5 Star review of Women of Washington Avenue (Moonlight Mississippi #1) by Linda Apple Audio Review: Linda Apple is a new author to me as is the narrator Teri England who did a good job of narrating the characters in a variety of voices and this absolutely enhanced my listening enjoyment. I really enjoyed this book, perhaps because the characters are more my age, or that they reminded my of one of my favourite moves, Steel Magnolias, but I jumped at the chance to listen to this one. Moonlight, Mississippi just the name made me smile. A story of strong independent and sassy women who all deserve another chance at love. This book drew me in and kept me entertained throughout.
I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I wasn't sure what I was getting in to with this book, but I absolutely loved it. You don't find many books that address the passion in an older woman's life. There is life after 50, after all. The author did a great job of bring humor into the lives of these women. You need to listen carefully because it addresses the lives of four women and their closeness in a small southern town. In places it was soooo funny, and in other places I had to find a tissue. The narrator, Terri England, did a great job with these women, the men in their lives and their families. Great job on the southern accent. Looking forward to more stories on the lives of these four women.
Linda Apple knows how to whip together a delicious novel that will keep readers turning the pages. The Women of Washington Avenue invite you into their lives through intimate, first person narratives that alternate between four main characters, Avalee, Molly Kate, Lexi, and Jema. And the menfolk aren’t bad either.
These are characters you wish you could share a front porch with to sip hot coffee or tea or something stronger. A grand and glorious treat full of twists, turns, and secrets galore…and maybe even a little romance. Tight writing that zips along and pulls at your funny bone one second while you’re reaching for a tissue the next. Ms. Apple proves that romantic love doesn’t die when a woman turns fifty.
Always a delight to read a novel that’s so well written! Be on the lookout for the second book in the series, Avalee’s Gift, releasing soon.
