Standalone Novel. Intended for adults 18+ due to sexual content.
Amy isn’t a normal eighteen year old girl. She has never attended school. She doesn’t own a smartphone. She doesn’t know the latest fashion and she has never seen the newest reality TV show. Amy has lived her entire life hidden away in the mountains with her mentally ill mother and her mother’s dark secrets. She has no contact with the outside world, until the day she sees him for the first time through the crack in the tall wooden fence that holds her prisoner. Every day she returns to watch the boy through the fence, imagining what it would be like… to be kissed, to be touched, and to be loved. But her mother has warned her, “The world is evil, Amy. The boys will hurt you and the girls will laugh.” Dillon is a lonely, farm boy content with running his father’s horse ranch until Amy stumbles onto his property begging him to help her. An emotional connection quickly turns into an intense physical connection. He wants to give her the world and she wants him to give it to her. All of it.
Oh my God, I'm definitely going soft in the head...! You know that you've REALLY loved a book when you're able to forgive a ridiculous amount highly improbable and somewhat impossible things that were in it! (no matter how many books and magazines Amy might have read)
I'm not going to list them, you'll see if you ever read it that Amy couldn't have known, wouldn't have understood or even thought the majority of the things that happened, post her captivity from when Dillon came into her life and yet, GAH... I loved it.
Love, sentimentality, heartfelt writing, tragedy and a beautiful HEA won through ...albeit with a huge amount of poetic license!
Amy was brought up hidden away from life and other human contact. Her mother ingrained the evilness of the world through words and abuse, but Amy always thought there was a false part to the words her mother said. When her mother lets her walk the trails on their property, she sees Dillon. Scared but curious, Amy watches Dillon and Dillon notices. He gets that Amy is scared but he wants to know more about the girl who lives hidden away. Will Amy be able to adapt to life outside of her tightly chained cage?
This was a wonderful surprise, I thought it would have been so easy for Amy to lose herself to the torment of her mother but through books she had hope. As the story unfolds Dillon becomes quite attached to Amy but he is patient about letting her set the pace. This is one book you don't put down once you pick up.
Amy, for the all of the 18 years of her life has been hidden away behind a fence surrounding their property. She has been living with her mentally ill, and sometimes abusive mother, that tells her the horrors of the world. But Amy knows there is more than ugly in the world, and she finds that in Dillon. I LOVED this book. This book was totally sweet. I loved Dillon's character. I thought he was sweet, and protective. I liked Amy's character too. The way she handled things was courageous to me. I liked watching as she experienced things. I liked her and Dillon's interactions. There was some slight suspense/mystery, but not too much because you could pretty much figure things out on your own. But it added a bit of unknown to the book. There was a good amount of heat in the book. Dillon turned from sweet to totally sexy during these scenes, and Amy was uninhibited, which was nice. The only down side to this book was the scenes between Dillon and another woman. One was somewhat descriptive, and one of which Amy witnesses. I HATE that in books, but this book was so awesome I totally forgave the author for putting that in there. That is the only reason this book lost half a star.
This book set me off on a rant to my husband. Does no one think she *needs* to go see a therapist/psychiatrist/psychologist?! I can let it go for Dillon, he's a nice guy just trying his best to help her and might not know better. However, his sister, who's a nurse, or the doctor, which his sister takes Amy to to get checked out, don't really even suggest she see a trained mental health professional. Schizophrenia does run in families, which is something even an untrained individual like myself is aware of, even if I don't understand the details. Even if Amy isn't mentally ill, she's obviously still dealing with her upbringing. She has night terrors, her social skills are obviously underdeveloped, and she has flashbacks to her past (while awake) where she's unaware of the present. She should be getting help, not just birth control pills and some over the counter sleep aids! Besides that glaring flaw, there were a couple smaller inconsistencies that also bothered me. The premise of the book was interesting but the execution was flawed.
Writing issues. The writing was very amateurish. The male POV had a feminine tone. (loc 463)
I loved the premise, but I was unable to connect. The connection between the characters was not believable.
Amy has been kept "hidden" by her mother for 18 years. Mentally and physically abused by her mother, one day Amy runs away and goes to Dillon, a man she had watched from a distance. Dillon takes Amy in and tries to help her.
You may love it, but the writing style did not work for me.
explicit sex scenes with OW (H's fwb), he said he was imagining he was fucking the h 😒, she caused some drama after the MCs got together, at the end she apologized to them but I still didn't like her, she was a bitch
This is the story of Amy, a young who woman has spent the formative years of her life trapped in a home with her psychologically unstable mother. She doesn’t know any other life, and is terrorized by her mother, who is herself terrorized by an occasional visitor whom Amy knows only as the skinny man. The man who visits leaves her mother bruised and broken again and again, with Amy left to pick up the pieces. When Amy’s mother finally allows her to explore the one hundred acre property their house is situated on, she discovers that there is life outside the walls of her home. She finds solace under a huge elm tree with her journal, her books, and her overactive imagination. She is astounded when she finds a break in the fence behind the elm and discovers Dillon, whose father owns the horse ranch right next to their property. At first she runs from him, but there is an inexplicable attraction between them. From there, the author explores Amy’s psyche and her ability to overcome her fears and open up to Dillon. Amy’s sexual awakening is powerful and erotic and the reader will also enjoy the unraveling of the mysteries of the ‘fat man’ and the ‘skinny man’. Hidden shows the lengths that good/bad people go to get what they need and is filled with sexual tension that will delight the reader (I loved the tractor in the rain scene). This is Ross’ best work and you will not forget her characters any time soon.
This is a story that you don’t normally find so that I did like. I like a strong heroine but I also like the journey that they go on and the journey Amy takes is certainly interesting. I ended up skipping only one section which surprised me because usually halfway through I’m skipping the sex scenes because too much of a good thing is never good in my eyes. I mean I want romance and passion but I can’t stand reading about a girl doing that…it’s just not my thing. But I would read this book again and I’m not regretting my purchase so I’ll give it four stars and say that if you want a book where the heroine goes through hell but comes out stronger then this is your book.
I thought this was a fantastic book. The story was well developed and the relationships were built well. The author did a very good job making you understand the emotions. I read Wanted and Broken by this author and I have to say hands down this was the best of the three!!
This book was so good it showed you what a bad beginning Amy had at the start but it just shows what the love of a good man can do I just love books like this I'm so pleases MLK Ross wrote this book look forward to more by MLK Ross
4.5 Stars. I really really enjoyed this book!! I don't even know how I came across it, but I am so glad I did. It seriously pulled me in and I read it in one day.
