My local indie bookstore had an author event scheduled with S.K. Duffey this weekend and unfortunately, she completely ghosted us. No explanation, no rescheduling, no communication. Just silence.
I understand that life happens, but ghosting an entire bookstore and its readers without a word feels dismissive and unprofessional (especially to a bookstore and community that showed up ready to support her).
The worst part is I enjoyed this book. I devoured it in two sittings and I couldn’t wait to hear her speak about her creative process and motivations.
I don’t usually cry during books, but this one got me. There’s something so intimate about Maeve and Jake’s story. Their chemistry is undeniable, but what really stayed with me was how raw and authentic their struggles felt. This is not a story about perfect people it’s about real ones trying to heal.
The small-town setting, the tension of old wounds, and the quiet strength of Jake as he tried to protect his heart all of it felt so genuine. S.K. Duffey wrote a love story that’s not just about romance but about forgiveness, homecoming, and learning to love yourself, too. I love this
S.K. Duffey has such a graceful way of writing emotion. You feel everything Maeve’s guilt, Jake’s guardedness, the weight of the things they never said. This isn’t flashy romance. It’s slow, thoughtful, and deeply moving. I’m so glad I found this book.
