"A man has his secrets." -Vasily Kavlov

Anatoly Medlov's Head of Security and friend, Vasily Kavlov comes out of the shadows to protect "Vasily's Lilly" in "Vasily's Revenge (The Medlov Men #1)" from her abusive ex-husband and mobster, Leo Rasputin! But shockingly, Vasily discovered he is the father of Lilly's son, Dylan where the story takes off fast!!!!!!!

From Jackson, MS to Memphis, TN and Chicago, The Medlovs ( Anatoly, Gabriel, Vasily continues to protect Lilly and Dylan from Rasputin and his revenge scheme to get back his diamonds he gave to Lilly before he went to prison and kill her but the Medlov's have other ideas!

And as far as Leo Rasputin is concerned, no one can take a man out better that the elder Medlov with just the mentioning of an one million dollars reward to Leo's man, Taras... the very same soldier who shot Vasily in the lung!

Loved this series too!

What an riveting, fast-paced romantic suspense!!!!

5 Riveting stars!

I am about to jump ship on this series. Vasily story was okay, nothing spectacular.

Gabriel is a piece of sh*t screwing around on Briggy. Ms. Nelson give that woman a backbone. Gabriel does not deserve Briggy.

Make her strong, independent and have him come crawling back on his knees to win her back. Not every Russian has to be with a black woman. Briggy has been too loyal to this family to be discarded like trash.

My Wish: Bring a Black Man in the mix, who is powerful in which he sets his eyes on Briggy and the baby. Make him Gabriel's equal in money and power. Once Briggy's attention is elsewhere, Gabriel will realize his mistake and lose his mind trying to win her back.

I have read all of Latrivia's books except the short stories of Dmitry which I will be reading shortly. I like the way she tells a story.

This is Vasily and Lilly's story. I loved the couple and the whole story.

My only disappointment is with Vasily's judgement of Lilly when she left her son with him and tried to head off their enemy from coming after Vasily and their son. When she left to put herself in harms way for her family Vasily was judging her because of the mistake she had made years ago in their relationship, when she was in another relationship with his boss whom she was afraid of. So while she was risking her life he was doubting her and asked Dmitry to do the test to see if Lilly was telling him the truth. At that point I could have punched Vasily right in the mouth.

Oh well he saw the error of his ways. I enjoyed reading their story.

Vasily's Revenge is the full story (basically the continuation) of the short that was included in the Scandalous Heroes boxed set. The set is no longer available for purchase. Some tweaks were made to Part 1 to incorporate fan feedback, but I pretty much just skimmed and got to Chapter 13 (57%) where the story continues.

In general, this book was...good. It could have been great. I lovvveed the first half. When I reviewed the boxed set, I said that Vasily was sexiness and danger combined and that Ms. Nelson had brought her A game. The second half not, so much. I liked the humor in parts (Royal spilling the beans after 0.5 seconds and Renee's quip, 'Gee Royal, don't crack under pressure' were hilarious) and Ana never fails to make me laugh. The editing, though still not perfect, was much better...but there were issues.

Dmitry. Sigh. What has happened to you? Dmitry loves his wife. We get it; we really do, but he always has! He's been a loving husband and father for 9 1/4 books so this is nothing new either, yet his kindness was never mistaken for weakness. The ladies going behind his back to do what they did not sit well with me. I guess I understand (maybe) why they would try it. I don't understand why Dmitry wouldn't be more stern in the aftermath. Before anyone comes for me, I know Royal is an adult, so it's not like he could 'punish her' but, given the life they live, and the fact that the women pulled a stunt that compromised security and forced the Medlov men into a situation that put them at risk, the lack of reaction was just...ugh. It felt like the wives were running the show and the Medlov men were just chasing their tails playing catch up. "The women aren't helpless and Lilly is resourceful", so that means she can hold her own against a Russian crime boss?? She couldn't even keep her cell phone charged.

Contrary to what some authors think, it is possible to be a good husband and father and still be a Boss that has his house in order. A mafia boss does not have to be all p-whipped to prove he loves his wife and family. He can evolve and be a family man and still maintain some sense of self, without being a tyrant. Catering to your woman is sexy; cowtowing to her is not. Dmitry, please use some of your resources and send a rescue team out for your gonads. I miss them.

Briggy and Gabriel. I don't even know where to start with this. What a travesty. I was reading their argument and I had no idea who these people were. The words coming out of Briggy's mouth didn't sound anything like Briggy, no matter how much Ms. Nelson tried to justify it by saying 'Gabriel had never seen Briggy this mad'. Yeahh no, did she have a lobotomy too? Cause I didn't know who that person was supposed to be. Gabriel talking to her the way he did? How? When?? Why?? The whole thing was ridiculous. I wanted Briggy to stand up for herself, but as Briggy, not whomever that person was that took over her vocal chords. The twist isn't even enough to make me continue with this couple. Sorry, Gabriel.

Ana and Renee...I.can't.even.

Lilly and Vasily. Eh. I guess. I guess the explanation of why she ran off was ok, but I was too irritated with her by that point to care. I appreciate what she wanted to do, but no matter how we spin Lilly's independence and her trying to 'fix things on her own', we all know that Vasily and the others would have gone after her and put themselves in danger, so what she did still annoys me. Lilly could have just been honest with Vasily from the door and saved everyone the stress and aggravation. I love strong female leads, but sometimes being strong means knowing when you are out of our depth with a situation and there are people more equipped to handle it.

That mess with Leo at the end - so anti-climactic and that whole stunt was so unlike Dmitry. Even when dealing with less than virtuous people, Dmitry has always been straightforward about who he is and what he represents. That's why I've loved him for ten...TEN!..books. That whole theatrical business with Leo and his men felt sleazy instead of smart, and was more characteristic of Ivan than Dmitry. Dmitry 1.0 would have just ended Leo and his men and kept it moving, not engaged in that dishonest bait and switch business; Dmitry 2.0 not so much. I felt like I was in the twilight zone with every character in this book. I had no idea who they were. Lilly's actions set things in motion and then all the characters were written out of character, cleaning up her mess.

Lastly, I love the Medlov men something fierce and I love seeing them with their families (loved Vasily's interaction with Dylan), but when mafia books become overrun by wives and babies they lose me. When mafia mayhem and the family angle are in balance it's a beautiful, beautiful thing, otherwise it's just another IR story. John Gotti didn't become a glorified babysitter because he had children. I have been ride or die for this series since Dmitry's Closet. There has only been one Medlov book out of TEN that I have given less than 5 stars, and it was a Chronicles book that felt like a bit of filler. Book 11 (this one) barely made 3 stars. I rode for this series HARD, felt Ms. Nelson always delivered and have turned so many people onto the Medlovs, but this book was not it for me. I may have to stick to the Chronicles when Dmitry was Dmitry.

I originally read part 1 of Vasily's Revenge in the Scandalous Heroes boxed set and it ended with a cliffhanger, so needless to say that I was thrilled when the complete story released! Nelson did not disappoint! Vasily takes center stage in this one and we get more information on his background and what lead him to the Medlov family. In the previous books we only see Vasily as the strong dependable head of security and best friend to Anatoly. However, we now get to see Vasily as more than just the ruthless henchman. We get to see the man behind the guns and calculated violence. No matter how I turn the story around in my mind I think that is all that I can say about the story without spoilers so that's all I'm going to say about the plot of this book.

Latrivia Nelson has built a world of wealth and violence that feels real and I continue to get more and more drawn in with each subsequent book that she releases. I also love that Latrivia gives the African American women in her stories a variety of physical traits. The three women who are now central figures in these stories vary from fair to darker skin, various body shapes, and hair types. This may seem insignificant to some, but with so many women of color wanting to see themselves reflected in the romances that they read, I give Nelson a lot of credit for creating black female characters that feel real and relatable. The characteristics that all of her female characters share is strong resolve and love of the family that they have built from nothing. With them all being involved with domineering, aggressive, and strong willed men these women have to be equally strong but in different ways to make things work; and they do work.

We get little vignettes from all of the couples in this one. Dmitry and Royal, Anatoly and Renee, and Gabrielle and Briggy are all part of this story. Nelson makes it pretty clear that Gabriel may be the next one to get his own book. Things are not well between Gabriel and Briggy and they have some major decisions to make. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and it will be one that I will definitely go back to from time to time. I'll be adding this to my favorites list! There were a few minor editing hiccups but they in no way inhibited my complete happiness with this story.

I read part 1 a few months ago and couldn't wait until part 2 was released. I am absolutely in love with the Medlov crime series. Anatoly, Gabriel, Dmitry, and Vasily - love'em all.

Latrivia has done it again. Not one of these books has ever been a letdown. Sexy, possessive, and dangerous. This series needs to be optioned for television. I am literally on the edge of my seat every time I open one of these books. This one was no different. We've always seen Vasily in the background as head of security, but now we get to read about his past and how he came to be with Dmitry.

We also get to have mini reunions with Royal, Renee, Briggy and the kids. For the sake of not posting a spoiler alert I'll just say Gabriel and Briggy's story is obviously the next up. I CANNOT WAIT! It promises to be oh so delicious.

Once again we see why Dmitry is the Czar of the Underworld.

Nothing get's by him. He knows ALL and is always two steps ahead. He was handling business before Gabriel, Anatoly and Vasily's collective first pubic hair sprouted.

And Leo....I had not an ounce of pity for him.

Well, you sent for Lily so Vasily came as a result. And I was all...

Vasily went straight Predator on the whole situation.

And when the book finally wrapped up. It was all

And some straight mischief managed type of sh*t

And the Epilogue...she set Gabriel/Briggy up so well.

I've always been a fan of Latrivia Nelson and have purchased and read every book by the author. But reading Vasily's Revenge was almost like reading about an entirely different family - Who Were Not The MEDLOV's. If this had been my first book by the author, I may have enjoyed it a bit more, and may have found the actions of the main characters endearing, but since this is not my first rodeo, everyone was doing things that were so unlike them. I think my exact quote at the time I was reading was "I must be caught in the Matrix, who are these ppl?"

Now, here's what I liked: Dylan is an awesome child and Lilly and Vasily are lucky to have him and each other. Lilly tried her best to fix a situation that was out of control because of her previous actions... Although her biggest resource was the love of her life!

What had me on the fence about VR: The editing; although there were fewer errors than in part one, there were still obvious issues. Hopefully these will be corrected in future volumes. The whole "showdown" between Briggy and Gabe! Now for Gabe to have ALWAYS been a respectable man towards women, even strangers, it left a bad taste in my mouth to see him talk to Briggy that way! And it was so out of character... Who is this new and definitely not approved Gabe? Then, to have Briggy on some "I'm cussing you out, Gabe" mess was almost laughable.... That was not believable at all! And when it was all over, I almost wanted to read it over to check out the characters names.

And boy oh boy... What is happening to my dear Ana and Renee? I won't say that it isn't necessary for Ana to change somewhat because he's a husband and father, but he's gone all Mr. Softee on us and I almost feel like I'm reading a general romance novel, not one about a Russian Mob Crime Family.

Lastly, the ending was anti-climactic; there was this huge build up to Leo and Lilly's tumultuous relationship, yet, they never even interacted with each other to have closure, nor am I quite sure what happened with Leo's death! It kind of felt like this is going to show how serious the Medlov's are, when all I got was how "in-love" and at-risk they are because of that love.

I am looking forward to Gabe and Briggy's story and hopefully by then, they'll be back to normal and we'll get to see them either have an ending with each other or a new beginning with someone else!

All things come full circle!!!

I eagerly waited and anticipated Vasily's Revenge when I read his story in the "Scandalous Heroes Box Set" over the summer. So when his full story finally dropped I was too stoked for words and let the reading begin.

You got glimpses of Vasily from the previous Medlov stories not enough to go on but catches here and there. You knew that Vasily was the right hand man and best friend to Anatoly. You knew that he was muscle and heat but you didn't know anything else about him. A man that appeared to have no story but oh how we were fooled because he has a major story and it draws you in.

We find Vasily not only was in love and still in love with one woman but also had a son (Unbeknownst to him) which was revealed in the beginning of the summer. Lilly and Dylan that Vasily know has sworn to protect his family but Lilly has skeletons in her closet that she must deal with in order to finally be free of her past of an ex-husband who is in the mob, stolen diamonds and a cut throat man. What is a woman to do but seek restitution for what was done against the man she loved and making sure her child is safe from all harm. What Lilly didn't realize is that she no longer had to do it on her own, she had Vasily and he is not a man to be trifled with. He was hell bent on destruction of Leo Rasputin, Yakov and getting Lilly back safely.

My newest little buddy is Dylan, Vasily's son whom I love...This boy is so smart, cute and funny but has a very old soul. He is exactly who and what Vasily needs to soothe his battered soul and heart.

You see the women of the Medlov manner have some tricks of their own as well, they had joined forces to help out Lilly because each woman understood about going out on a limb for family. The men weren't happy but they understood LOL!!!

I finally got to see Briggy stand up for herself (which was so great for me), I think people talk mess about her because she isn't black (honestly that is my opinion) and they believe all of the Mob should be with black women LOL!!! Truthfully it is up to the author who she writes for each man. Back to Briggy, I was glad to see her finally stand up. They way things happened with her from the beginning of the books shows her really just having her mother only as family, once her mom passes away its just her. To see her trying to survive in a world on her was disheartening, the way she went about things wasn't the best but it happened. I think she is finally growing up and into herself, I think Gabriel got a taste of his own medicine finally but their was a real vulnerability and truth coming out of him that he was finally owning up to.

All of the men were vulnerably transparent in this story which made it even more incredible and I was glad to see that. It was an amazing story and I can't wait for the next book in the "Medlov Men Series"

Well, I really wanted this to be better than it was. My main issue with it was that the Medlov men were much different than usual. It was more like they were clones of the real thing. Dmitry and Anatoly asking the girls nicely if they knew were Lily was, not being upset that the women went behind their back. Those aren't my men. I won't even mention Gabriel. Him and Briggy seemed so insignificant in the story even though they had a big part. Anatoly is not warm and cuddly and that is what it seemed like he was portrayed as in this book. He was always a hard ass but he definitely was not in this story. What happened?

Why were the women running the house? No, no, no!

Dmitry...my man Dmitry. I just don't know. This was not my man that shot someone at the board table, then drank some water and continued the meeting. This Dmitry was too soft, too nonchalant, too un-Dmitry. Granted there was a glimpse of the real Dmitry in the end when he handled everything but it wasn't even the old Dmitry. Since it was so unlike him the rest of the story, I was happy to see anything. I still love him.

*shaking my head* Lily. *sigh* Just WTH? She was ridiculous and made horrible decisions and the Medlov men handled it like regular thugs on the street and not the hardcore mobsters they used to be. I did like Vasily but I have a feeling he is going to be a softy in this series just like the other men. No thank you.

If this branch of the Medlov series continues, I will have to call it the kinder and gentler version of the men. I want no part in it. I want the hardcore, smart, revengeful, don't take any crap men. Those are my babies. These men in this book are just not the same.

Maybe, I should talk about the plot instead of so much of the characters. It was okay. Typical woman running from a bad man and she thinking she can handle it herself when she should know she can't. I would give this a 2.85 but I rounded up to a 3.

**Contains minor spoilers**

This book was soo good! I missed the Medlov men and was so happy to see Vasily finally get his own story. I love how these beautiful, black women turn these killer Russian dudes out lol. I never thought I'd see the softer, romantic side of Vasily, and it was nice to catch up with all the couples of the Medlov saga.

I did wish Vasily could have personally taken Leo out, but he got his, and good!!! Now... I need dark horse Gabriel to have his own story. He's still fighting his own demons feeling inadequate as a Medlov while still coming to terms with his position in the family. You can still see that internal tug-of-war he has between doing what is right and doing what is expected. Also, I'm glad Gabriel realizes Briggy is not the one for him. She will forever be in one with Anatoly, and he deserves better. He needs a ride or die like Royal. Good story!

The first half of the book was good, but I already read it in scandalous heroes box set. The rest story was just blah. I didn't recognize the Medlov men, they seemed like totally different characters. There wasn't enough of Vasily & Lily story for me, it just seemed incomplete. Gabe & Briggy was the biggest disappointment for me. At this point I wish that Briggy realized her worth & found someone who can respect & love her. Briggy has been loyal to this family & to me she is more apart of this family then Gabe. I'm hesitant to continue with the series. I would like to point out that not all of the Medlov men need to be married to black women, it seems contrive and a little unrealistic.

If you are a fan of the Medlov Crime Series Vasily Kavlov, needs no introduction. He has been in the shadows for as long as I can remember, guarding and watching the backs of the Medlov men. As Anatoly’s right hand man he is defiantly in the inner circle of the family and Anatoly loves him like a brother, so when he sees that his old boss has broken out of prison, Vasily knows exactly where he is headed. Lily Rasputin is woman in hiding. Many years ago, her husband shot and “killed” Vasily as he tried to protect her from his abuse. Believing he was dead, Lily waited for the opportunity to extract her own revenge on Leo. When he is arrested, Lily wastes no time in divorcing him and turning states evidence sending him to jail forever. Leo, now incarcerated, sends his hit man Yakov, to kill his deceitful wife. Lily knowing who sent Yakov and why, Lily offers him a deal, help her flee her demonic ex and she will give him 20 million in uncut diamonds Leo gave her when he was arrested. Yakov accepts the deal, but he wants more than just the diamonds. He takes Lily to Memphis and a very much alive Vasily to hide her. Now,Leo has broken out of jail and he wants his diamonds and his ex-wife’s head. With permission to take leave from his duties as #1 hit man, Vasliy races to Mississippi, to protect Lily, but Lily has a surprise of her own. Now hiding out in the Medlov compound the men strategize on how to take out Leo, while Lily finds the allies she need in the Medlov woman and the love she never let go in Vasily.
This was a very good book and it was long overdue. Vasily has been a major part of the family for some time and it was wonderful to get a glimpse at the man behind the gun and I love him. The story was so good and I feel like I waited an eternity for it. I read the 1st part in the Scandalous Heroes Box Set: Sensual Romance and was panting at the end. I could not wait to finish this story. The character of Vasliy was developed and fleshed out so well and Lily, well she was not at all who I would picture our favorite enforcer with but it worked. Only you Latrivia Nelson would have me over here falling in love and rooting for a mob hitman and a woman of question integrity but you did. But the awesomeness of this book continued with my favorite Russian mob boss Anatoly and his sassy wife Renee, I really cannot wait to read more about these two and what will happen when she finds out about her Ana history with Briggy? And speaking of Briggy what is really going on with her and what will Gabriel do now she is caring his child? What will Dmitry do? So many questions and I am chomping at the bit to find out. I really really can’t wait for more.

I didn't want Vasily to end up with Lilly from the very beginning. It's never good to get into a domestic situation but for the woman to go back it's even worse. I sure didn't want her around the rest of the Medlov's because she was just too flighty and even with the twist and turns in the story it just didn't make sense for her to stick around. The situation with Leo and Yakov was a mess but after Leo did what he did in the beginning I figured it would all be messy. Yakov I think got a bad deal seeing that he actually did hold his end of the bargain up. Leo was a fool from the second he walked in though, he should've thought carefully when he was invited in. I knew Gabriel was in a world of mess with Briggy but I'd like to see what happens now seeing that it seems to be out in the open. Still trying to figure out what Dmitry has on him though, and why Vasily is so put off with him. I would hope that it's not going to be the same double cross thing because we've read enough of those types of situations. Great story though.

She does it again

This story tells how a cool and stoic man who never dreamed he could be lucky in love, not only finds love but love with the woman he's dreamed of. He is surprised when emotions starts bubbling forth that he never knew he had towards his lady love and their son. This story just proves that the greatest and most satisfying emotion we have is love.

NOTE: after re-reading on 11 August 2024. It's been a long time since I first read "Vasily's Revenge." I'd forgotten how he waited a long time to get his revenge and how Lily wanted to protect him, unlike what happened the first time he tried to protect her. Now, he's really earned his place in the Medlov Council and has his own family, something he thought he would never have with the women he's loved for a long time. .

Vasily's Revenge was worth the wait!! What a ride and what a great read!!!!! All the how's and why's were definitely answered. Lilly and Vasily's have great chemistry. And of course you just can't get enough of the Medlov's. I love the banter between the men. They are funny sometimes. It was surely a page turner and Latrivia Nelson did not disappoint. Can't wait to see what she has in store for Briggy and Gabriel.

Another hit

I am really enjoying this series, though this is the first book of "The Medlov Men."
Vasili and Lilly are such a sweet couple and deserve happiness.

Just The Bomb!!

WOW!!You just have to love a Medlov man q,or one who is connected to this family.I love that we are getting a look at the men who surrounds and protects this family.I also love that we get a sexy look at Vasily. This was such a wonderful story and pulse pounding from the start and doesn't let up.Also we get to interact with the rest of the family and its always good not to mention sometimes funny. If you are searching for a new series this what you want to invest your reading time in,and if you are looking to get your long overdue fix of the Medlov family well here it is.

Great read - wish it was longer.

I love Vasily's story line, and finally getting to find out what happened after part 1. Vasily is definitely a leading man in the Medlov men series, even though he is not a Medlov by blood. His story line should continue to be developed, and I hope there are plans do so through additional book(s). I would love to follow-up on his story line, in his new role as captain, father, lover and hopefully husband.

Whenever I read a Medlov book, my life goals automatically reset to travelling to Memphis, finding a Medlov man(preferably Dmitry dumping Royal for me..ugh.. I wish) or 'thief in law' and marrying him. Vasily's story was good. I was interested throughout and although I would have preferred a much more stern Dmitry and Anatoly when their wives made stupid decisions, I am satisfied. This was not as great as Dmitry's closet or the second book but it was enjoyable.

Love the Medlov men...

I picked up the first book in the series quite by accident. Since then I've enjoyed every one. Each story is better than the last. I can't wait to read about Gabriel and Briggy. Ms. Nelson has become one of my favorite authors and I have bought and read every book she's written. Towards the end there were a few typos, yet the story did not seem rushed. I am wondering will we hear what's up with Ivy and her husband???
