Fighting fires is his passion, but he’s no match for the rock star who sets his heart ablaze.
Conor Holliston has everything he needs in life: a supportive family, three lifelong best friends, a rewarding job as a firefighter, and a love of adventure. What he doesn’t need is some big-time rock star with electric blue eyes and a breath-catching smile coming to his quaint New Hampshire town and flipping it on its side.
Dallas Blade thought he had everything in life: an amazing career fronting an internationally renowned rock band, traveling all over the world, meeting thousands of fans, and no two days the same. Until fate took a sharp turn, and he discovered he had a teenage daughter who needed him and a career at a crossroads.
Fire brings Conor and Dallas together, but are the embers hot enough to keep burning when their worlds are as different as night and day?
Love Songs features a carefree firefighter suffering from pesky feelings for a rock star who’d suddenly become a single dad, lifelong best friends, a charming small town where everyone knows everyone’s business, and the best truffles known to humankind.

Love Songs by L.C. Chase is part of the Harmony Lake multi author series. It is a series of 4 books, each focusing on one of four best friends who all live in Caldwell Crossing, New Hampshire. This is the only book of the four I have read and I did fine so you can definitely read it as a stand alone. I loved these four best friends and how close they were. They teased each other but also supported each other in every way. This one had me at firefighter and a rock star.
Conor Holliston is thirty years old and is a firefighter in Caldwell Crossing. He loves his job. He’s lived all his life in this wonderful little town, is close with his family and is happy. When one of his friends falls in love, it makes Conor wonder if he will someday be the odd man out in their friend group since he doesn’t see that ever happening for him.
Dallas Blade is thirty four years old and is an internationally famous rock star. He is the lead singer and has lived the life musicians dream of. When he finds out that he has a fourteen year old daughter that he never knew existed, it completely changes his priorities. The life he leads isn’t the life he wants for his daughter.
The band is scheduled to play for a festival in Caldwell Crossing. Conor is in charge of making sure all of the performers follow the safety specifications he sets for them. Dallas’s band gives him the most trouble but Conor is determined they will follow his rules to the letter. You could say that the first interaction between these two includes plenty of sparks!
“I’d traveled all over the world for more than a decade, met thousands and thousands of people, but it wasn’t until this small town that I’d stumbled upon the one man I could imagine a future with.”
These two felt so drawn to one another. But Conor knew his life was in this town he loved and Dallas’s was not. I loved, though, that Dallas listened to his own intuition. He felt so peaceful in this beautiful little town. Living the way he did, he never really had a place to call home. But here, he felt like he belonged. Could Conor be a part of that future?
This was a very low angst, sweet, steamy, swoony, wonderful little story. I loved Conor and Dallas and together, they were perfect. Dallas’s daughter was so adorable too. I’ve read a couple of this author’s books in the past and with every one, I’ve fallen in love. I’m so glad I picked this one up.
I had the biggest smile the entire time I was reading this book! It had that perfect happy feeling the whole way through, and even though they fall fast, it felt totally believable and I just loved Conor and Dallas together.
Single dad, small town and found family are always favourites for me but throw in a rockstar and a firefighter, plus an abandoned house to renovate... I honestly couldn't have asked for anything more!
***** I received an ARC of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review
This was better than the 2nd book but also had issues with using a native German speaker for those pieces that were in German.
Just simply translating "Pretty girl" into German as "Hübsches Mädchen" doesn't mean that Germans would say that to/about a female dog. While this may be an interchangeable phrase in English for both dogs and girls, the literal translation would not be used in normal GERMAN to talk about a dog.
Apart from being confused that this third book in the series gave away elements from the fourth book in the series, this was a good, solid romance with some sweet bits.
Although I felt it was a tad too much instalove with them essentially catching feelings in the space of a week, it didn't go too far into the realms of unbelievability because the author did a great job of showing the connection between Conor and Dallas from the start.
I liked very much the secondary element of Dallas' voice issues, his single dad status, and the whole what happens next for his career and family, and I really love the found family friendship group that's been at the heart of this series.
The small town vibes work great and even though each author has written their own instalment, the character voices throughout the series have stayed true no matter which book they're appearing in, not always the case in a shared world series.
Looking forward to the final book now with woodcarver Ryan and author Adam.
While the insta-love, insta-connection, whatever, made my eyes rolled hard, this was okay. Not the best. I mean, everything is WAY too nice and WAY too smooth though, like almost no conflict at all, including when you are a rock star and suddenly gets a 14-years-old daughter that you have never know before, and everything is honky dory. Yeah, like that could easily happen *lol*
However, rock band without drugs and drama and teenager that is accepting is also a nice change of pace. So there.
It was very cute. I think that you definitely need to read Sam's book first, but if you shuffle the order of the other three it would be OK, as the timeline on them is more overlapped
Ohhhh, this was sweet sweet sweet! Like a sugary chocolate strawberry cake on a warm spring day. ✨ 🍓 A little too perfect to be true. And a bit too sweet for my taste.
30-something rockstar and single dad has a concert at a small town where he accidentally sets the curtains on fire. Lucky for him the hot firefighter whom he bickered with before is there to save the day. And leaves him speechless. Both instantly feel attracted to each after a cute and romantic date they feel like this could more than just a fling…
I found the cozy small town setting and the characters lovely and super wholesome. This is perfect if you’re looking for something short and sweet without any drama and not too spicy but not too deep either.
This was a really low-angst, sweet small town story by a new to me author. I loved the instant connection between Dallas and Conor, and I loved everyone in the town. I'm excited to see this is part of a multi-author series and will definitely read the other books.
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily gave my honest review.
🎵 Love Songs by L.C. Chase ⭐️⭐️✨ (2.5 stars) | 🌶️ (1 chili)
Thank you to the GRR for gifting me this book. I am voluntarily leaving a review.
It sucks being the last single friend, and Love Songs leans into that ache—Conor’s surrounded by happy couples and wondering if love’s even in the cards for him.
Enter Dallas: tattooed rock frontman, (secret?) single dad, freshly post-vocal surgery and not exactly itching to jump back into the spotlight. On paper, he’s broody perfection. Conor is a total softie with a fireman’s heart (🔥). The potential was absolutely there.
But the tension? It never really sticks. There’s some drama early on with a band fire incident that’s supposed to set up conflict, but once they go on a real date, it’s like... poof. All resistance gone. I missed the build-up. The romantic arc felt way too smooth, too soon.
Dallas felt like a full-on diva sometimes (in a hilarious way—talk to the hand, the face can’t talk right now), and I couldn’t tell if he was hiding his daughter or not. It felt inconsistent. Some parts hinted at secrecy, others were casual.
I think I finally cracked what wasn’t working for me: the dialogue. The inner thoughts? Great. But every character speaks the same. There’s no voice variation, no punch, no moments that made me feel like these two were meant to fall in love.
Even the spice didn’t deliver much emotional tension. The scenes focus more on the mechanics than the chemistry, and that left me wanting more... feeling.
I did like the cozy Hallmark vibes overall, and fans of the series might enjoy reconnecting with side characters. But this one just didn’t fully sing for me.
I love small town series, especially set in shared worlds. I loved my introduction to Harmony Lake, and am looking forward to reading the other books in the series. Conor and Dallas get off to a bad start, but soon see past their initial assumptions to build a friendship and more. I loved the focus on friendship with each of Conor’s friends having a role in the story.
I felt for Dallas who is facing a huge life change with the very real chance that he won’t be able to keep doing what he loves. I also loved his relationship with his new-found daughter Jaylin. I liked the hint at the beginning that although Conor says he’s happy being single, he’s beginning to wish for a relationship like the ones developing for his friends. I love how his and Dallas’s friendship/relationship begins with an act of kindness, which shows something about both men.
Caldwell Crossing is one of those small towns I wish was real and I could visit. I loved the community vibe, and its inhabitants. I also liked Dallas’s friend, Kirk, especially in the Bachelor Auction scene. I loved Conor’s family, with their obvious love for each other, their friendly teasing and banter, and how they immediately welcome Dallas and Jaylin into their fold.
I loved the shared history of Conor, Haider, Sam, and Ryan, with each of them being there for the other at any hint they’re needed. The way they check out Conor’s first date is fun, and not subtle in the slightest.
Conor and Dallas’s HEA, with Jaylin, is sweet. I love the role of the old abandoned house, and home.
Another entertaining read in the Harmony Lake series, this time seeing Conor out of the group of friends getting his HEA. It says enemies to lovers but it's more frustration at someone you've barely met who was your celebrity crush but we go with it and enjoy the ride as Conor and Dallas first meet face to face when they are both annoyed at the other. There is the tiny matter of a small fire on stage when Dallas is finishing his performance at the town's fair, and then when he just happens to be passing and purchases Conor at the charity bachelor auction. However, first impressions are clearly not always correct as they quickly move from animosity to intrigue and attraction. It's a sweet story that includes Dallas's fourteen year old daughter who he has only known for a year, and then the nosy busybodies that are Conor's best friends that he wouldn't be without. It is also very close to being an instalove romance, such is the pace of their relationship but it flows well and is easily enjoyable. I also like getting to see different snippets of moments with the four friends throughout the four books, showing off each friendship and the men in different ways. Small town gossip plays a bit part here too, ensuring everyone knows what's going on with Conor and Dallas, regardless of how true it is! I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
I had the pleasure of reading the first two books in this series also. I absolutely love these 4 best of friends and the small town they live in.
After reading Sam and Haiden getting their happy endings it was time for Conor to get his story out there.
It was hinted a little bit who his love interest would be but how lovely was it to read how Conor and Dallas story came to be.
It was nice to read Conor with his love and passion for his job, and same to read the background on Dallas about his voice and as mentioned in the blurb an unexpected daughter.
One of the best things in these books is the parts when the friends (with or without their significant others) come together. I love the interaction the banter and the love between them.
Despite the odds that might be against them, with coming from completely different worlds, you as a reader definitely feel the need and urge for them to get to the point they both want to be.
With a lovely twist involving a house (no not saying more) it brought the whole story perfectly together.
The story is wonderful, the writing great as expected, this is author L.C. Chase at her best.
And can I just make a small mention. I would love to read Kirk getting his story, hopefully with some glimpses of Dallas and Conor.
It was a joy to read this story as I read it in one go
This is a very Hallmark style book with very little angst, plenty of happy times, good connections, laughs, sweet moments, likeable characters (main and secondary) and love. Conor and Dallas seem to connect nearly instantly despite having very different lifestyles, and initially thinking they wanted different things. That first week together was a solid foundation for the unexpected feelings they developed and the strength of their connection. Everything seemed to align perfectly to bring them together, to discover passion and love, and for them to get their sweet HEA. This was an easy, light, quick read. I loved the connections to the town and between all the friends, and how easily Dallas and his daughter fit in. The comradery and interactions between those friends often led to some laughs, and the auction was seriously funny.
The ARC I read needed another round with a proofreader, and that will hopefully be fixed for the final copy. I received my copy from GRR, this is my honest opinion.
There’s a lot about this book that is quintessential small town romance and it was lovely to see. The people of Caldwell Crossing are in everyone’s business, but it’s written in a way that is charming. Conor and his three best friends, Sam, Ryan, and Haider, are the stars of the series. The found family feel between them is well done and there’s no doubt that they are always there for each other. This shapes some of Conor’s sense of self, and I think the author walked the line of showing his worries really well. He’s happy for his friends, even as he fears things will change. And he never expects he’ll be the next one to fall.
There are some really interesting side plot points that give the story depth. And for the most part, it’s a low angst, lovely story about two men who are ready for life to change and find each other at the right moment.
Thank you for the book, here is my honest opinion: This series has some of my favorite authors and I am a fan of low angst romance. The setting is well done, especially if you love a nosey small town vibe. I enjoyed this author’s writing and skill with characters. Is a delightful character and his quiet struggle over wat his friends find love was very effective and relatable. I was definitely rooting for him to find his own HEA. I’m a hard sell when it comes to single dads or rock star romance novels and this of course, has both. I liked Dallas’ daughter Jaylin, she is neither overly precious nor overly snarky as is often the case. However, I can’t say I find it particularly or interesting to read about Dallas in dad mode. But, I can skim the kid parts, a larger challenge was how slow the pacing felt and the long internal monologues. I did enjoy it overall, especially Dallas allowing himself to reform his rock star life into something more satisfying with Connor.
A sweet romance that had me smiling through the book and at the completion of the book. This is my first read in this multi author series, and I loved it. I loved it because these four men got into my heart adn are the kind of friends we all want in our lives. I will for sure go back and read the previous books as while it was a great standalone I am sure I missed some of the earlier book connections. Conor was perfectly written--a man who loves his life and small town. It took me a bit to warm up to Dallas, the rock star who is a surprised new father and connects with Conor when his band is in town (Conor as firefighter has to assure all goes well). I will admit it took me a bit to warm up to Dallas but in the end I did and love that while he did not know what he was missing, he found it in this quaint New Hampshire town. I did receive an ARCA and leave this honest review.
This is just a Hallmark movie in a book. Fluffy, cute, totally angst and drama free.
But a really nice read for a rainy day, summer day in the garden/beach/pool where you just want to get away and enjoy. It's Insta-love / insta-lust.
I think these books give you the most if you read them in order but it's also doable as a stand-alone.
I love Connor and his deep connection to Caldwell Crossing. As I read the previous 2 books, he was already a known character, compared to Dallas who was a bit less developed, he had several things going on at the same time and they became a bit shallow with his voice, his future and his daughter all going on at the same time.
The book could have been twice the size to cover all ongoing topics and the house renovation could have been a lot bigger but it does work on its own.
Low angst, easy read romance. I do love a small-town romance. And this was a quick easy read. There's no over the top angst, just two people meeting and falling hard. It's fast and dirty, a week of getting to know you, then a week of missing you, before the ILY. Both Connor and Dallas are easy characters to like, although Connor had the slight edge for me, probably due to my conscious bias towards firefighters over rockstars.
* firefighters * rock stars * falling hard and fast * bachelor auction * small town * close knit friend group * maple syrup farm
If I had any complaints, it's that I'm already reading a small town series with a maple syrup themed setting and I kept getting the two confused. When the mayor appeared I was momentarily taken aback because it was a man not a woman 😂
Low angst, swoony, small town romance between a hot firefighter and a rockstar looking for a place to land with his horse crazy teenage daughter... add in a bachelor auction, a fabulous friend group and a house on the water and you have a really great romance, sure to make you smile.
This book has just the right amount of steam, some excellent banter and two adorable men who deserve their HEA. I've been reading the series in order, but each book in this multi-author series stands well on it's own. They have interconnecting timelines which makes it fun to revisit certain scenes from new perspectives. I also love that this series is written by an international cast of authors - one British, one American, one Canadian and one Australian!
This is another wonderful story within the Harmony Lake love stories. L.C. Chase did a great job bringing Conor and Dallas's story to life for us. Conor and Dallas's road to romance was full of laughter, lusty looks, and sweet kisses which led to....well you know. These two are perfectly written for each other. Add in the guys from the previous books and their loves, along with a small insight into Ryan and Adam's future story, which I am reading as soon as I am done posting this review! This was perfectly aligned with the other stories. Strangers meet, fall in lust then love and get their HEA. Who could have a problem with that? Add in Conors family, co-workers and special guests at the end of the book! I highly recommend this book! Love is Love
Conor and Dallas meet at the right time in their lives. Both are at a crossroads and circumstances, a recently discovered teenage daughter, brings Dallas to Conor's small town. Coming to Caldwell Crossing where his band is scheduled to play in a festival brings these two into one another's presence. Conor is there to help with safety. There is instant sparking going on when these two meet. Conor was wondering if he would meet someone. And Dallas finds a peace in the town that helps him think of Caldwell Crossing as a place to settle. Sweet, swoony, and low on angst, this is a lovely story about finding what you need when you need it. I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Good loving. Conor, is living his best life. He has the greatest best friends, an amazing family and the job of his dreams. The only fly in his ointment is that all friends are finding their persons and Conor is still single. Dallas, thought he had everything he needed in life. He's an internationally famous lead singer. He is recovering from surgery and is at a crossorads of his future career. Then he learns he has a teanage daughter. Conor and Dallas meet and are instantly attracted. Their courtship flows steadily as both men work out their personal dilemmas while condiering their personal priorities and how they fit in each other's lives. Nice story, nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another great entry in this series. I am really enjoying the different voices in the storytelling between the stories. It is nice when a character from a previous story pops up and feels like they come from their authors storyworld and retain their own distinct voice. This story followed our local boy fireman Conor as he met and fell for mega famous singer Dallas. Dallas finds himself having to make some tough choices as his singing career is threatened. Conor and the good folk of Harmony Lake help him make that decision. This was an easy read because it was simply heartfelt, with no major drama, and a bunch of fun and loving people being genuine and real. Loved it. Onto the lucky last in the series now!
Conor and Dallas are opposites who are brought together by a fire. There's instant attraction and an insta love thing going on. There's very little angst/drama considering all the life changes these two are going through. If you like Hallmark romance, then this is the book for you. I liked the book but I didn't love it. I wanted more intensity, more excitement. I wanted more character development. The world building with the other books is nice. It's a fast, short story for a day's of leisure reading.
Dallas Blade has lived the rock star dream. He has been able to create music and perform it with his best friend around the world. Now the years of hard work have caught up to him. After his second surgery, he tests his voice at a festival in Harmony Lake. After a small fire, he meets local firefighter Connor. Dallas finds himself charmed by the man and the town and starts feeling the urge to set down roots. This is a beautiful low angst story and it was refreshing that Dallas' life change wasn't propelled by some horrific event.
Holy expo dumps. The first line 12% of the book felt like it was one long exposition after another. I don't think we really needed to know all of Conor's hangups, Dallas' history complete history with his voice + child, and all of both of their histories and thoughts about their friends in one go. That stuff could've been developed as the story went on and not just told to us off the bat.
I gave up when Dallas began expo dumping his history with his friend after him and his dumbass band started a fire for not following Conor's rules.
This was my first book by L.C. Chase. It was heartwarming and enjoyable, but didn't quite reach 5-star status for me. The writing was good but didn't set my soul alight. I enjoyed getting to know Conor and Dallas and watch their relationship develop. It was also fun spending time on page with the other MCs from this series. This was the best of the Harmony Lake 4-book multi-author series, and the story I was most interested to read.
Cute, sweet, feel-good romance between a retiring rock star and a fireman. This is the 3rd in the Harmony Lake series, but it works well as a standalone (I have the other 2, but did not have time to read them before receiving the ARC for this one). It's got low to no angst, and a medium amount of spice. There's a well-written 14-year-old as well.
Reading this was definitely a nice way to spend an afternoon.
Rating 4.5 This is a great small town meets rock star romance. This book took me by surprise, the premise to me seems like it would never work, but it totally did. The speed with which it happened also seemed unreal to me, but again the author made it believable. The characters were well developed and the pace was just right. I enjoyed my time in Caldwell Crossing and the other characters from the other books in this series.
This is the third book in a multi-author series about 4 best friends, and I loved it. It’s the turn of firefighter Connor to find his HEA, and rockstar and single dad Dallas is perfect for him. I loved their journey from enemies to lovers, and the fun banter between Connor and his group of friends was a delightful addition. This was a charming, low-angst story with heat and a wonderful addition to the series. I highly recommend it. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
