An excellent book from the great Carlo Ancelotti focusing on his impressive record in the champions league and some of the star players and teams he has managed over the years.

If you are a football fan you are naturally going to love this book, it charts Carlo's career from his playing days all the way up to his appointment as the national team manager of Brazil.

The only criticism and it could come from some bias, i dont feel one chapter was quite enough for his time at Chelsea, now i am a Chelsea supporter so naturally would want to hear more from his time during that period.

Quem me conhece bem sabe que sou um ignorante quando o assunto é futebol e foi por conta do atual patrocínio à CBF que eu quis entender mais da história e trajetória do Carlo Ancelotti, o atual técnico da Seleção Brasileira. Acredito que para ter uma boa relação com seus parceiros, e exercitar a tão falada “empatia”, é preciso estudar e aprender.
O livro é bem legal para quem gosta de bastidores e quer entender o funcionamento dos bastidores do futebol de elite. O livro detalha desde o seu histórico como jogador até suas vitórias e derrotas como técnico, passando pela forma como ele equilibra as complexas relações com dirigentes de clubes e os atletas. Confesso que achei divertido até descobrir a origem do famoso hábito de mascar chicletes ao longo dos jogos, além de ver de perto a admiração sincera e o respeito que ele tem por jogadores da nossa equipe atual, com foco especial no Vini Jr.
Queria ter acabado o livro antes do término da Copa (e da eliminação do Brasil), mas a rotina do trabalho não permitiu. Porém, como bom brasileiro, terminar o livro me deixou mais esperançoso sobre este novo ciclo que se inicia com a nossa Seleção. Fico até ansioso para ver como tudo vai se desenhar no caminho até 2026, ainda mais sabendo que quatro anos é um ciclo bastante longo dentro das dinâmicas e histórias compartilhadas por Carlo.

You need to be a football fan to read this, it's not for a general reader. Some reviewers state it is more like a list of matches, but that is what genuine football fans will be interested in.

He has humility and involves the team in half time discussions more than other managers, is what I took from this. He keeps things simple compared to other managers, prefers to counter attack when teams press his team. If you have a solid defence and a stellar attack, this seems to work fine!

It is quite something to win 5 Champions Leagues as a manager (and 2 as a player). Some may say "yes, but look at the teams he managed". If that was the case then people like Sir Alex Ferguson would have won more than 2, Pep Guardiola would have won more than 1 at Man City. Arguably, the only teams that should be able to win it are PSG, Real Madrid, Man City, Bayern Munich or Barcelona if it was based on money alone, but in the tier below that you have Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Dortmund, Atletico, the two Milan teams, Juventus and others.

With all those teams (14) desperate to get their hands on it, it is amazing that Ancelotti was able to win it 5 times.

Give this a miss if you’re looking to gain any personal insight or anecdotes about Ancelotti’s great achievements in the Champions League. The book reads like a robotic narration of chronological events - any decent AI tool could have written this without any input from the protagonist/supposed author.

The first half is top because of the emotional relation to Milan and the players. The second half would've been if he was a bit more self critical and acknowledged some of his mistakes at PSG, Bayern and so on. Good read and nice insights overall.
