Imprisoned. Drugged. Soul-Bound.

Far from the only home she’s ever known, surrounded by a Dark Court abandoned by the Gods, Max finds herself at the mercy of the cursed Dark Fae prince and a tyrant king wishing to mold her into a weapon of world domination. Her only hope of surviving long enough to escape her prison is the prince himself – her mate.

Kaden claimed her soul, betrayed her trust and shattered her heart. But now, Max must trust him because he’s tied their lives together, and is the only one who can keep her alive. Where one goes, the other follows – even in death.

Navigating court politics and their mutual distrust, past ghosts and hidden plans, the pair has to contend with a mounting war - and their combustive chemistry.

Just as Max begins to trust the heir again, Kaden loses his fight on his inner cursed soul, rendering him nothing more than the beast they all fear. Will Max choose to love the monster, save the Fae prince and their kingdom, or will she forsake them both for her freedom?

The Crown Of Shadows and Distrust is book 2 in The Blood Witch Chronicles which must be read in order. And if you haven’t started this series yet, what are you waiting for???

If you loved Beauty and The Beast and found yourself wanting your own beast…may I introduce you to Kaden. I don’t even have words to express how I feel about Kaden. I don’t want to give too much away but I’ll just say, everything he does, he does for Max, our FMC. Even when she hates him for it. But that hate banter is on point!!

There are secrets, betrayals, adventure, spice. The best found family. The best one liners that will have you melting. You will laugh, you will cry, you will sweat 🥵🥵🥵. And you will be feral for book 3!

“Gods, I want her and hate her, all in the same breath. Because of her, I’m like this: angry, uncontrollable, longing for a woman who won’t have me. My beast rallies for control and my shadows have a mind of their own”

The Crown of Shadows and Distrust, book 2 in the Blood Witch series.

This book picks up right where book 1 left off, with FMC Max being held in the dungeon, while also being drugged to prevent her powers from working. MMC Kaden is doing this to protect Max, but he cannot tell her everything, so Max resents and hates Kaden for what he has done and is doing to her. Once out of the dungeon, Max continues to be forced to do things, and her hatred for Kaden intensifies, while at the same time she has this annoying desire for him that she blames on the mate bond. As Max learns more about the secrets of the dark fae court, she begins to understand how much Kaden has truly done for her.

AHHHH talk about Beauty and the Beast, or Beast and Beast? type dark romance! First Max is literally Kaden's prisoner, she tries to escape, he chases after her, then they mend their issues and Max starts to re-fall for the beast. I love that Max continues with her fiery self, and doesn't give into Kaden easily. While Max hates and disobeys Kaden, Kaden similarly hates Max in for making him want her so much, while doing everything he can to protect her, even though she refuses to listen. Literally every move that Kaden and his siblings make are for a larger purpose, and once Max finds out, she is angry anew that they did not trust her. Granted, she did try to run away (proving why they didn't trust her yet), but Kaden hunted her down in the forest, where they had passionate hate sex. After the attempted escape, Max and Kaden's relationship starts to repair.

I love how strong of a character Max is, no matter what she is put through, she does not break, not for anyone. And Kaden, he will do literally anything for Max, and he does, allowing his beast out, which risks not only everyone's lives, but also his, but to save her, he did not hesitate. Max and Kaden are quite literally made for each other, needing each other's powers to control their own. This story slowly uncovers so many secrets that both the reader and Max are trying to understand, and it is such a fun ride. There are new characters in this story as well, some that are very unexpected! I cannot wait for the third book to see how the prophecy plays out with Max and Kaden.

Some fav quotes:
"Shuddering, I try not to show the desire that courses through me. Because as reverently as I hate him, how badly I hurt from his lies, how badly I want to be free of him, beg to find an escape, I don't. My body still craves him, and my heart mourns his love. I still want him."

"The hatred, I understand. I claimed her, took her soul and sewed it into my own. I'd be a bastard not to understand it. But what choice did I have?"

"Disgust and want war under my skin, and I fight the shudder of pleasure it evokes."

""If you wanted my heart, you only need to ask. I'd cut it out and hand it over to you without question.""

"Those blue eyes darken to black pits, fear warping into blinding fury and it warms my desolate heart. Give me her fury, her rage, her jealousy."

"Gods, I want her and hate her, all in the same breath. Because of her, I'm like this: angry, uncontrollable, longing for a woman who won't have me. My beast rallies for control and my shadows have a mind of their own, reacting to my emotional unrest."

""Is this what it'll take for you to trust me?" Red drips on to my hands, down my clavicle, between my breasts. "Then slice my throat, kitten. Make me bleed. I'll only bleed for you.""
""You've absolutely destroyed me, kitten. And I hate you for it.""

""You are my mate, my future queen. I told you once, I would kneel for you as long as you begged me for it. Now? The Gods couldn't keep me from kneeling for you. I just need you.""

Thank you so much to Grey's Promotions and the author for a copy of this book!

Honestly if I could give more than five stars for this I would.
The story picks up right from where Path of Blood and Betrayals ended so make sure you read that first.

This was the perfect continuation of Max and Kaden’s story. It starts with Max being held “prisoner” while drugged to dampen her powers. And it’s Kaden who is the culprit. He is only going this to protect her but Max is unaware so she is angry and heartbroken. Max is honestly my all time favourite MMC. Never knowing quite where she belongs but the growth from book one…..perfect. She is fierce and knows exactly what she wants (even if she goes about getting it in a chaotic way)
And Kaden……so much I can say about Kaden. He is the perfect cursed, shadow daddy royal. He truly loves Max and will do anything to protect her.
The story was beautifully written. The side characters were not just there for comedy purposes & I fell in love with the siblings. The plot moved along at a good pace and when it ended? Urgh I need book 3 now.

Ok now I need book 3 ASAP 😏😏.

This book continues where first book ended. I mean I thought that we’ll just simply read it like nothing big and all but holy cow how wrong I was. This book is as good as first one was. Like I couldn’t believe what I was reading. For a sec I thought I might just melt 🫠. The way this second book carried out it’s story and showed more of future. I’m hooked with this series. And I so badly need book 3 now like who can wait this long 😭. I just devoured this book. This is so good

This book picks right up where book one left off- Kaden did what was best for his queen to be even though she didn’t think so- she had her choice taken away from her and they both had to struggle with the consequences and come to terms with their new reality. Max felt such betrayal and that things were being kept from her- thinking she would ultimately be turned over to Kaden’s father. Things are definitely not that simple and the two of them have to navigate some major issues and Kaden has to keep Max there so he can win her back. That comes with its own challenges. On top of that he has to keep Max and his siblings safe from his father and that is no easy task- in this book you’ll find the slow burn, the enemies to lovers, unique magic, betrayals, hidden identity, prophecies, familiars, found family, fated mates- the whole nine yards! And all done very well!

I really enjoyed the story telling in this book- I loved the Kaden POVs of course! We saw lots of Fee and Reid and I was super happy about that. They are amazing characters. I wish we would have seen more of the Hadeon- such a cool familiar- maybe in book 3 😊. We got to know a lot more about Oslo in this book and I absolutely loved him. We all need an Oslo in our lives. Some major backstory about Kaden gets revealed in this book and it is INTENSE. We also get to see Max become a formidable woman who is NOT to be messed with. The support she got along the way does not go unnoticed by me- she finally get seen for HER by more than just Kaden. It was exactly what she needed to realize who she truly is. We also meet a new character that was a plot twist I did NOT see coming and I am so excited to see how things progress with them. There is still a lot of story to be told and I am here for it 100%!

I was feral for the second installment of the Blood Witch Series, and it did not disappoint! I love this spicy story of betrayal, yearning and love set in a court led by a tyrant King.

Picking up where book 1 ends, Max, the last blood witch, has been imprisoned, drugged and bound to the dark fae who betrayed her. Now trapped in the Dark Court, she finds herself in the middle of a coup where the King and the Heir want her to become a weapon no matter what she wants. As she navigates the dangers of the court and her conflicted feelings for Kaden, Max has to work with Kaden for her safety since he has tied their lives together - ‘where he goes, she goes—even into death’.

The tension between Kaden and Max hits a fever pitch as she releases feminine rage for having her choices taking away. I love how Max never backs down and stays fiery and strong throughout the entire book. She does not forgive Kaden easily, even if he did the things he did to keep her safe, and she is infuriated further when she realizes the larger purpose that Kaden and his brother, sister and uncle are working toward, but they were hiding it from her.

Kaden is equally frustrated that Max will not obey him, and he can’t stop wanting her. His character struggles between balancing his obsession and love for Max with his role as the Heir (and leader of a coup) and the constant threat of losing control and succumbing to his beast. I feel the interactions between the siblings and Kaden, as well as the relationships they develop with Max, added depth to the story, and enjoyed these scenes immensely.

The plot moves quickly, and I felt a constant feeling of suspense knowing that each page I turned could lead to a plot twist or new revelation. This beauty and the beast inspired story takes on a new perspective when both characters are beastly to begin with. With bonded mates, forced proximity, an arranged marriage, a morally grey shadow daddy MC, and a fierce FMC, this spicy dark romance will keep you anxiously turning the page and yearning for book 3!

If you're looking for an emotional rollercoaster of enemies-to-lovers, you won’t want to miss Book 2 in The Blood Witch Chronicles. I highly recommend having Book 1 fresh in your mind before diving into The Crown of Shadows and Distrust, as it picks up right where the first book left off - with our lovers now turned enemies once again. Max is locked away in the dungeons by Kaden, their love now twisted into a battlefield of royal politics and personal betrayal.

Where Book 1 gave us a slow burn, Book 2 ignites with sharp, hostile chemistry and plenty of venom-filled banter between Max and Kaden. Set against the backdrop of Kaden's royal domain, we get a deeper look into the treacherous world of the Dark Fae, where every ally is a potential enemy, and every move is part of a deadly game of power. As Kaden’s kingdom teeters on the brink of war, the political intrigue and the siblings’ dark history shape every decision.

But it’s not just the throne at stake – Max is still bound to the prophecy that’s been foretold. The claiming and heartbond between Max and Kaden play a significant role in deepening their dark, complicated relationship but also hold secrets that could unravel everything. As they’re drawn deeper into this high-stakes world, the twists and turns will leave you questioning who to trust and what fate awaits the main characters.

Like the first book, The Crown of Shadows and Distrust ends on a cliffhanger, leaving everything hanging in the balance - royal schemes, broken hearts, and a future full of uncertainty. You’ll be on the edge of your seat, desperate for Book 3 to find out what happens next.

Thank you, Grey’s Promotion and E.D Crowe for an opportunity to read this ARC.

I loved this book so much! I’m completely obsessed with this series and honestly can’t wait until the third one comes out. The story had me hooked from the first page, full of tension, heartbreak, and that perfect mix of darkness and hope. I adore the two main characters; their bond is complicated, emotional, and addictive in the best way. The Uncle and the siblings were also such standout characters, adding humor, warmth, and depth when things got intense.

The worldbuilding continues to blow me away. The different species, the magic, the curses, all of it feels so vivid. I want to know so much more about the past and everything that led to this moment. Max and Kaden’s relationship broke my heart and mended it over and over again. The ending left me desperate for more, and I can already tell book three is going to destroy me in the best possible way.

If you love emotional fantasy with high stakes, powerful characters, and that perfect touch of angst, this series is a must-read.

The dynamic of these two is complex and riddled wirh love/hate and it worked so well! It showed their evolution in a way that was dramatic and believable. Kaden putting himself at risk.to save her, that stuff always suckers me in to an mmc.

He speaks with such passion. It's neat how their powers ultimately complement the other. Theymeant to be butnits a rocky path and that's what great love stories are about. But it's also more than romance, since it juggles equal parts suspense. It's twisty and nuanced and builds naturally and intensely in all the best ways. A fiery couple with shades of Beauty and the Beast, I thoroughly was hooked!

Book 2 did not disappoint!

Picking up exactly where we left off Max and Kaden have a wild ride through her entry into the shadow court.
Fee and Reid remain absolutely amazing supportive characters. I love their relationship and their family dynamic. Also loved seeing how they all interact with their uncle Oslo.
We see more of Max‘s fiery spirit, and Kadens protective side as he does everything in his power to protect her. We see both characters change adapting to the bond.
While we are left with yet another cliffhanger, book 2 wraps up so magnificently!

This book continues from where the first book left off and oh my goodness, book 1 was good but book 2 was amazing and I can already tell that book 3 will be freaking incredible. I could not put this book down, everything was just put together so well. I loved the continued plot, the characters storylines, the details, the action, the heartbreak, the twists and turns, and last but not least the spice. All the characters were amazing as well, but Kaden and Max are everything, they literally have my heart. But to see how their journey continued after everything that happened in the first book was so intriguing and really kept me on my toes. I don’t know what else to say besides that I loved it!

This sequel destroyed me in the best possible way!!!

Book two in this dark, twisty romantasy series is pure emotional chaos — betrayal, longing, and impossible choices. Max and Kaden’s connection is everything: fierce, heartbreaking, and so addictive. Their bond walks the line between love and ruin, and I was obsessed every step of the way.

We get to dive deeper into the world of the Dark Fae (equal parts tragic and fascinating), and the tension? Off the charts. 🩸

And Fee and Reid? Absolute sibling GOALS — they brought so much heart to the story!

You’re telling me I have to wait until March for book three?!?! I am not okay. 😭

I absolutely loved, loved this book! I’m so thankful I got to read it right after finishing the first one because that cliffhanger was killing me! Now I seriously need book 3 like yesterday.

This book gives you everything — love, hate, dominance, submission, fated mates, political intrigue, a strong FMC, morally black MMC, betrayal, and those “did that just happen?!” moments. Everything you could possibly want in a book is right here.

The first one was amazing, but this one did not disappoint. Sometimes sequels lose a little spark, but not this one — it was just as good, maybe even better! I’m obsessed with the whole “touch her and die / touch him and die” energy, and the friends-to-lovers mixed with a little enemies-to-lovers vibe was perfection.

If you want a true enemies-to-lovers read with passion, tension, and writing that pulls you in from the first page, read this series. It’s phenomenal. I’ll read anything this author writes at this point — she’s that good!

Tropes:
💫 Fated mates
💔 Hurt/Betrayal/Comfort
🐾 FMC who is tabby
🖤 Morley black MMC
⚔️ Touch her/him and die
🔥 Enemies to lovers
🏛️ Political intrigue

The Crown of Shadows and Distrust was everything I wanted it to be and more! The plot continues to thicken, the characters have grown from book one but they still remain true to who they are and again the ending has me needing MORE!!

Max and her struggle of never belonging hits me every time. Kaden was scrumptious in this one. His smug, nonchalant vibes are everything to me. Especially because we know his heart. I love the bond that pulls them together but aside from that, they have the hottest trauma bonding I’ve personally seen.

There were many moments that hurt and most of them had to do with side characters and I’m here for it. I LOVE a good side character arc. It’s literally the perfect middle book to a trilogy. It balanced rage, heartbreak and yearning perfectly.

The ending was immaculate. The tables have turned (i’m not happy about it.. just saying) and I cannot wait to see how this all comes together. I will definitely be rereading on release and probably AGAIN before book 3!

ARC & Beta Review

The Crown of Shadows & Distrust by E.D. Crowe is dark, intense, and completely addictive. Max is chaos incarnate and I love her for it—even when I want to shake her. And Kaden? He’s the kind of broken, broody fae that steals your heart and then wrecks it. The plot twists hit hard, the tension is off the charts, and the magic system just keeps getting better.

If you’re into cursed royals, forbidden soul-bonds, slow-burn rage-to-love, and girls who would absolutely stab first—this one’s for you.

description

Their world is unravelling. Old alliances fray under hidden truths, and a long-buried prophecy stirs—one that could either unite them or shatter the realm. Kaden’s father watches closely, offering power in exchange for obedience, while rival houses murmur about uprisings and secret pacts. Max must choose whether regaining her freedom means turning away from the love that saved her or accepting a fate she never wanted.

Magic here is alive and hungry—beautiful, unpredictable, and cruel. It both tests and heals, forcing decisions that will echo for years. Loyalties will shift, unlikely allies will reveal their true faces, and sacrifices will demand more than Kaden or Max anticipated. Through it all, one question remains: can a love forged by duty and doubt survive the truths they must face?

This is a story about reclaiming power, learning to forgive, and discovering that protection sometimes comes from letting go. It’s for readers who crave a slow-burn romance set against high-stakes fantasy, where every choice sends ripples outward and every broken bond must be rebuilt from ash and stubborn hope.

Okay, holy shit I loved this book. It picks up right where The Path of Blood and Betrayals left off, and wow, the beginning hit hard. Reading about Max being trapped in a dungeon and drugged was absolutely brutal.

This sequel is even more action-packed than book one and hooked me just as strongly. Max continues to be such a powerful and resilient FMC. Her life has been anything but easy, yet she faces everything with fire and strength truly a force to be reckoned with. And then there’s Kaden… my sweet, obsessive dark fae. He’s burdened with secrets and shadows, and I loved seeing more layers of his character revealed here. The way he and Max work through everything together made me love them even more.

Also the spice in this one? Oh, it’s spicy. The stakes are higher, the emotions deeper, and the character growth is phenomenal. And that cliffhanger?! I’m completely unwell. I need book three right now, please!

Huge thanks to E.D. Crowe for this amazing ARC, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

There is no hesitation as his installment begins right where book one left off, and it came in strong!

This story is a dark reimagining of Beauty and the Beast, this story takes a bold approach because here, both leads are monsters in their own ways. What I love is this story unravels its mysteries piece by piece, drawing both the reader and Max into a web of secrets that’s as captivating as it is unpredictable. If you love stories driven by feminine rage, resilience, and the fight to stand tall even against those who’ve betrayed you, this book delivers it all. It’s raw, powerful, and completely addictive. You will be hooked with the pacing is fast and filled with tension. She delivers keeping you on edge as every page threatens a new revelation or shocking turn.

Welcome to an incredible world of bonded mates, forced proximity, an arranged marriage, a morally grey shadow-daddy male lead, and a fierce, determined heroine, this dark, spicy romance will keep you breathless and utterly hooked until the very last page.

👑ARC read👑

“I’ll end the world to save Kaden. Now, let’s go.”

The Crown of Shadows and Distrust starts off right where book one ended.

I couldn’t help but love the dynamic between Max and Kaden. The push and pull, the banter. Max did drive me a little crazy because she just wasn’t listening to Kaden it’s like her ears were closed. However, what I loved about this particular book the MCs develop over each chapter. Don’t worry they keep the banter and sass.

This one isn’t necessarily as action packed as the first one, but I found I had a harder time putting this one down. So much is shared in this one, questions are answered, but the author leaves you wanting more by the end.

We meet new characters. Some I grew attached to, others well I really hope they have a come to something by the next book.

We do end on a cliffhanger and this is the 2nd book and you must read the first in order to read this one. I highly recommend!

"I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.” The Crown of Shadows and Distrust picks up seamlessly from Path of Blood and Betrayals, so I highly recommend reading the first book before diving in.
This sequel delivers a perfect continuation of Max and Kaden’s story. It opens with Max imprisoned and drugged to suppress her powers by none other than Kaden himself. His actions stem from a desire to protect her, but Max’s confusion and heartbreak add emotional depth to the story. Max’s growth from uncertainty to fierce confidence is beautifully written, and Kaden remains the ideal morally grey, cursed royal whose devotion to her drives the narrative.
The writing is engaging and well paced, with meaningful side characters who add warmth and humor rather than simply filling space. The blend of tension, romance, and emotional stakes makes this an outstanding follow up, leaving me desperate craving for the next installment. 💛

YES!!! I so enjoyed this book cause even tho Max struggled through this book I knew what Kaden was doing all along! OMG I LOVE HIS UNCLE! He just seems like such a sweet old man but could easily kick your ass. This whole book had me hooked and pulled my heart into it sooo much!

I loved the connection building between Kaden and Max during this book! How much she actually could calm his beast is so amazing and the love growing between them is just *chef’s kiss! AND OMG POOR FEE! I have fallen in love with her so much and I also just want to give her a hug! After finding out a bit more of her history, it’s like OMG, the poor girl! Her and Reid are so much fun tho and I am seriously loving the found family vibes happening here!!

I seriously cannot wait for book 3 to see where all this goes! The twists and turns kept me so engrossed in the story, I did not want to leave.

I was lucky enough to be able to read the first book and now this one. This book picks up where book one left off. This is the second book in the Blood Witch series. You're definitely want to read book one so you understand what all has happened, and you have the background of the characters. Max and Kaden are amazing main characters.

This book has the right amount of spice along with betrayal and adventure. There are those secrets that keep you wanting to know more. I'm in beth when we started to slowly see Max's growth. It was nice in this book to see her evolving. Kaden is that book boyfriend you didnt know you needed in your life but is always there every step of the way. This was definitely a good enemies to lovers feel but with a very rocky road to get there.

I don't want to give too much away but I will say come on book three. This book and this series gets five stars from me.

Hello, people!
First of all, let me mention that this book is the second book in the series The Blood Witch Chronicles. The truth is that I got lost somewhere. I couldn't connect with the story. I thought it was a standalone. If I had read the first book in the series, I think I would have had a better connection with the characters and the story. However, I couldn't connect deeply with the characters. I won't say that it wasn't a good read. But there were gaps that I couldn't fill. So, if you want to read the book, start from the beginning. I will look for the first book in the future and reread the second one to do everything correctly and in order.

Thanks to the author and Grey's Promotions for the eARC!

This is my honest review!

not bad

Well I need to make time to remind myself to read book 1. I feel like I may have missed out on something’s simply because I haven’t read the first

That being said…

I felt this book was good. Now there were a couple of parts where I lost interest but it kept me enough to where when I got to the ending I personally felt left on a cliffhanger and now I feel like I need more.

It was interesting and there’s action. Bickering with our mains. They had a very what one could call toxic relationship but hey it seems to have worked for them!

All in all check this story out

This was the first book I read from this author, well second because I needed to read the first one before I read this but if you love enemies to lovers this book right here is your go too.

I'm usually not a type of person that is drawn to a book by its cover but this book is truly beautiful and the storyline is literally to die for. If you are a beauty and the beast type of girlie or guy then this book is definitely a must read.

Max is such a unique character with so much emotional trauma that I felt my heart breaking for her.
Kaden, a Fae Prince enough said.

The romance between these two is delicious and I want more.

5/5 stars and you bet i will purchase these books.

This book picks up exactly where the first one left off, and I can honestly say I was taken by surprise. I expected a straightforward read, but wow, I was completely wrong! This installment is every bit as incredible as the first. As I turned each page, I found myself in awe of the story—it was so gripping, I thought I might just melt from the excitement! The way the narrative unfolds and reveals more of the future is absolutely mesmerizing. I'm utterly captivated by this series, and I simply can't wait for book three! It's impossible to contain my anticipation! I devoured this book; it's truly exceptional! Don’t miss out on this incredible journey!

We follow Max and Kaden’s story in book 2 with Max still imprisoned, Kaden doing so to protect her but Max hating for it because Kaden won’t tell he’s done it for her safety. Betrayal and hate at its finest in this sequel!!! I received this as an advanced read and am voluntarily leaving a review. The emotions are running high in the next book. But the spark of love is still present. Great characters with complex and compelling personalities, fantastic story that keeps you on the edge of the seat, and an environment that provides the perfect backdrop! Excellent read!! So looking forward to book 3.
