This was book 2 in this series. I really enjoyed this book! In book 1, J.T. meets Brick during a murder investigation where Brick is the lead detective and J.T. who is a medium who can communicate with spirits and a professor was his lead suspect. They fall for each other but their relationship is kept secret due to the fact that Brick is not "out" yet.
In this installment, Brick starts feeling the pressure. Not wanting his colleagues to discover his relationship with Julian, he tells him maybe they should take a break. J.T. takes this like any of us would. Heartbreakingly bad. (Seriously...my heart broke for him)
Penny his fun loving bestie, convinces J.T. to go to Atlanta to a book signing with her. Little do they know, a hurricane is on the way!
Julian gets auctioned off, meets another admirer, and finds himself in the middle of a murder mystery. Brick chances the weather to save Julian but will it be enough to salvage whats left of them?
This book has it all! Murder, mayhem, betrayal, heartbreak, new beginnings, seances, and a love solidified! Also we get to meet Brick's sexy brother Scott! Kudos to Shannon West and Selena Cooper!

I don't know what the hell is wrong with this book. I don't..feel a thing. Maybe it's just me. IDK.

Everyone wants to get a say. Brick, JT (well of course they're MC), Penny--JT's best friend (?), Scott--Brick's brother (??)..It's confusing as hell. Too damn much. Even the sex scene, it's not that hot. I ended up skimming them (wtf, right?).

Hope you guys much luckier than me. *fingers crossed*

Brick is an asshole. It is definite illegal, and in my opinion immoral, for him to abuse his power that way, to look at where J.T. is spending money, etc. You need a court order for those things.

His receptionist Penny rocks. I like this section after Brick comes out to his brother Scott. (Scott is the first one speaking.)
“Not possible. You’re a cop! You were in the Marines, for God’s sake.”
“The two are not mutually exclusive, I assure you.”
Penny doubled up her fist and hit Scott in the arm.
“Ow! What the hell was that for?” he said, whirling around to face her.
“For not accepting your brother, moron. And for insulting my friend and implying that manly men like Marines and cops can’t be gay. Your brother is damn lucky to have a guy like J.T. as a boyfriend. And people are born gay, idiot--they don’t choose, though if they did, that would be all right too! Now either apologize to both of them or get out.” She pointed an imperious finger toward the door.
It was so awesome that she said it wasn't a choice but even if it were, it would still be okay!

Migraine medicine for a concussion seems odd. It constricts the blood vessels and raise blood pressure. Unlike other headaches that do that very thing, migraines dilate the blood vessels. In the book, they are using them like a tranquilizer. Yes I can get a little loopy but I have a really low tolerance threshold. It doesn't alter you mood unless taking away excruciating pain helps your mood.

I am so not interested in the secondary het romance. Oh god, and not in the het sex, either.

This is so much better than the first one. Melodrama, danger, OMG he's dead moments, injuries, scary evil spirits... it's awesome.

There are too many POVs in this. I'm so not interested in scenes that don't have at least one of the MCs in it. Maybe sometimes the villain but not this other couple. I also despise the word . It sounds so trashy to me. I think even vulva is better.

Good thing he clarified that it wasn't people who screamed, it was the women. Someone was also told not to swear around the woman from the het couple. How condescending.

Wow that was really mean. While they were sitting the hurricane out, Brick saw Julian and that was all. (There were extenuating circumstances.) So Brick called him a and then he repeated it after someone told him he was being mean.

That was a good climactic scene too.

4.5 stars despite the sexism and Brick's overall assholeness

This story is a mess from the get go. Neither the characters nor the authors knew what they wanted, with the exception of Scott, Brick's brother, and Penny, J.T.'s best friend, whose coupling was not so much a surprise as it was inevitable (i.e. too obvious and easy).

After Brick makes the monumental mistake of asking J.T. for a little break in their love affair and the argument that follows, J.T. goes to Savannah with Penny to go to a romance writers' convention in the hopes of getting some R&R. All is not well with the convention though, especially when one woman ends up dead after a fall down a stairwell and a hurricane moves in from the coast, adding chaos to to a stormy situation. In the meantime, Brick comes after his erstwhile lover, calling his brother Scott in to help him keep an eye on things.

I think one of the problems with this story is that though I understand J.T.'s frustration with Brick's obvious reluctance and discomfort in being open and out about their relationship, J.T. isn't all that sympathetic to Brick's situation with the police force and his work partner. When J.T. storms off to Savannah in a fit of pique, Brick freezes J.T.'s credit cards in retaliation. When he shows up at the hotel in the middle of the storm, J.T.'s feelings are completely mixed up, between anger and desire, and though he really wants Brick to stay away, he can't keep his hands off the man. It makes for a confusing situation and one which comes from bad writing. What's worse, J.T. never really acknowledges that he's in the wrong with Brick.

In short, J.T.'s acting like a spoiled brat and that is no fun to read.

J.T. is shocked when his boyfriend of three short months tells him he wants a break. Angry and heart broken, J.T. refuses any contact with Brick. He decides to accompany his friend Penny to a romance novel convention in Savannah. Suddenly, J.T. and Penny have more than their share of new problems. Someone is murdering writers and a hurricane is bearing down on Savannah.

Brick regrets his request but cannot tell J.T. that since he will not talk to him. Brick heads out to Savannah and contacts his brother Scott to meet him at the hotel. Now J.T. is being targeted and between a murderer and a hurricane, they will all be lucky to make it out alive.

Brick is going to have to work hard to get J.T. back. The interaction between them makes for some amazing scenes. J.T. does not fall back into line with Brick readily and J.T. makes him work. The plot is well done with a good balance between humor and suspense. The romance conference is a hoot even with the hurricane. It’s a great back drop for the action. Fun and engaging, suspenseful with a few twists and turns, this one will grab you and not let go. I hope there are many books written about these two and their friends.

I actually liked the first book more than this one. J.T. was too flaky in this book, not like an intelligent, accomplished professor and confident medium should/would act. He was more self-assured in the first book. It was still entertaining though, so I look forward to the next one in this series:)
