I previously read "The Power of Letting Go", so when I saw that John Purkiss had written another book, I was excited to get my hands on it. In "The Power of Moving On", I resonated with the idea of surrendering to a greater force that brings us back to our intuition and wisdom. I’m *guilty* of treating and thinking of my mind and body as two separate things AND thinking of my thoughts as my intuition. This book gave a *much-needed* reminder that they are NOT the same. It also helped shed light on a few ideas that stuck with me, including...
-The notion that many of us operate under the assumption that “I am separate from other people and the world around me,” and how this belief shapes the way we relate to the environment, animals, one another, and life.
-Uncovering pain patterns as a way to expose what’s holding our thoughts hostage, and how those patterns keep us stuck, ultimately preventing the kinds of things we ACTUALLY want to manifest from ever happening.
-We often rely on conscious thinking, memory, or analysis to understand what’s happening or has happened, but the author encourages us to stop defaulting to “mind-thinking” as the driver. Instead, past experiences and memories already filter into our internal wisdom automatically. By surrendering that's things begin to flow more naturally and actually start to present.
There were more takeaways beyond these, and look, I did find some chapters a bit repetitive at times once I had already internalized a concept that was shared in a previous chapter. When I review self-help or psychology-leaning books, I’m less focused on a star-rating system (which I tend to reserve more for things like fiction). Instead, I think about the quality of a book in this genre through: how much it shifts my thinking, how often I pause to sit with a passage or talk it through with a friend or partner, and whether (or how!) the ideas actually make their way into my day-to-day life. This one will certainly be on my mind as I head into the new year.
