--------------------------------------------------
The life and times of Leonard H. McCoy MD/PhD … If Leonard McCoy's life could get any fucking weirder, it would be … Jesus, he didn't even want to think what that could possibly mean, because it's already been too fucking weird to make any kind of rational sense. This is my favorite fanfiction of all of them, I think, and I read it annually if I can. The pining, the friendship, the love. *Chef’s kiss.*

This one follows the Academy years and how Jim and Bones went from complete strangers to ride or die within three years. This definitely does follow the 2009 movie storyline so if you’ve seen that, you’ll know precisely the parts you’re missing from Leo’s viewpoint because he wasn’t in the room for all of it.

It brings the feels like nobody's business, but it's too long and just TOO MUCH altogether.

Example: Bones is in Georgia and his grandmother (who acts as yenta and calls Bones "boy" a lot) chides him about not doing his stretching. So that's what we're doing next - and Jim just happens to pop in and he's all "yoga?" Bones and Grandma Bones explain it's some yogaish/tai chi-ish/hybrid thingy. Well, Jim's like "okay wow have you ever heard of the XYZ method?" So OF COURSE Grandma Bones was the inventor of the XYZ method. And OF COURSE Jim joins in and he is THE BEST AT IT EVAR.

And then in the NEXT SCENE, we find out Jim also plays the piano.

So. I did a lot of eye rolling.

But, yep, the aforementioned feels are also pretty epic.

all right y'all so normally i wouldn't add a fanfiction to goodreads but this one is longer than *checks notes* EAST OF EDEN so uhhhhh yeah, it's going on my reading challenge!

not rating but it was Good Shit. long and repetitive in places but i imagine this was originally published episodically so it makes sense. Dickens would be proud!

still, it was well plotted and the writing was surprisingly competent. i've read actual published novels that were not as well written as this, so Ceres_Libera, buddy, whoever and wherever you are, i hope you kept writing and got yourself a publishing contract somewhere
