Avery Syracuse is a New York transplant with the Skeenville Fire Department. He’s a little rough around the edges, but loveable and loyal. Down on his luck in the romance department, he could use some help with the bills and is looking for a roommate when Luke Turner arrives.

Luke is one of the best firemen Avery has ever seen, and it doesn’t make sense for Luke to be wasting his time in Skeenville. The two men have an instant connection both men know is worth exploring. As they set about igniting the fire between them, at home, at the station, up against the engine—it really doesn’t seem to matter—a connection far deeper than physical begins to emerge. However, these two men are going to have to trust each other enough to move beyond old hurts and buried secrets if they want to maintain a partnership—both at the station and at home.

Re-read March 2016

Whoops, my bad. Another re-read where I was underwhelmed and wondering what exactly I was smoking to give it such a glowing review initially.

I have GOT to stop doing this!

Dropped a star because of overall douchbaggery behavior by one MC.

Original review:

Well, wasn't this a pleasant surprise! Two firefighters (who actually fight fires!), one gay-for-you, some hurt/comfort, a nice, big lover's quarrel and some sheet melting sex. All in one book! Practically out of no where! Fucking Christmas in October! Just what the doctor ordered.

MC Avery Syracuse is a member of the Skeenville Fire Department, minding his own business. Just getting out of a 6 month relationship with his cheating boyfriend and at the age where he is ready to settle down with a nice guy. Along comes super firefighter and sexy as all get-out MC Luke Turner, who joins the Skeenville Fire Department after a mandatory 3 month leave-of-absence from his old station. Luke is keeping his past a secret, which is fine with Avery. Everyone deserves their privacy. While Avery is gay as the day is long, Luke is keeping his sexual orientation hidden, but that doesn't stop Avery from offering the extra room in his home to Luke to rent, which Luke gladly accepts. The two men become fast friends and their story is light and fun and the friendship is relaxed and easy. After a few months, situations force the two men to reveal secrets to one another, and the sexual tension kicks into high gear. Now we find ourselves at the top of the roller coaster and the rest of the ride is absolutely exhilarating. You're gonna have to read it and experience it for yourself. I'm not giving it away.

I loved this firefighter romance and can highly recommend it to all M/M romance fans, even those who have no interest in the firefighter genre. It was sweet, exciting, romantic and HOT. With a cherry on top.

This was very weird but also not terrible? Luke was the typical MC with inner demons while Avery just wanted for them to be together. I sort of wish this had been longer, it would have made the story better.

I was very excited when I saw a new firefighter romance, but still cautious as the last couple of stories didn't work to well for me. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did I get sexy and yummy firefighters, ones that actually worked and their jobs were incorporated in the story, but also got a gfy story, which I am a sucker for. Will this be for everyone, probably not. Some parts of the story (like Luke's past) I thought should have either been left out or handled better, but I looked passed that. Enjoyable and romantic with some hot firefighters.

I think 3 stars?
I don't know, I like the idea, I liked Avery. I even liked Luke, but he pissed me off. I was glad that Av was strong and didn't fall into the "hot" of Luke's hot and cold routine, but actually communicated and did what was best for himself. As for Luke, he ...well, I felt badly, but he did in fact piss me off.
Also, he called Av's ex "sexy" so I don't see why it was such a stretch about not being straight. He didn't come across straight to me, but I don't know. Also, the passage of time in this was odd. It was like months went by...and then a few weeks, and I was like....wha????
Overall, it was good, just some things that didn't work for me personally.

I really liked these men.

Avery and Luke are firefighters. When Luke transfers to Avery’s unit, they become friends as well as roommates.

Luke never thought he would get feelings for another man, but he does. When he tells Avery about these feelings, the two start a tentative relationship.

But there is the thing of Luke’s past. Luke suffered a horrible loss, but he won’t tell Avery about it.

These men were hot and the GFY was nicely done.

Luke tells Avery about his doubts about his sexuality, his worries. And Avery tells Luke he doesn’t just want to be an experiment. He is worried about Luke being gay all of a sudden.

description

These men make their intentions pretty clear at the start of their relationship. They want more than just sex from each other.

I really wanted to give this book 4 stars, but then the angst hit. It wasn’t too bad, but it annoyed me and pulled me out of my happy place.

description

Other than that part I really liked it. If you have a thing for hot firemen (who doesn’t!), you should give this one a try.

Contrary to what the cover depicts this is a romance between TWO men. I honestly went into (ran jumping up and down) Up In Flames expecting an all man ménage. How can one go wrong with three sexy firemen? S.C. Wynne still delivered a sexy romance between two very sexy firemen.
New to Skeenville, Luke is looking forward to a new start on his life with a new department. It doesn’t take him long at all to find a roommate in fellow fireman Avery. Things are really looking up for Luke and to keep the flow of new going for him he also discovers for the first time in his life that he is attracted to a man. The man just happens to be the one he lives and works with.
Avery and Luke and all of the baggage that is brought into the book to keep them apart and how they work it all out really worked for me on so many levels. Luke and Avery together as a couple worked for me. They both have some past that keeps the present from flowing as smoothly as it needs to. Put all of this together and it makes for a great read. I am so happy that I discovered Wynne’s very sexy male male romances.

Avery was hilarious and a smart a-s-s and used his gruff "giant" persona to reflect that he was a big ol' softy! Just after he finds out his boyfriend Trent (who's the epitome of a douche-bag) cheats on him with numerous people then runs into him at a bar where the local cops (Trent) and firefighters (Avery) hang out, with his new boyfriend.... Trying desperately to ignore them and not really succeding a new transfer Luke comes to introduce himself and Avery sees a sadness in him that kinda intrigues him...so knowing he's just new in town and still staying in a hotel he tells him he has an extra room for rent and they become roomies :)
They try the friends thing for a while as Luke isn't gay and well...they work and live together, but after a while, after one-too many they let lust get the better of em...
Avery knows he's just an experiment to Luke but falls for him anyway..... Luke has some baggage and a whole lot of loss in his life already and they have a pretty dangerous job, but he falls for him anyway... there's some bumps along the way and freak out by Luke....but a simple fishin trip with the Cap. straightens things out and Avery finds out why Luke is the way he is, and Luke feels like in trying not to "lose" Avery, he's lost him anyway... So... they get their HEA and it's a cute and funny ride to get there...
I dug it!

Well well well. Helloooo there *bats lashes* where have you been hiding?? Wow this one was surprisingly goooood!! Firemen AND gfy, I knew it was going to be a gamble but it was well done!

I blew through this one as it kept my interest with well developed characters, very smexy smexytimes, AND - gasp!! - very believable romance between these two strong dudes. This had everything from a stalker-ish smarmy douchey ex to a very difficult haunting family tragedy. As Luke works toward sharing his past with Avery, Avery in turn struggles to trust that Luke's interest in him is real and not a fleeting 'experiment'. In the meantime they have some very hot encounters And when they DO truly come together, I'm shocked that their sheets didn't catch on fire! Hoo boy!

This was a great find, 4 very strong stars!

This was an okay story, but it didn't feel very well thought out. Everything just happened too suddenly and with flimsy explanations. First off, I am not a fan of the "suddenly realized you're gay" thing as a plot device. I know it's a very popular form, but when it is used I just feel like the struggle should be bigger, more realistic. This was almost...flippant. Also, the way in which we discover the truth about the MCs personal demons felt lazy, the way it was just dumped on the reader all at once.

I disliked the way the gay-for-you theme played out, didn't buy it, but it was an overall sexy story.

Love doesn't discriminate in this story. Luke has been off the job for three months to deal with personal issues when he transfers to the Skeenville Fire Department. The fire chief quickly introduces him to Avery. After a brief chat Avery asks Luke to be his roommate. Luke soon realizes that something has changed, he's looking at Avery in a way he's never looked at a man before. Avery is openly gay and finds Luke very attractive but he's not about to make a move on a straight man. Despite everything they connect, now its just getting past the hidden pain of the past to find a way to the future.

Wow.

The characters really did me in. No pictures necessary as your words did them justice. They drove me crazy but in a very good way. I would hope for another just to fill in some blanks. Okay they are my blanks but still would be fun. Read this book it will be and is worth it.

Firefighters are hot...but need confidence in their personal lives...

I loved the ending...
Avery and Luke have painful pasts...and you really want them to be able to work through them, trust each other and move on.
With the help of their captain they have a shot at something good...they just need to build some trust, open up the lines of communication...and share.

I really liked everything about this story until I got close to the end, then things just died. The MCs were great and their love story was sweet. The pacing through out the story was perfect but their HEA was too rushed for my liking, sadly it left me feeling disappointed.

I loved Up in Flames, it was hot, sexy, fast paced, not perfect and kept me interested all the way through. I liked Avery and Luke and that they’re firefighters, just a little extra. I thought it was an good GFY story and I would definitely recommend this story.

S.C. Wynne is one of my favorite authors and I think that I like everything she writes. Enjoyed this story of two firemen that were both broke and found that together they were better than apart. Recommend reading.

Boring, unrealistic and predictable. The characters just didn’t add up. None of it made sense. And yet still predictable. This was not my book.
