with the Moony’s since the beginning and you can’t tell me these not my cousins, I love this family down and it truly speaks to Mrs, Evelyn’s pen game the way she writes these books so well that it truly is an immersive experience.
Wow if I could give this book 10 stars I would, this is one of the best books I’ve read this year, from beginning to end it captivated my heart, my husband wondering why I’m crying while reading. This book is a must read, this is my first time reading this author’s work and I’m kind of mad I never read the previous books in the series! No I feel like I’m reading backwards, I can’t wait for what’s next, I hope it’s Monday and Butta story next.
Now let me say I love the whole series and I can't wait for the next one. This right here Ms. Evelyn Latrice you pulled out so many emotions it was crazy. This family is the epitome of love. All families should have this type of love. Little Lunar is THE man. His heart is just so big. This was definitely a can't put down read. Ahvia was really a sweetheart just trying to get by the best way she knew how. All girls need a mother figure to teach them to be soft and let a man lead. It's ok. That Kamari is just the cutest. Thank you for this
Little Lunar is pressure! He was raised right and his family doesnt play bout him. I love how whenever someone from their orbit is in need the family rallies. The way Ahvi and Lunar met is wild as hell for sure. Stepping up and taking care of a child whose mom you don’t know is jaw dropping but it was what he needed to be grounded and grow. Ahvi fought the soft life and being led but it glad Lunar put it all on the table and gave Ahvi time to come to him. Monday and Butta was an interesting twist in the story lol hopefully they figure out their stuff and make it.

ARC Review: This right here! As always Evelyn Latrice gives us lessons throughout as a beautiful story unfolds. We have watched these characters grow to adults, fight through life struggles and come out on top. Lunar was chasing the ghost of the past while feeling empty, and Ahvi didn’t know what love was, she didn’t understand the meaning of help. This story took us through the meaning of chasing a ghost in the darkness and finding love in the 🌞.
