Pack Beta by Crissy Smith

Book Eleven in the Were Chronicles series

Thrown into an attempted kidnapping and a shooting, Pack Beta Chase Lawson will do anything to protect his Pack. The hunted has now become the hunter.

As Pack Beta, Chase Lawson loves his position and the time he gets to spend helping others. Always the problem-solver, Chase tries to keep the Pack running smoothly for his Alpha. A request to check on one of the older members in the heart of the Canyon leads to a man shot and bleeding on his porch—and Chase ducking for cover.

Someone is hunting Chase’s fellow members. Chase might not be the biggest or the toughest of all the shifters but he’s determined to find who is responsible for the crime.

The last twelve hours have had Kayla Webb running from an attempted kidnapping. She returns to Canyon, Texas after her father is shot. At the hospital, Kayla and friends walk into a mystery—a secret her father’s kept from her and the entire Pack—and it has come back to haunt them all.

Unsure who to trust, Kayla teams up with Chase to track down the man who hurt her family.

The logical, by-the-book Beta and independent, strong-willed female will save everyone but the secrets revealed will send a shock wave through the plains of Texas.

I live in Texas with my husband, daughter, and three Labrador retrievers. By day you can find me at my 'day job' buried under a pile of paperwork but at night I am at my computer creating new worlds!

I have always loved the paranormal. Shape-shifters, witches, and vampires have been my number one choice of reading material so when I strated to write it was the genre I chose.

I currently have several books released through Totally Bound. I have one long running series the Were Chronicles and in March 2014 a spin-off series the Shifter Chronicles will be revealed.

I also have several stand alone novellas and novels.

I am working hard to bring more stories to the readers so they can sit back and relax while losing themselves in the paranormal romance world.

The Were Chronicles next issue!

We're back in Canyon Texas and things just got a whole lot more complicated. This book follows along with Chase Lawson( we met Chase in Pack Security, as the brother to Max) as he finds himself right in the middle of a shooting. Later he meets Kayla Webb and his world is rocked.

Kayla is not a quiet or reserved female. She is full of spunk and just because someone tried to kidnap her and shoot her dad doesn't mean she'll be hiding away. Even if she had to work with the Pack Beta she will get to the bottom of who is trying to hurt her family.

This is book Eleven in the series and the second book located in Canyon. It is fast paced and full of romance between the two main mc's.

There will be one more book located in Canyon. Pack Beta sets up the next installment.

Also changes are coming to the wolves. With the new characters of Pack Beta we open up a brand new twist to the series.

There is fifteen book scheduled for the entire Were Chronicles series so as we get closer to the end be sure not to miss any of the books!

This is still one of my favorites to write. Even though the series started in 2009 I believe that we've had a good run and can't tell you how much fun the final books are to outline. I hope you have enjoyed reading them as much as I have writing them!

Pack Beta (Were Chronicles Book 11) by Crissy Smith

A great continuation of the Were Chronicles, short, hot and steamy and a very enjoyable read.

Crissy Smith writing is fantastic, easy to read and each book has its own story but also has characters from the other books. I love it.

Pack Beta is book 11 in the Were Chronicles. While each book is about a different couple they are best read in order as there are several large story arcs that cover several books.

Kaya Webb returns home after her father is shot and she is almost attacked to find that things in her pack are becoming very complicated and not everything is as it seems.

Just when one story arc ends, another pops up and several more twists are added to this already exciting series. While I am a big fan of the series and I enjoyed this book, it felt way too short. I like my romance to have more romance. This books seemed more about setting up the latest story arc than focusing on the couple it is supposedly centered around. We are introduced to several new characters that give the series a very nice twist but I felt that Kayla and Chase got the short end of the stick in the romance department.

I enjoyed Chase and Kayla together. Kayla is a wolf that knows what she wants and goes after it while Chase seems more apt to letting others lead. This is why it seemed strange to me that he is the Beta, second in charge of the pack. He can be a take charge wolf when he wants to be but he did seem a bit too submissive to be a Beta. I would have liked to see more of them just being together and not always grabbing snippets of time here and there between pack drama. I didn't feel like I connected all that much with them or really got to know them.

I also felt the book ended abruptly since there is no real resolution to anything, just more questions. I will be reading the next installment to this series when it comes out since it left so much unsaid but I hope there is a little more focus on the couple and not just the drama around them.
