This time, Gertrude goes to the cottage with Starr and the rest of her family. Starr’s mother is worried Gertrude will get into trouble at the cottage—and Gertrude does. Starr finds her goat floating out to sea on an old boat! Will Gertrude be saved in time?

About the author

Starr Dobson is the president and CEO of the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.

She is an acclaimed journalist, having worked as a reporter, producer, and host at CTV Atlantic for 23 years. She's also a dedicated community volunteer. This is Starr's second children's book.

She lives in Halifax with her husband and two children, and they have a spoiled dog, but no goat!

Picked up this delightful children's book while in Nova Scotia this past summer. You will just love Gertrude. She is a get in to trouble kind of goat, but a goat that can be depended on to save the day when needed. The illustrations are lively and the facial expressions of both humans and animals make you want to smile from ear to ear. Just a treat of a book.

This cute story happened in the author’s childhood when they owned a dog named Chips and a goat named Gertrude. When the family took their pets with them to their beach cottage it was Gertrude’s first time, and she quickly adapted. She was curious, and when Starr’s dad had to swim out to rescue Gertrude from drowning, the family discovered something extra special about her, too.
