- Audrey
New to Leslie? Readers suggest starting with 'The Bossy One' (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C6BP3BBF) —Imagine a sunny Minnesotan Mary Poppins, employed by a grumpy Irish billionaire. The story is a blend of humor, revenge, passion, heartbreak, hope, and witty banter. As one reader put it, ‘This story had me squealing at the romantic moments and silly moments.’
Leslie North is the USA Today Bestselling pseudonym for a critically-acclaimed author of romantic comedies and contemporary romance. The anonymity allows her to fully express her creativity, especially in the romantic and fun sexy scenes!
In fact, she confesses to loving her fictional persona, Leslie North, more than her everyday self! Her bestselling books are known for their strong characters, particularly women who aren’t afraid to challenge an alpha bosshole. And the humor? So infectious, you’ll be laughing out loud in public!
Leslie’s love for romance began when she picked up a worn-out romance book from her local library. She started writing soon after, and as they say, the rest was history. She now resides in a cozy cottage on the British coast, enjoying long walks with her two Dalmatians, George and Fergie.
She LOVES reader feedback, and if you have any comments, don’t hesitate to contact her!
This was a nice little second chance delight and while it's not perfect... I still enjoyed it.
𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨: Cora Newport is a masked bartender who’s pretty famous on social media. One day she is competing in a cocktail competition when she runs into the owner of an alcohol company who wants her help developing a new line of mocktails that his company is about to launch. The only problem is that this owner also happens to be her high school ex-boyfriend Aiden Callihan, who broke her heart years ago without giving her any explanation AND HE DOES NOT EVEN RECOGNISE HER IN HER MASK!(The Audacity). Aiden's basically the last person on earth she wants to work with, but his company’s offer is too good to refuse, so she agrees to partner up… and soon, their old high school feelings start resurfacing. The two need to navigate their past, figure out what went wrong, and see if there’s a future for them.
𝙏𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨: I enjoyed this one a bit more than Perfect Mismatch, because I liked Aiden way more than Vincent. He wasn't as rude or dickish. He genuinely cares about his friends, company, and work, and he cares about Cora too. Since the series is called “Manhattan Boss Holes,” I expected him to be more of a jerk, but he wasn’t. Like Aiden's biggest red flag was that he’s scared of his temper and how others might see that.
Cora was pretty feisty and spunky. She knows what she wants, and she has the kind of personality that draws everyone in, making them want to know her, which makes sense for a social media personality. I love that she challenged Aiden and their chemistry was believable!
There are definitely similarities between this and Perfect Mismatch and its funny as they are commented on in the book as going through the same flow... which was awesome but also a little confusing in direction as I felt I had already seen this plot and story before.
𝙏𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙨 and 𝙈𝙞𝙘𝙧𝙤 𝙏𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙨:: ▶ Billionaire Romance ▶ Second Chance Romance ▶ Workplace Romance ▶ Age Gap (2 Years) ▶ Fake Dating ▶ Enemies to Lovers ▶ Loves their smile/laugh ▶ Rolled Sleeves/Forearms ▶ Third Act Breakup
Basically, this book shows that sometimes, you have to shake and stir a relationship before it fully comes together, and maybe the second time is the charm. If you didn’t get it right the first time, who’s to say you can’t perfect it on the second try?
Thank you to Netgalley, Relay Publishing and Leslie North for the gifted copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Of all the bars in Manhattan, why'd he walk into this one? Cora, the Masked Mixer, is trying to get her nest egg built up to have the bar of her dreams. But the night of an important competition with a nice pay day, her ex and CEO of his own spirits company tries to smooze her. He doesn't even recognize her even though he broke her heart 15 years ago. How dare he!? But....he is still hot and his company has a good reputation......
So cute! I love Cora and Aiden. While not all relationships are meant to be revived, I think this one was. I loved seeing the whole gang rally around Aiden and Dom (who is going through his own struggles) and Nana Dee. There are so many great characters in this book and so many opportunities to think about how things change as we grow up.

Have I told you guys how much I like realistic fiction lately? Well, here I am, saying it again for those of you in the back! This story is a perfect example in that it could have gone off the rails, like so many others have, with respect to Cora & Aiden’s past. They used to be sweethearts in high school. High school was a long time ago and they’ve accidentally reunited now, in the present, a long time from high school. You might be wondering why I keep harping on the phrase “a long time ago”, or maybe not. *shrug* If you are, it is because On The Rocks doesn’t focus much of its time on the past, even though their break-up wasn’t amicable. Why is that a good thing? Because adding pages and pages of dramatics over something that happened when they were young and a long time ago doesn’t really add anything to the story of today. Make sense? So, all of this is to say that I appreciate this story that much more for focusing on today and leaving yesterday where it belongs, in the past.
So, I love that this entire(ish) story focused on the Cora and Aiden of today. They are wiser today and honestly, as a reader, I didn’t really care (other than knowing the fact) about what happened back in the day. I wanted to know all about what was happening today and that’s what I got! YAY I love their re-unite moment, their banter and wit and their chemistry. I enjoyed the fact that not just the story itself developed nicely but so did Cora & Aiden as individuals. That’s something I am always conscious about when I read. I want the characters to grow along with their romance because if we aren’t growing as individuals, how can be grow as a couple?
I took full advantage of having all 3 of the Manhattan Bosshole ALCs in my library and binge listened to their stories in about 4 days or so and I really enjoyed the binge. I loved the Nana Dee story arc and also the connection or MMCs had to each other and Nana Dee. (read/listen to these stories and find out why LOL) That’s all you get from me on that! ;) The binge, I think, made me appreciate Leslie North’s versatility, voice and style as an author and I’m looking forward to digging into my kindle and seeing what stories I might have in there of hers to get started on asap!
🎧Denver Adams & P.J. Morgan were both new-to-me narrators and I loved them! No, seriously, LOVED THEM. Not once did I twitch! LOL I’m an in-the-mood listener when it comes to narrators and more often than not, it takes a few pauses and reassessments when I listen to someone new. NOT A SINGLE ONE! These two made me happy. I really like both of their styles and they both have wonderful range. They’re on the yes-please list now! *heart eyes*
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Holy moly! This pair kept me guessing. And twisting. And hoping. To say their story was an emotional roller-coaster ride to me would be selling it far short of reality. I was smitten with Cora from the moment this book opened. And she did an incredible job of making me not like Aiden very much. He did the rest of the job himself, because he behaves like a prime jerk a lot of times. I may be a sucker for a second chance, but it was going to take a lot of convincing for me to believe that Aiden deserved someone as awesome as Cora. And he had me most of the way convinced, until he inevitably blew it. However, I loved the ending they were able to steal from the jaws of defeat. And now I’m more anxious than ever to see what the Forever’s will look like for the remaining singletons of Nana Dee’s Lost Boys. On the Rocks is Book 2 in the Manhattan Bossholes series. It's a steamy, OTT, frenemies-to-lovers, grumpy-sunshine, second-chance, girl gets her billionaire boss office romance. Cora is a successful mixologist who makes highly successful videos as the masked mixologist. She longs to open a speakeasy someday. Aiden is the hunky, grumpy billionaire CEO of Elixir, a drink company. He and Cora were high-school sweethearts until he broke her heart. Now, he wants the masked mixologist to make a drink for his company, not knowing Cora is the woman behind the mask. Hilarity ensues as she accepts the job. Their chemistry is still hot, but I had a hard time connecting with Aiden. I absolutely loved Cora, though, and the story was a fun read.

On the Rocks is a wonderful second chance romance that brings together former high school sweethearts Cora and Aiden years after he had broken up with her and shattered her heart. Cora is now a mixologist famous on the internet as the Masked Mixer which has brought her lots of attention and Elixir CEO Aiden Callahan is one of many courting her to join their companies. Aiden doesn’t realize though that it is Cora behind the mask. This was a very enjoyable storyline with humor, drama, personal vulnerabilities, family, friendships, and spice, which is nicely written and has expertly crafted characters who bring everything together in a good entertaining read. HEA.

They say you can’t go home again but Cora and Aiden give it another shot when their paths cross more than a decade later. Will their high school romance find success again years later, or will it follow the same patterns? Or both?!
I love when the couple isn’t that problematic and still manage to discuss therapy and have honest conversations about their relationships! This is such a real story and I loved it!.

Enjoyed this second book, Cora and Aiden have history but this happens when they are teens and I admit to having my patience tested a few times during their journey to find each other. The HEA is there but it takes a few rocky turns before it settles in.

2.5* Something about Aiden breaking up with her not once, but TWICE, because he’s “big strong man can’t control my emotions around pretty girl” is ick. There were good moments until we got there, but that just ruined the rest of the book for me.
This book captures the enemies to lovers trope so perfectly. To the added 2nd chance (or 3rd if you’re Aiden) / he’s her boss trope made this book even better. The backstory to the characters really made you feel more connected to them. Rooting for both FMC and MMC throughout the entire book just builds that excitement for that page where they finally end up together. I can’t fault it!.

“L’amore comporta sentimenti forti, Aiden.
This is book two of the Manhattan Bossholes series and this time it is the turn of Nana Dee’s Lost Boy, Aiden Callihan, to find love in this second chance romance, as he meets his first love, Cora Newport, but doesn’t even recognise her! Not a great start. Cora was broken hearted when Aiden broke up with her suddenly and without any reason, whilst they were in high school. He was two years older, so left to go to college, where he met the rest of the men known as the Lost Boys, nicknamed by one of his roommates, Trent’s Nana Dee, who looked after them all on holidays when they couldn’t get home. He and his classmates produced a best seller item during their course and sold it for millions. Aiden broke up with his next girlfriend around that time and it was as he wallowed in self-pity and alcohol, that he came up with the idea for Elixir, which has become a very profitable company. Cora had rebound into a relationship with Levi, whilst still at high school, and had been with him for fifteen years, before he came home from a work trip and told her he had fallen in love with someone and packed up his belongings and just left! She was left unable to afford their apartment on her own and had to move in with her best friend Jennifer. Jennifer is a chef who is really enthusiastic about food but has seemed down in the dumps recently. Cora didn’t manage to go to college due to a family death and has been working as a bartender and a secret mixologist, known as the Masked Mixer, doing competitions and lots of online videos. She is hoping to one day open her own speakeasy, with a literary emphasis.
She is at a cocktail contest with her friend Jennifer, in her guise as the Mixed Mixer, when the Cocktail King, Aiden Calihan, comes into the bar with a following of influencers and he heads right for her table in between rounds. He doesn’t recognise her, even after she replies to him when he offers her a special ten year old reserve bottle of Elixir. He wants her to use it in the next round of the competition and isn’t exactly happy when she refuses to accept it! The night doesn’t go well for Aiden, and he is caught by the influencers he invited, almost fighting with her. Not a good look. Cora hoped wining the competition might bring her some new chances and maybe even some sponsorship deals. Jennifer tells her of an offer from her friend Allie, who works with a large drinks company and wants to meet her. Allie can’t go into details until Cora signs a Non-Disclosure Agreement, but once she has, it seems this would be the ideal job for her, a chance to come up with a whole line of non-alcoholic cocktails to go along with the company’s alcoholic line. The meeting goes well until she spots the name of the company on the paperwork, then worse when Aiden walks in. He is shocked to find to the Masked Mixer is Cora and it brings back memories of how good the two of them were in high school. But he has turned himself away from love after his last relationship also ended in a manner where he didn’t like his own reaction and what he had become! He tries to offer her more money, thinking that is all she must want, and it won’t make much of a difference to his pocket, no matter how much she wants. All he wants is her expertise and he will pay anything to get it!
When he walks into the meeting, she is raring to leave and get away from him, no matter how much Allie tries to get her to stay and discuss the deal. Aiden is being just as rude and arrogant as he was the previous night. The pay Allie shows her would be way more than she is currently earning and allow her to open her speakeasy sooner! Aiden’s arrogance has him double it, but it is only Allie chasing after her and telling her about the top of the line lab and the use of all the materials she could want to do her videos there in her own time, finally sways her. She ends up at his company and meets the team who will be working with hr, but she is the lead and can create anything she wants! The ultimate job for a mixologist and will lead to so many more offers when she is done. She only agrees to sign up until the launch, but however much she thought she could avoid him, it soon turns out both of them still have feelings for the other. Now, she just has to worry whether he will let her down again or not, and whether he will break her heart again. The relationship really starts when her ex-Levi turns up trying to win her back and Cora introduces Aiden as her boyfriend, to get rid of him. Being pulled back to finalise their school reunion at the last moment, brings back memories of their first love. The chemistry between Aiden and Cora is off the charts and while they don’t advertise it at work, everyone can tell how good they are together. Aiden’s method of dealing with Cora’s ex seem to blow up in his face and make him look at how it makes him act, leaving him to make a decision that may well break Cora for good!
Aiden needs to grow up emotionally and not just close himself off when serious emotions are involved. He sees himself reacting as he did previously and linked this to his relationships at the time, but really needs to listen to his father and how to grow his ability to control his emotions in such situations. He certainly has a lot to do to get yet another chance with Cora and make up for hurting her. I loved where Cora and Jennifer ended up and how they managed to change both of their dreams to combine with another, for a perfect mix of talents! Also, the lesson learnt that money alone doesn’t help when it comes to a meaningful apology, which many men struggle to realise. Nice to see Dominic finally finding joy with his situation with his daughter Hailey, after his ex-wife milked him for everything she could in their divorce. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout, and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
4.5 ⭐s She forgave him once, but does she have the ability to do it again?
Cora dated Aiden in high school. After Aiden dumped her, she'd started dating another classmate, Levi. They'd been dating for fifteen years when he, too, dumped her for an actress he met while in California. When he left, she was desperate to find a place to live since she couldn't afford their apartment by herself. That's when her friend, Jennifer, who lived in the same building, invited Cora to share her apartment. It's cramped in the one-bedroom apartment, but they make it work.
Cora hopes to be able to save enough money to open the business of her dreams, a speakeasy. But not just any speakeasy; she wants the whole hidden-away theme. But until that time is here, she'll keep doing her videos and her bartending job.
Aiden and his friend, Dominic, are working on a line of premium Elixir Free, alcohol-free mocktails. They hope to corner the market for people who shouldn't or don't drink but still want to socialize with friends who do.
Cora became her alter ego, Master Mixer, after returning home from a Halloween party. The worst Zombies she'd ever tasted were served at it. So she'd donned a black masquerade-style half mask and posted a video of how to prepare a proper Zombie. The post was a success, and her alter ego was born. The mask is now present in all of her mixology videos and at personal appearances.
Cora, as the Masked Mixer, has just won the first bracket in the mixology contest at Bottom of the Barrel, the new specialty cocktail bar. She not only won all three brackets and the contest, but she did it without using a drop of any of Aiden's array of Elixir alcohols. She did use two of his bottles but only as juicers.
That did it for him! First she had refused his gift, a special, hand-selected, limited-edition, tenth-anniversary bottle of Elixir. Then she'd gifted the bottle to some random guy celebrating his birthday at the bar. But when she showed such disdain for his Elixir by making a big point of rejecting his brand in the contest... Too bad he forgot about all the people who like to record cellphone videos...
He's been trying to hire Cora to develop the flavor profiles for this new line. Every time she says no to him, he just adds more money to the offer. This just makes her even angrier. She's still carrying the grudge from dumping her in high school without giving her any reason, so she keeps turning him down. She's been offered her dream job and is about to sign on with them when she discovers it's Aiden's company. He finally adds something to his offer that puts her speakeasy in the realm of happening sooner, so she signs. Her job is extended, and everything she wants seems to be in her grasp.
Aiden didn't recognize her as Cora when he met her again. It not only angers her when she realizes that, but also tears at her soul. They'd been each other's first for so many things. How do you forget your first?
Aiden never gave her a reason for dropping her in high school. It was because he'd almost gotten into a fight over her. A fight that would have cost him his chances for college scholarships. Now after an altercation with Levi in the lobby of Cora's apartment building, where Levi accused him of being a "controlling creep," he begins to wonder. Maybe he is becoming too protective, too creepy, and too hot-headed. He remembers his college girlfriend and how he'd actually gotten into fights with guys she'd flirted with. Maybe he's getting too involved with Cora again. Maybe it’s time to step back away again...

OMG Hilarious! I couldn't put it down! Cora is a bartender. A really good one. But better than that, she has quite the social media following, being known as the Masked Mixer. She invents her own drinks, and puts new spins on the classics. She's at an event one night, her alter ego easily winning a cocktail contest, when the last person she ever expected walks in. The man who broke her heart in high school. Aiden Callihan. Worse yet, he doesn't even recognize her. Aiden has made quite the name for himself in the liquor industry. His brand just hit it's tenth anniversary, but he's not stopping there. He's looking to start a new line of handcrafted mocktails, and he's sure that the Masked Mixer is the perfect person to collaborate with. He shows up at the mixology event, and even brings her a special edition bottle of his liquor, sure that she'll jump at the chance to work with him. Not only does she flat out refuse, but she makes a point of not using his liquor in her drinks. When she finally picks up a bottle, she uses it to juice a lime! What gives? When Cora gets the job offer from his company, she's ready to walk away. She can't stand to be in the same room as him. How can she possibly work for him? But the offer is just too good, and it will help her with her goal of opening her own bar. It will really elevate her social media content too. So she agrees. The two are at each other's throats, just for spite. But when it comes to the project, they're surprisingly on the same page, and Cora can't believe that the work environment is even better than she had imagined. The more time they spend together, though, the more memories surface, and they fall into what was once familiar. Can it turn out differently this time? Or are they just traveling down the same path to heartbreak? So much fun! Their banter (okay - arguing) was perfect. All of Cora's pain unleashed in snark and spite felt cathartic. And leaving Aiden frustrated and taken down a peg without knowing why was terrific. And that was just the beginning! We get to catch up with Nana Dee and the rest of her Lost Boys. We also meet some new friends and family who try to talk some sense into these two. Good luck with that, because they're both pretty hard headed! Fun characters and lively writing really pulled me in, but it was over before I wanted it to be! I'm really looking forward to the next in the series!

Fabulous Story & Narration🎧Gripping & Entertaining!
On The Rocks A Grumpy Sunshine Second Chance Billionaire Boss Romance Manhattan Bossholes, Book 2 By: Leslie North Narrated by: Denver Adams, PJ Morgan
Leslie North pens another fabulous novel, a grumpy sunshine second chance romance that grabs your attention right from the start and holds it captive straight to the end. This second book of her “Manhattan Bossholes” series is Aiden Calihan and Cora Newport’s story and is just as fabulous as the first book. Aiden, dubbed as the “cocktail king” is the owner of Elixir, a company that produces top-shelf liquor and Cora is a mixologist, who has gained notoriety on social media for her drink creations and competitions. The two have history, having dated in high school until he broke things off with no explanation and then ghosted her. Aiden approaches her in a club where she is competing in a contest and he wants her to use his liquor. She wears a mask for the competition, part of her gimmick, but she can not believe he did not recognize her, despite not revealing herself, and he is clueless because she refuses to him the time of day, which was hilarious. That isn’t the last she will see of him, but the next time he saw her, he realized who she was. He wants to her for his new product line and presents a business proposition, one she wants to refuse, but he sweetens the offer and it will help her get closer to her dream goal. These two were like oil and vinegar, but once she works for him, she lightens her animosity and is more civil. They reacquaint themselves and soon realize the chemistry between them never fizzled out. There is never a dull moment in this multilayered story, a story that has the perfect balance of drama, angst, humor via witty dialogue, heartfelt emotions and a slow burn but so worth the wait romance. The characters are relatable and there are a lot of great side and secondary characters too. Leslie North, thank you for another fabulously entertaining story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Denver Adams and PJ Morgan did a fabulous job voicing these characters and delivering a perfect portrayal of each. Adams nailed it as Aiden, grasping every aspect of his personality and demeanor, grump-a-tude and all. Morgan was just as amazing as Cora, also showcasing all sides of her personality and handled her witty dialogue effortlessly. They set the right tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These two are entertaining storytellers and their performance takes the already great story to another level.
I love a good high school sweetheart romance that lasts, but I think I like a rekindled relationship even more now. Obviously, there was no suspense on if they would get together, more just when. And I was taken in right away by the chemistry the two characters had from the beginning, and the chemistry that clearly never went away - only went into hibernation for a while.
The spice level wasn't outrageous, but the chemistry was hot and I felt it through the pages. For me, though, often it's the lead up that I like most. It's easy enough to put "things" in places when writing a sex scene, but building the heat is the hard part. And this book did that well. Even if I was angry at our hero for a while during the story, I still loved him. Obviously, I loved her more - strong-willed, clearly lovely and passionate, but also a real person I could relate to.
This book will be great for someone who likes to read a good, compelling story with good characters, and stays for some spicy, yet loving, scenes. Quick read and I was dying to know what happened next and how everything turned out. But then I was sad to be done because it meant the story was over. I was thoroughly sucked in because of the two main characters; none of the secondary characters stole the spotlight.
While clearly not a dealbreaker, since I loved the book and the journey it took me on, I do think our hero had plenty of time before meeting back up with Cora again to figure out his hangups surrounding relationships and this gave me pause while reading. I completely understand a teenage boy not having the level of maturity needed to give Cora the closure she needed back in high school, but I don't understand how he didn't have anyone in his life pointing out his silly thoughts all this time. Or even his own maturity leading him to better conclusions - he grew up to be a caring, strong, and determined man. I think maybe this didn't prevent me from loving the story because I wanted him to wait for Cora and he may have found someone else otherwise.
My only complaint is that I wanted more!
"“Love’s supposed to make you irrational," "Who on earth wants to love rationally?" (p. 324). I know I don't.

I usually root for rekindled love stories, but there were definitely moments where I wanted to shout at Cora to just kick this guy to the curb! Aiden is the poster child for self-centered, entitled jerks. More than a decade after breaking her heart in high school, Aiden comes waltzing back into Cora’s life—not to apologize, but to recruit online sensation, the Masked Mixer, to work for his company, not knowing it’s Cora behind the mask. As always, Leslie delivers a story packed with relatable characters you can’t help but root for. Cora is still nursing the wounds from their breakup, and it takes some serious persuasion for her to even consider Aiden’s job offer. The tension between them is palpable, with animosity, old heartbreak, and unresolved feelings bubbling just beneath the surface. But Cora isn’t the same girl he left behind. She’s a feisty, independent woman chasing her dream of opening her own speakeasy, and working for Aiden could fast-track her success. Surprisingly, working for Aiden turns out to be less of a nightmare and lots more fun. Turns out, the perks aren’t just financial—hello, chemistry! The sparks start flying again, and just when you think these two might finally get their act together, BAM! Cue the third-act breakup. Although I hated Levi, who couldn’t seem to take no for an answer, I still thought Aiden had the maturity of a teen. The banter between Cora and Aiden was just as good as in the first book between Vincent and Piper, who, by the way, also pop back up and it was great to see them going strong. There are lots of laugh out loud moments, especially involving some of the secondary characters, like Cora’s mom and her little tete a tete with Cora’s former English teacher. Sure, I would’ve loved to see Aiden grovel a bit more (okay, a lot more), but the way he and Cora finally talked felt satisfying and real. If you love snarky banter, sizzling chemistry, and characters who fight for their happily-ever-after, this one’s for you! Crafting signature cocktails is my passion. Mixing things up with my oh-so-hot, mega-successful ex? A surefire recipe for the world’s most epic hangover.
I only agreed to compete in this mixology contest for one reason. To raise money so I can open my own speakeasy. And I have to admit, it’s a blast…until I see him.
Aiden Calihan. Heartbreaker extraordinaire. Grumpzilla. And now the billionaire owner of a luxury liquor brand. I’d love nothing more than to douse him with a Dirty Shirley.
Then, he goes and insults my already injured pride. The sculpted scumbag doesn’t even recognize me! And he expects me to flog his overpriced booze during the contest?
Oh, hell no! I’d rather drink bottom shelf bourbon from a broken glass.
But then he offers me a job I’d have to be punch-drunk to refuse. Create the perfect nonalcoholic drink. A gig that will fast-track my speakeasy dream.

Cora and Aiden were high school sweethearts until Aiden broke up with her without any explanation, leaving them both reeling and leaving a mark on Cora with lingering unanswered questions as to why she wasn't enough for him to stay. Years later, Aiden is the CEO of a liquor company and a perpetual bachelor with no interest in a serious attachment, while Cora is a social media sensation as the "Masked Mixer" making mixology videos from a secret identity. So when the Masked Mixer is competing in an event and Aiden shows up to try and convince her to plug his products, she is not amenable to say the least. Its the first time they've seen each other since they were kids and he has no idea who she is, but she knows exactly who he is, and ruins his night without any remorse doing so. After that night, Aiden wants nothing to do with the Masked Mixer, so when his team approaches her to work on the development of a new product, he wants to cancel the offer, but when he discovers its actually Cora, it changes the dynamics entirely. Going against her better judgement and knowing it will only help her business goals, she accepts the offer. But seeing each other in the office constantly starts to take a toll on them, and eventually they start to let their defenses down and reacquaint themselves with the adult Cora and Aiden. They slowly fall for each other all over again, but when old patterns resurface and things seem like dejavu, they have to work through their present in order to have a fighting chance for a future. I love a second chance romance so much because there is so much history and angst they need to wade through to find their way back to each other and so much personal growth needs to happen so history doesn't repeat itself. Its such a satisfying HEA when you see them put in the work for each other. This story was a great example of that. Both Denver Adams and PJ Morgan are new to me narrators and they both delivered a great performance. I love discovering new talent and I hope I get to hear them on something else and watch them flourish in the community.
This is a fiery, second-chance romance, with witty banter, and a generous splash of chemistry. This steamy, high-stakes rom-com will take you into the world of cocktail crafting and dream-chasing, where the mix of ambition and old flames creates a cocktail of its own—part sweet, part bitter, and utterly intoxicating. The story follows Cora, a fiercely independent bartender with dreams of opening her own speakeasy, who enters a cocktail contest for the prize money. Everything’s on track until she runs into Aiden Calihan—her ex, the man who left her heartbroken, now a brooding billionaire and the face of a luxury liquor empire. Aiden’s appearance sends sparks flying, and it’s clear their chemistry has never really gone away. But things take an unexpected turn when Aiden offers her a once-in-a-lifetime gig to create a signature nonalcoholic drink for his brand. The deal could fast-track her dream, but working with him? Well, that’s a recipe for disaster. Aiden is the quintessential "grumpy billionaire," a man who’s equally as irresistible as he is frustrating. His aloof demeanor hides deeper layers that are slowly peeled away throughout the book. He’s not just the successful, wealthy businessman; he’s also the man who once shattered the Cora's heart. And though he doesn’t even remember her at first, his charm and persistence soon get under her skin. Cora's journey to open her speakeasy serves as a wonderful counterbalance to the romance, making the story feel even more engaging. If you're a fan of enemies-to-lovers tropes, grumpy-sunshine vibes, and a love story that promises both heartache and redemption, the I'd say you've found the perfect read. With its sharp wit, sizzling chemistry, and a hero who’ll have you both swooning and rolling your eyes, this is a romance that will leave you craving more. I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
On the Rocks is a second-chance romance that hooked me from the very first page and kept me immersed until the end! The chemistry between Cora and Aiden is electric and their journey from painful past to hopeful future is nothing short of brilliant.
Cora is a strong and independent woman who’s worked hard to carve out a life for herself as a mixologist and dreams of opening her own speakeasy. When she’s reluctantly offered a chance to work with Aiden, the man who broke her heart in high school without so much as an explanation, the tension between them is palpable. She’s understandably wary of getting close to him again and the emotional baggage that lingers between them feels real and raw. Aiden is a driven and successful businessman, but he’s never forgotten Cora and he’s determined to earn back her trust. His growth throughout the book is brilliant as he transforms from the self-centered high school boy who left her behind to a man willing to fight for their second chance.
The romance is beautifully slow-burning, with moments of fiery passion, sharp banter, and emotion that kept me hooked. The tension between them feels real and as they work through their differences, it’s impossible not to root for them.
What makes On the Rocks stand out is its heart. It’s a story about love, forgiveness, and learning from past mistakes. Aiden’s journey of growth feels authentic and satisfying, and the resolution between him and Cora is well-earned. The stakes are high, and I loved seeing how they both fought for their happiness and their future together.
If you’re looking for a romance with a well-developed plot and characters who grow and evolve throughout the story, On the Rocks is perfect. I couldn’t put it down and will definitely be coming back for more of Leslie’s work. This book is everything you want in a second-chance romance, and more!
This was such a fun read. It had me laughing and really enjoying the banter between Aiden and Cora. This second chance romance, maybe even third chance, brought out all the stops. The tension between the two as they meet. The angst and the desire they form as they are forced together more. The banter keeping the reader smiling and laughing along. It was all around a cute read with the struggles of real life thrown into the mix as well. I really enjoyed this listen and narrators PJ Morgan and Denver Adams really brought this book to life for me. They were perfect for this, and their voices are exactly what I would have imagined for these characters.
blurb: Crafting cocktails is my thing. Mixing it up with my maddeningly hot, mega-successful ex? A recipe for the most epic hangover of my life.
I entered this cocktail contest for one to win the prize money and finally open my dream speakeasy. And everything’s going smoothly—until I spot him.
Aiden Calihan. The man who wrecked me worse than a tequila hangover. Now he’s a brooding billionaire and the face of a luxury liquor empire. I’d love nothing more than to splash a Dirty Shirley in his infuriatingly perfect face.
Except it gets worse. He doesn’t even recognize me. OK—I'm wearing a costume and it's dark, but still! He even has the audacity to expect me to promote his overpriced booze.
Oh, absolutely not. I’d rather chug warm, bottom-shelf whiskey from a broken glass.
But then, Aiden throws a he offers me a once-in-a-lifetime gig—create the ultimate nonalcoholic drink for his brand. The paycheck would fast-track my speakeasy dreams, but working with Mr. Grumpy McGorgeous? A hazard to my sanity.
I tell myself I can keep it professional. But Aiden has a way of getting under my skin—and into my dreams. The chemistry between us is impossible to ignore. And if I’m not careful, this time he might just break me for good.
Leslie North's "On the Rocks" plunges listeners into a deliciously volatile mix of past hurts and undeniable chemistry, brought to life by the compelling narration of P. J. Morgan and Denver Adams. From the outset, we meet Cora, a passionate cocktail crafter whose world is thrown into delightful disarray when she enters a contest only to encounter her "maddeningly hot, mega-successful ex," Aiden Calihan. Morgan expertly channels the heroine's simmering resentment and fierce independence, making her every internal groan and sarcastic retort feel palpable. You can practically taste the "Dirty Shirley" she longs to splash in his face.
Aiden, voiced by Adams, embodies the brooding billionaire with an infuriatingly perfect demeanor. Adams navigates Aiden's initial obliviousness and subsequent calculated charm with a nuanced performance, perfectly conveying the man who "wrecked me worse than a tequila hangover." The initial tension is amplified by his infuriating lack of recognition and the audacity of expecting her to promote his liquor. This sets the stage for a delightful push-and-pull dynamic that is the hallmark of a classic enemies-to-lovers narrative.
The plot thickens when Aiden offers a tempting, yet sanity-threatening, opportunity. The internal battle between financial gain and emotional self-preservation is brilliantly articulated by Morgan, while Adams's portrayal of Aiden's persistent presence in her dreams adds to the growing romantic tension. Despite the familiar tropes, the narrators' strong performances elevate the material, transforming the "hazard to my sanity" into a thoroughly engaging listen. "On the Rocks" is a spirited concoction of romance, rivalry, and redemption, perfectly served by its vocal talents.
