When renovations at Coventry's historic Thornewood Hotel disturb more than just dust, Kinsley Wilson finds herself with a truly spectral mystery on her paws. A mischievous ghost cat is haunting the town, leaving magical mayhem in its wake, and only Bonkers, the lovably chaotic orange familiar, can understand its meows from beyond the veil.
As if phantom felines weren't trouble enough, Sheriff Thorn's department is now required to wear body cameras that somehow capture paranormal activity, threatening to expose Coventry's magical secrets to state officials. Meanwhile, the mysterious Professor Winters arrives with suspiciously specific interest in the hotel's history.
With magical disturbances escalating throughout town, Kinsley, Meri, and the rest of the Skeenbauer clan must solve the mystery of the spectral cat, locate a centuries-old grimoire, and keep Coventry's magical nature hidden... all while ensuring Bonkers doesn't let his newfound ghost-whispering abilities go to his already inflated head!
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
Kinsley's familiar (cat), Meri, has never spoken about his apparently dark past. In this book, we find out what he has been hiding for 300 years and why. We are also introduced to a powerful and brilliant silver ghost cat called Whisper who defends a great and powerful treasure--as the last wish of her murdered mistress--during the age of the witch trials.
We knew that Meriweather (Meri) was a man once; made a familiar as punishment for an uncertain length of time. It's nice to finally see the humanity behind his stories of wealth and status and power.
I would like to have seen that revelation soften him a little (maybe later)? Ah, well, we can't have everything.
One thing I find strange is that even recognizing whose life is in peril doesn't seem to cut into anyone's day. There is still the rest of the week to chat with friends, go to meetings, and have a nice evening at home. No need to guard the person's life or anything. Very civilized!
It was a nice change to have the past revealed instead of the usual outsider attack.
Your stories amaze me. Book 32 and I already want the next one. This one a little different a mystery that has you pulling your hair out to try to catch serial killer that can't be caught. Clean book young and we senior citizens can read it.
