Rate this book
The summer before my senior year of college was supposed to be lose my virginity, avoid all unnecessary drama, and keep my mind focused on my future career far away from this small town.
Easy enough.
Too bad my newly emerged omega instincts have other plans and my first heat cycle hits me like a freight train with no brakes and zero respect for timing.
What was supposed to be a one-time, anonymous hookup behind a glory hole has turned into a slick mess of heat haze, bad decisions, and way too much cuddling. Because the cocky, dirty-talking alpha on the other side of the wall? Yeah, that turns out to be Maverick—my brother’s best friend and the last person on Earth I should be moaning for.
And when the heat pheromones finally subside, will Maverick want to pretend it never happened, the way any sane person would after crossing the line with their best friend’s nerdy little brother? Or will he try to stake his alpha claim on me and ruin my future plans?
Either way, I’m in big trouble.
And possibly in heat again…

This is a non-shifter omegaverse romance with no MPreg.

A GLORIOUS DUMPSTER FIREEEEE.

If you’re here for mind-blowing, page-turning sex, congratulations—you’ve struck gold. Every intimate scene sizzles with intensity, passion, and a heat that practically jumps off the page. The author knows exactly how to make your heart race and your cheeks burn, every encounter is written with a delicious intensity that genuinely kept me hooooooked. The author clearly has a knack for steamy, arousing moments—I can’t deny I enjoyed every SECOND AND tbh the sex scenes are the only reason this book earns any stars at all—they delivered, consistently and with flair. Outside the bedroom? Well… brace yourself...you'll crash into a wall of disappointment.

Their connection was so confusing, ridiculous, and utterly unearned. Two people spend their lives avoiding each other, exchanging odd glances, and then—bam—one hookup and suddenly they’re soulmates? Nope. Doesn’t feel real, doesn’t feel earned. The “slow build” (even when it wasn’t slow) fell completely flattttttttt.

And don’t get me fucking started on the Big Brother’s Best Friend trope, and how it was handled, because I came for all the forbidden tension, the stolen moments that make your chest tighten, the pulse-racing anticipation that keeps you on edge, the deliciously dangerous thrill of knowing it’s off-limits, and instead I got absolutely nothing. The “forbidden vibes” that are supposed to make this trope so irresistible were completely abseeeent. The brother’s opposition existed only on the surface, a hollow obstacle with no real weight, no pushback that could make the stakes feel real. The tension that should have been practically vibrating off the pages was entirely missing, and the fear of being caught, the secretive relationship that makes the heart pound, were ghosted entirely. It felt less like a story that actually explored this trope and more like a shallow tease, the author dangling it in front of readers as bait with zero intention of delivering the satisfying tension and emotional payoff that anyone would reasonably expect. Disappointed doesn’t even begin to cover it. I was fucking hungry for that heart-stopping, forbidden energy and i walked away with absolutely nothing but empty promises.
Then there’s the repeated, obnoxious mentions of past hookups, which were neither sexy nor clever—just endlessly irritating. There was some parts when the story veered into a sex scene, the Maverick felt compelled to compare his current lover to every past conquest, as if reminding us constantly of his previous escapades was supposed to be Sexy ???????. Congrats, it wasn’t. It was dumb. It was gross. Thankfully, most of the book—about 70%—is told from Skye’s POV, which at least saved me from hating the entire experience outright. The moment the narrative switched to Maverick? Instant eye-rolls. His thoughts were not just unnecessary, they were actively annoying, dragging down the pacing and making me question, why do I even bother and read this nonsense?????

The characters themselves were painfully shallow, completely lacking depth, connection, or any real sense of meaning, making it nearly impossible to connect with them or feel anything for their relationship. The chemistry between them—the spark, the tension, the electric connection that should have made their interactions thrilling—was entirely MIA. The way their relationship was handled feels like a crime: it moves so fast that there’s no way to understand how they genuinely feel for each other. Communication, which could have grounded the story and made their bond believable, is nearly nonexistent. Every opportunity for understanding, for connection, is missed, leaving interactions feeling frustrating, awkward, and immature.

The book is rushed in a way that kills any potential for genuine character development. There is no proper build-up between them; their relationship never grows organically. Honestly, this story would have worked so much better as a focused, smutty, steamy novella, tight and punchy, around 60% of its current length. But the last 40%—where the author tries to add plot and “expand” the story—only makes it worse, dragging down what little enjoyment the first part offered. The pacing collapses, the characters’ flaws are magnified, and the rushed, forced plot completely undermines the book. The first 60% had some potential, but the final 40% is a mess that ruins everything.

Then there’s the den scene, which was my “favorite” part, because it feels like it was inserted into the story for the sake of having something dramatic, rather than because it actually served the plot. It comes across as cringy, forced, and utterly meaningless. The mate bond, which should be the emotional and narrative backbone of the story, is mishandled completely. Being mated and the bond between them should be a powerful, tension-filled point in the story, but here it is reduced to confusion and poorly executed drama. At first, they are mated, then they go to the den as if to break that bond, and the result is just ridiculous. The scene adds pointless characters and complications that do nothing to make me invested; instead, it’s frustrating and disengaging. By the end, they are mated again, and it feels hollow and unnecessary—like the author wanted to include a “dramatic moment” but had no real idea how to make it work in a meaningful or powerful way. If you don’t know how to handle such a pivotal point with care and impact, it’s far better to leave it alone than to make it so cringy and ineffective😊.

SOOOOOO I genuinely believe this story could have worked beautifully as a novella—punchy, focused, and actually enjoyable, probably earning a solid four stars. But as a full-length novel? The expansion only magnified every flaw: poor communication, rushed plot points, shallow characters you can barely connect to, and an ending that practically screamed, “Let’s just finish this already.” Relief, not satisfaction, is all I felt at the end, as if I had survived a storm of missed opportunities and empty promises.

cora, come here, we need to talk.

i love that you’re exploring omegaverse but we really need to think about some stuff:
1 omegaverse without mpreg just means you’re too scared to go for it. go for fucking it.

2 maybe let’s do some world building next time? nothing too crazy, we don’t need like 1000 years of history, but maybe tell us what pack means, why skye had a heat overy other day and then didn’t have one for weeks, the random ass fucking shifters (!!!), and so on. they’re crucial to the book.

3 maybe let’s make sure we explore our plot? like who blocked the numbers, the potential shifter thing?? they just weren’t mentioned again

4 maverick being a manwhore like that (going to glory holes and orgies literally every weekend) while crushing on skye gave me the ick

5 skye’s idiot brother whose name i already forgot is a shitty friend to maverick. he keeps calling maverick trailer trash and says he has his reasons why his brother shouldn’t date him, and apparently those reasons are that he lives in a trailer park??? i won’t say anything else about this, because they might take down my profile if i do

6 basically it was good until 40% and then it went downhill with every page. it pisses me off so much

i’m sure there are other things, but i’m still sick and sadly i don’t get paid to write reviews, so this is all

When life gives you lemons, fuck the hell out of that lemonade.
As soon as I read glory hole and heat and brother's best friend, I knew I would be obsessed with this book! Skye is determined to lose his virginity and heads to a nearby glory hole, where he's lucky enough to share the... er... hole with his brother's best friend Maverick. He knows that Mav doesn't like him much, but surely he'll help Skye through his heat. There's no future for the two of them because Skye is determined to move out of his tiny hometown, but a temporary fling won't be a bit deal. It's not like Skye's going to get attached.... and it's not like Mav has been pining for Skye to notice him for years.
It’s him. He has a hold over me. I’d say it’s just the bond, but I know better. It’s him.
Skye and Mav are typical boneheaded idiots who don't communicate at all outside the bedroom. The story verges on miscommunication trope, but in reality it's non-communication trope. The two idiots somehow manage to get to know each other in and around their dingbat assumptions about each other. Skye thinks Mav views him as the nerdy and undesirable younger brother of his friend. Maverick thinks Skye sees him as a deadbeat stuck in a dead-end job, in a dead-end town. Both of them feel as though they aren't good enough for the other. Somehow they accidentally stumble into a charming HEA despite themselves.
"Just know, I don’t share. You’re mine while I have you, Skye-light.”

🚨 FOR ANYONE ELSE THAT MAY BE CONFUSED 🚨

I'm not going to rate this because I didn't read that much of it since it turns out I READ IT BEFORE, but that was not at all clear to me, and I'm irrationally mad about it 🤣 I realize this, so please just let me have this. Also, I feel like someone needs to mention it because I couldn't find others doing so in the reviews when I was confused and looking for an answer.

As I have said many times, my memory is trash, so I realize part of this is on me, but also, I feel like Cora Rose is at fault here too. I think she should've mentioned somewhere in the promo for this book that it is the novel version of a novella with the SAME NAME she published in August of last year. Apparently, she just added more material to the novella to make it novel length and re-released it 🙃 Was this at all clear? NO.

Maybe that info was posted on social media somewhere, but I can't be going around checking all the places. Who has time for that? Not me. I'm subscribed to her newsletter and even that didn't say a peep about it unless I missed something. The blurb says nothing about it. The front matter in the book says nothing about it. In my experience, when authors do something along the same lines, there is usually a note of some kind letting people know. Not here, nope. I just went in and felt like I had entered the Twilight Zone because I was under the assumption it was a new book since nothing was said to the contrary 😵‍💫

Okay, fine, not really a big deal BUT the problem is I feel gaslit about it! If you look around, there is no indication anywhere that this was ever released in any form before 🤷🏼‍♀️ I couldn't even find anyone talking about it in the reviews. Was I the only person that read the other version??? It wasn't until I searched back in my email and found her newsletter from August 2024 talking about the novella that I realized I wasn't losing my mind (for this reason anyway). If there was a novella version ever listed on GR, it's gone now. If I wrote a review for that version, I wouldn't even know. Alas, here is a long-ass rant letting everyone else know my woes 😂

So, fellow friends with poor memories, if you feel like you read this book before, rest assured you probably did. You are not alone. This book did exist in a different form. Anyway, this doesn't serve to help as an actual review, but I feel better getting it out and that's what matters to me 🤣

⭐️ 4/5 — Docked a star off for the unresolved mysteries—justice for my nosy ass. 🤨
🌶 4/5 — Spicy enough to fog up Skye's crooked glasses and mine too (if I wore glasses, that is 🤪). 🤓

💖 Special Buddy-Read Shoutout 💖

Freya, my love… We’ve basically lived inside this book together 🤣📚💞 hours (literally every damn day 😂) of screaming, crying, swooning, and overanalyzing every single scene? Absolute chaos and perfection. 🤌🏻✨️💀 Even with that 5-hour time difference messing with us, we still managed to sync up like the queens we are! 💅🏻👑😏👯🏻‍♀️ You made this buddy read feel like a marathon hangout and I wouldn’t trade our unhinged chats for anything! Thank you and love you a whole bunch, bby! 🥹🥰🫂😘✨️💕

💭 My Ramblings 💭

This is only my 2nd Cora Rose book, but also her first dip into omegaverse—and damn, I already know I’ve got a love-hate thing with this woman. 💖 Because the truth? I love her books. The angst? The separation? The way she yanks my heart out with the 3rd act breakups? …Yeah, not so much. 🥲 What can I say—I’m a sensitive softie with the emotional range of a wet tissue. Sue me. 🤨

👨🏻‍🔧👓 The MCs 👓👨🏻‍🔧

Maverick (Alpha) — My poor mechanic boy. 🥺 He grew up with no support system—a dead dad, a cruel bitch of a mom, and an older brother who treated him like shit and is now rotting in prison for drugs and murder. He lives alone in a trailer park that's a little rundown. Despite all that, Mav turned out to be a good man—sweet, caring, hardworking, all grease-stained and soft-hearted. 💖 He’s been pining after Skye forever, but in his head, Skye’s too good for him. (Spoiler: he’s wrong 🤭)

Skye (Omega) — My brilliant, sassy little nerd. 🤓 Virgin. Dreamer. The guy finally had enough of being untouched and decided to… let’s just say, solve that problem in a very unconventional way. 🤭 He’s the brainiac of his family, with big career dreams and plans to escape his hometown. He adores his (annoying but loving) four alpha brothers. And oh yeah—he’s been crushing on Mav since he was a teen, but turned a little bitter ‘cause Mav never seemed to notice him. Or did he? 😏

👨🏻‍🔧💘✨️ Mav, My Domestic Alpha King ✨️💘👨🏻‍🔧

Ughhh, I adore Mav!! 😍 He’s not just some hot grease-stained mechanic Alpha—he’s a straight-up doting, domestic dreamboat. The man is basically a walking checklist of boyfriend goals and I ate it up like candy 🍬😋

The sweet things he does for Skye that has me melting for him?
💖 Buys groceries – always making sure the fridge is stocked and Skye never goes hungry 🛒
💖 Feeds Skye – not just breakfast-making, but literally spoon-feeding him fruit like “open up, baby” 🍳🥓🍈 cue my ovaries exploding
💖 Hydrates Skye – glass of water in hand, and if Skye refuses? Boom, popsicle delivery. The man outsmarts dehydration 🍧
💖 Coffee order memorized. Mav knows exactly how Skye takes his coffee—gets it right every morning without Skye even asking. ☕️
💖 Changes the sheets – apologizes for the messy bed even though it’s from their own damn sexcapades 🛏 like??? Sir, that’s on you too.
💖 Washes Skye – shower duty king, scrubbing his man down with all the care in the world 🚿🧼
💖 Safety first – helmet secured, chin strap locked. Daddy Mav said no brain injuries on his watch 🏍

Tell me that’s not the softest, most swoony Alpha behavior ever?? Like?? Who gave him the right to be this sweet and this husband-coded?? Maverick is basically the blueprint for ”acts of service Alpha.” 🤌🏻✨️💘😍🫠

🤦🏻‍♀️💘 Idiots-to-Lovers, But Make It Skye’s Stubbornness 💘🤦🏻‍♀️

Quote (Skye):
Still, my stomach churns with the thought of his friends finding out that I’m the one he’s fucking. Forest’s nerdy little brother. How pathetic. I’m sure Maverick’s embarrassed as well. He probably wants to pretend he’s with someone else.

💭 Baby… no one’s calling you pathetic but you. Meanwhile, Mav is out here worshipping you like you hung the moon, and you’re convinced he’s embarrassed? Boy, please. 🙄😭

Quote (Skye):
Guys like Maverick don’t go for nerds like me… He’s only doing this out of obligation… The fact is, his life is here, and I plan on moving away as soon as I finish college.

💭 And there it is. Skye’s so laser-focused on his big dreams and his exit plan that he keeps shutting the door before Mav even knocks. He’s the type that won’t believe anything until he experiences it himself—so of course he pushes, pulls, and inevitably regrets. The “idiot” part? Yeah, it’s all him right here. 🫠🚪🌃

So yes, there’s mutual pining and misunderstandings. The amount of secret pining + crossed wires in this book COULD POWER A SMALL CITY. 💡 Both of them: “He doesn’t want me 🥺” while also acting like soulmates every damn scene. But honestly? It’s Skye’s ambition + refusal to bend that really hinders them. He has to trip over his own choices before realizing what’s in front of him. And Mav? Poor baby just takes it all, quietly proving himself every damn step. 💔😢
Idiots-to-lovers? More like Stubborn-omega-to-lovers. 😫😭

🔥🥵🍆🧅💦 The Spice: Filthy, Feral, and Knotted 💦🧅🍆🥵🔥

Quote (Skye):
“Come around my tongue,” Maverick says, thrusting it back inside of me and making me cry out, slick leaking down my thighs. He laps at it, thrusting in and out of me, his hand moving between my legs and stroking me. It’s enough to have me falling over the edge, my cum dripping down his hands. When I finally turn around I see Maverick licking his digits, his pupils blown out, his face wet from my mess.

💭 Sir. SIR. You cannot just casually spit filth like that and then lick your fingers like dessert 🫠🍦 Skye’s glasses crooked, his legs shaking, Maverick with his face wet and pupils blown out—this scene is pure pornographic poetry. 😩💦

Quote (Skye):
My body warms and I grind back against him, fucking against his knot and making Maverick growl.
“Skye.”
“Oh gods, please. More!”
“I can’t, not with you stuck—fuck! Skye!”
I stand up and force my ass to take it, his knot popping in and out of my rim. “Yes. Yes. Yes!” I cry out, my eyes closed, my head pressed right against his chest, his hands holding me up.
“This is too much, Skye. Oh fuck!”
I don’t stop. I just take his knot inside of me over and over. It’s driving him crazy. I can sense it, the change in him. More feral, more unhinged.

💭 And then THIS 🤯. As if the tongue wasn’t enough, now we’ve got SKYE RIDING THAT KNOT LIKE HE’S POSSESSED while Maverick snaps his teeth and loses his mind?? The growls, the nails, the sheer unhinged chaos—holy fuck. 😳🐾🍆🧅🔥

This isn’t just spice. This is a religious experience. A pearl-clutching, glasses-fogging, “I NEED TO LIE DOWN” kind of scene. Maverick didn’t just break the bed—he broke me. 👏🏻😭

📱🚫 The Mysterious Blocked Numbers 🚫📱

One thing that seriously bugged me? 👀 Mav and Skye finding out their numbers were blocked on each other’s phones… like??? HELLO?? Who the hell did that?! 😫

You can’t just be vague about something that major and then never explain it! 😤 Was it a family member? Those shady pack members? Some glitchy phone moment? Divine intervention?? I NEED ANSWERS. 🤨🫠😮‍💨

Cora really dangled that little mystery and just… left it there. Ma’am, I’m nosy. Don’t play with me like this. 🙃 👁👄👁

📝 TLDR 📝

Give this one a go if you’re into:
👨🏻‍🤝‍👨🏼 MM Omegaverse dynamics: knotting, heat, mating bond, the whole feral package
👨🏻‍🔧 An Alpha mechanic who’s hot, doting, and husband-coded as hell
👓 A nerdy, ambitious Omega with big dreams (and big misunderstandings)
💔 Angst from secret crushes, “I’m not good enough for him” spirals, and pining galore
🫠 Idiots-to-lovers energy (heavy on Skye’s stubbornness)
🥵 Four-alarm spice with A LOT of filthy hot scenes
💕 Found family feels, protective siblings, and best-friend’s-brother tension

Quotes: ⚠️ Spoilers ⛔️

“We need to get you home. Just five more minutes and I’m all yours.”
“Not my home. Your home.”
“Yeah, Skye. My home. I’ll keep you nice and full of my cum. But we need to get there first.”
“Yes. Yes, I want to be full.”
-
“I know it’s going to be a long few days. Like you said. If you want to ask another alpha…”
“Don’t even fucking suggest it.”
-
Do you know where my phone is?”
“Here, I plugged it in so it’s charged.”
“Thank you. How kind.”
“I live to serve you.”
-
I don’t ache when I’m with him, I think as I doze off.
I don’t feel so alone.
-
“He’s mine,” Mav says.
“He marked?” Red asks, and Mav’s hands tighten around me.
“He’s. Mine.”
-
When Mav turns toward me, rage fills his face.
“I can smell you. You’re fucking wet.”
“That may or may not be pee,” I murmur, trying to be funny, but it falls flat.
“It’s your fucking slick. I know what it smells like, Skye. What it tastes like.”
-
“You smell like sex. That better not be from him. It better be because of me. Have you been fucked since? Has anyone been inside you? That shithead, Red?”
“What? No. Of course not. Just you.”
-
“Say it. Who owns you?”
“You. Just you.”
-
“You’re so…fucking hot. I can’t fucking stand it.”
“You think I’m hot?”
“You’re smart, Skye, and you can’t figure this out?”
“I don’t know if I’m smart about this. There’s a reason I was a virgin until twenty.”
-
Gods, send help. I do not look good naked. I swear these online porn stars make it look easy. My nude pics make me look anything but hot and spicy. Honestly, I look like a poached chicken.
-
“It feels different this time.”
“It feels right. You and me.”
“Yes.”
-
“I’m sorry I’ve caused so much drama. I know Forest just thinks he’s protecting me. But I can make my own choices. And being in heat…well, I only want to spend it with you.”
“I know. I couldn’t stand it if you went to someone else. I know things won’t work out in the long run, but…I’m happy to be here with you now.”
-
When life gives you lemons, fuck the hell out of that lemonade.
-
“What the fuck are you doing?”
“I was getting ready to go to bed.”
“On the couch?”
“Yeah. I mean, I didn’t want to invade your space…”
“Get your ass in my bed, Skye. You’re my fucking mate and you need this.”
“For the bond.”
“Yeah, for the fucking bond.”
-
“What about you?”
“I don’t need anything, just want my mate happy.”
-
Skye has been a year-long obsession, and not one I’m easily going to get over anytime soon. It doesn’t help that we’re mated now and he’s never been so fucking hot. The way I can feel him weaving his way inside of me, how in tune we are.
The thought of ending this bond is making my heart crack.
I don’t know if I’ll survive it.
But it’s what he wants, I tell myself. He wants to finish college and have a successful career. He doesn’t want to be tied to an alpha mate. Especially one like me. One with really no other prospects than what I have now.
He deserves better.
-
“But you were interested in me?”
“Yeah. I’m interested in you.”
“You know…I thought you hated me.”
“It wasn’t hate. It was self-preservation. Trying not to perv on my best friend’s younger, much smarter brother. Didn’t think I stood a chance.”
-
“We need to get out.”
“Or else what?”
“Or else I’ll pull you onto my lap and impale you on my cock. Because I’m going fuck you while I still have you and if I have to rut you right here in this parking lot, I will. Because you’re mine, Skye. You’re fucking mine.”
-
I want to get him off over and over. I’m obsessed with him, his taste, the way he feels around me.
-
“No one’s ever stood up for me before.”
“No one?”
“No one but you.”
-
The knot inside of him almost seems to swell as he writhes on it, panting and moaning, and when I come again, it’s almost like I’m trying to impregnate him. Like I’m trying to spill directly into his womb. Even though I know that’s not possible, it’s still hot to think about.
-
“You can call me. If you need me. I can be there for you.”
“I don’t want to bother you with it. It’s my problem, not yours.”
His forehead gently hits mine. “I don’t mind, Skye. I really don’t. I’d love to be there for you. If you need me.”
“You shouldn’t have to do that. Drive all that way…not for me.”
“I’d travel the world to get to you. You just need to call.”
-
“Mav. He won’t wake up. He’s not waking up. What the fuck happened to them? What did you do to him?”
“He took it the worst. Seems he loved you more than you knew.”
-
How it all began in that dirty bathroom stall. How it ended. How I used to have him and now I don’t.
And the worst part of it all is knowing that I made that choice.
Me.
And now I have to live with it.
-
Because during the time we were together, I fell in love.
-
I haven’t fucked anyone since him. Since he chose to break the bond. Being near him still hurts, but it hurts more to be away from him.
-
We should never have broken that bond. I should have fought harder.
I should have fought for him.
But I didn’t want to tie him down. I didn’t want him to feel stuck with me.
-
When Skye is finally at my doorstep, I let out a sigh of relief. He’s home.
With me.
-
“You’ve lost too much weight.”
“I know.”
“How’s school?”
“I’m not doing well there either. Grades aren’t great.”
“Skye.”
“I thought I wanted freedom, but I miss you. I miss what we had. And now the break was all for nothing. I’m failing at life. I’m failing at school. And I hurt. I ache. I miss you, Mav. I fucking miss you.”
“Skye-light.”
-
“You’re beautiful. You’re perfect. I love you.”
“Mav. Are you serious?”
“Mhm. I loved you when you didn’t even notice me.”
“Mav, I’ve always noticed you. I’ve had a crush on you for years. When I was just a kid, and you didn’t look my way.”
That makes my chest constrict. “Shut up.”
“I’m serious. I just thought you didn’t like me, or at least didn’t notice me. Which bothered me. It made me resentful to know I could never have you. And then…the glory hole. The heats. We were mated. Everything changed.”
“The day we found out we were mates, all my dreams came true. All of them.”
For the first time in weeks, I feel alive. I feel whole.
It was him. It was always him.
-
“I love you. I want to be near you. Always. And if that means I work at a friend’s shop for a while, I will. My work isn’t much anyway. I can get hired anywhere.”
“No. Don’t say that. Don’t talk about yourself like that. You’re more. You do things that people need. You provide a service. You’re talented. You’ve always said I’m smart, that I’m going places, but you are too. I don’t think you realize it, but you are. In your own way, you’re fucking genius, Mav. You’re enough.”
“I love you. I love who you are. Inside and out.”
“You shouldn’t say such nice things about me. I have a past. A mom who is shit, a brother in jail, a dad who’s dead…”
“I don’t care. You’re not them. You’re Maverick. Mine. You’re fucking mine, and I love you.”
-
He’s my first, my one, my only.
-
Maverick kisses the mark on my skin, and something inside of me flares.
“Mates,” I say, and he growls against me.
“Mates.”

Wow... I completely devoured this story. Skye and Maverick have incredible chemistry, and watching them navigate their intense connection—dealing with the tricky fallout of their pit stop encounter while trying to deny their feelings—made this story so intensely addictive and impossible to put down.

I love how both Skye and Maverick are enamored with each other but are too afraid to admit their feelings, which creates this dance as they talk around their emotions while remaining completely devoted to each other physically. The forbidden element of falling for your brother's best friend is great, on top of the omegaverse aspects, which already create such great complications for this unlikely pair.

Another great aspect of this story is the omegaverse element. I appreciate how the world-building was handled and the primal nature and connection between an alpha and omega, especially when it comes to bonds. Both Skye and Maverick go on an intense journey together, and I couldn’t get enough of their story. I hope there’s more from this world. I couldn't get enough of it.

I ATE THIS UP!!!! Big spoons full. And if there was more, I would’ve gone for more.

“Need you,” I moan. “Need you.”
“Yeah, baby. I’m here, Skye-light. I’m here,” he says groggily.

It was a fuck fest. It was pretty predictable. And it also had the usual OTT ridiculous drama Cora writes so well. Again, I ATE IT ALL UP!!

“He took it the worst. Seems he loved you more than you knew.”

And like always. There were way too many intriguing side characters for her to not make this a series. Can’t wait.

Skye + Maverick

I enjoyed this. I really did. But it's just not a 5 star for me. it got to the point where it felt very repetitive. Where they just had a cycle of "we can't be together. It won't work. Lets fuck." Rinse and repeat 32667488 times. I loved them as a couple. They are so adorable and hot together. The chemistry was 🔥. Just needed more variety in the plot.

"Yeah, baby. I'm here, Skye-light. I'm here."

And just like that, I have a new favorite omegaverse book. I absolutely loved Skye and Maverick right from the start. This was impossible to put down, I completely devoured it. The main couple, the side characters, the heat 🥵 🥵 everything about this was great. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, hoping we get more stories from this world!

Tropes: alpha/omega, forced proximity, Brother's best friend, opposites attract
Feels: 3/5
Steam*: 3/5
Kinks: knotting, semi public sex, marking
Angst: low
HEA: yes
Pairing: MM
Triggers/potential icks/content warnings/representation: virgin/manwhore, bad parents, third act break up
Cheating between MCs: No
Any cheating: No
Other person drama: once they hook up, neither one of them are with anyone else. There are a lot of references to Maverick's past sexcapades - I thought the references were excessive and took away from the romance. Other Alphas were also interested in Skye so there were some jealousy moments.

4 stars

Skye is 20. He's smart, small, wears glasses and he's a bit of a nerd. He's the only Omega in a family of alpha brothers that are older than him, so he's been sheltered. He's a virgin and doesn't want to be anymore. He decides to go to a well known glory hole and slake his horniness anonymously, because he thinks he's too unattractive to pull someone. Unbeknownst to him on the other side of the wall is Maverick, his brother's best friend and the guy he's crushed on growing up.

Maverick is older, though it never says how old. He's a big motorcycle riding Alpha. Secretly he's been crushing on Skye too, basically in love with him for the past year. But he won't do anything because of his friendship with Skye's brother. Maverick is a man w**** and regularly hooks up at the glory hole and sex clubs. He didn't deliberately end up on the other side of that wall, but he sure enjoys it, so he feels guilty and responsible for Skye. They agree it should be a one-time thing and walk away, but then they run into each other and can't help themselves. And the next thing they know they've accidentally formed a mating Bond and have to figure out a way to break it, but do they really want to? The more time they spend together the deeper their connection gets.

This was a nice low angst fast burn book. I liked the heat, the possessiveness, and how emotionally wrecked they were over each other. It was nice that they weren't with anyone else even during the periods where they tried to stay away from each other. I like that Maverick fell first and that Skye was perfect to him and out of his league in his eyes. Maverick taking care of Skye and calling him nicknames was sweet. The third act break up made me cry. There were some other potential couples for future books that had some promising tension.

I think the book missed some opportunities to be deeper and more meaningful. Maverick could have slowed down on his weekly sex club trips during that year that he was supposedly crushing so hard on Skye. His friend Owen was like, Maverick can't stop talking about you, he's so hung up on you, but that doesn't ring terribly true juxtaposed against all the references to Maverick's sexcapades. There were too many references to Maverick's sexcapades with omegas for his connection with Skye to really feel as special. Side note, I'm not a fan of the Virgin / man w**** trope. It would have been more meaningful if Maverick had protectively followed Skye to the glory hole and deliberately hooked up with him out of longing and possessiveness, not wanting him to hook up with someone else. Instead it was just an accidental hookup. Maverick and Skye did not have good communication, leading to their third act break up, I like to see better communication in a couple so that they seem like they could have a healthy relationship long-term.

Some notable moments:

"“Fuck,” he murmurs, his nostrils flaring, and then he’s moving, pushing me up against the wall and grabbing on to my ass. He hefts me up into his arms and drags his nose across my neck. “You smell like sex. That better not be from him. It better be because of me.” A whimper escapes me. “Oh gods.” His cock drags against my own and my entire body trembles with pent-up need. “Have you been fucked since?” he asks angrily. “Has anyone been inside you? That shithead, Red?” “What? No. Of course not. Just you.” He lets out a relieved breath and then sets me down."

"I huff, feeling chastised like a child, and stomp toward the public restrooms. It’s a one-person bathroom, and he follows me inside. I don’t even have a chance to tell him that I can do it myself. The click of the lock being turned has me freezing and then he’s behind me, his hands grabbing on to my hips. I let out a groan as he pulls me into him, his fingers undoing my fly, tugging the zipper down far too slowly. “Thought you were going to clean me up,” I groan, and he buries his face in my neck."

"“I thought I wanted freedom,” he says as he leans into me, “but I miss you. I miss what we had. And now the break was all for nothing. I’m failing at life. I’m failing at school. And I hurt. I ache. I miss you, Mav. I fucking miss you.” “Skye-light.” My lips trail up to his wet cheeks, and I wipe them away as he continues, my heart swelling as he speaks. “I didn’t mean to fall for you,” he whispers. “I didn’t, but I did. And that’s why it hurts so bad. I think I love you.” I freeze, and my eyes meet his, our noses brushing, our breath puffing against each other. “You think?” I rasp. “No. Fuck. I don’t mean that. I mean, I know. I love you, Mav.”"

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

Do you hate dumb nicknames? Well, may I present to you… ‘Skye-light’. Jesus I want to knock off 1 whole star for that nonsense alone. Anywho, on to more important matters. This romance didn’t feel very romance-y at all. It was more of an erotica that tried to masquerade as romance. I’m thoroughly disappointed. It’s all spice and no substance. It’s not cute, funny, sweet or any other cutesy word you can imagine up. I was so bored and kind of wished I had just said screw this and DNF it. I dk if I’ve ever given a Cora Rose book anything less than 3 stars. Wtf happened here?

I honestly didn’t expect there to be this much sex in the book 😈 – and even though I’m no stranger to the omegaverse world, I was still surprised. But let me be clear: it’s not a negative at all. Every scene was hot, steamy, and kept me hooked. What really took me by surprise was Mav’s character – I thought he’d be your typical alpha macho type, but instead he turned out to be the sweetest golden retriever boyfriend 💛🐺. Romantic, caring, and absolutely adorable. Total heart-stealer!

If I’m being picky, I did feel like the plot leaned a bit too heavily on the sex–house dynamic. I would’ve loved a bit more worldbuilding to balance it all out. And yes, I’m still waiting for that forest scene 👀🌲🔥. Also, the chemistry between the MC’s dad and Jax?? I saw you two flirting 😏😏 and I need more of that energy.

Overall, the book is light, fun, and seriously spicy – the kind of guilty-pleasure read that makes you blush and grin at the same time 💕.

Pit Stop is a non-shifter omegaverse romance story about Skye and Maverick.

Skye is an omega and the youngest in his family, with his four older brothers all being alphas. He is on the nerdy side and very smart, concentrating on his studies in college with big plans for his future. Maverick is an alpha who works at a garage, and also happens to be best friends with Skye’s brother Forest.

When Skye makes a decision to lose his virginity, he plans to do it anonymously behind a glory hole at the Pit Stop. He was not expecting the guy he ended up hooking up with to be Maverick. He also wasn’t expecting to go into heat, but Maverick helps take care of Skye. These two were so incredibly hot together and their chemistry was amazing.

We see that both Skye and Maverick are too scared to admit their feelings for each other. I wanted to shake them both and yell at them to just communicate! These two were crazy for each other. I loved how Maverick took care of Skye and was possessive of him. And I loved how Skye defended Maverick and wanted him to know he was more than enough. Overall, I really enjoyed Skye and Maverick’s story and hope we get more from this omegaverse in the future.

I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review.

This was good and spicy, a really fast read. I had a great time, it was fun to read and the angst was on the minimal side.

BUT, it is absolutely not groundbreaking. If you’ve read any ABO BL manga, then you’ve read this book. This is your typical plot line with no surprises, and I’m not mad about it. It was well executed, there was a bit of repetition but all in all, I still really enjoyed it. Everytime we got Maverick’s POV I giggle like a school girl.

My review:

Honestly, I don’t have much to say. If you’re looking for a good plot, with lots of character development .. this is not it.

It’s mostly smut, lots of heats, slick and knotting. If that’s what you’re in the mood for, I wish you an happy reading lol

Kinda ok. Just didn’t feel any strong attachment to it. One of those books that you read and when once you finished it, turns out you didn’t really cared that much. I highly appreciate the fresh takes for the omegaverse.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ I’m gonna need more books from these brothers asap.

This was a different take on omegaverse done beautifully. As someone who has read a lot of OV and PNR, it was refreshing reading this unique storyline. I love Cora and omegaverse so I had no doubt this would be a favorite.

I laughed and cried. Emotional men just do it for me. And Skye having four older alpha brothers and his dad, they were so sweetly protective.

I love how close to the wolf these omegas and alphas were. Most books you have one or the other- shifters or human alpha/omega. This was a good combo that was so enjoyable.

The spice was so spicing. I was exhausted for Skye and Mav after all of those heats! Mav was perfect. He didn’t push his emotions onto his Skye light. They danced around some miscommunication a bit but I loved how the story evolved and concluded.

I love how sex positive everyone was in this book. Even when the alpha brothers could smell it, they knew it was necessary. No shame thrown. “Now that I’m not a virgin, I’m going to go out and have sex with everyone.”

I’m so hoping we have more stories in the world. I need more from Forest and also more from Owen and *hopefully* River soon!

Thank you for this arc!!

3.5 stars

I’m really torn about giving this 3 or 4 stars. It kept my attention so I’ll round it up to 4 but I really feel it is less than that. Maybe I’ll change it eventually.

This started strong but it took a different direction and kind of lost me. There’s a lot of sex but it’s probably the best part of the book! There needed to be communication but then we wouldn’t have a story. Actually, I don’t know how the author got a full story out of such a weak storyline.

I liked the characters, they saved this book for me. Skye and Maverick are so right together and I wish they just accepted their attraction sooner. I really loved Skye’s brothers and father and Owen who becomes Skye and Mav’s friend. I don’t know if there are any other stories planned but I can see some possibilities.

This is a quick read and pretty predictable but it was pretty entertaining so I’ll keep the 4 stars for now.

📝 REVIEW & THOUGHTS:

“When life gives you lemons, fuck the hell out of that lemonade.”

Two dumb guys who are pining, and won’t admit they’re in love with each other.

I really liked this, had fun buddy-reading this story with my lovely friend Belle. I swooned, my heart melted a bit, I got a bit sad and mad at times. But in the end I was satisfied :)

I loved how caring and sweet Mav was. I hope this gets turned into a series. There are a few side characters I’m curious about.

Read this only if you’re in the mood for lots of smutty scenes and tender moments.

Ugh Cora Rose is one of my favourite authors but this was a total miss for me. I felt like I was thrown into a world that needed a LOT more explanation and development, especially since omegaverse is a new concept for her (at least among her published works). I've read OV books before but each author creates different social rules - are there shifters or not, are betas a thing or not, how rare are omegas, the social rules, etc, so it still needs some set up for the reader.

I will say before I start dogging on it, the spice was good, I always like how Cora writes spice, no notes other than there was too much in relation to how little plot there was. The scene where Skye was trying to take nudes and described himself as a naked chicken was hilarious. (although I feel like Mav's response to them was...strange? Did he even get them? I know he says he saw them later but like...weird.)

My main gripe is that I think it really needed some setup before the glory hole situation, especially because the dynamic between Maverick/Skye was already established but never explained to the reader until much later. There should have been some interactions to show that Skye had a crush on Mav, Mav seemed annoyed about his presence and Forest was trying to keep Skye away from Mav. Also what made Skye that desperate to lose his virginity that he went to a glory hole? Not knowing any of this totally took away the impact/shock of them having sex.

Also Forest was a piece of shit. Mav is his best friend and yet he literally badmouths him whenever he can? Like he is constantly saying that he's trailer trash, Skye shouldn't get involved with him because Skye is like super smart because glasses and studying, Skye is going places (also never explained where these places are until much later). He acts less like a protective older brother and more like a frenemy to Mav. There were also a lot of family members and maybe because this is a one off and not a series, but I feel like they did not have the same depth as her other books. One of the things I love about Cora's writing is she always fleshes out every single random person in her books and I didn't feel like that was the case here.

I think if maybe the first third of the book was backstory and establishing relationships, and the glory hole thing happened right after, it would have hit a lot harder. I don't know who anyone is. Their mom died I guess? Also WHO THE FUCK We don't find out it's just "probably one of those shifters trolling lol" and it kind of seems important? And the whole C plot of Mav possibly being a shifter is NEVER EXPLORED. Like why even include shifters. Also final point I'll whine about, Red was just a random plot device and just straight up disappeared except when he maybe boned Forest off screen. Ugh what a mess. Cora, I love you bunches, your books are an instant read, but goddamn this was not it for me. I'll go back to patiently waiting for Bane's book.

Skye and Maverick

— omegaverse (no mpreg)
— glory hole
— virgin MMC
— brother’s best friend
— possessive MMC
— tattooed MMC
— pierced MMC
— pining
— miscommunication
— grumpy x sunshine
— accidental bonding
— claiming/marking
— knotting

My first omegaverse read, and this baby was spiiiiiicy.

Maybe it’s normal in omegaverse, but I was really not digging how flippant people were talking about fucking other people though, and how much Maverick got around while apparently secretly pining for Skye.

Also, why was Forest such a jerk to his “best friend” constantly telling Skye that he was too good for Maverick?Again, maybe it’s normal in omegaverse, but I didn’t understand why there was so much concern about who was good enough or not good enough for the other. Just because Skye was in college, and Mav worked in a garage. . .

The third act seemed . . . Unnecessary. They do this terrible, horribly painful thing, and THEN Maverick gets all possessive and wants to keep Skye. But he couldn’t have spoken up at all before?? I just feel like if they fucked the smallest bit less and had a single conversation nearly all of this could have been avoided.

I wish we could have seen more of their actual relationship and feelings developing. I feel like I enjoyed the idea of this more than the execution. So many things didn’t feel like they were followed up on. Like who blocked their numbers after they broke the bond??

I am intrigued with some of Skye’s brothers, and I’d be interested in reading their books if they get them. But this one fell a bit flat for me.

So I finally picked up this book after it sat on my TBR for ages and… whew, what a ride! 💫

Skye is a sweet, nerdy, inexperienced omega who just wants to ditch his V-card at Pit Stop, a seedy little glory-hole joint. Harmless plan, right? WRONG. Because on the other side of that wall is Maverick—Skye’s brother’s best friend, a hot Alpha he’s been crushing on for ages.

Things start off spicy—I mean, if you can ignore the seedy Pit Stop and how it’s described—then BOOM, Skye goes into heat mid-hookup. Once Mav recognises who he was dicking through the glory hole he freaks out because, hello, if any other Alpha catches that scent, Skye is toast. So what does Mav do? He turns from fuckboy to knight in shining… denim. He scoops Skye up and rushes him to his trailer, where they ride out the heat. And let me tell you, “riding” is an understatement. 😏🔥

Fast-forward to Heat #2 (because once wasn’t enough). This time? Accidental bond bites. Yep, we’re now in oops-we-mated territory. Maverick tries to keep it chill, even avoids the mating mark zone… and still ends up biting Skye so many times( with Skye’s joyful consent of course ) they have an accidental mating. Maverick is panicking because this wasn’t the plan. Skye is confused, needy, and emotionally tangled in Mav. They can’t stay away from each other, so we get the glorious forced proximity phase.

The first half? Basically heat + Maverick being all soft dominance and “let me take care of you.” And did he take care of him. 😏 Skye is screaming “Alpha me up” every five minutes. Basically, they’re in heat even between the heats. 😆😂😂

But let me tell you—if you came for plot, you’ll have to sit tight because the first half is just banging, biting, and bonding. The chemistry? 🔥🔥🔥

Now… the cringe department:

See this quote:

“Mav, did you come here to fuck omegas in heat?” I ask when I turn a corner and see another couple fucking against a wall.
“Yeah, omegas come here for sex. Some are in heat, others are just horny. And the alphas are here to find a nice hole to fuck.”
“And that’s why you came?”
“Mhm.”

🤨🤨 I mean, I know Mav is no virgin, but it’s mentioned he frequently visited this club and the glory hole. And “a nice hole to fuck”?!

Excuse me, SIR? Pack your Alpha ass and go. We did NOT need that energy in this house.

And then this little gem:

“I pause and watch as an omega on his hands and knees arches his back, offering his ass to anyone willing to fuck him. I can smell his slick, the scent of his pheromones lingering in the air. A man pushes past us, a growl on his lips. He falls to the floor and pushes his cock inside, making the other man cry out.”

( I hate how the omegas are portrayed in this book! Senseless needy creatures 😒😒 )

And what bugs me is these parts do NOT match with how Mav is. These pieces of unnecessary information pull me right out of my headspace.

Also….
Skye acts like an idiot a lot—this pissed me off too. He keeps thinking he needs to move to the city, be different from what small-town society sees omegas as. He’s smart and has always wanted to move, and he’s sure Mav will not go! Like… how do you know??? Did you spend two seconds—between being knotted to oblivion—to ASK him that? The miscommunication gets on my nerves. So they decide to break the bond, both assuming it’s for the best. And Skye’s loving family? Totally supportive of this!! Yeah, the family is also a bunch of idiots. But Skye—how dare Skye insist on breaking the bond like that?!

Both of them suffer HORRIBLY, and I’m over here screaming: “COMMUNICATE, YOU FOOLS!” So Attie—the guy who knows how to sever the bond—steps in, and they go through the painful ceremony. Let me share this piece:

“Attie runs a hand through his hair, his cowboy hat missing. ‘He took it the worst. Seems he loved you more than you knew.’
My chest twinges, and I press against it. Oh gods, this is all my fault.
‘He’ll be fine, though. Just needs a minute, I suspect. Never had anyone die on me before.’
I press my cheek to his chest and curl up against him. We’re not bonded anymore.”

💔😢 This scene was so heartbreaking. I was GUTTED.

Now here’s the thing: I LOVED their emotional connection and chemistry—5 STARS in that department. I did have a few gripes , but the sheer heat, the bond angst, and the way these two crawl back to each other? Loved it!!

So, overall? Rounded rating: 4 stars. It almost dipped to 3 because of those annoying bits, but honestly, Cora Rose’s ability to build that irresistible pull between characters saved it. And let’s be real—I’d totally read the next book in this series if the other characters get one.

• Skye: 💙 💙 💙💙 (sweet but you know what my issues are with this guy!)
• Maverick: 💙💙💙💙 (soft Alpha Hottie but those cringey parts of info)
• Angst Level: 💔💔💔

✨ Spicy, angsty, emotional damage with recovery, and I enjoyed every second. Never felt like stopping.

***ARC Review***

This is my honest and voluntary review.

I read my first omegaverse in spring of this year. It was a novella and I was intrigued. I’m also a fan of the brother’s best friend trope, so I was excited to see this next title from Cora Rose. Note there is no MPREG in this story. Skye has one goal in mind. He wants to lose his V-card before his senior year of college. He isn’t picky about how and actually decides to visit a glory you know what as a means to achieve his goal. Skye unknowingly gets with his brother’s best friend and their encounter kickstarts a strong desire for more time with one another.

Maverick and Skye have a stronger connection than they think. There bond goes beyond the physical. It was really endearing watching them slowly come to the realization of how much they mean to each other. There is a lot of spice in this book, but there’s also a lot of honest conversation and reflection. I really enjoyed the pacing of the book and in true Rose fashion - the dialogue and cast of characters are top tier. (I’d be interested to see if any of Skye’s brothers get their own book). This story will captivate you from start to finish. There’s a little bit of conflict, but the MCs manage to overcome any obstacles and obtain their HEA.

This book was good, however I don’t understand the point of having heats if they can’t get pregnant. Also, why are they every month? If this had mpreg it would’ve been better.

DNF @ 40% - this is rough. This is does not feel like the same author as the one who wrote Whit.
