In this present-day tale of magic, Irish-born Arianna Sullivan is raised in the States following her mother’s mysterious death. On the night her father dies, he appears to her with cryptic instructions to return to her birthplace. Upon her arrival in Ireland, she finds her fate intricately intertwined with that of a tall, dark and enigmatic Irishman: a man bearing an uncanny resemblance to someone she grew up with. In her dreams.
Caleb MacNamara is the Chief Brehon of the Túatha de Danann. Plagued by a primeval enchantment, the males of their race are forbidden to mate with a mere mortal women—the penalty for doing so, the woman’s gruesome death. After three thousand years, the evil geis has reached its deadline. And unless a mortal woman appears and succeeds in an impossible quest, a demonic abomination will be released upon all humankind.
When Caleb meets Arianna, he recognizes the little mortal as the woman who has haunted his nights. Could the lucid dreams mean she’s the woman foreshadowed by the sacred scrolls? And have the Fates chosen him to champion her against Anathema, the Beast shackled by a divine slumber, buried deep within the bowels of the earth? If so, he knows he’ll have to control his ravening lust for the girl...or risk killing her himself.
This was a delight. Breathtaking descriptions and a delicious blend of Irish folklore and paranormal romance. Loved the intricate world-building and both the fun scenes with Arianna and her friends and the simmering sexual tension between her and Caleb. Perfect if you love Alpha males and steamy Irish heroes!

Dark Enchantment by Kathy Morgan is a romantic fantasy/paranormal novel with an Irish twist. It’s a sexy romp with an alpha male character that will keep those pages turning. Plus, the setting is breath-taking, and the fantasy takes on an interesting twist. This is not quite the type of romance I usually pick up, but I found myself enthralled with the romantic tension and ended up devouring the book.
Arianna Sullivan is an Irish-born woman who lived most of her life in the U.S. after her mother’s tragic death. On the night that her father dies, she receives a vision telling her to return to her birthplace. With she gets to Ireland, she has a run-in with a familiar face: a man who she has been dreaming about for years. Caleb MacNamara belongs to an immortal race who were plagued with the curse of killing any mortal women who they mated with. Of course, when Arianna shows up, things become complicated.
I adored the setting; the author did a fantastic job of taking the reader on a trip to Ireland. The chemistry between the characters was certainly spicy as well. The plot moved along well, though it started slow in the beginning. Once she reaches Ireland and the reader meets Caleb, the story really takes off. The fantasy lore was interesting and had a bit of a weird twist to it.
Overall, Dark Enchantment is a fun, sexy romance book. Even though I’m not super big into Irish-themed or fantasy/paranormal romances, I thought this was such a great read. The chemistry was amazing. The story was interesting. I liked the fact that the ending felt complete yet gave the reader a great nudge for Book 2. If you are looking for a great fantasy romance set in a beautiful place with a hot Irishman, I would highly recommend Dark Enchantment by Kathy Morgan.
This would not be my normal reading genre, but the superb story telling and strong characters made it a thrilling read. The descriptions of the West of Ireland are stunning and the spiritual themes interwoven with tales of Gaelic legend were innovative and enticing. An excellent opening which will have the reader craving for the next instalment in the series.
I admit I was sceptical about Irish fairies but was instantly a fan after the first chapter. This authors way with words paints a beautiful story filled with mystery, intrigue, and a one of a kind love story. All of which lead to the kind of story that demands to be read in one sitting and will leave you pondering about the next book long after you re-re-read the last page. Warning audible loud gasps are expected after reading the last page. And asking did she really just leave it like THAT?!?
This slow-burn romance is a unique take on Irish folklore
Genre: Paranormal romance, magical realism POV: 3rd Person, alternating dual perspective in past tense Heat gauge: 🔥🔥🔥 (3/5)
Born in Ireland and raised in the States, Arianna recalled little of her birthplace. Her father never spoke of their homeland, or the incident that claimed her mother’s life. Yet she felt drawn to the place. Out of respect for her da’s wishes, she resisted the inexplicable pull until his deceased spirit tells her the time has come to learn the truth and meet her destiny. Crossing oceans, she entered a world of myth and magic with one dark, brooding Irishman as her guide. A man who bore an uncanny resemblance to the mysterious stranger who had haunted her dreams for as long as she could remember.
Wow! I’m still fanning myself after enjoying the steamy tension between Arianna and Caleb. From the moment of their first encounter on deserted road in the middle of a storm, the chemistry was electric. Yet despite their obvious mutual attraction, it took time for the main characters to act upon their desires. This resulted in a delicious slow-burn build-up to their climax. In addition to a well-written romance plot, Morgan created a wonderful cast of characters and placed them in a beautifully detailed setting. I found her take on Irish folklore fascinating, and I look forward to reading the subsequent books in the series.
This is a must-read for all lovers of paranormal romance, especially if you love Irish mythology.
What a disappointment. The summary sounds so promising, as did the fact this got such high ratings.
The characters lacked depth. The plot had potential but fell short due to the writing, which felt wordy at times and the flow of the story was tedious. The dialogue felt unrealistic and annoyed me often. Everything about such a good story idea was poorly handled.
If I didn't have to finish this for book challenges, I'd have quit after the first few chapters.
I rated Dark Enchantment 5 stars because the suspense caught me from the beginning. Her writing as far as I am concerned, rates right up there with some of my favorite authors like Nora Roberts, Johanna Lindsey, Fern Michael's, etc.,. etc.,. Easy flow.
Awesome premise, great storyline, my favorite Tuatha de Dannaan but the delivery wasn't up to scratch. And I didn't really understand why would a heroine put up with all the crap the hero did to her not only without her permission but even against her express wishes!
This book pulls you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat! I held my breath through many chapters and can’t wait to dive into the next installment! Beautifully written and exciting!
The sexual anticipation and Irish folklore were done well. I’m not a huge fan of the whole overprotective/controlling dominant male hero trope, but I do like that Arianna at least called Caleb out on it sometimes.
An interesting read filled with suspense and mystery. It weaves together elements of the paranormal with folklore of Ireland. It's well written with great characters. It'll keep you hooked till the end.
I truely enjoyed Dark Enchantment and cant wait to read the next 2 books in this series. Is the world going to end? Whats rhe baby going to grow up to be? A hero? I hope so!!! Thank You!!!
It was going good until he just flipped a switch and all of a sudden wanted her. It was odd. Also, I didn't really care for the way it ended. It felt rushed to me.
This story was well written and it was a very good mix of love story with paranormal. I really enjoyed this book and would like to read the rest of them.
A well-written fantasy romance novel set in Ireland. Even though there were times I wanted to strangle the MC and the brooding LI--he went to the extreme--I enjoyed the story.
This book was laughable, and not in a positive way. There was nothing compelling about the main characters, the way the author develops the plot, or the writing style. The actual plot isn't bad, and in the hands of a more capable author may have produced a good book. This book does not deliver. The friends are shrewish and unbelievable, the main characters are wooden, the 'insta-love' between the love interests is poorly handled. The book's 'villain' is not developed AT ALL. Some revelations at the end of the book made me roll my eyes so hard I have eye strain.
My favorite bad quote in a book full of bad quotes captures my feelings perfectly.
"Wow. Was her head still attached? Surely, it had blown off out there somewhere amongst the galaxies."
You've spun a tale of magic and Gaelic poetry. I was looking through my list of acquired books, reading bits here and there, feeling frustrated that nothing was sticking until I read the first chapter of your book. It STUCK!! I read it in a day. Couldn't put it down. Book 2 ? I'm stuck again. I'll keep looking for the end to this lovely tale. Thanks again for a well spent rainy afternoon. Ginny
And then it all came back to Earth shattering sex and the One is someone else. Disappointed. I won't waste money on number two. I like my fantasy with more plot and less sexual tension.
This book had me from page one. Hot and steamy and truly enchanting. If you like romance, passion and supernatural read this one. You'll love the characters and share their frustrations along the way. Kathy Morgan is an author to keep on your list.
