The Sea Wicche Chronicles #3

Wicching Hour: The Sea Wicche Chronicles, Book 3

Rate this book
I'm Arwyn Cassandra Corey, the Sea Wicche of Monterey. My new art gallery is finally open, my boyfriend is the new Alpha of the Big Sur pack, and my sorcerer cousin is still on the loose. It's been a lot. I'm just sayin'.

Detectives Hernández and Osso are asking for my help again. Bodies have been found torn up in the woods in a manner that has those in the know thinking werewolf. Declan, as Alpha, will need to investigate his pack and help hunt the killer.

We're narrowing in on Calliope and her demon. She can't hide forever, and my uncle might just have the map to where she's been holed up. If it's the last thing I do, I'll make her pay for her treachery.

Did I mention there's a new podcast, hosted by a human, who is coming dangerously close to telling the kind of secrets the supernatural community kills to keep quiet? His latest season is about a certain artistic wicche.

Oh, and I finally met my dad. Like I said, it's been a lot.

Contains mature themes.

Cute, and I love the narrator - she puts me at ease in the best way. But I don't know if I feel the NEED to keep reading this series. Maybe as a palate cleanser or something.

3.5/5.0

If I had to explain this particular series, it would have to be a “Cozy Urban Fantasy” if there is such a thing. It’s as much about relationships as it is about fighting sorcerer’s and bad guys. It never does rise to the nail-biting excitement or page turning intrigue that most UF’s do. But it keeps this reader coming back because the characters are just so enjoyable to read and watch grow and develop.

Light and amusing. I enjoy the series a lot. Witches, werepersons, fae, elementals, selkies, octopi and even some humans can be found in her stories.

Arwyn finally has the opening for her art gallery.

Everything goes off spectacularly at Arwyn's gallery opening, even her newly discovered father attends. It's not all fun and games though as there's a man watching her intently all night, he makes Arwyn extremely uncomfortable until finally be is removed by the security. Then at trending the night Detective Hernandez turns up needing Arwyn's help with a murder case. Arwyn is left exhausted but she still has to deal.with finding her cousin Calliope (an evil sorceress) then she sees that man again from the gallery opening and realises he's the same man she and Declan chased away a few weeks ago.................so now she also has a stalker to deal with............

This book was much better than the last one in the series. I love this author’s writing and Sam Quinn series is one of my top 5 urban fantasy series. With this book I can see Arynn’s story hitting its stride. There were multiple plots but they all tied together in the end. Finally some got their comeuppance and there’s big surprises in store. This story definitely explored family dynamics and loyalty and it’s good to see the found family rallying around Arynn as well as some of her blood family finally stepping up. All in all a very good read

This was more of a 3.6 read for me. It isn't truly a 4 star read but it isn't that bad that I'd rate it 3 stars.

Now, this book moved too slow and too fast, all at the same time. I started it a few days after it was published, but when we got to the reading of the first murder scene, I couldn't get into it. So I languished at the beginning of that chapter until yesterday when I was captive audienced (at the salon) and it was the perfect opportunity to continue with the book.

BRIEF SPOILER

“If,” I began, “after spending more time with me, you decide this was a horrible idea, tell me and I’ll go. Don’t resent me in silence. That would kill me.”

Chapter 35 Home
Is for my home improvement girlies.
Is for anyone who has ever gotten their own place that they loved.
Is so much love.

What I love in this book was the found family, in family.

The house tour scene and the one where Arwyn had a conversation with Bracken about being together brought tears to my eyes. The earlier one another customer actually noticed me getting teary eyed while reading this while I was mid braids.

“You two should be the first to sleep in your bedroom.

Look at Tyler. Considerate but also shows a real life character not a 1 dimensional one. I also loved all the new people coming into Arwyn's life and I love that there are more people of colour in the series.

The book also touches on a lot of what is taking place in the world but this also felt very America geared in all that is happening there politically.

Bracken was my favourite character in this book. I hope we see more of him. Ooh, now I'm curious to know, when he met Orla, if she saw him, saw him? 🤔

I have always loved Arwyn and Declan's moments. However, somebody tell me whether it's me who forgot how the series has been but their sex scenes are now all fade to black. Not that I even need a descriptive scene between them because either way they give me the feels, but it seemed we moved from on page, not explicit open door scenes to completely fade to black ones.

Another thing that didn't sit right with me this story is the family revelations. With her Gran, with her mum+dad's history and then we also got Bracken's perspective and I'll also include Calliope's perspective here. While I love the direction now being taken in Elizabeth+Robert's family, I think they need intense therapy and unfortunately I don't think we are done with the secrets/hoodwinking because it's a large basis of this series.

I am very, very excited for the Fae/Dad world! I enjoyed our moments there and when Arwyn learnt new skills. However, at times her dad felt like a convenient loose end cleaner. We have too much going on and outside threats, here comes Dad to the rescue to clean up that plot thread quick fast.

Oh, absolutely loved this cover!

So, in conclusion, pacing could have done with some work. Looking forward to reading more of Bracken+Dad as favourite side characters. Always love Declan. So glad

Wicching Hour is the third book in the Sea Wicche (autocorrect hates that spelling as much as I do!) urban fantasy series about Arwyn Corey, an artist from Monterey, California, who has powerful magical abilities and bakes a mean muffin, her werewolf boyfriend and various other supernatural family and friends. It’s a spin-off from the author’s Sam Quinn series, but you don’t need to have read those before starting these books. I do recommend reading this series in order though, starting with Bewicched, and including Night Owl Books, a short story set between the previous book, Wicche Hunt and this one, as it introduces Orla, a minor but still important character featured here. You do get some backstory here but by now there’s quite a large cast of characters and it would make a lot more sense than diving in here.

Arwyn’s gallery is finally open, her relationship with hunky werewolf alpha Declan is going well and her mysterious fae father, that she has never known, is now keen to get to know her. If only she didn’t have a stalker, a serial killer, aggressive wolves and a psychopathic sorcerer cousin to deal with, not to mention her snobby standoffish grandmother… Arwyn’s plenty powerful on her own, but her gifts come with unfortunate side effects so she’s going to need all the help she can get!

This was my favourite of the series so far - and I think I prefer these books to Sam’s series, enjoyable though that is. It’s one of the few series that I’ll actually buy on pre-order! I love that Arwyn is always able to get herself out of trouble, but doesn’t mind accepting help, rather than having to be rescued by her man. Declan helps her in plenty of other ways though, he’s always got her back without being all macho about it. The developing relationship with her father was also both touching and fascinating. I liked how the main baddie plot thread was wrapped up, but some interesting new developments pave the way for plenty more character development in the next books. In fact the only thing I don’t like about these books is that the woman on the cover, though beautiful, doesn’t match the description we are given of what Arwyn looks like. That’s not a reason to deduct any stars though - I tore through this and was very satisfied with the ending so five happy stars it is!

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)

4.5*

FYI I rated the first book at 3.75 stars, for me the books became better with each one.

First time read the author's work?: No

Will you be reading more?: Yes

Would you recommend?: Yes

------------
How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author)
4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author).
3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series)
or
3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)

All of the above scores means I would recommend them!
-
2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.)
1* = Disliked

Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)

Fun! Best of the series so far. Big closure to one plotline. Happily the series is continuing, although the next will not be here until 2026 :( May be time to start re-reading Sam Quinn series and finish that one out, I've forgotten most of it by now.

Only thing frustrating is making excuses for abusive family members. She discovered to me a large betrayal with Gran but then gets angry then tries to excuse it. No, there's no excuse for that just because she also did nice things with the results of the con. Even certain serial killers did "nice things" sometimes. Her inconsistency with her family members and maltreatment bugs me.

I'm still really enjoying this series. There were some mini crossovers (in person & mentioned) from Kelly's Sam Quinn series and Night Owl Books, which is always fun. Reading those isn't necessary to enjoy this series, but I'd recommend them b/c they are very good reads.

Wicching Hour by Seana Kelly is the third book in the series about a Cassandra wicche and her family. They finally make some progress towards finding and stopping the sorceress in the family and more characters are linked together. I love this series and can't wait for the next one.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this series. This world is incredible. The storyline is well-crafted and I get totally immersed in the telling. I would have finished sooner if not for stupid real life work demands 😂 Anyway, a Seana Kelly book is always outstanding and an auto-buy for me. I read my Kindle copy but also ordered print version for my keeper shelves. Grab a copy if you haven’t tried this series

I have to admit, The Wicching Hour is hands down my favorite book in the Sea Wicche Chronicles so far. It’s packed with so much emotion, so much heart—it had me hooked from start to finish.

We kick things off with Arwyn’s gallery opening, which is such an exciting moment for her. And, of course, her father’s presence there adds a lot of weight to the scene. Being a water Fae and a sea god, he exudes a powerful, commanding presence, which is both awe-inspiring and a little intimidating. As the story progresses, we get to see just how long he’s been watching over Arwyn. He’s protective and fiercely supportive of her, but it’s clear he’s always been there, even when we didn’t know it. I love how his role in her life expands—it adds depth to their relationship. He recognizes Arwyn’s strength, yet remains a constant protector, which makes for some really touching moments.

The family dynamics continue to evolve, and there are some jaw-dropping secrets revealed—especially with Faith and Frank. Gran has always been this steady matriarch, but as the story unfolds, the light starts to shift on that image. We get more insight into Bracken’s past, and the entire picture of the Corey family starts to come together in ways you didn’t expect. There’s a lot of complexity within the family that’s uncovered here, which makes the emotional stakes even higher.

I can’t talk about this book without mentioning Bracken—he’s become one of my all-time favorite characters. I think we can all relate to either being a Bracken or having one in our lives. His dynamic with Arwyn is so real and raw. Their exchanges are always loaded with emotion, and you can feel the weight of everything they’ve been through. Bracken’s character is just so well-crafted; he almost steals the show from Arwyn herself (though Arwyn is still, of course, an amazing FMC).

The generational pain within the Corey family is a big theme, and it’s so relatable. You see the betrayal, the power struggles, and the corruption that’s been passed down, and it’s heartbreaking yet believable. It adds so much depth to the story, making every twist feel earned.

We also get to see more of Orla and the cousins—both Osso’s and Arwyn’s (Faith and Frank). These characters help flesh out the world even further and make it feel more real and interconnected. There’s a lot going on, and it’s thrilling to see the world-building grow with each book.

The story ends with an intense focus on tracking down the sorcerer and confronting the evil that’s been haunting them. The conclusion brings a mix of death and new life, which makes for a powerful and satisfying finish. It leaves you with that perfect balance of resolution and anticipation for what’s to come next.

Overall, The Wicching Hour is an emotional rollercoaster, packed with rich character development, dark family secrets, and a plot that will keep you turning the pages. If you’ve been following the Sea Wicche Chronicles, you absolutely can’t miss this one—it takes the series to a whole new level. If you’re new to the series, definitely pick it up, but make sure to read the earlier books first. You won’t regret it!

I was so worried with the way this book wrapped up that it would be the last in the series, but happily it continues! We get big resolution here, so buckle up, because there is a lot for Arwyn to do here.

First up - her studio finally opens! After all the hard work, it was very satisfying to see her succeed and be able to “own” that part of her life. Don’t worry, though, because there’s more than enough other stuff she needs to deal with to various degrees of success. First, she’s working on a relationship with her father. She’s also trying to convince him that killing people that threaten her is not OK - not sure she was really successful here. Then there’s the growing rumblings in the pack which is likely related to the evil lurking nearby still. Declan is strung out trying to pull the troubled pack back together while still being the excellent boyfriend AND do renovation work on his place.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, we still have the lurking sorcerer threat that they have been trying to track down for the last few books. We get major breakthroughs here but not without some losses along the way. Throughout all this, we still get Arwyn’s visions saving the day in random ways, sometimes with the police and sometimes just during her regular chaotic life. All in all, this book found a way to take a story about so many paranormal elements and boil it down to family.

This book might just be my favorite in the series so far. It has everything—romance, mystery, magic—but what I loved most was seeing how much Arwyn has grown. She’s stronger and becomes more sure of herself, and it’s been such a joy to follow her journey.

That doesn’t mean things are getting any easier for her, though. Her art gallery is finally open, Declan is now Alpha of the Big Sur pack, and her sorcerer cousin Calliope is still out there causing trouble. Then, bodies start turning up in the woods, and all signs point to a werewolf attack. Declan has to investigate his pack, and of course, Arwyn is right in the middle of it.

As if that wasn’t enough, there’s a podcaster who’s way too close to exposing supernatural secrets—and he’s focusing on Arwyn in his latest season. Just what she needs on top of everything else.

But the moment that really stood out? She finally meets her dad. After so much waiting and wondering, it was such a powerful and emotional part of the story.

This book is full of heart, and balances action, humor, and deep character moments so well. Arwyn isn’t just surviving anymore—she’s standing her ground and taking charge of her life. I loved every minute of it, and now I can’t wait for the next one!

Wicching Hour by Seana Kelly

A perfect culmination of magic, mayhem, and emotional payoff. I adored how everything came to a head in Wicching Hour—from the explosive family dynamics to the subtle blossoming relationships that make you feel all squishy inside. The dad swooping in like a magical caped crusader? Iconic. The possibility of Mom and Dad reconciling? Delicious emotional tension. And don’t get me started on the uncle—he is simply everything. Also, Owl lady? Low-key shipping it.

Honestly, everything about this story just clicked, and even though I felt that pang of sorrow when I reached the last page, knowing there’s another book coming in 2026 pulled me back from the brink. Barely.

There are high stakes here - but the way in which the author writes has people die so casually that several times I had to re-read the previous page to understand that they were dead.
I wasn't a big fan of Sam/Clive series - Clive? Cannot get past a hero with that name, it's a British thing. So I read book 1 and moved on happily.
The blurb for this series pulled me in, plus it was on sale. The family dynamic was intriguing. The police work. Declan, was a worthy romance figure.
I dived into the next two books happily, and would read more in the series I think. Though I would ask the author to use another device other than a/multiple stalker threat/s each novel as a side thread, it is now really repetitive and kind of boring.

Ms Kelly is a truly special author

I’ve enjoyed two of Ms Kelly’s series and they are both fascinating reads. The plots are so creative and interesting. All of the characters are fresh and engaging. The writing is insanely talented that you become immersed into this world on page 1 and never want to leave. Arwen’s story is the focus of this series. A few highlights of this book are the introduction of her (really cool) Dad, the further development of her relationship with Alpha Declan, and the evil happenings from her cousin sorcerer. Really looking forward to the next book, book 4!

Immerse yourself in a world where the veil between reality and the supernatural is thin, where the glittering facades of bustling cities hide ancient secrets and magical bloodlines clash in silent wars. Perfect for readers craving intricately woven narratives of urban fantasy, this tale delves deep into the complexities of supernatural society. Expect to be captivated by dark and enigmatic mysteries that unfold at a deliberate pace, revealing shocking truths about power, ambition, and the sacrifices made for legacy. At the heart of it all, a slow-burn romance simmers, adding another layer of emotional depth as characters navigate dangerous alliances and personal desires. This is not a simple story of good versus evil, but a journey into the shades of gray, exploring the motivations of individuals caught in the crossfire of magical family dramas and fierce battles for dominance.

There is so much going on in this one, both good and bad. A lot of family secrets come out, family ties tested, some break, while others end up stronger. Overall, Arwyn has a really strong group to surround herself with, ones that will have her back, as they proved and are up to help the betterment of the community too. After all that happened in this one, I look forward to the next book, to see what the consequences of so many secrets coming out are and to see Arwyn continue to build a great life!

I did enjoy the book overall, but I found the main character a bit melodramatic from the start, unrelated to what is later revealed , and I wasn’t really a fan of her. However, I became quite attached to the side characters, and I love them. But when I started to lose interest in the main character, the series began to take a downward turn. Overall, I still enjoyed the series, so I’ll definitely read the next book. I’m hoping it’s better, but I’m not sure if there’s going to be another one.⭐️4/5⭐️

I enjoyed the book very much, Arwyn’s little ragtag group growing in size and fleshing out even more.
Some interesting surprises but they gained more sense with the later happenings of the storyline.
I also liked that the focus is now shifting to who else is causing trouble, i was tired of the evil cousin already 😬

I devoured this, loved it like the previous books in this series, but i almost cried seeing that the next book is a year away 😭

Another great entry in the series.

This book wraps up one of the storylines but opens up new avenues to explore. Arwyn finally learns more about her father and begins to develop a relationship with him but will it come at a cost? She also learns things about her mother’s side of the family that are hard to take.

There’s lots of action in this book and lots to look forward to in upcoming books.

Arwyn & Declan survive the opening of the Gallery, however, not all is well. There is a stalker, a sorcerer, visions of arsonists, the pack is becoming aggressive due to the sorcerer and a poisoning attempt.

However, Arwyn's dad makes an appearance at the opening, Mac, the Irish Fae Sea Lord, and wants to get to know her.

This is such a good series, along with the Sam Quinn series which is connected through both heroines being cousins.

Looking forward to more books in both series.

So, I tried to read this slowly, to savour it and make it last and I failed epically. Oh well, now I'm going to have to wait for the next one, oh so long away!
Where do I start? So enjoyable. Great characters, love the world building, great story arc, satisfying conclusion. Highly recommended.

Seana Kelly is so very talented! Her books are so engaging and they suck me in every time. It's hard to to anything once I start a new book and I am so sad when I finish and have to wait for another one!

This book continues Arwyn's story. I love the theme of her life of bringing the "misfits" together and showing that there is a home and a place for everyone. Highly recommend!
