It was really interesting reading from Chase's POV of life before he was turned. Knowing what happened and reading first hand are very different. Chase's story definitely tugged at my heart strings I'm just glad that Baxter wasn't on the plane. I'm just glad that Chase had made up with his sister and got to kiss Tami
This was a short novella about how Chase became a vampire. It was a nice addition to the story to have more background and depth to Chase’s character and introduced us to his family and life before the shift. Unbreakable is a prequel to the After Dark series, but I would recommend reading it after Chase has been introduced in Reborn so that you can experience Chase and his mysterious demeanor alongside Della, but then read about his past before the sequels so that you can grow to understand him more in the rest of the Shadow Falls After Dark series.
If you’ve read Reborn, you’d know Chase Tallman was a new student at Shadow Falls. He’s a vampire – a sexy, mysterious one – who seemed charming, dangerous and very capable of bringing out the cranky side of Della.
In Unbreakable, we got to see Chase before he became a vampire. He was an ordinary teen who loved his family and had a crush on his sister’s best friend. He was fiercely protective and I liked that he didn’t back out of awkward situations and was always ready to take a stand even when things were tough and uncomfortable.
The novella is short. It’s about 55 pages long but it helps me see Chase at a new angle. To be honest, I didn’t know if I wanted to get to know Chase when I read Reborn. He seemed to be a guy with an okay personality but he didn’t sound appealing to me. But now that I get to know him a little better, I feel more eager to pick up book two and find out if he’s really on the good side.
Can’t wait to get reconnected with Burnett, Della and their friends in October 2014…
UNBREAKABLE is an enchanting, sweet and heartbreaking short novella told from Chase Tallman’s point of view that takes readers through the day when he became a vampire and gives them a peek ahead at the first week of his new life. While it can be read prior to the first book in the Shadow Falls: After Dark series or after the second book, it’s best read after having gotten to know him in REBORN but before the events in ETERNAL.
In this brief tale, readers will get to meet a young, fourteen-year-old Chase, his family and his first love. They’ll get to learn what happened in the hours prior to the plane crash that changed his life forever. And they’ll discover just what impossible choice he had to make.
The story alternates between the day of the accident and the day after, with the look ahead in the novella’s final chapter. It’s a quick but captivating read that allows readers to get to know the very secretive Chase just a little bit better and perhaps understand why he’s so drawn to Della.
While this story is not required to understand and enjoy the novels, UNBREAKABLE is an engaging and heart-rending tale about one of the series’ most swoon-worthy characters that is definitely worth reading.
Original GR comments: What a heartbreaking story. Loved getting a peek at Chase's life right before. But so sad. Mini review TK 10/31.
That was my first thought when I finished this book. My heart is crying for Chase. This book is about Chase. If you've read the Shadow Falls series, you would know that Chase is one of the guys that's, well, chasing after Della (yes, pun intended MUAHAHA). This book is about his past, his first love and how he came to be a vampire. When I read the other books, I thought Chase was just another cool, mysterious vampire, but after reading this, guys, my heart goes out to him.
This book was a really short story, and I kinda finished it quite fast HAHA. And there isn't much to talk about except Chase is HOT. And well, you guys should read this. If you wanna continue with Della's story, it would be wise to read this book. Hehe.
Seen at Bookish Antics! I’m completely and utterly obsessed with the Shadow Falls series, so I was excited when I heard about Unbreakable, a novella about the mysterious Chase. This ebook gives readers a glimpse into the life of this character and helps show Chase in such a different light. This is an extremely necessary read for fans of C.C. Hunter and one of my only complaints is that it’s too short! I was addicted to this novella and I wanted to read even more about Chase — hopefully he will play an even bigger role in Eternal.
This was easily the most unique and heavily foreshadowed novella in the ‘Almost Midnight’ collection. It’s told in a sort of back-and-forth format between single page BREAKING NEWS segments detailing a plane crash and attempted rescue, and the events of a day prior--as given from the 3rd-person-limited perspective of 14-year-old Chase Tallman.
Chase’s family is taking a vacation weekend in the Rocky mountains, where his father—a doctor—has the family taking part in some sort of mysterious research project. Chase’s curiosity over his father’s work is obscured by the fact that his older sister has been allowed to bring her best friend Tami along on the trip. With hormones running strong, all he’s really interested in is getting a chance to kiss Tami. Meanwhile, his boy-crazy sister seems determined to get herself into trouble that Chase will no doubt feel obligated to defend her from.
This felt like the truest YA piece in the entire paranormal anthology. The prose is a little rough at times in terms of assembly, but the emotional conveyance generally feels accurate to what one would expect from the 14 and 15-year-olds primarily featured—if not a touch older. Chase is perched on the cusp between awkward and brave; his single-minded quest forgivable due to his otherwise beneficent and believable temperament.
I actually wish this had been the first story in the ‘Almost Midnight’ collection. The supernatural elements are more eerily hinted at throughout most of the novella, only making a clear showing toward the very end. For anyone reading the anthology it belongs to without previous knowledge of the Shadow Falls world, this may be the smoothest way to ease into it. It also has the benefit of presenting a more endearing main character.
Unbreakable is very short at only 55 pages, it was more of a tease of what we can expect with the release of the next book in the series, Eternal.
Unbreakable is smexy Vampire Chase Tallman’s story. We get a glimpse into his life before he was infected with the virus and eventually ended up at Shadow Falls.
The plot was mysterious as we learn about Chase, prior to this he was a bit of a mystery and I wanted to learn more. We get to find out about genetic testing, the plane crash which involved his parents and of the girl he had a huge crush on; it also left me with many unanswered questions which I'm sure will be resolved in the next book.
I am not usually a novella fan at all but the Shadow Falls are one of my favourite series so it was a must read.
Overall, wonderful writing, an interesting plot and great insight into Chase as a character.
Team Chase here. can't help it I want Della with Chase...don't get me wrong I like Steve but he's not the one for Della... Loved this book simply because it gave us an insight about Chase and his life before becoming a reborn vampire.. This little novella showed us the sweet innocent Chase. I love C.C. Hunter and her fantastic imagination and I'm so happy she's decided to share the stories in her head with us!... Waiting eagerly for the next Shadow After Dark Falls book!!!
It was good to get to know more about Chase. I kind of wish I had read this before reading the two books in the After Dark series, but I don't think it really mattered. My biggest complaint was that I wish it was longer. I wish it told me a little more. I guess I will just have to wait for the next book in the series to come out to get the answers I want.
A good little short story prequel for Chase for the after dark series.
This is a really good short story that contains elements in which outside of the Shadow Fall's series would not understand at first but still would not take away from the story itself. While it takes place before the shadow Fall's series itself it is meant to be a little prequel story to the after dark series. It lets you see a young 14 year old Chase and the events that led to his becoming a vampire. It is very much a tragedy and gives a big helping of bitter-sweets. I would say the stories meant for those 15 years old old or above.
I bought this e-book about two years ago and promptly forgot about it. I had loved the original series and was eager to continue the story but I must have gotten distracted. Well, here we are and I enjoyed it just as much as the other books. For such a short novella, it held my attention the entire time and I wished it was longer. Chase is a cutie and it broke my heart to read about him losing his family and first real crush. I'm back into the swing of things (I think) and am ready to dive back into this series.
An enjoyable, heartbreaking short story about the plane crash, the death of Chase's family, and Chase's introduction to the supernatural world. The story left me unsatisfied and wishing to read about Chase's time with the council and his introduction to Della. The story is very cute but sad. Feel free to read it but I must warn you: it will leave you wanting more. Happy reading my fellow bookworms!
This book that gave us some background on Chase was great but also so sad. Im glad I read this before starting the new Shadow Falls after dark series and Im excited to see how he meets Della and what happens.
This book is a novella. A story from the main books of Born at Midnight (The Shadow Falls) series. C. C. Hunter just did this series right. I loved the supernatural characters, the friendship bonds and the family made at this camp. This story with Chase was sad but good. I don't know how to review this without spoilers, so I'm going to say that Chase found a first crush than lost her and was saved from a plane crash where how he survived is a miracle but ended on a need to know more situation. These books are so easy to read, you don't have to think too much and the storyline on all these characters are just fun and loving. Recommend to 15yrs and up. Family, Friends and easy fast reads. I recommend reading the Awake at Midnight series and then read the side stories of how the characters grow in each story.
This was a really good read and great to get an insight into how Chase turned. I couldn't put it down. I'm really enjoying C C Hunters novels. I am surprised at how long it has taken me to discover them, being about vampires, but I am really glad I have. Well worth getting into.
Diese Kurzgeschichte für die Hauptbände macht auf jeden Fall neugierig auf das was noch kommt 😊 ich bin sehr gespannt wie Dellas Geschichte erzählt wird in den neuen Reihen des Shadow Falls Camp 😍
