While trapped in a convenience store on a snowy New Year’s Eve, Marine Lucas Tate made a promise to his childhood sweetheart and future wife, Gabby—he would never leave her side again.

Twelve years later, he’s done just that…

While serving in Guatemala, Lucas survived an accident that left him with the supernatural capability of seeing visions of people dying before they actually do. To protect Gabby from his secret and those who gave him the ability, Lucas leaves her, drops out of society, and becomes homeless on the streets of Reno, Nevada—until, one day, he is given a chance at a new life by a stranger who calls himself Joe Smith, on the condition that he sober up and regain his physical strength.

Anger and sadness become Gabby Tate’s companions as she struggles to get by without her husband. In her search for answers, she finds herself caught up in a world she never knew existed, and suffers greatly at the hands of those hunting Lucas.

Reunited by fate, Lucas and Gabby must join forces to stop his persecutors. Through betrayal and heartbreak, Lucas must reveal his secrets to Gabby, who is now faced with the biggest decision of her life: Can she go beyond the past and forgive Lucas for breaking his promise to her not once, but twice?

REVIEW: BEYOND THE PAST is the second installment in Carly Fall’s contemporary, adult Supernatural Renegades paranormal romance series focusing on a team of former marines whose last secret mission to Guatemala left each member of the platoon with a supernatural power. This is former marine Lucas Tate and realtor Gabby Tate’s storyline. Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty.

The focus of the series follows each Marine as he returns home to a different world. The military demands complete silence and secrecy from each of the returnees otherwise termination –from life-is next on the horizon. Life will become too difficult and lonely when the government orders complete compliance resulting in emotional and physical stress for each of our survivors. While Lucas roams the streets of Reno –homeless and hungry-his wife of twelve years finds herself the victim of a brutal attack and kidnapping.

The relationship between Gabby and Lucas has already been established but twelve years of marriage has been destroyed by the dark and dangerous secrets Lucas is unable to reveal. With the increasing threats escalading against his wife and his life, Lucas decides Gabby will be safer if he disappeared for good. But an unexpected meeting from a former member of his platoon will put everything into perspective when he is given a chance to clean up and move forward with his life. Enter the mysterious Joe Smith who makes Lucas an offer he cannot refuse.

We are introduced to Garrett ‘Honey’ Bloom, another former marine buddy whose specialized talent is for the ‘bears’. While Lucas’s ability to see visions of impending death leaves him haunted and exhausted, Garrett’s ability is more animalistic in behavior and nature. Joe Smith returns as the mentor each marine will need to survive as he begins to amass a private firm of protectors for the rich and famous. Brody and Rayna from book one ‘BY SEA’ return when Lucas and Gabby get a bit of time for a little R&R. The government’s secret ‘Group Nine’ continue to hunt for each of the missing marines and in this there are many more stories to tell.

BEYOND THE PAST is a storyline of suspense, action, second chances and love. A government experiment that went horribly wrong has resulted in changed lives and damaged DNA yet we are no closer to uncovering the who and the why. I think a little more background information is needed.

Carly Fall writes from the heart: her heroes are human, vulnerable and real, and their stories are heartbreaking and sad. The little bit of supernatural storyline blends easily with the contemporary world of romance and love. Our heroes will get their happily ever after but it won’t always be an easy path they follow.

I loved it. characters action... adventure... suspense... romance... edge of your seat can't wait to continue the storyline. you never want to turn the book off. characters come to life. they draw you into their lives and make you feel their emotions as if you were there. no way to predict how or where the story is going to take you. you think it is going one way and it gives you a curve ball. never a dull moment.

I haven't listened to many books. found this narrator was easy on the ears. he brought the characters to life and personified their personalities. he got you used to how each character sounded then built on that premise...using their voice to quite them instead of this person said this and that person said something else. he didn't just read the words. he helped bring the book to life. some narrators just read the words (Peter said "I'm going good to the fair. " "I'll join you later " responded Gail) this narrator would use 2 distinct voices. most would read just the words as written. it is a surprising and enjoyable difference

I would recommend this book as a must read/listen. it made me was to read books 1 and 3 of the series.

this book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

The second book in the Supernatural Renegades series was even better than the first. The character of Lucas really hit home for me as the wife of a veteran. His feelings of helplessness, frustration, and depression after being discharged from service were very well portrayed. I also felt for Gabby, who had to deal with a lot of the confusion and sadness that comes along with being married to someone who comes home from war changed from the person he used to be.

Of course, with the paranormal twist of Lucas having come home with abilities he didn't possess before he left, things get pretty interesting. I wondered how Lucas could be redeemed after walking out on his wife with nothing by a note and no explanation. However, from the moment I met him, Lucas pulled on my heartstrings and I rooted from him in his fight to get Gabby back until the end. With lots of laughs and some action as well, the story was well-rounded, and of course left plenty of room for more. I particularly enjoyed Garrett's character--sexy black dude who can shift in to a bear? I'm so here for it, and I can't wait to read his story, as a lot of the laugh out loud moments I experienced were because of him.

I absolutely loved this story and have to admit that I actually liked it even better than By Sea, the first book in the Supernatural Renegades series. Lucas and Gabby Tate are childhood sweethearts who are so real and likeable, I couldn't help but fall in love with them and worry that Lucas wouldn't be able to rescue Gabby from the monster who was hired to silence them about the experiment that was conducted on Lucas and the rest of his unit. This was such a good story and would definitely recommend it!

This is a Freaking Awesome Series… yes I know I am getting ahead of myself saying that (since this is only the second book) but I am serious because I have never read any books like this before (and I have read a LOT of paranormal/fantasy books). Joe Smith is awesome and honestly I believe Joe Smith is an Alias for whatever his real name may be but he helped out Brody and now he is helping out Lucas.

Great

This book was not quite as good as the first book but overall it was good. My only complaint is that one of the team was included in this book but we were never told how he met me smith. I am going to be continuing this series I just wish they were a little cheaper.

Love this series..

I really liked By Sea, the first book in the Supernatural Renegades, but in this book I couldn’t see what Lucas’s ability could possibly help anyone. Even at 80% I didn’t understand it, and I couldn’t understand him leaving Gabby instead of telling her what was going on. I know the government told him they would kill her if he told her but HOW would they even know? The author could have done this story a little better.

I did like Garrett, and I’m more than a little curious about Joe Smith and Thomas. I can’t wait to read about what’s going on with Joe. Who is he? What is he? Does he really have a company, or is he just a very wealthy man who’s out for revenge of some kind. He’s the most fascinating character in these books.

There was no sexual attraction, except for what Gabby felt for Jerrod, who was not her husband, the hero, but she didn’t let it go anywhere. BUT there was explicit sex between the hero and heroine, once they got back together. Usually I can’t stand books without sexual tension of some kind but when the book is holding my interest I don’t even miss it. This Supernatural Renegade series is an attention getter from the git-go.

There was swearing, too. The F-bomb was used 27 times. As it should be in these kinds of books.

As to the narration: Gordon Palagi was just ok for me. He read the entire book in a soft and mellow voice with no emotion whatsoever, everything he read sounded like a whisper but there was absolutely no laughter or anger or anything else a narrator is supposed to show when reading. This was, at times, a brutal book but you’d never have known that by the way he read every word just like the last. He was really kind of bland.

This is the 2nd book in Carly's Supernatural Renegades Series. The characters of Lucas and Gabby worked well together. Lucas has the supernatural ability of seeing visions of peoples deaths before they occur. I enjoy the concept of the series with each person on the team having a different ability but am hoping that as the series progresses things come together where their abilities play a role in their new jobs with Joe. I am looking forward to the next book to see what the next supernatural ability is.

Supernatural Renegades Book Two

Lucas Tate has been living on the streets for the past six months to protect his wife, Gabby, from the military men who gave him the power to see future deaths in his mind. Garrett finds him, though, and offers him a job he cannot refuse. However, when Gabby is abducted and abused Lucas becomes determined to find the man responsible and end the threat to Gabby forever.

If you're looking for a quick read about magic and military experimentation, this is the book for you!
