Izzie Bennet has a problem, and his name is Jackson Darcy, the Miami Lions captain, and the best man at her sister’s wedding. He believes Izzie’s sister is a gold digger who’s only marrying the awkward goalie for his money.

Darcy is determined to save his best friend. Izzie is hellbent on telling him to shove his condescending attitude where the sun don’t shine.

But when disaster strikes and Darcy swoops in to save the day, she begins to see him in a different light.

Can she look past all the awful things he’s done and accept that maybe he’s not as bad as she thought? And perhaps it’s also okay to get railed by him?

As a fan of Jane Austen particularly Pride and Prejudice I adored this book. It was a fun twist that had me hooked from the start.

I loved the Bennet sisters right from the beginning and from the moment Jackson and Izzie meet you know he has met his match. They have an undeniable attraction to each other that they are fighting due to mainly Jackson’s actions and grumpiness. When he makes the ultimate mistake they are thrown together to fix his problem you can see they aren’t as different.

They have great chemistry and banter and even though we didn’t see much of Chad and Jane’s relationship I couldn’t help but root for them. I cannot wait to see who is next.

As a lover of all things Jane Austen, especially Pride and Prejudice I knew I had to read this book!

Michelle did an amazing job at giving us the heart of P&P but putting her own special twist. Izzie and Jackson may be attracted to each other at first but it quickly turns to hate and each interaction becomes tense and full of angst. I loved that even though they saw things through different lenses that it’s what drove them and fueled their hunger for the other.

So many beautiful and yummy twists in this book and I can not wait to see who is next because these boys…..they are going to be fun!

Puck and Prejudice
Written by Michelle Hercules

I'm hooked on this version of Pride and Prejudice meets hockey romance. I love the fun new twist especially since I'm a huge Hockey Romance fan and Pride and Prejudice is one of my top 10 favorite movies.

I adore Lizzie Bennet already. She's a hard worker and is just trying to get by until she finishes her veterinarian residency.I can't get enough of interactions between her and Jackson, the captain of the Miami Lions Hockey Team. I can't wait to see how Michelle will take this story because I'm always ready for an enemies to lovers romance and I bet this one will be no different.

As soon as I opened up the ebook I was hooked from start to finish and I didn't want to put it down. I finished it in a day so that says a lot about how lost I got into this book. I love how Michelle went about writing this book. This will become a comfort read for me. It has all the Pride and Prejudice vibes along with all aspects I love about hockey romance too.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

I LOVED Michelle Hercules’s book Puck & Prejudice inspired by Jane Austin’s Pride & Prejudice. Izzy Bennet loves her family. She looks out for them and carefully keeps her eye out to stop others from messing with them. Jackson Darcy is captain of his hockey team, the Lions, and takes his role seriously, protecting his friends on and off the ice. When their worlds collide with Izzy’s sister, Jane, and Jackson’s goalie and best friend, Chad, getting engaged after secretly dating for months, they find themselves at odds with each other.

One of the reasons I love Michelle’s writing is because despite a deep, emotional, and serious roadblocks in her stories, things remain light and full of intrigue. I love the way her mind works! These two faced a few things but pride was always the worst. I loved the banter, the Kaminski twins, and the similarities in story lines.

I also loved the hockey team and their closeness. I can’t wait to learn more about them. I finished this book smiling.

A perfect Jane Austen retelling!
This book is awesome, I love it! I really like the characters, especially Izzie and Jackson. The story is so good, made me laugh so bad with their banter.

Changed Mr. Darcy into a NHL player and horse rancher but kept Mr. Wickham a child predator. You know - for literary accuracy of course.

⭐️⭐️½ (2.5 stars)

I love Pride and Prejudice and will forever read or watch any adaptation or reimagining of it. Truly—no self-control when it comes to Austen-inspired stories.

Puck & Prejudice is a cute, feel-good take, and Izzie and Jackson’s story had its moments. The vibes were cozy, the premise was fun, and I’ll admit the Kickstarter edition I own is absolutely gorgeous. A+ on aesthetics.

That said… the execution fell short for me.

The writing felt very repetitive, especially in word choice. Nearly every kissing scene started with some variation of “slanted their mouth,” which stood out in a not great way—and once I noticed it, I couldn’t un-notice it. The book also could have benefited from more editing. I’m usually pretty forgiving with typos and grammatical errors, but there were enough that they became distracting.

Character-wise, this follows the familiar Pride and Prejudice blueprint: an icky Wickham, a flirty and naïve Lydia, and clear stand-ins for Bingley and his sisters. While I appreciated those nods, what I missed most was the sharp banter and slow-burn tension between Izzie and Jackson. Instead of delicious arrogance and verbal sparring, their relationship leaned more toward instalust with minor inconveniences (beer spray incidents and accidental bathroom lock-ins included).

Some conflicts—like Jackson interfering in Jane and Chad’s relationship—were also resolved far too quickly, which lowered the stakes and made the story feel rushed.

Overall, it was an okay read and a fun concept, but it didn’t quite live up to my expectations—especially as a die-hard Austen fan. Cute, pretty, and pleasant… but I’ll always show up for a Pride and Prejudice retelling—and this one had me longing for sharper tongues, slower burns, and far fewer “slanted mouths.”

a good effort but fell flat

As a big Austen fan and also a fan of hockey romance, I was really excited by the premise of this novel! Unfortunately, I think it fell short of my expectations– the writing, the world building, and the character development were all pretty weak. A better version of this novel could benefit from a few things: 1) Not having Jackson demonize sex workers off the bat?? I really didn’t root for him as a love interest after that. 2) Addressing the fragmented world building and plot elements. I don’t think there was much thought put into how key themes and plot from P&P would be integrated into this story. Half the time we’re bouncing back and forth between provincial, regent-esque settings and then suddenly being thrust into a club or bar. It’s really confusing and makes it pretty hard to situate yourself in any one place or time as a reader. The syntax is very confusing as well– again, it’s just jarring to see some dialogue being written as if it was stolen directly from Bridgerton (which, some of it was, ie “I burn for you” type thing) and in the next page we read modern slang and colloquialisms. 3) Fixing the follow up of Jackson’s garbage behavior at the start of the novel? It seems like everyone very quickly forgave him for a crazy invasion of privacy and massive overstep. He is immediately so, so unlikable.

I gave it two stars because the smut is fun and overall, it’s an earnest enough effort at writing. Yet, it reads like the author just watched Bridgerton and haphazardly fit those puzzle pieces into a hockey romance outline.

such a great kick off to the series

I love that every hockey series Michelle releases is entirely different but keeps the found family vibes and gives us much needed cameos from beloved characters. Kaminski twins, say less.

This book focuses on the professional hockey team, Miami Lions, and their captain Jackson Darcy. He has his eye on the Cup but is knocked off his axis when his best friend and teammate announces that he is getting married and his fiancée’s sister, Izzie, left quite a distaste in his mouth after they met.

Izzie is equally surprised about her sisters announcement but while she is super supportive, she has some stern words to Jackson who decides to meddle and is trying to backtrack when he realizes his error. The more they are in each others company though the harder it is for them to deny the attraction between them.

This was a rollercoaster that I loved being on. We have two independent MC’s that realize they need to work on their communication to really solidify their bond. But I will say when Jackson decides what he wants, he really brings the swoon.

The secondary characters really helped throughout this journey and we are given some top tier banter. I found myself cheering hard for their highs and feeling a little emotionally beaten in their lows. The connection I felt with these characters had me devouring this book quickly and I can’t wait for this series to continue.

Meh. It was OK. Not a fan of the fmc

Possible spoilers (even though it's pretty predictable)

I'm a big fan of Pride and Prejudice so when I saw she did a retelling i was super excited. For me, i think it fell a bit flat. I wasn't a big fan of Izzy especially after rejecting Darcy and the reasoning for it. I get it's not exactly the same as the original but I didn't like her reaction to him expressing his feelings and then the quick getting back together. I think HE should've made HER grovel a bit. I think the whole Lydia thing at the end was glossed over, like can they put some blame on her too? (NOT SAYING WICKHAM WASN'T IN THE WRONG AT ALL) But they did say they thought Lydia was enjoying herself. The hockey aspect was mostly accurate. There were also a few typos. I think the ending was a bit rushed as well.

This book was infuriating and not in a good way. There were a lot of typos which I could’ve ignored if I didn’t hate the male main character so much! It was mentioned many times how his attitude did a “180.” It’s true, however, the 180 was completely unbelievable. There was no hint of goodness in the man and all of a sudden everyone’s happy and pining?? The book had potential to be decent but didn’t quite make it.

I knew 100 pages in that this book was going to get 2 stars from me no matter how much the MMC redeemed himself. No thank you.

Also, the dialogue was unbelievable at times. Sometimes it sounded like they were trying to speak from a different time which was part of the Pride and Prejudice aspect of the story… didn’t work well.

Dnf at 52%.

the writing was jarring and cringey. the dialogue was awful and clunky.

key phrases that ended this read for me:

mmc thinks it's going to "rain cats & dogs" in Chapter 17, page 91 in Kindle.

fmc tells mmc to "Why don’t you stick your favor up where the sun don’t shine." Chapter 10, page 56 on Kindle.

just why with these phrases?! how old are these MCs? No one under 60 are saying these clichés.

I wanted to like this. it sounded so good. but the writing left *much* to be desired and I just couldn't continue any longer.

This book was a GREAT read. I loved how Michelle wove in the classic pride and prejudice into this modern retelling. The banter and whit is top tier excellence. I devoured this book and want to read it again. There are tender moments in here as well as some steamy scenes that you'll need a fan for.
If you are a lover of Pride and Prejudice, then you NEED this book in your collection. This is a top retelling for me. I can't wait to read more!!

Michelle has done it again with an awesome read. Although I never read Pride and Prejudice I thought this was a really enjoyable read. I love the characters and how they all came together. I enjoyed it also because it brought back memories of the 2024 Stanley Cup win and celebration. I have read many books of Michelle’s and I have enjoyed them all. This was so worth the read. I look forward to her next book.

Very Cute

It's a very cute book. I love the plot and Jackson's sassiness. The only reason it got 4 stars is because there are quite a lot of grammatical errors. I don't think they proofread the book before publishing it. Other than that, it's a great book.

Definitely needed a proofreader, and some of the writing was repetitive (never thought I’d read “elevator glance” 4 times in one book). Not a horrible book but not great either.

Hockey and Jane Austen…what’s not to love. Jackson Darcy and Izzie Bennett are top tier couples. I loved everything about this reimagining of Pride and Prejudice, the banter, the plot and the spice!! I cannot wait to read more of this series. Michelle Hercules definitely knows to write plot and spice.
