My little girl has vanished. And I can’t tell anyone…
My nine-year-old daughter Hollie should be leaving school smiling and laughing with all the other children but she’s not here. I run frantically, checking everywhere, my voice growing louder, but I can’t see her bright blue eyes and heart-shaped face anywhere. Pure panic washes over me. This is my worst nightmare.
Her teacher asks me if she should call the police. My heart stops. I shake my head and pretend I’ve made a mistake. I see a look of suspicion creep into the teacher’s eyes. But the police can’t know. No one can. My hands shake as I realise I’m completely on my own.
I know in my gut my daughter hasn’t just wandered off. She’s been taken. Someone must know the truth about my past…
I’ve spent so long protecting Hollie, but I always knew this day might come. And I’ll stop at nothing to get my little girl back.

3.75 stars! 🌟 Huge thanks to Bookouture for the ARC & Bookouture Audio for the ALC via NetGalley! 💌
From the very first page, this book grips you and doesn’t let go! Elizabeth’s daughter, Hollie, vanishes in broad daylight at a school Halloween party. One second she’s there, dressed in a big, bright butterfly costume, and the next—POOF—gone. Sounds like a parent's worst nightmare, right? But here’s where things get extra suspicious: when the school suggests calling the police, Elizabeth REFUSES. Like, full-on panic mode, "Nope, absolutely not, we do NOT call the cops" kind of reaction. 🚨👀
WHY, ELIZABETH?? WHAT are you hiding? WHO are you running from? And, most importantly, WHERE is Hollie?!?
This book had my brain doing cartwheels. The tension? SKY-HIGH. The twists? Unrelenting. And just when you think you’ve got it figured out? BAM. Another revelation hits like a freight train. Secrets, lies, and a whole lot of chaos—this book was SERVING.
Tropes: ✅ Missing Child ✅ Secretive Protagonist ✅ Family Drama ✅ Race Against Time ✅ Shocking Twists ✅ Distrust & Paranoia ✅ Unreliable Characters
🔥 THINGS I LOVED:
✧ Elizabeth and her sister, Sasha, working the case in completely different ways—total opposites, total entertainment.
✧ The super fast pace—no time to breathe, just pure thriller adrenaline.
✧ A few twists I genuinely didn’t see coming.
🤔 WHAT COULD’VE BEEN BETTER:
✧ The ending left me a bit confused—was it meant to be open-ended? Did I miss something? Either way, I wanted a bit more clarity.
✧ Some tropes felt a little overused, but the execution was still solid.
🎧 Audiobook thoughts: Cathleen McCarron’s narration was fantastic—she really captured Elizabeth’s panic and made the whole thing even more intense. I’d 100% recommend the audio if you love a dramatic, immersive listen!
Final verdict? If you love twisty, edge-of-your-seat thrillers with secrets galore, this one’s for you! Just be prepared to second-guess EVERYTHING. 😵🔥
A MOTHER WILL GO THROUGH ANY LENGTHS TO PROTECT THEIR CHILD
Elizabeth Is freaking out! Her nine-year-old daughter has gone missing, and she can’t let anyone know… why? Because Elizabeth Is hiding so many secrets that if the police get involved, she will definitely have no chance getting her daughter back. So, she needs to work carefully and use her smarts to try and find who took her daughter.
OH MY. This is one of those books, whereby chapter 3 I knew I was going to struggle to put it down. The plot starts instantly, and we are thrust into a panicky ‘wouldn’t wish this on my enemy’ type of scenario and I was locked in. I didn’t know how to feel about Elizabeth as a parent. I had empathy for her because she has lost her child, but the other part of me was side eyeing as to what she possibly could have done in her past to the point she can’t contact the local authority. Overall, she was an unlikeable character for me.
As we get further into the book there was some twists and turns, I didn’t see coming that I really enjoyed but the conclusion to the story… UMMM NO! I felt I was worked up to an absolute frenzy to be delivered an un-thrilling mundane ending.
Not much was explained with the ending and throughout, the backstory of Elizabeth was only surface level. You don’t actually get a reasoning behind anyone’s actions.
⋆。°✩WHAT I LIKED⋆。°✩ ➽ Jumping straight into the action ➽ Fast paced ➽ Short chapters ➽ Cliffhanger chapters
⋆。°✩WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE⋆。°✩ ➽ Too many unresolved answers ➽ Side characters left unresolved ➽ A certain trope used without any explanation as to why ➽ The ending
I needed more from the ending and for some loose ends to tied up more better. But if you are need for a quick palate cleanser read, this would be a good one to pick up.
Big thank you to Bookouture and JD Kirk for gifting me a physical copy of this book. All opinions are honest and my own

The suspense in My Daughter Is Missing kept me wondering the entire book, what could possibly be happening here! As Elizabeth frantically searches for her missing 9 year old daughter, this story gets stranger and stranger as Elizabeth does not act like a typical mother with a missing child. She avoids calling the police, leaving the readers speechless with her antics. It’s obvious that Elizabeth is running from something or someone from her past, but the question is who or what is she running from. And is it so bad, that she would risk seeking to find her daughter on her own with no help from the authorities. Meanwhile, her sister Sasha is conducting her own investigation simultaneously & they can not be “handling the case” more differently as they are polar opposites.
This story was tense, drew out emotions, suspenseful and had several unexpected twists! Overall, it’s a good read and the narrator did a good job bringing life to Elizabeth & Sasha. Recommend for fans of suspenseful thrillers. Thank you Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for this advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.
My Daughter Is Missing began at a frenzied pace with Holly missing after the school Halloween disco, how could she have walked right past mum Elizabeth at the tuck shop table? More importantly, why can’t Elizabeth involve the police.
What plays out is a gripping roller coaster of events that unfold over a weekend, skeletons are falling out of closets all over the place, the author has thrown in so many twists that I genuinely had no idea how the story would unfold.
I’d have liked a firmer conclusion for the ending. I felt I was guessing facts rather than being told them. To be honest I was a bit confused, I’m sure this was the authors intention rather than it being a flaw, so just personal preference.
The narration on the audiobook is excellent from Carhleen McCarron, she added to the frenzied pace and kept me invested.
Huge thanks to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this audiobook 🎧
Elizabeth is manning the snacks table at her daughter’s school Halloween party when this book begins. She’s trying to ignore Mabel, the insufferable head of the PTA, and trying to forget the argument she and her daughter Hollie had before they left the house. When Hollie comes around, smiling at her and wearing the butterfly costume she made, all is well though. Until it isn’t…
Once the party is over, Hollie is nowhere to be found. Teachers help her search the building, but they come up with nothing. The odd thing is that the snacks table was right by the door - Hollie couldn’t have left the school without Elizabeth seeing her in her big and bright costume. When the head teacher says they should call the police, Elizabeth panics. She knows bringing the police into her life will only lead to problems, so she makes up a story about her partner, Clive, picking Hollie up early.
When Elizabeth gets home, Hollie isn’t there either, and Clive wants to know where she is. Elizabeth makes up a story about a sleepover, then begins her quest to find her daughter. If they don’t show up to school on Monday after her making a big deal of Hollie being missing, the school will definitely be suspicious and call the police. Elizabeth has 60 hours to find her child, or lose her forever.
This kind of plot has been written many times, with a child missing and/or someone with secrets who is unable to turn to the police about anything without risking being caught in their past lies. I figured out one of the twists before the halfway mark, but it was so obvious, I’m not 100% sure that it was a twist. The ending was a big surprise though; there were several things that could have happened to Hollie, but I didn’t see that one coming. Overall, this was an enjoyable page turner, despite the slightly tired plot. Four stars.
(Thank you to Bookouture, JD Kirk and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be published on April 16, 2025.)
DNF - What is even going on!!! At 3hrs in I’ve hacked enough. Unbelievable and just ridiculous not to talk of unlikeable characters. No real backstory and not much happening. Not for me…
My Rating: 2⭐️⭐️ this hurts me… but so underwhelming!! Even the title is boring!!
This is a standalone J.D. Kirk novel, I think out of the more than 20 books I have read of his I have only ever given them less than 3stars 3 times … this one was down at the bottom of the pack. I am so glad it wasn’t part of his Jack Logan series.
Quick round up - Mother loses daughter at school dance, gets call with threats…. We know what you did!! Hand yourself in or the daughter gets it!!
The entire books is Elizabeth running around doing some of the dumbest shit ever looking for her kidnapped daughter. The most interesting part of this book was the sister Sacha who we really didn’t get to dig into at all. Sacha was written more in the style of J.D. Kirk and the rest was very much written for this publishing company (Bookature).
The FMC was annoying and Kirk didn’t really ever capture any angst or fear… it just felt like she was a headless chook waiting for something to happen. AND even when things did happen or people did die… it was like oh… nooo thats awful.. oh well…keep driving.
Kirk can usually invoke all sorts of emotions and really lean on the dark humour while he’s at it. There was no humour, this was very Americanised (assuming the USA doesn’t like his Logan Series because of all the swearing and Scottish slang… unsure) but this was just not it for me.
I had to read it cause I love this authors books but I kind of knew this was going to happen. Like I said above just glad this wasn’t a Jack Logan book… and the next one of those cannot come quick enough.
Overall, I definitely recommend this to people who don’t like the DCI Jack Logan or Robert Hoon novels, if those offend you and you can’t handle swearing or don’t understand Scottish slang (you can google though) then this one is for you. It is a regular popcorn thriller… but if you love J D Kirk’s other novels this one might not hit the mark for you.
This was not your typical missing child thriller, Elizabeth does not behave how a normal parent would when she realizes her daughter has vanished so it’s strange right from the start. She’s worried for sure, she just doesn’t tell anyone, including the police and it’s clear that she has secrets she’s willing to go to great lengths to hide. So I definitely judged her the whole time, she’s not a likable character but she was interesting for sure. The pacing here was on the fast side with short chapters and plenty of action. It did veer into some outlandish turns but some of the twists were solid so it all kind of balanced out for me in the end. If you want a thriller with a pretty fresh angle try this, I really haven’t read anything else exactly like it and I always appreciate that, I just wish it would’ve been a bit more grounded and not so silly.
I love (so much that I have bought every one) of JD Kirk’s novels (Logan and Hoon series) but I’m not a particular fan of his standalone psychological books.
Kirk writing as a female protagonist doesn’t gel well with me, particularly if they seem to be making irrational and illogical choices. These choices then quickly reveal the underlying secret twist of the plot. Both of which I had before half away.
Solid writing, good psychological aspects but I miss the black-humour, take life with a “bucket of salt” attitude and the interpersonal relationships.
I’ll stick to buying the series and borrowing the standalone.
This was a good popcorn thriller. It was quick paced, had short chapters and was full of tension. There was plenty of action and twists. In fact, the tension builds immediately as Elizabeth's daughter goes missing from a school party, in broad daylight. But Elizabeth says that they cannot get the authorities involved. That felt off to me. And it should. That's the premise of this one. Elizabeth has secrets and she is full on panicking. What has she done in her past that she wouldn't want the help to find her daughter? This book is suspenseful and twisted. Some of these twists are a bit outlandish but sometimes that's what makes the book fun, and I was able to look past that. Others were awesome. I had no idea what was going to happen next. I had a good time reading this one. You have unlikeable characters, drama, secrets and lies. I would've liked a few things to be explained at the end, but overall it's a great thriller to escape into.
Thank you to the publisher for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own.
I received this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
I have read this Author's books before and i really enjoyed them. I Was really excited when I got approved for this one and I'm so glad I did. I couldn't read it fast enough. An utterly amazing read with lots of twists and turns. I'm giving it 4.5 stars as I would of liked to know things that weren't explained in parts. But a great thriller and will be recommending to members of the plot thickens book club on facebook and Instagram.
How could Hollie have passed by me and gotten out the door? She had on a huge butterfly costume that was hard to miss.
When Elizabeth realized her daughter was missing, she frantically looked everywhere in the school but found nothing.
Sooo...why won't she call the police to help with her daughter's disappearance?
What does Elizabeth have to hide?
And then onto the scene came Sasha, Elizabeth's sister. She is wicked and evil.
MY DAUGHTER IS MISSING got quite violent and viscious once Sasha arrived.
I wanted to tell Elizabeth to stop pretending Hollie is ok and get the police involved.
It is a tense, nerve wracking read that could have been shorter and less brutal, but the storyline will keep you turning the pages because you have to find out what is going on. 4/5
Thank you to the publisher for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
What is even happening! Elizabeth’s 9 year old daughter Hollie is missing. Apparently they had gotten into a fight and mom has some secrets. She says she will do anything to find her daughter, but proceeds to illogically blame everyone for her disappearance while trying to find Hollie herself. But, there is no reason she would create such chaos and not alert the police to help her.
Elizabeth’s sister Sasha is insane! I almost thought she was an Elizabeth’s split personality.
There is no backstory at all. The book just eludes to some mysterious nefarious past. But, nothing that connects to what would happen to Holly. The author provides no information to help the reader try to guess what is happening.
If this was not an ARC I would have DNFed it.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. It will be published April 16, 2025.
I was so excited to receive a book from JD Kirk as I have heard good things about this DCI Logan series. I couldn’t wait to get stuck in. Elizabeth goes to pick up her nine-year-old daughter Hollie from her school Halloween disco. But when she gets there, he is gone. A mother would then tell the teachers that she can’t find her daughter, But Elizabeth can’t tell anyone because of the secrets she is hiding. She then goes on an action-packed journey to find her daughter, with the help of her sister Sasha and anonymous texts and videos of her daughter kept in captivity. Threaten to tell the truth of an incident which happened several years ago. Woah, this is my first book that I have read from the author and all the good things I have heard about him is so true. This not a normal typical run of the mill story about a missing daughter. This is a tense thriller of a ride story of one mother’s journey to do what ever it takes to find her daughter. This is a brilliant page turner, that had me at the edge of my seat. 5 stars from me.
I was so excited to read this! J.D Kirk writes one of my favourite detective series - The DCI Logan series and The Robert Hoon books also deserve a special mention for being hilarious 😂 so getting this arc felt very special!
Some thoughts :
- As usual I love the writing style. It’s easy to follow, doesn’t use complicated or complex language but it’s balanced out with description and detail that gives you what you need without being overkill. I will say this was so different from what I’m used to from this author but I still enjoyed.
- This had a great premise. Elizabeth certainly had her own secrets and I enjoyed the pace throughout this. I just didn’t have the sense when reading that I was completely gripped or immersed in the story. Something was missing for me.
- The ending was messy. It didn’t feel like it was really explained in the way I wanted it to be. I did love the twist and reveal in this, i could see how it made sense but it also then left me wondering about all the those things that weren’t explained. Like weird Alan? I do think it has some plot holes or just things that I wish had been wrapped up in the epilogue.
- My biggest issue with this book was entirely my own bias. I absolutely love the DCI Logan series so for me, I don’t feel like this is even comparable in the same way. This just doesn’t give me that feeling that the authors other writing does. As a stand alone, I enjoyed it. It was a great palette cleanser and I’m glad I’ve read it! But it wouldn’t ever be my favourite from this author!
Thank you again to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I was given the opportunity to listen to the audiobook version through Netgalley and Bookouture Audio. At first, I didn't care for the narrator. She had a very Scottish accent and used the same voice for all the characters. But as the book continued, the voices started to change a little. And then, I got an image in my head that Rowena from Supernatural was reading to me, and then I had no issues with the narrator, lol. But this book! 😳😲 If you are looking for a psych thriller that will keep you guessing and on your toes, this is it! I had 3 different theories early on, and one was actually correct. However, that took nothing away from this story, because it wasn't revealed until the last 5% of the book (audio actually goes to 105%). I loved the characters. The setting wasn't discussed much so I really couldn't envision anything but something like a stage set. My 14 year old daughter made me finish listening to the last 40% at one sitting. She was invested. I absolutely recommend this book.
This book was wild!! I received this book from @bookouture on behalf of the author in exchange for an honest review.
The first psychological thriller from a best-selling crime author, I flew through this. With a fast and pacy plot and intriguing characters, this book was both enjoyable and bingeable.
I expected one of the many twists from the start (go me!) but the rest of it was a rollercoaster and thoroughly enjoyed it! 🤯
Releasing on the 16th of April, I highly recommend you pick this one up when it’s out! Thank you to both the publisher and author for my copy.
It took me a while to get into this one, honestly, even though the little girl goes missing fairly early. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I figured out one of the big twists early on? That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I wasn’t hooked trying to figure out that particular aspect. I dunno. But pacing wise I felt like it picked up in the second half. And the bad guy, never placed that one! Overall, a good suspense novel that has you suspecting everyone.
Elizabeth will do anything to protect her daughter, but she disappeared from under her nose. Frantic, but with dark secrets to hide, she can’t contact the police. So she starts searching for Hollie herself, even if that means calling in Sasha: her sister who jumps to violence as an answer, always. But that might just be what she needs to get her daughter back safely.
Thank you to Bookoutoure for the copy, all thoughts are my own.
3.5 stars. JD Kirk’s writing is incredible and I really recommend his DCI Jack Logan series. But this standalone novel fell a bit flat for me. I read it quickly; around 2 hours, but I felt like it leaned too heavily on psychological thriller tropes and he’s far better in the crime/mystery genre.
I hated the twist at the end, and honestly didn’t find anything about it magnificent like I usually do. Overall, a bit flat and predictable but a good afternoon escape.
This is a great psychological thriller. Elizabeth is helping at a school party and can see her daughter in the hall having a good time. However, when it comes to home time, Hollie is nowhere to be found. Elizabeth frantically searches for her but soon has to accept that someone has taken her. When she arrives home her partner questions where Hollie is but as Elizabeth is hiding quite a lot from him, she adds another lie to the list and says she’s staying with a friend. It’s not clear at first why Elizabeth can’t go to the Police but there’s a hint that something major happened in her past. Her twin sister Sasha is trying to work out where Hollis is too but it’s soon clear she’s not afraid to kill people, to get the answers she wants. I really enjoyed this book but would’ve liked more clarification around some aspects towards the end of the book. Thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.
My Daughter Is Missing is the author’s first dabble into the psych thriller genre. As the DCI Jack Logan books are one of my favourite series, I was eager to dive in.
The book starts with a familiar scene, the PTA fundraising disco. Elizabeth has drawn the short straw, manning the snack table; the self appointed Queen Bee, Mabel Walker, allocating her the worst job. Meaning she is unable to see her daughter, Hollie, enjoying herself. As the monotonous evening draws to a close, it becomes apparent that Hollie has inexplicably disappeared.
The story starts at a pace, wasting no time. Hollie’s disappearance and Elizabeth’s desperate search for her, raise many questions. It quickly becomes clear that Elizabeth is hiding secrets. Secrets that have put her beloved daughter at risk, and secrets that make her isolated in her fear.
The characterisation is as good as you would expect from JD Kirk. The cast are all fully formed individuals, with their quirks and insecurities in tow. Though Elizabeth’s backstory is intentionally vague.
The narration is strong and sinister, giving a good sense of place, keeping me interested. Each character is distinctive and nuanced. Mabel’s voice in particular is perfect. When I hear it, it feels like someone is running their nails down a blackboard, which is how Elizabeth must feel when she hears her voice too.
I found myself a little frustrated during the middle part of the book. The story started at a pace, but then didn’t seem to progress at the same level, though the twists and turns kept coming. As the pages keep turning, everyone’s secrets are revealed in all their glory.
I found the ending to be slightly ambiguous, the intention possibly being for readers to join up the dots in their own minds. I did see part of the plot, before the reveal, but maybe this was part of the plan of the author. I love reading the DCI Jack Logan series, and I wanted to love this book too, but I just don’t think I was the right fit for the book. I can’t quite put my finger on why, but I didn’t quite connect with it.
I have always enjoyed books by J D Kirk. This is the exception. I found it very slow and it was so predictable throughout. If you didn’t guess the major twist good for you - you probably enjoyed it.
Elizabeth’s daughter has gone missing. She is panicked, she can’t find her after the school disco. The teachers ask should they call the police. She’s says no. She’s made a mistake and her partner picked up Hollie. The police can’t know. No one can know. She’s knows in her gut Hollie has been taken, someone knows about Elizabeth’s past. Now she must find Hollie herself before it’s too late.
Well, this has kept me up late the last few nights as I just couldn’t put it down. This is a really fast paced, gripping read. It has really short chapters so you fly through it. I didn’t see the twist coming at all, which is always good when I’m left surprised.
This is obviously every parent’s worst nightmare, that moment where you can’t see your child and the panic you go through. What kept me hooked to this is the reason why she wouldn’t go to the police. As a parent I’d want to do everything I could to find my child and going to the police would be an obvious choice. But Elizabeth’s complete avoidance of them just made me so intrigued as to what was so bad in her past that despite her daughter being in danger she couldn’t go to the police. That’s what kept me up late, reading as fast as I could because I just had to know what the secrets were.
Most of the chapters are written from Elizabeth’s POV, but we also get some from her sister, Sasha’s POV. These were some of my favourite parts of the book. Sasha is unhinged and it made for great reading. Her dark humour and dry wit was entertaining, you just didn’t know what she would do next.
Thank you so much to @bookouture for sending me an advance copy of this. This is a brilliant, gripping thriller and I’d definitely recommend it!
This was my first JD Kirk read and it was a deeply dark and twisty tale. The action starts in the first chapter when single mum Elizabeth’s nine-year-old daughter Hollie goes missing at her school’s Halloween disco. Elizabeth vows to get her back, whatever it takes. And it takes more than she could have ever bargained for. Just as well her mysterious sister Sasha, who doesn’t take kindly to bullies, has turned up to help. The bodies soon start to pile up, secrets are revealed and justice is meted out. I do enjoy an unreliable narrator – and Elizabeth certainly ticks that box. I did guess the big twist fairly early on, but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the book. Well-written and darkly humorous in places, it reminded me of a TM Logan or John Marrs thriller, with a bit of added gore.
This story revolves around Elizabeth and Hollie…a mother daughter duo.
When Hollie goes missing after her schools Halloween celebration, her Mom, understandably, blows a gasket. She’s looking for her everywhere, and has the whole school staff looking too. But then, she stops looking, and tells everyone her partner picked up her daughter. She FORGOT. WAIT….WHAT?????????
This is literally the first FIVE MINUTES of the book…so not a spoiler. The whole book revolves around ‘my daughter is missing!’
BUT, just the same…. This was my first red flag! Why?? I’d have the school. The police. The FBI. The WORLD looking for my child!!!! What the heck is going on here?? And we spend the entire rest of the book trying to figure that out! 😮
Sorry to say that this was not for me…
Although I loved the premise of the story, and the first half to two thirds of it, after that I feel like it just went off the rails. I totally understand that this IS fiction, but when you go from totally relatable to completely off the wall… well, that’s just not for me…
Plus, I kind of suspected what was going on, but still, even after reading the book AND sleeping on it overnight before posting my review, I STILL don’t understand or relate to how that could even be possible???
So, because of that, I’m being pretty stingy with my stars this time… 2 1/2 ⭐️⭐️💫 for me, rounded up to 3! Because I’m not giving a great review, I’ll limit my posting to Goodreads, NetGalley and my own IG account.

"My Daughter is Missing" by J.D. Kirk is a psychological thriller. It is set in England near London and in modern times.
Elizabeth's 9 year old daughter, Hollie, disappears from a Halloween party at school. Because of some secrets in her past, Elizabeth doesn't want to get the police involved.
She enlists the help of her sister, Sasha, to find Hollie. Sasha has rather violent methods to interrogate suspects.
None of the main characters are very likable. I wasn't able to relate to any of them.
I figured out the biggest twist very early on. The rest of it was still pretty interesting.
I would recommend this to readers who love thrillers.
Cathleen McCarron did a very good job with the narration of the audiobook.
Characters - 4/5 Writing - 3/5 Plot - 4/5 Pacing - 3/5 Unputdownability - 3/5 Enjoyment - 3/5 Narration - 4/5 Cover - 3/5 (the girl on the cover looks much younger than Hollie) Overall - 27/8= 3 3/8 rounded to 3 stars
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture Audio, and J.D. Kirk for providing this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
Elizabeth’s little girl, Hollie, is missing from school, and she can’t tell the police. The shock of Hollie’s disappearance without a trace truly shakes Elizabeth, but there’s a bigger threat at play. Elizabeth has a secret, and she knows it’s behind Hollie’s abduction.
Elizabeth is torn between anger at herself and the school officials for not keeping a closer eye on her daughter. Regardless, she knows that chaos is about to break loose, and she’ll do anything to find Hollie. Panic has set in, but she knows she must remain calm and strategic.
If you’re looking for a book that will keep you guessing from the very beginning, J.D. Kirk’s latest book is the one for you. While it wasn’t difficult to imagine Elizabeth’s fears, the fact that the entire situation stemmed from her secret made this a truly intriguing read.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
4.5 ⭐️ Thank you to Bookouture for sending me a copy of this book on behalf of the author.
A woman’s 9 year old daughter goes missing after a school disco but she can’t tell anyone for fear of her secret being revealed. This book had me hooked from the beginning and I just couldn’t put it down with the super short chapters and the fast pace. I had questions all the way through this of what could be going on or happening and trying to guess the secret. I quite like how it ended and wonder if it was meant to have been left a bit ambiguous. Definitely one to check out if your into a fast paced thriller
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for allowing me to read this for free in exchange for an honest review.
I liked this book and the premise. It kept me guessing and interested from page to page. However, I found it incredibly predictable. The main character was almost insufferable and for that reason I really struggled to connect with the story and stay engaged. The road to finding her daughter was a long one with lots of twists and turns. The ending just doesn't sit well with me either. It was predicatable and then for me had an unrealistic ending. Overall, it was solid read and well written, just was not for me.
