Live Like Wes: Home Decor Inspired by Wes Anderson Movies

Rate this book
What if Wes Anderson designed your house? His aesthetic is colourful, warm and inviting - perfect ingredients for beautiful home decor.

Live Like Wes focuses on the interior design and styling of classic Wes Anderson films and shows you how to apply it at home. The book is split into eight chapters, each based on an Anderson movie and the aesthetic styling it best exemplifies - Bohemian kitsch for The Royal Tenenbaums, cottage-core for Fantastic Mr Fox, pattern for The Darjeeling Limited, European Charm for The French Dispatch, whimsical for Moonrise Kingdom, Mid-Century Modern for Asteroid City, symmetry for The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and dopamine decor for The Grand Budapest Hotel. So whether you're in the market for a cottage-core kitchen straight out of Fantastic Mr Fox or you want to turn your dining room into a Mid-Century Modern masterpiece a la Asteroid City, there is something here no matter how deep you want to live your Wes fantasy.

With well-researched film analysis and practical advice on how to get the look, the book includes stunning photos from 30 international interior designers who have emanated the Anderson aesthetic - to perfection. Each chapter also includes an illustrated step-by-step project and a party plan inspired by a film. Knit yourself a Steve Zissou red beanie table favour and you'll be all set for The Life Aquatic lunch menu, complete with original negroni recipe, playlist and dream invite list. Of course David Attenborough is invited.

This beautiful book is perfect for fans of Accidentally Wes or anyone who would like to make that Wes magic last after the final credits.

I saw this book on display at my library, and I picked it up on a whim. Best whimsical choice I made this month!

This is an interior design guide, but more than that it is delightful and mesmerizing. The book has 8 chapters each based on a different Wes Anderson movie. The author explores each film in turn and looks at what makes it delightful, and how we can apply those principles to our own homes.

The author is very mindful of different living spaces (and that not all of us either live in house or own homes). Some suggestions might be "redo your wall with a zig-zagged complimentary color scheme for the upper half, and repaint the lower half" or the much simpler "get a bath rug that looks like a Persian carpet". There's ideas to dream big, but also ideas like framing meaningful ephemera or adding more ferns and palms or looking into getting "Bombay Deco" designs on Etsy. I really do appreciate the attention paid to more modest acomodations, since that is what I live in.

The book is richly photographed with examples NOT from the movies, to show what that sort of a style could look like in an ordinary (if well-decorated) home. I actually wrote a few pages in my notebook for ideas on how I plan to fix up my place, and I already started in one room.

Above all, this book is an inspiration and a delight. I got it on a whim and I read the whole thing in one day, cover-to-cover. I have no choice but to award this 5 stars.

Though I've only ever seen one of Anderson's films, I've always been a fan of his style. This book was a visual treat with a satisfying layout.

Any Wes Anderson movie set fan would appreciate an interior designers closer look at the decor details of his movies and ways to replicate the looks.
