Rosemont Manor #2

How to Seduce a Slender

Rate this book
Melody Deathless is in trouble. Having spent her life with no memory of the day her brother disappeared, she's used to a merciless world that doesn't care for poor little orphan werewolves—the only exception being this waitress's most peculiar regular. Smith Rosemont, a lawyer for the Lich in the woods, and someone she'd like to sink her fangs into, has for the last three years sat in her section just to order pancakes and talk.

After Melody is chased out of the city by eldritch beasts with no memory of who wants her dead, Smith's the only witness. The Slender takes her to the safest place he can think of, Rosemont Manor.

Nestled in the Haunted Forest outside King's Fall, the pair try to unravel the plot to kill Melody. Smith will have to use all his wisdom to unmask who is pulling the puppet strings while trying not to devour the woman he's been obsessed with for years. There is more bloody history at Rosemont Manor than anyone realized as the past that Smith kept locked away comes bubbling up to the surface. Melody will have to accept that she's found herself in the middle of a vicious game of cat and mouse.

With Melody's life hanging in the balance, Smith will stop at nothing to keep her safe—including face the very mistake that took him from his home in The Endless Woods and landed him in a contract with Sebastian Rosemont. They'll have to hunt down more than each other to solve this mystery. Who better to find the heart he left behind, than a little lost werewolf?

A sequel to How to Marry a Lich, How to Seduce a Slender welcomes readers back to Rosemont Manor for another smutty, spooky tale. Fans of The Addams Family, Van Helsing, and Bram Stoker will go feral for this scrumptious Gothic Monster Romance.

Smith was an anxious slender who was utterly devoted to his found family and Melody. So much of his story broke my heart. Melody was feisty and playful, but lonely. Her whole past traumatic experiences definitely impacted how she approached life. They both had to take some terrifying leaps to be emotionally vulnerable to have the relationship they did at the end. Kevin, Mr adorable zombie, is quite possibly my fave character in the book. The whole house was filled with interesting people and I’m excited to come back to it. I enjoy the lore rich world as well.

One evening, Melody is chased in the woods and attacked, and is saved by her regular diner customer, yet has no recollection as to why she was attacked or has been in the past.

Smith has been a regular customer at Melody’s diner for the past three years just to visit Melody. When he saves her in the forest, he’s determined to protect and also find out who is attacking her and why.

Lizzie has a such a way with words. I mean this book is so humorous, and romantic, and yet has a side of such horror and eeriness to it that I’m always thrown by the darkness tossed into a book with so much hilarious humor and romance, and even lightheartedness.

This had such a great mystery added to it too. I always love a fantasy that has a mystery entwined into it. It keeps me on my toes while also enjoying the story and romance mixed into it.

Smith was just a giant slender cinnamon roll 😆 He was too cute and too sweet and too adorable and when his dominant side came out, shewwwww he became like another person and I loved it. I know Melody did 😏

And Melody is easily relatable with her insecurities and I loved how Smith never allowed her to stay feeling like that for long, especially since she helped him with his insecurities. They were made for each other 🥰 I also loved how well Melody fit into this eccentric family!

Definitely recommend if you love a good monster romance with a side of horror and spookiness.

Thank you to the author for the e-ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I fucking love everything about King's Fall and the inhabitants that we've been introduced to by Lizzie Strong.
The inhabitants of Rosemont manor continue to amaze me with their kindness and willingness to welcome all who are lost. After seeing Sebastian, the lich, find his happily ever after, I was very excited to see that Smith the slender was next.

As a millennial, I grew up on some particular stories. While Smith may bear a very slight resemblance, the Slender in this story is far more interesting!
He's a loyal friend, intelligent, great conversationalist, respectful, and has great detective skills. He's also very willing to chomp anyone who threatens the people he loves. Melody and Smith are equally matched. The banter they share with each other and the other inhabitants of Rosemont manor was a delight to read. One would be lucky to have a friend or a partner like them.

How to Marry a Lich was my first foray into King’s Fall and Lizzie’s horde of lovable monsters, and I was ECSTATIC when I heard she was writing a sequel!! The family is described once as the wacky pack and that’s honestly the best way to describe them all; Adams Family with a heavy dose of gothic horror elements.

I didn’t know how well the Slender thing was going to work for me, especially after how blank Smith was in the first book, but the backstory, the fleshing out the history of the manor, the TENSION this pair has…. I had my nose in this book every chance I got. I loved seeing Dahlia as the Hungry One and adjusting to life as an eldritch god while maintaining her “you will let me love you dammit” attitude. Austin continues to be a lovable cutie, and my biggest complaint is that I currently can’t find fanart of the painting of Moonpie and I don’t have the time to make it myself!

10/10, no notes, be prepared with beverage of choice, cozy blanket, and other … items as needed. The spice is spicy and frequent in this one and I have no complaints.

Zombie! ”

“Where?” The zombie whirled around.

I am happy we got a book two in this series. However, it has taken me 2 days to even muster the energy to write this review.

The book was too much and also too little, interspaced with the mundane of the day. The story started off strong, then we had a bit of dead air, then it picked up once more until the end. Was this perhaps released on a weekly basis on the author's website etc then compiled into a book? I would be surprised if not, because it at times read as a serialized story.

Two days? Melody didn’t feel like she’d been unconscious for two days. If anything, it felt like a good night’s rest.

Girl was running from Eldritch horrors, collapsed to recuperate and didn't shower? *disapproving side eye*

What ‘cha got there?”....

Have you lost ya marbles?”

Eih, whoever came up with the ya instead of you to connote a southern or whatever it is accent needs to be shot in the foot. This is like the third book in the last two months that I have read with that distinct writing style/method/whatever you call it. Whatever it is I fucking hate it. With a passion! Stop with the accented writing. It would jar me so much while reading a scene, then we also have the fact that Melody's accent also does not carry from the start to the end of the book. It is heavily emphasized at the start, sort of disappears for the better part of the middle of the story then is back again for a brief appearance somewhere towards the end.

I absolutely adored that Melody was the werewolf but she wanted to be chased. I loved the primal play/chasing aspect. I loved the scene in the dream world where she couldn't look back (like the mythology story that I cannot remember) but it was for more her safety, then Smith brought down his prey all so casual like. Very scar-ousing.

Chapter 9, 19, 23, 24 hot. Loved them.

We’re undead, not dead-dead.”

I loved the humour, which was largely courtesy of the side characters. I was a bit bummed out that apart from Agatha and I think Austin, the other side characters, especially my favourite, Greggory, had such minor parts in this story.

I will render this realm to static and endless fog if you ask it of me. And I will hunt you to the ends of this realm and the next as long as you never stop smiling at me.

Smith is just so sweet. He is meant to be this scary thing (I think maybe people who have watched movies with slendermen will feel his scary aspect more. I personally didn't because I have seen photos, drawings of them but not watched them on screen) yet through his actions and largely how Melody see's him, he is such a cinnamon roll.

A plot point that made no sense to me, the reference girlie pop.

Anyway, this was an okay read. It could have been better. Too much and yet too little, all at the same time.

I loved this exciting follow-up to How to Marry a Lich. While the rest of the books in the King’s Fall series can be read as standalones, I wouldn’t recommend that approach for this one. It really works best as a sequel to How to Marry a Lich, and personally, I’d also suggest reading Hauntings&Company, maybe even A Fowl Company, before diving in, though it’s not strictly necessary. (All three of those books are fantastic anyway.)

The FMC, Melody, is a waitress who has a run-in with some mysterious creatures and ends up being rescued by the Slender MMC, Smith, the lawyer bestfriend from How to Marry a Lich.

This installment in the King’s Fall / Rosemont Manor series leans darker, with horror elements, gothic vibes, and plenty of running through a spooky mansion in a gorgeous ballgown… while being chased. But make it sexy.

Both main characters are sweet and endearing, and their contrasting personalities complement each other well. We also get to spend more time with the quirky housemates of Rosemont Manor, who all come together to unravel the mystery and murders happening in King’s Fall.
This is a deliciously gothic monster romance and a perfect addition to the series, spooky, spicy, even a little silly at times. I’m excited to see what’s next… it looks like Austin might be getting his book!

My rating: Five stars

• Lovecraftian horror
• Slenderman Lawyer MMC
• Werewolf artist FMC
• Amnesia

• Nightmares

I need to stop saying “this is my favourite Lizzie book!” Because they are all my favourites! And they just keep getting better.
This book had so many elements that I adore, Eldritch horror, gothic vibes, a romance between characters that genuinely felt like they fell for each other, side characters that stood out as clearly as the main characters, adorable animals and lots of funny moments and puns. The humour was balanced exponentially with steamy moments and horror sequences that gave me goosebumps..
I have to admit I was hesitant at first to read a monster romance with a slenderman as the MMC but my concerns were quickly resolved as Smith was such a sweet cinnamon roll in his own strange cryptid way. Also the fact that Lizzie’s female character are magical creatures as well as the monster heroes are always a delight!
Melody Deathless is our heroine and she is such a baddie! Gosh I just love this book so much!
Please give yourself a little sweet treat and read this book.

I've said it a million times but I will say it again, I am the BIGGEST Lizzie fangirl and so if she writes it, you know I'm going to read it. And I think this may be my favorite book of hers I have ever read (sorry Markus! Lol)

Not only do we get to revisit some old, beloved characters from previous books (aka everyone from to marry a lich) but we are introduced to melody, who is hilarious, headstrong and stubborn. She is perfect for our boy Smith. I remember reading how to marry a lich and just being so curious about Smith. I just loved him and we barely knew him. Getting to know him more in this book? UGH. He was just perfect. This book to me really felt like coming home. Being thrown back into the mayhem and madness that is Rosemont household just gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling....ghosts and ghouls aside.

The story follows Melody Deathless. After being chased out of town she is rescued by Smith, the lawyer and best friend of the lich of kings fall. The 2 start to investigate why she was being chased and who is trying to kill her. This book is full of adventure, mystery and spice. It is the PERFECT addition to the Rosemont Manor series.

I love Lizzie’s writing style! Like all her other books, this one was filled with dark humor and funny one-liners sprinkled throughout the story.

I really liked both Melody and Smith as characters. The chemistry between them was there and I loved learning more about both of them throughout the story. The plot kept me hooked and I didn’t want to put this book down. I can’t wait to read more!

I loved the first book in the Rosemont Manor series, How to Marry a Lich, so it was nice to see some of the familiar characters again.

If you enjoy stories filled with funny moments and dark humor like The Addams Family, I highly recommend checking out this series!

“You want me to be the monster in the woods?”
“You’re just a lost little girl in the woods with no wolf to keep her safe.”
“Just like a lawyer to put terms and conditions on a kiss.”
“You’re in for a world of surprise, but I deal with madness every day. Doesn’t mean it’s not real or it wasn’t real in the moment.”
“I am your depravity. I am your desires made real.”

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.

Can someone from Rosemont Manor adopt me now? Please? I love their little family they've created. Somehow even with all the madness, quirky shenanigans, and eldritch horrors, that manor feels like all the warm fuzzies.

Smith's and Melody's banter had me cracking up and giggling and kicking my feet the entire book. They were the perfect match for each other. And their chemistry in the bedroom (and graveyards 😏) was HOT HOT HOT.

Lizzie had me guessing and on the edge of my seat the whole time! And in true Lizzie form the ending was crazy and wild and emotional.

My most favorite part though? Finding all the Emperor's New Groove references. 🤣

love love love!

i was so happy to spend more time at rosemont manor with this cute little family of misfits! these books are so fun and make me feel right at home. lizzie is such an amazing author, her ability to craft a romantic, humorous, and intricately spooky story is so refreshing. this was a perfect balance of mystery and sexy spooky fun! i loved getting to know smith more, and our new heroine melody was wonderful. watching her come into her own, overcome her trauma, and accept the love she deserves was beautiful. smith’s journey was also just as impactful, and i loved them both so much! i can’t wait for the next one! i’m looking at you austin 👀
i never thought i’d find a slender man sexy, but here we are! fantastic read! thank you lizzie for the arc in exchange for an honest review

This was a pretty adorable gothic romance, with some dark elements. Never read a Slender mmc before. It was kind of difficult to picture things sometimes but wasn’t too bad. He was sweet and protective. Had been smitten for years, which I also loved.

Even though he was sweet, he was still a dirty boy, which is one of my favorite types of mmc’s.

Melody was a sweet werewolf. I’m glad it wasn’t OV stuff included. Not to yuk and body’s yum, I just haven’t had much luck finding wolf shifter books without it.

Hope we will get more books in the series in the future!

I wanted to love this book so so bad. I couldn’t get past all the snickering and the typos and the extreme amount of times the words ripped and ripping was used. Things and people were constantly being ripped away and were ripping. The story had so much potential but it didn’t get there for me. I will continue to read books by the author. This one just wasn’t it for me.

Lizzie’s book are always such a fun time, and this one did not disappoint! The absolute chaos and shenanigans this book contains… and the romance was so stinking adorable. This one is much heavier on the horror than many of her books but I feel like there was a really good balance of grotesque and giggly fun. I’m so honored to be on the ARC team for Lizzie and will always recommend her books for a good time!

Being back at Rosemont Manor felt like coming home to something eerie, smutty, and surprisingly tender—chaos, curses, and all. Seeing the world through Smith’s eyes was such a treat. He’s always seemed so put together, but beneath that calm, polite exterior is a feral, obsessive mess who’s been quietly pining over Melody Deathless for years. Like, ordering pancakes just to stare at her? Sir. Mood.

Melody isn’t some soft, shy thing—she’s got teeth, strength, and she’s a werewolf with a missing wolf and a past full of holes she’s still trying to piece together—setting you up to root for her and Smith as they unravel the mystery together. She matches Smith’s energy beat for beat, leaning into every dark need he’s got. Chasing, spanking, primal play—you name it, and their chemistry hits all the right unhinged notes. The woods, the chase, enthusiastic consent everywhere... I ate it up.

What really got me was how the Rosemont crew welcomed Melody like she’d always been part of their weird little family. Sebastian, Dahlia, and the gang just folded her right in, making that haunted manor feel like home again. Plus, we dive deeper into the twisted history of the original Rosemont household—Smith’s past is tightly tangled up in it all—which totally ties into the story’s shocking surprises and deeply haunting revelations. So good!

Huge thanks to Lizzie Strong for the ARC—diving back into King’s Fall was a wickedly good time.

Smith is a Slender and a lawyer who works for the Lich in the Woods. For 4 years he has been frequenting a terrible diner and eating terrible flapjacks, just so that he can talk to the lovely Melody Deathless. So when Ms Deathless comes running through the woods and needs help, what is he to do?!

Melody is a lost girl, but when she finds Rosemont Manor, Smith Rosemont and his eccentric family, maybe she has found her place. They need to get rid of a pesky necromancer first though.

I was so happy to head back to Rosemont Manor and visit with my faves from the house. I’m a Dahlia and Sebastian fangirl, and I still love them the best, but Smith and Melody learn so much about themselves through this story that is was heartwarming… around the eldritch horrors of course!

I loved seeing Agatha, Haversham, Kevin and Austin again too. I believe we are getting an Austin book, but I would read anything with these kooky characters.

Lizzie Strong knows how to write spice, horror, magic and big girls with strength and personality. Melody, like Dahlia, has no qualms with doing what needs to be done for her friends and her found family and that is inspiring. The love of all kinds in this book brings such joy!

I like a stroll to King’s Fall in book form, but visits to Rosemont Manor are my absolute fave - if you like romance, spice, all things gothic and horror with a sprinkling of fun and laughter, these are the books for you!

This was absolutely amazing! I’m having a hard time picking which book from this series is my favorite, I love Sebastian and Dahlia but Melody and Smith really did it for me too. It was a wonderful addition to the series and I loved seeing all the characters I had fallen in love with in How To Marry A Lich. Smith was a favorite of mine in book 1 and getting to see him fall in love and get loved in return was so sweet. Melody met him at every depraved and vulnerable turn, taking everything in stride and finding her place in the chaos. I related to her so much, always taking care of yourself and just craving for anyone to care for you for a change.

All of her trials and all of her and Smith’s domestic and sweet moments warmed my heart. And the spicy moments, well they certainly warmed something else *wink wink*. There was a plethora of tropes to enjoy, from primal play, biting, aphrodisiac venom, to special equipment, shadows and my personal favorite, spanking, it was all sooooo good. I loved seeing Melody egg on Smith and seeing him let loose on her. All to come back to making sure she ate, drank and carrying her around when she gets tired. It was the perfect balance of sweet and spicy, I 100% recommend!

Add to your TBR if these sound good to you:
💀 Shadow Play
💀 Somno
💀 Primal Play
💀 Addams Family meets Van Helsing
💀 Cozy Lovecraftian Horror
💀 Found Family
💀 Werewolf x Slender
💀 He's a lawyer
💀 He's obsessed with her (simps so hard he eats pancakes that he hates just to talk to her)

These books are my serotonin. Monster lovers, get in here.

Lizzie Strong writes stories that make me go ... huh, well I never considered a romance with THIS but sure let's see what this is about. And just then imagine that meme from Community of the dean squinting at a screen going 'This better not awaken anything in me'..

Strong's books always have such amazingly healthy and balanced relationships. They are all consent kings. They talk about their feelings. Monsters do it right. If you want a book that is cozy, sweet, spicy, and strange in all the right ways, this is for you. This might be my favorite yet!

Thanks to the amazing author for the complimentary copy!

Gosh I don’t even know where to start with this one. I always adore Lizzie strong’s FMC’s. They are so damn relatable and as a plus size girlie it’s wonderful to have plus size representation. Melody felt so real to me and I could relate to being that hot mess trying to make it through as an adult. And Smiths obsession with her was adorable. Getting to see them come together and grow was great. There are times you wanna bash their heads together and tell them to just admit how they feel. I love that Melody is the first person to truly see smith. What I didn’t expect to get with this book is a slender kink. (We listen and we don’t judge 😂). But yet again Lizzie has crafted a wonderful story that takes you back to Rosemont manor and lets you visit with old friends while making new ones. The banter is top tier (melody truly is a menace and I live for it), the spice is spicey and o so finger licking good and the plot is satisfying. I highly recommend this wonderful read.

Did I know that one of the things I enjoyed was eldritch horror romance novels? No. Am I happy to find that out? Hell ya! I loved this story, it was a very interesting monster story. Smith is a goddamn delight and Melody’s optimism is incredibly endearing. I love a Lizzie Strong book and this did not disappoint.

There is a fair amount of body horror stuff that happens so be aware but the spice level is high and a has a good mix of plot vs smut. If you’ve ever wanted to be chased through the woods and you are a bit spooky this one is a fantastic one for you.

If feel like if you are into anything tentacle-y you will also be into slendermany stuff.

Scaroused; To be scared and aroused at the same time. It sounds odd but sometimes you can be scared but yet also aroused at the very same time.
That is how I felt when I heard about this book, this of course was before I read “How to Marry a Lich” but nevertheless I knew I needed this series in my life. I was right.
Remember how, How to Marry a Lich made me put a demigorgen on my hear me out cake… well slender man has ALWAYS been on my heart me out cake because tentacles and this validated that in so many ways. Okay so not only does he have those fun appendages, but he has TWO peens AND HE VIBRATES he is a natural vibrator because of his static nature. What a dream!
Besides being sexual scarousing this slender man is also a swoon worthy gentleman and takes care of the FMC, he checks in on her and makes sure she’s drinking water and taking proper care of herself which is so sweet.

Review:
We had high points as well as lower points.
I'm not sure what felt different about this one in comparison to the others. May have been the amnesia plot point, there was a lot of uncertainty throughout.
Also, during the longer narrative paragraph, I found myself zoning out, I didn't think her writing style had changed.
I loved the reappearance of the characters from her previous books.

Right off the bat, I adore Melody and her attitude and the dynamic that she has with Smith made my whole reading experience even better. They’re witty, sassy and sometimes downright naughty with each other and I loved it.

The whole dynamic of Rosemont Manor is beautiful and the found family aspect warms my heart, they all support each other and love each other in their own way and they accept Melody with open arms. The mystery and chaos that happens is gripping in my opinion, I was trying to guess what would happen next, only to be completely wrong and being floored by what really happened and who did it.

Smith had found his perfect lady. She is everything that he needs for his Slender self to be with. She even has the added bonus of being into his static body and touch. They make quite the couple. He loves to care and plan and take care of everything and everyone. Melody loves that he does all this for her. He gives her everything she has lacked in her life.
The bonus of being accepted by the Rosemount household is an added benefit for her too. They are able to help as she learns what is missing from her memory and herself too.
I love each member of this found family. I cannot wait to see if there is another member going to get a story or if this family is complete.

As much as I love monster romance, would I have ever thought a slender would be on my radar? No. But guess what? I love Smith!

Lizzie has such a way with creating FMC and MMC that are so different but compliment each other in the absolute best ways. This book is a great example of that!

The hardships they face in this book, the found family, the romantic moments and the giant climaxes jumping off the cliffs into the next exciting chapter had me unable to put this book down. I absolutely loved it!

I was one of many that wanted Smith's story. So Glad it's finally here. Also happy to see all my favorite side characters again. Being back in the world of Rosemont Manor with an exciting new couple is just the tip of the iceberg with this book. If you like primal/chase play you are going to love this book. The plot was delectable as always. I wouldn't complain if each side character ended up with a novella 👀. or maybe since Lizzie is into dungeons& dragons we could get official character sheets. 👀

I really like all the characters we have, almost more than I like Melody. (I havent read the first one bc it is not available on KU but I liked it's MCs more than Melody at least in this book.) I thought the plot was interesting. There were two "villains" you could say and I found them a little lackluster.

The horror aspect of the novel was good. I enjoyed the gore and fighting. The smut was also some top tier shit.

All that being said, I can't give it a 4 so 3 - pretty mid. I honestly don't think it could be better per se, but it wouldn't be a consistent rec I would give someone.

bsolutely love lizzies books and this book didn't disappoint.

Love Smith and melody and can't get enough of the cemetery between them,  I loved learning more about both of them throughout the story. There is a fair amount of body horror stuff that happens so be aware but the spice level is high and a has a good mix of plot vs smut.

Love that we get to spend  more time getting to know housemates of Rosemont Manor, and share the quirkiness and love they have for each other.
