Tara Sivec may be one of the only authors out there that can take a subject like cancer and make you not even feel bad about laughing so hard your about to pee your pants while reading. She’s just that kind of author. I have been obsessed with her Chocolate Lover’s series since I first read Seductions & Snacks. They are some of the funniest books I have EVER read. The characters in this series have become like friends or family to us readers. So to know one of my girls, Liz or Claire has breast cancer... it’s not easy to read about.

If you’ve ever had someone you love get cancer, or you’ve lost a loved one from cancer, you have maybe screamed this once or twice... I know the main characters in this story aren’t shy to say it.

 photo c864c9e9-abd9-4311-97fa-4e8bbdcfd98d_zps5d423736.jpg

Liz and Claire have been best friends since high school. But they are more than just friends. They are each others person, soul mates, as close as close could be. Dealing with one of them being sick isn’t easy. Everyone has a different way to deal with illness. It’s incredibly hard and stressful and down right scary. The two of them and the rest of the crew try to maneuver this the best way they can. With lots of laughs, inappropriateness, and lots of love.

This is not only a story about cancer, it’s a story about love, friendship, and supporting those you love. It’s a story that gave me so many feelings.
Reading this novella was a roller coaster of emotions for me. I blubbered like a baby half the time, but this is a Tara Sivec book, so you know I laughed hysterically through the tears. A really great read. And know that this and every October, all proceeds will go to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Living Beyond Breast Cancer.

4 Encouraging Stars.

description

A few months before Gavin and Charlotte’s wedding, Claire delivers some awful news: she has breast cancer. And when everyone is terrified for her, she is pretty calm about it and decided to fight as the strong woman she always was. Ironically Liz is the person who reacts the worst. And the fear for her best-friend prevents her from really being there for her. And when fear, an awful disease and the lack of the right words fail, Claire and Liz’s friendship will be put to an ultimate test.

Rating: 4 Stars.
Storyline: This was an amazing story about two best friends and how they stick together through everything, even when things got really hard. For the lovers of this series and this group of people, you can’t miss it. Especially because it has a lot of awesome flashbacks from the past. I really loved how Tara could pull off a sensible subject with her characteristic sense of humor and got a few laughs out of me.
Writing Style: First person. Liz’s POV. Sweet and hilarious.
Character Development: I love these people. This is probably the craziest and hilarious group of friends ever written. I love them all. I loved how Liz and Claire got around the situation and I love how Carter was always there.
Steam: Well. Not really. Except for some really weird remarks from Jenny and Drew. (Yes, who else?)

*****5 Tantalizing Tittys Stars*****

Buying Tattoos and Tatas should be on everyone's TBR list for the month of October, because Tara Sivec is donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this book on this month, to two very important Breast Cancer foundations, and not only will you get to contribute to this great cause but you'll also get to read one hilarious and fabulous read. I really love this series and this book was every bit as awesome as all the previous ones.

if you have read any of the books on this series, you already know that they are really funny (pee- in- your- pants- from- laughing- so- hard-funny) and that they are about friendship. These characters are a close knit group of friends, who are constantly getting in trouble for being crazy, but no matter what, they all show up up for each other. This short story is mainly about Claire and Liz, they have been best friends since collage; more than friends, they are sisters, soul mates. Now in their forties they have been through everything together, so when the unfairness and ugliness that is breast cancer shows up and shakes their lives to the very core, their friendship will be tested but not before almost getting kicked out of a bar and a hospital. Breast cancer is a sad reality that affects women everyday, it could happen to any of us or any of the women in our lives and while this is a very serious matter laughter always helps the soul and I'm very happy that Tara Sivec had decided to write a book about it , and she did it beautifully. I could tell she did her homework right, and researched this topic and while the tone was true to her style funny, she was sensitive with her words and humanized the characters in a way anybody going through hard times could relate and feel better if only for a few hours, I have no doubts that anyone who reads it will enjoy it and have a good ole' laugh.

 photo IMG_1757_zpsf5bf7e88.jpg

The story mostly is about how each person in the group reacts and then copes with the news of the illness and how it affects the dynamics of the group. I don't want to give away anymore because I want absolutely everyone to read it and fully enjoy this amazing book that has a lot of heart and a lot of laughs.

Tattoos and Tatas Tara Sivec
Tattoos & Tatas by Tara Sivec (Chocoholics 2.5)
Emotional and Funny. Can stand alone.
10 STARS!!!
Those of you who know me, know that The Chocolate Lovers and Chocoholics Series by Tara Sivec is my favorite series. The characters are not only the funniest I have ever read, but they are like my favorite friends. That is what I love so much about the series, it's funny, with heart, is sexy, and has the people I want to hang out with so badly. That is why I started Wicked Book Weekend, so I could stalk hang out with Claire Tara in real life.

While there were were emotional sweet moments in the Chocolate Lovers and Chocoholics Series, overall, the funny and the romance were the stars. With Tattoos & Tatas , Claire and Liz's friendship is the star. It's like a love letter to her BFF.
"Oh, shut up, I'm not a lesbian. I'm talking about my best friend. My PERSON."

I have never cried my way through a whole book, yet laughed my ass off the whole time too. Only Tara Sivec can do that.

I had a teeny bit of trouble adjusting at the beginning, because Tattoos & Tatas was the first book told from Liz's point of view (which I ended up loving). I was so used to Claire, I had a little trouble remembering who's head we were in. Keep in mind, This is a Chocoholics book. The Chocolate Lovers were when they were in their 20s, Chocoloholics-40s. Claire and Liz had been as close as best friends could be since they met in high school. Tattoos & Tatas is told both in the present, and through flashbacks over the years, and we get to find out all of the stuff we missed.

I loved the flashbacks to 10th grade, with some awesome late 80s references (by the way Tara, I STILL like Love's Baby Soft), and how Claire and Liz bond over their mutual hatred for everyone and love for Heathers (the movie). They were immediately inseparable and have been for over 30 years.
"So, I have cancer. Who wants more wine?" Claire states with a big smile.

Of course, Jenny whips out her Blistex to cure those pesky mouth (CanKer) sores. But Liz, well she doesn't know what to do. Over the years, she has been the strong caretaker, the fixer.
"My best friend has CANCER.
Why can't I feel anything? Why can't I do anything?"

While Claire delivers the news lightly, it is still Jenny who adds the comic relief to a tragic moment.
"You know Drew and I play mammogram all the time...Drew dresses like a doctor and I put on a robe. Then, he takes two dinner plates from the kitchen and he smushes--"

Liz is dumbfounded. She refuses to believe.
"I mean how is it even possible that one of us is old enough to get breast cancer? I'm not stupid, I've seen the statistics and I know it can hit anyone at any time, but those are people I don't know."

Tattoos & Tatas quote

Back to flashbacks of college, and watching their friendship develop, and seeing as they drunkenly imagine owning a store together. Meet their husbands, have a baby...through it all, Liz has been there for Claire.
"Right at that moment, I knew that I would do anything for my best friend. I would hold her hand when she was in pain, scream at my catatonic fiancé when he saw her vagina and sit by her side when she became a mom. There was nothing I wouldn’t do for her and I knew that’s how it would always be."

While Liz may not be handling Claire's Cancer well, Drew and Jim provide lots of comedy, especially on the hospital forms they fill out. But Liz just keeps going over thirty years of best friendship in her head. Liz is the bossy, in charge person in the group, and she can't deal with feeling helpless. While Claire and the guys are trying to find humor in it, Liz just can't.
"I have no idea how to find humor in any of this bullshit. We have so much more living to do, she and I. We have a business to run together, the wedding of our children to plan, and future grandchildren to corrupt."

Though I teared up a lot at the beginning, there was a point that I cried the big horrible gasping tears.
Yet 2 pages later, with tears and snot still rolling down my face, I am cracking up. Though most of the story is brand new, we do get to relive a few great past scenes from Liz's perspective.
"Jesus Christ, my best friend was going to have a baby..."
"Could you imagine having a kid who repeated everything we say? Kid would be a goddamn genius, I'm telling you."

But it's how she feels now that really got me. Liz was so REAL. Nobody knows what to say to someone when they or a loved one has cancer. Even your best friend. While Claire seemed to be handling it amazingly well, she needed her best friend, and Liz was so lost.
"Is there a book called "How to Talk to Your Best Friend When She Has Brest Cancer For Dummies"? I might need that. I've always been there for her when she needed me. I've always known the right things to say, why should now be any different?"

Though this is a Chocoholics book in sequence, it is way more of a Chocolate Lovers book. Even more, it's a Liz and Claire book, but we still get the rest of the original six for humor. We know the grown kids are around, but they really took a backseat in this book, and I think it worked by not overwhelming the story. Tattoos & Tatas is honestly a work of genius, and I think it's my favorite to date of all of Tara's books.

Tattoos and Tatas tara Sivec

Likes:

•That 100% of the proceeds every October will be donated to Breast Cancer Awareness.
•Tattoos and Tatas felt way longer than it is, in a good way. It was a very full story, that I think can easily standalone, I was shocked to see the number of pages was less than 150.
•The huge amount of emotions was ridiculous.
•I have never been sobbing and laughing like that before. AT THE SAME TIME.
•Seeing when Liz and Jim really meet and get together at the same frat party.
•Reading about a 30 year friendship.
•The Arby's beefy vagina jokes were abundantly available.
•More of Jenny's idiocy.
•How REAL Liz was. She didn't know how to handle it, and I loved reading her thoughts. I totally got her.
•The little foreshadowing she put in all of the flashbacks, like predicting My Little Pony will make a comeback, and suggesting  you could get knocked up just by ringing the doorbell at a frat party.
•Almost the entire book is yellow from highlighted quotes.
•Tons of scenes that were never mentioned in previous books, even though they happen around the same time. So it's more in the Seduction and Snacks timeline. (I so want to hang out with the 6 of them! Luckily I might have 4 at Wicked Book Weekend.)
•Rice Krispie Treats (nomnomnom)
•I've been postponing making a mammogram appointment, but I made one while reading this.

Not really a dislike:

•Not really a dislike, but a mention that having Liz as the narrator took a bit of adjusting to, especially because I thought she was the one who gets sick before I went in. (Not a spoiler, it's in the first 5 pages.), but I ended up loving it.

Rating:
10 Stars, YES, 10 (A rating I have given twice before, for Seduction and Snacks and The Will), 1 Heat (it's not about that).

Tattoos & Tatas is pure genius. Tara wrote a story that I think people new to her will enjoy because it covers the past 30 years (though it may have some spoilers of earlier books), and people who know and love the Chocolate series will love it even more. She does a beautiful job of making you bawl your eyes out and then laugh within a page or two, so you never wallow in your sadness. It was an amazing tribute to best friends, and still worked so well in the overall story. It filled in some of the little blanks from the years, like how Liz and Jim met at the party, and went even earlier, to how Claire and Liz met. I never had an issue with the flashbacks, and never got confused as to what I was reading. I honestly can't imagine any way Tattoos & Tatas could have been better. It was a brilliant book that made me laugh and cry throughout it all, AT THE SAME TIME!

A buddy book

This book isn't a romance, but a love story of two best friends. Claire is diagnosed with breast cancer and Liz is struggling with the possibility of losing her best friend. A bunch of funny flashbacks in this book along with finding of how Jim and Liz actually meet. Very cute!

5 "...you're my person..." Stars

I love Tara Sivec and I love this group of characters. Tattoos and Tatas is a novella complimenting this great series told from the POV of Liz. It was a very real account of a woman out of sorts because the life of her best friend is threatened by a terrible disease. It shows the strength in friendship, the strength in women and the power of soul deep connection rooted in humor. If you need a good laugh or a reminder to laugh even in the most awful of experiences, this author delivers. There's humor, humility, and the best kind of friendship shared between a special group of people.

I have to admit, I was a little thrown this was from Liz's POV. We have never been inside Liz's head before, and I struggled to quickly build the connection to her needed, in such a short book, that was handling a tough subject.

I do wish the book had been longer, and really got in depth, and maybe had some scenes from Claire and Carter (they remain my favourites over the entire series) - but it fit with the rest of the series how it was.

But this book was ALL about Liz and her reactions - I found myself wanting to know what Gavin thought (I do not think he even appears in this book, he is mentioned) and as I said, be in Carter's head maybe? And again, as I have said with the other books in this series - Where the heck is Claire and Carter's daughter?? She is just - gone.

But what there was, the emotion and reactions felt honest, raw and real. With the typical TS humour added.

Holy shit snacks. I knew going in that this would be short and funny, but also serious given the subject matter. I really just intended to skim it for the jokes. This shit reeled me in and made me cry! Me! I don't cry reading books…almost never, unless I'm particularly hormonal at the time. But Christ, this one got me. I love these characters, and while I can't relate over the exact situation, never having had anyone close to me be diagnosed with breast cancer, I did feel their struggle with dealing with the news and the hopelessness of not being able to do something to fix it.

I think the author did a great job of bringing humor into a very serious, very relatable experience. She has this note in the beginning of the book telling readers how she's not making light of breast cancer and that she understands the devastation this disease can have. But I can't see how anyone would take this book that way. This is clearly a story of a family dealing with a scary reality and dealing with it the best way they know how…with humor. Not only is that relatable as fuck, but it's a reminder that even when shit is scary and serious it's okay to laugh about it. I could name any number of terrible, scary, serious situations that have happened over my lifetime and I guarantee my brother and I made no less than a dozen tasteless, offensive, dark jokes about it. It's how we deal with it. We could probably put on a whole set about terrible funeral ideas…it's become a running joke, all the shit he's going to make me do when he dies. There a scavenger hunt involved…

But the point is, life is hard and sometimes it deals you a really shitty hand. And if you can keep your sense of humor, make offensive jokes, and laugh during those shitty times…well they seem more manageable. And everyone deserves that.

Claire turns away from her and gives me The Look. The one that we silently give each other whenever our friend Jenny speaks. The one that quietly shouts "HOW THE FUCK DOES SHE FUNCTION ON A DAILY BASIS???"
"I'm pretty sure if Blistex was the cure for cancer, someone would have mentioned it by now, but thanks for the offer," Claire says with a chuckle as she sips her newly filled glass of wine.
"Oh, you said cancer! Ha! I thought you said canker. You know, like herpes, but on your lip… Oh. OH. OH MY GOD!" Jenny screams in horror when it finally sinks in.

Carter busies himself dumping all of the food on a table in the corner or the room, lining it up by size then rearranging it by color. He huffs and then tries organizing the items alphabetically. Carter has been maniacally arranging things since Claire got the call from her oncologist last week. He started at Seduction and Snacks, putting all of the butt plugs with the ball gags because they both start with B. After that, he took every item out of their pantry at home and lined them up by expiration date. When he tried to rearrange Claire's baking cupboards, that's when she put her foot down and told him if he put the cinnamon near the coriander she would castrate him.
I feel for the guy, I really do. He needs to keep himself busy so he doesn't dwell on what's happening with Claire. I tried doing something like that after she told us. I decided it was a good idea to take up running. Jim found me an hour later, two blocks away from our house screaming about how no one in their right mind should run unless someone with a gun was chasing them. Even then, I might just let the guy shoot me. Running is dumb.

Claire looks up at me in surprise when I drop my bag next to her chair and doesn't say anything as I dig through it for the first item I need. I pull out the piece of paper I printed from the computer this morning, grab a roll of scotch tape and walk over to her IV.
"What are you doing?" Claire finally speaks.
I ignore her for the time being as I tape my sign to the clear bag of fluid hanging from the steel pole next to her chair. When it's finished, I take a step back and study my work.
Carter gets up from his chair and walks over to stand next to me, reading the sign out loud. "This is probably vodka."
He nods his head and pats me on the back. "Fitting. Very fitting."
I walk back to my bag and pull out another sign, taping it to the footrest on her recliner so it hangs down by Claire's feet. Once again, Carter walks over to me and reads the sign. "Beware: I have an aggressive vagina."
Carter laughs and Claire shoots him a dirty look.
"What?" he asks her. "Your vagina is kind of aggressive."

I am a 'Chocolate Lovers Series' Fan. I'm not too proud to say I waited too long to read the 'Chocoholis Series'. Maybe I was distracted or I forgot. Who knows, but what's matter is that Here I am!

 photo 864318_zpsab2d6c9c.gif

Why did I buy it now? Three things caught my attention : the Blurb, knowing the author wanted the readers to experience how a terrible news can change us. How with a positive attitude we can win that battle. And third, during the month of October, every year, 100% of the proceeds from the sale are split between a few Breast Cancer Awareness Charities. Way to go Tara!

 photo 748348_zpse4caf3e2.gif

This story is from Liz's POV. It's short and I enjoyed it, but didn't love it. Why? I truly believe this should have been a much bigger story. A lot of important scenes and moments were missing. I'm not going to tell you which ones because of the spoilers you know and because it's just my opinion.

Overall, it's a touching story and if you love the gang this is A MUST READ!

Tara Sivec has made me laugh so hard I peed my pants, NO LIE.

She has made me gasp in shock and shake my head

She has made me cry big fat tears and sigh because of how wonderful her writing is.

I am TARA SIVEC's #1 fan. Try and challenge that and I WILL CUT YOU.

I didn't expect to have so many feels while reading this book. I thought I would laugh until I cried. I didn't expect to cry and then laugh.

This is a must read, not just because Tara Sivec wrote it, but because it is a beautiful story about love, friendship and cancer.

She did a bloody brilliant job on this book and I am in awe of her.

Loved it!

Tackled a serious subject matter with humor in only a way that Tara Sivec can! I have several friends I'm happy to say are breast cancer survivors, but terribly sad to say that this same disease took my aunt from us too soon. This was such a fun way to share a message.... besides damnit... I've missed the hell out of Claire, Carter, Liz, Jim, and the, you don't know what the hell they are going to do or say next, Drew & Jenny!

Claire & Liz have been BFFs forever. Nothing can tear them apart. Can their friendship overcome something neither one of them has any control over?
This story takes you down memory lane to when Claire & Liz meet and back through some really great memories, trying times and truly hilarious moments in present day.

This is a great book for a great cause.

First off, let me just say that I'm a huge Tara Sivec fan. I think that Tara has this amazing and quite unique ability to make you laugh no matter the situation, and I think that Tattoos and Tatas was a perfect example of her remarkable talent. T&T was an emotionally heavy look back at the close friendship that Liz and Claire's have shared through the years, and the heartbreaking situation that they now face when one of them gets sick. I loved the spirit and message that Tara brought across in this book. Not only did she make me laugh, but she made me cry and overall warmed my heart with this story. To put it quite simply...I loved it!

Fuck Cancer. Save second base. Fight like a girl. Do it all and do it with a few laughs because you are amazing, you are strong and you are a fighter, just like my best friend.

This was a truly inspirational and heartwarming story! A band of friends, sticking together like a child to a popsicle, who are there for each other in good times and bad times.

How can I not give this quick read 5 stars. Tara is a go to author regardless of the subject. Cancer is usually a no go for me, I've put down 2 books and couldn't finish simply because they touched on the subject, but Tara's perfect way with words and humor got me thru. Bravo on yet another reason I will read anything you write even if it was a rewritting the phone book.

It's definitely hard to take such a heavy subject & write about it without it turning depressing. Somehow, Tara manages to do that & with the signature humor only she can provide. I just love this series & the group of characters we've followed through so much. I'm so glad she wrote this & the proceeds are all being donated. That alone keeps a smile on my face long after the story ended.

Tattoos and Tatas (Chocoholics #2.5) by Tara Sivec
4 stars!!

“I’m going to have to fire you from your position as president of the Itty Bitty Titty Club. This is a sad, sad day in Titty Club history.”

I have never felt guilty laughing while reading a book…until now. Tara touches on some really sensitive and heart breaking subjects in this book but in usual Tara Sivec style she manages to combine the serious with the humorous. This book is a looking in from the outside book, touching upon how cancer not only affects the sufferer but also close family and friends.

It is that feeling of life being out of control and even if you are a “fixer” this is something far beyond your control and no matter how hard you try it cannot be fixed. The end result is out of your hands, you have to leave it to the doctors and the patient and that can be hard to deal with for some people, especially Claire’s best friend, Liz.

“She doesn’t need you to fix her, Liz. She just needs you to be there for her.”

Liz and Claire are soul mates, these two were meant to be together, and they truly are the best of friends. So when Claire is diagnosed with breast cancer, Liz struggles. Liz feels helpless, devastated and extremely sorry for herself. She cannot believe that this is happening to her best friend and the fact that she is powerless to have any effect on what happens in the future. Liz has a lot of thoughts and feelings to overcome, but sheltering yourself away from your best friend when all she needs is you, is not the way forward. After some soul searching Liz finally finds herself and recovers to be the best, best friend that Claire could need. This also leads to some seriously hilarious shenanigans as we have come to truly love from this crazy crazy group of friends.

We have shaved legs, balls and pussy’s (get your head out the gutter) this is the feline variety, melons and tattoo’s. This book has the perfect balance of the serious, emotional side and the light hearted f**k cancer side. It goes to show that friends and laughter can help in even the direst of circumstances and that as long as you have friends, life itself, never seems that bad.

A great quick read that will have you laughing even though you feel you shouldn’t, with a great message to those suffering with cancer and those supporting those sufferers. Every October a portion of the sales of this book goes to two fantastic cancer charities, so if ever that was the nudge to buy it, then do, because you won’t be disappointed.

“F**k cancer. Save second base. Fight like a girl. Do it all and do it with a few laughs because you are amazing, you are strong and you are a fighter, just like my best friend.”

I've absolutely LOVED Tara's Chocolate Lovers series since day one and every book that it's spawned since. Tattoos & Tatas is no different. Tara has managed to take a serious topic, breast cancer, and show us that it can be dealt with, and made slightly more bearable with humor. When one of our favorite leading ladies faces the fight of her life, we see the others handle things in various ways from OCD pantry rearranging to nonsensical tattoos (no guessing who did that one lol). In true Tara fashion she had me crying and laughing all at the same time here. These characters say everything you want to say during difficult times instead of saying what's "proper" to say. I think that's what I love most about them. It's a short story talking about a delicate subject but a story that's a must read nonetheless. It's our favorite fun loving Chocoholics gang and they're always a must read in my book!

I laughed so hard at some points in this book, you'd think I was crazy. I cried like a baby at some of the words too.

This story touched me on so many levels. I lost my sister at the young age of 38, leaving behind her 4 year old son, husband, and lots of family that LOVED her dearly.

If you feel like something is wrong, don't let the Dr tell you "you're fine" and not do anything about it. That's exactly what happened with my sister Julie. So, by the time they found the cancer, about a year later, she was stage 4 breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy, couldn't hold or hug her son because I of radiation. She had to give up her daycare she had worked so hard for.

Cancer changes EVERYTHING!! Don't ignore the Signs, don't let your doctor ignore the Signs!! You're never too young to get a mammogram.

Completely forgot to rate this! I was cleaning out my kindle library and I reread this again. I cried like crazy when I read Carter's reaction.

But I also laughed so hard! Jenny and Drew are crazy honestly. They are nuts but the kind that has you holding your stomach and laughing like crazy.

I think I need to reread the series again. I forgot how insanely hilarious the chocoholics gang are.

Just when I think I couldn't adore Sivec anymore she goes and makes a funny story dealing with a realistic problem. Not only that but the proceeds all go to cancer research. Bi_ch. I've now fallen even harder. Well done. Totally heartwarming.

I have always loved Liz and Claire, they are funny and they love each other so much. This story is just so different and it makes me cry. I just cry my heart out for them. But all is still well in the end.

Tara Sivec's books never fails to crack me up and love the journey of these characters
