The Shattered Kingdom:

Rate this book
Book Two of The Cursed Kingdom series—where loyalty is fragile, mate bonds are dangerous, and war is approaching.

Abby thought things couldn’t get worse. She was wrong.

Her best friend shares a mate bond with her two sworn enemies, Mason won’t stop following her around, and Lill has been accused of treason.

Alibis aren’t adding up, memories don’t align, and Abby has no idea whom to trust. The only constant? Every path leads back to the shifters.

When the faerie royal family is attacked, every finger points toward Lill and the shifters. Tensions peak, and when Mason publicly calls into question the shaky peace agreement between the faerie and shifter kingdoms, everything unravels.

Abby is forced to choose sides. Does she stand by Lill, her best friend since childhood? Or does she trust Kie and Mason, the two men who have shown her nothing but cruelty and indifference?

Now THIS is how the fuck you write a second book!!! For everyone who had to wait after that cliffhanger….wow, I feel for you, because I would’ve been so mad ( I actually was mad and I had booked two sitting right next to me lmao)I Honestly, didn’t even wanna start the second book at first, but thank god I did, because it gave me everything I needed. Every. Single. Fucking. Thing. 👏🏻

The pacing and story from book one make so much more sense once you dive into this one. Things pick up quickly, and it all just flows so effortlessly.

I was so excited to get back to this book. If I’d had the time, I probably would’ve devoured it in one sitting. Instead, I spent my whole day at work thinking about it, just waiting to get back to these characters. And when a book has me like that? It’s usually an automatic five stars and this one def delivered.

The spice? Had me hot and botheredddd. I loved how it was written, and I devoured that slow burn like it was nobody’s business. You can put me between Kie and Mason any day of the week and I’ll be a happy fucking girl. A shifter AND a fae? SAY NO MORE I’m already undressing.

I loved the direction the story went in. It had the perfect balance of political intrigue, plot, and spice all woven together flawlessly. The setup for book three has me so intrigued. Do I know where it’s going? Maybe. Do I trust this author after what they pulled in book one? Absolutely not 😭😂 But either way, I’m dying to read it.

This is a serious where book 1 gave me enemies, and morally grey men who seemed irredeemable…but book 2 gave me tension and groveling, along with so many secrets! I devoured this book in 1 sitting! In true Invi humor fashion, when I say groveling, I mean he literally tried to suck her big toe because that’s what she told him to do to make it up to her.

”I’ll sleep with you get on your knees and beg for my forgiveness. I want you to tell me how meaningless your life is without me and how ashamed you are of the way you treated me. Then I want you to suckle on my big toe while you call me “Daddy.”

This book had me laughing 50 percent of the time and on the edge of my seat the other 50 percent. Everything I thought I knew, I in fact did not.

When the goddess Zaha refuses the princes gift and offers them a bargain in order to save them in the war against the shifters it’s the last thing they expect. Abby isn’t sure how to feel about them being her best friend’s mates, and why she’s feeling things she shouldn’t be for them. Also, why is her best friend lying, and why did she commit the ultimate betrayal?

This book is high tension, secrets, and a ton of twists. The spice in this books picks up, but it’s not over done and actually adds to the plot. I cannot wait for the third book, because that cliffhanger was brutal!

Thank you so much to Invi Wright for the gifted copy in exchange for my honest review

DNF at 41% (Keep that in mind, please)

Um… I know that after giving the first book 2 stars only, I maybe shouldn’t have tried this but I still wanted to know what would happen and I didn’t get far until I just stopped caring for all characters and basically anything. It was still quite underwhelming and even after I did get an answer to a question that was left after the first book… It felt weird.

I also just don’t like the love interests. Like? You’re telling me I’m supposed to root for a guy who thinks it’s okay to steal her underwear? Kinda cringe. I really tried to enjoy this more and it’s okay since it’s not for everyone. It is what it is. But still. Sadge :(

Now this is the Invi I recognize. The book is 60% smut, 35% plot, 5% WTF.

I really enjoyed the story in book 1, but this one went much faster with chapters of smut. So the story was fun but you need to understand it’s completely NSFW.

It left on a cliff hanger that wasn’t as crazy as the last one, but still has me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what will happen.

I listened to this one curtesy of Maverick Audio, and I liked the narrators. They didn’t add a lot to the listening experience but it was still fun and easy to listen to them.

sorta surprised at how okay Abby’s family are with all this. that’s the only thing im like what the hell.
literally so obsessed with this concept of having 2 mates like abby is the luckiest women ever. no seriously read this, you’ll know what i mean😏

This one was SO much better than the last one. I'm glad I decided to follow through with the series. It did start to get a little boring, but the sneak peek spiced things up a bit. I'm really curious to see what happens with Lill and if her relationship with Abby will be salvageable. It also left things with a ton of questions, so I'll be reading the next book to see if things improve further. I really enjoy that since I tend to find a lot of series fizzle out as they progress and greatly prefer the opposite.

It all fell a bit flat for me. It wasn’t bad at all but I wasn’t loving it either. Love that Mason was obsessed. Kie was kinda boring and Abby got even more annoying. I hate that mason was like “I just knew you were my mate” but we missed the thoughts on this when it was his pov.

I’VE WAITING FOR THIS ONE BABES
Nothing warms my heart than a book that reads like the combo of hot fries, sour gummy bears, and a dr pepper- is it the best? Not necessarily. Is it what I desire? Yes.

This picks up immediately after book one (thank goodness..) and the cliffhanger from book one is resolved fairly quickly. This is super bingeable and enjoyable but just a little too much spice for my liking. Book 1 had basically 0 spice so I was surprised by how much was in this one. I will definitely continue this series, but I might not jump to it immediately when it comes out.

The series is cute but not my fav of invi wright’s. There’s a lot of repetition in the writing and if I read “clock it” again in a fantasy setting I’m going to lose my mind.

Overall, this book was better than the first, but that is not saying much. The Shattered Kingdom tries to build an epic fantasy around political intrigue, danger, and fae magic, but the plot is quickly lost beneath a heavy focus on romance through the “mate bond” and not in a way that feels intentional or earned. The story continually abandons its own stakes in favor of developing an unlikely romance leaving the worldbuilding and central conflict feeling thin and underdeveloped. I would have expected the world building from the first book to continue, but we’re stuck inside the compound for the whole book other than one stint into the forest for a chapter or two.

One of the most glaring issues is Abby’s emotional inconsistency. Her childhood friend Lilian goes missing after murdering the Queen, which should be a seismic event in both her personal life and the political landscape. Instead, Abby barely thinks about it. The disappearance is glossed over so completely that once she sleeps with Kie and Mason, Lilian is essentially forgotten. If this is under the guise that the mate bind has taken over her mind, it’s weak writing at best. The ignorance of this major shift in her life goes against everything that we learned about Abby in the first book, when she was INSUFFERABLE in her actions fighting to get home to Lillian with more tea….

The same problem shows up in her attitude toward her family. After demanding they be brought to the faerie realm—implying they are deeply important to her—she promptly ignores them in favor of hooking up with Kie and Mason. When she finally sees them at a party after they’d believed her dead, the moment holds almost no weight and she runs away to the roof with Mason instead.

Her family’s reactions are equally baffling; they seem instantly, unbotheredly supportive of her polyamorous relationship with two non-human beings, which feels wildly unrealistic given the emotional upheaval they should be experiencing. They’re happy to abandon their lives and accept that their daughter has become Queen?? Pretty bizarre.

Invi’s writing is also very repetitive. She uses the same phrasing over and over. Not sure if this is a result of poor editing, but I found myself annoyed by the lack of variety in word choice and repetitive descriptions.

Finally, most of the characters exhibit no more emotional intelligence than toddlers. Conflicts are brushed aside, traumas are shrugged at, and the world’s supposed high stakes evaporate the moment a romantic scene enters the room. Temper tantrums are rampant from Abby and Mason. The result of all of the above is a book that has the bones of an exciting fantasy but repeatedly sabotages itself with shallow character reactions and a plot that dissolves every time romance appears. Overall, a poorly crafted book. Wouldn’t read the next one.

You have an entire first book where they are legitimately mean to her honestly 1000% horrid to her

Then you start book 2, and they are not only still awful to her but now her best friend is their mate, and it is not only uncomfortable, but so frustrating

Then when it comes out that she is their mate do they grovel? No, do they treat her like shit still 100%

Not only would I get satisfaction from this if the FMC had any sort of backbone and push pushed back in any sort of way, but she is constantly constantly constantly making sure that they are OK

They put her in dirty clothes they put her in horrible situations. They talk around her and over her as if she is not there, even knowing that she is their mate and the entire time they treat her like she is an inconvenience.
And that whole time she just stays quiet keeps talking about how wonderful it is to be a human and ask the guys if they are OK all the time she is checking in on them like it’s her fucking job

This book made me so mad
I can’t do bully romance where the MMC doesn’t grovel to the extent of the damage that he did in the previous situation

If you want a good grovel and a feeling of remorse, you are not getting it in this book

Because what he crawls one time or licks her shoes like that’s not groveling —they don’t care they just wanted to have sex with you 🙄

Ok I finished book two in a day as well. That’s how good it was.

Do I have complaints, yeah, but I’m just along for the ride honestly. On the positives, the cliffhanger from book one was resolved, but so much tension was created. The spicy scenes!! Epic. Thoughtfully done.

On the not so positives…Plot wise, the friendship falling apart with Lill was so sad. That storyline hasn’t been resolved, but I was looking forward to that friendship continuing and Abby having some solidarity in the faerie realm.

Abby has major body betrayal syndrome in this book, she gets over their history pretty quickly when it comes to the physical stuff. That is not my thing, I live for the grovel.

I’m also feeling like the relationship with Mason has progressed a lot more. The enemies to lovers was stronger with him, and the animalistic traits make everything more heated emotionally when it comes to his protectiveness and affection for her. Kie is reserved. And he’s going through the whole “losing his crown” thing, so I feel kinda bad.

I’m very excited for book three. I can’t wait to see how Invi keeps the tensions going. I’m hopeful for a happy resolution to the Lill drama. And some push and pull between the trio. Maybe a grovel. I’m always hoping for a grovel.

This second book was much better than the first. I was super annoyed by the ending of book one but I quite enjoyed how this one expanded on the story. Here is my breakdown:
Likes:
- I was happy the Lill mate bond thing resolved early in the storyline.
- sexy time in this one is tres magnifique
- this book made me laugh multiple times which is always a plus ☺️
Dislikes:
- a lot of the storyline is built around the character Lillian and she takes off early in the storyline and it almost feels like falls off the side of the desk. They bring her up, trying to find her, and talk to Mason's dad about her, but like she's the whole reason this thing started in faerie and it seems like she's barely part of this storyline. It felt odd.
- I mentioned this in my book one review but it is worthwhile mentioning it again since it continues in this second book: the author talks about characters sucking in their lips and or cheeks way too much, it's repetitive and every time it comes up I cringe as a reader because it's so frequent.

Overall, I liked book two more than book one, but I'm not begging for book three either. I'll keep reading probably, but I'm not dreading a book hangover from this series.

Kie is a faerie, Mace is a shifter and Abbey is a human. You know what I like most about this series? Abbey is just a plain ol human with nothing special about her. Perfect pace, angst, grovelling and plot.

We end book one with Kie and Mace discovering that Abbie’s Faerie BFF is their mate. In the second book we discover that the mate bond is a spell cast on Kie and Mace with a Gods magic (we thought the BFF did this but we discover she had no idea and thought it was real). There’s a war brewing between the shifters and faeries, and one of the Gods has demanded Mace (shifter) becomes king of the faeries, rather than Kie (faerie) (oh also they’re both princes). This is exchange for the God stopping the growth of a plant that renders the faeries magic less and ?can kill them.
Anyway surprise, plain ol Abbey is the true mate to Kie and Mace, and she becomes Queen at the end of this book. Someone keeps trying to kill her though.

Book ends with the treaty between shifters and faeries breaking, and a war pending. Abbeys BFF is a fugitive and missing, Mace is King, and Kie is mediator between his people and Mace.

Will 100% be reading the next one.

Ok I was MAD angry at how the last book ended (even having read a spoiler) and I stayed up til the early hours starting this book and today I am FREAKING exhausted!!!!! 😩 so thank you to the author for my eye bags today 😂😂

I don’t know what it is about Lill but I just don’t like her?! I know that’s kinda the point as the book unravels but I don’t know after everything Abby went through for her I feel like she was like “toodles got my men see you later 😘 “ like she is not a girls girl!!!!!

This was absolutely a solid, wild fun time! A 4 ⭐️

For those looking for spice, it got delivered in this book! 😂

I can’t give the book 5 stars even though it’s such good vibes just because it is totally a vibes read rather than something that had me like absolutely invested and having inner breakdowns etc 😂

I need some emotional damage in my books! I feel this would be a great read for someone in a slump who wants to read something a bit more light hearted.

This is book two. Book one is the Cursed Kingdom where Abby tricks her friend into opening a portal to the faerie realm. This is where we meet Kie and Mason. I loved how book two played out and enjoyed the resolution to the question that were pending from book one. You get to see deeper into each of the characters and learn the personalities and limitations. I love Masons protectiveness and how he jokes around with Abby. Kie is still unsure and nervous if that’s the right word. There are so many more mysteries and question for book three and I can’t wait to get to listen to them. Cassandra Myles did an amazing job narrating these characters. I could tell when it was Kie and Mason and didn’t have to worry about being confused. I loved the details she added to the characters voices and how well she played them. Very good narration.

Ohhhh Book ✌🏼did NOT disappoint. Truly I really didn’t think I could ever forgive Mace and Kie, but dang it did I find myself rooting for them. I also found myself actually laughing at least 50% of the time, and I don’t usually love that type of humor in a book.

Drama, plot, smut. This book ATE and Invi Wright left no crumbs. It was pretty clear from the very beginning that Mace was not as entertained by Lill being his mate. I had strong suspicions that something fishy was going on. I even guessed, as Wright made it really obvious, that Abby was their true mate. I was NOT expecting the following murder. I was genuinely shook, shocked, flummoxed 😶. Absolutely loved the slow burn, enemies to lovers, to fated mates. And you know what? A shifter and a fae? All to herself? Yaaaassssssss. Literally chomping at the bit for book 3! 🤤🤤🤤🔥🔥🔥

I was in a mood after the ending of the first book, definitely questioning everything and worried about moving into the second book.... but..... words cannot explain how good this book was. The plot twist thrown into the last few pages of the first book was then twisted again.... speechless. I am so happy with how the second book twisted and turned. The spice was *chef's kiss*, the character development was so good. Mason and Kei have officially been added to the book boyfriend list. I am foaming at the mouth for the third book! I absolutely adore and am obsessed with Invi Wright's writing, so good, and her characters are some of my favorites. My dread for this book, happily turned into a 2:00am book completion, I couldn't put it down! I LOVE a well written enemies to lovers, thank you Invi!

Spice with a sprinkle of plot.

This book was nothing like Book 1. The first few chapters were engaging and plot driven, but afterwards every second chapter was a spice scene and some plot sprinkled in.

It was really interesting to see the character grow within their relationship, and take up their new positions within the kingdom. But I felt as though it was very rushed and not delved into enough.

This was definitely the lover part of the 'enemies to lovers' trope, but it was done very well. No slow burn in this book.

It was well written, but did not capture me as much as book 1.

I hope book 3 has a better balance of spice and plot, a mix of book 1 and 2 would be perfect. I'd love to see the characters developed more.

I will read book 3 when it comes out.

Shattered Kingdom was a fun, easy read. The spice was delish. Though definitely on the tamer side for Invi.

That said, I really didn’t like Lill. She barely checked in with Abby after everything she went through while literally trying to save her life!
She showed little concern for how the boys treated Abby and seemed far too eager to send her back to the human realm so she could have the boys to herself.
Her one saving grace was standing up for Abby against Jackie…

I adored Kie in book one, but he felt distant in this book. He’s clearly just as obsessed with Abby as Mason is, and I really need him to show her more.

And that sneak peek of book three?! Absolutely wild. I cannot wait to see where this series goes next.

I can't wait for book 3!!!

I can't convey how much I am enjoying this series! Invi Wright keeps me entranced with her stories. She is an instant read for me.

There is spice in this one! So good!

It is a continuation of the first book and ends in not so much a cliffhanger as a pause in the story...a turning. You have to read these books in order.

Again we have FMC Abby and two MMCs Keiron (faerie) and Mason (shifter).

I can't say much more without spoilers. If you've already read the first book, you understand what's going on. If you haven't read the first one, put this one down and go read the first one, The Cursed Kingdom.

Oh man I am devouring this series. I wish there were more books out. I absolutely loved the spice in this, like yes girl get your mates!! Also I am so confused about Lillian. Like she has this god necklace, which somehow made her create a fake mate bond? But then I guess she heard Mason and Abby and decided her plan was ruined and needed to up her actions so she killed the queen and ran off? I bet more than anything in the next book Lilly is gonna be found and be pissed off at Abby for stilling her mates. But also what is up with Callie still being alive? And her knowing that Abby was there mate is crazy. Like what was her plan. I just have so many questions
