Vagabond Volume 15

The manga-ka is doing a great job of building up the back story of the man who would be Musashi's rival. Both of them had challenging childhoods but despite Kojiro's disability, he's a stark contrast to the "demon-child" Musashi. Kojiro is turning to be a likable guy.

Best fight in the series so far, bar none. Bloody, brutal, and for a cause everyone can get behind - rather than fighting for the sake of fighting, we have a genuine dickweed to bring down.

Easily worth an extra half-star all on its own.

I thought without musashi these volumes would be lame, but it amazes me how good inoue can tell a story.
Loved it.

The best quotation of this volume:

"I'm not teaching you the sword... I made up my mind when I saw the way you attacked Fudô even after he was already dead...There's a beast inside you...No, even a beast wouldn't do that...Kojiro...I won't allow that madness within you to awaken (...)"

I'm loving this arc more and more. The relationship between the step-father and Kojiro is really touching and perfect in many ways.

“I lived by the sword, and I was broken by the sword.”

“Kanemaki Jisai who lives by the sword no longer exist. You're everything to me. I'd do anything for you, that's what keeps me going.”

So we are continuing the Kojima tale and we see his first near kill followed by a change in fortune for himself and his dad . Emotional moments and cool action sequence exist but overall , i am still iffy . Especially considering that it's 10 chapters could easily be compressed into 2 chapters at best . Heck we could have easily compressed it as a flashback monologue.

That Fudo is fucking creepy just like a zombie. I am starting to like Kojiro now.

Kojiro grew up and have desired the training of swords skill by his father who is actually not real father but he has kept denying to teach. That's why Kojiro has learnt the swords skill himself by looking. I'm really looking forward to seeing how strong he is.

Still with Sasaki Kojiro.
His first cut was awesome but what came after that was :/ didn't he understand or that was the monster inside.

I saw the way you attacked Fudô even after he was already dead...There's a beast inside you...No, even a beast wouldn't do that.

Anyways it was a graphic fight.
Amazing Artwork.

I like how Kojiro's story parallels Musashi in some way. Both have a father that didn't really want them to fight (so it seems, anyways) but Musashi's dad saw him as a threat while Kojiro's adoptive father wants a better life than the sword. Both kids are seen as 'demons' and have ferocious talent. The fight we get here in this volume is pretty great, a bunch of young kids and washed up old men struggling to fight- but this time we got a real asshole of a villain who is certainly worth killing, instead of someone powerful who is being challenged for the sake of being challenged.

This volume was all Kojiro and Jisai, which was another good volume. It was very cool seeing Jisai being driven to tap into his inner swordsman once again and then also seeing Kojiro unleashing a beast like entity on the corpse of Fudo, revealing to Jisai how dangerous Kojiro could be. Jisai has seemingly developed a small fear for what Kojiro could become and he is hopeful he can take necessary action to prevent him from being a full fledged beast. Excited to see more.

Oh my fucking god, i want to give these past two volumes a 6/5 cos jesus christ the attachment i feel to this psuedo-family, the struggle of learning how to live without the sword, to live for family, is just told incredibly, and again Inoue's visual storytelling is unmatched.
