The Future and Other Twists is a collection of short and super short stories by Mardra Sikora. The collection starts with four stories of speculative fiction and follows with seven works of flash fiction which include twisted realities from the past, the future, and the impatient present.
The speculation begins with one old woman who, while her neighbors evacuate, prepares to face a future the others don’t see coming. Also included are speeches and stories that speak to another place and time. One utilizes final exams to improve the species, another finds the scimedical decisions to better the world a one way path that She didn’t ever expect to question.
Where would your shoes take you, if they had a choice? The oceans are greater and the forests are few, but Sherwood Forest is still the best place for a wedding for a bride who knows what she wants and a groom who gambles against algorithms.
The short speculative fiction stories lead-in to seven flash fiction twists that follow, each a quick and enjoyable read. Fantasy, history and fable are all included; the stranger the tale the more it exemplifies the human condition. Are you ready to twist out those truths?
