One Boys' Love fan gets the ultimate fujoshi experience when they're reincarnated into a BL game as the brand-new main character!
When an office lady is reincarnated into the world of a spicy BL game she played, she's shocked to find out that she's now part of the story...as the younger brother of the main character! What's more, by the time "Akira" realizes what's going on, his older brother has already gotten together with one of the game's love interests! But what about the other boys? How will they cope with losing out on the beloved main character? And what's in store for the main pair after the credits roll? Akira couldn't have asked to be in a more delicious position! But the weird thing is...he doesn't remember there being a younger brother when he played the game?!
I doubt this will become any sort of a favorite series, but I do want to keep reading it to see what happens. It's probably the least serious BL I've read in a long time, and while I do tend to prefer stories that feel a bit more realistic, there's a certain value to the tongue-in-cheek playful ones, too.
Intentionally or not, I tend to read/watch a fair amount of isekai, and some are certainly better than others. This one takes a slightly more creative route, by having a fujo be reincarnated into the world of one of her favorite BL otome games, but without realizing it until the game's main plot has already concluded. She got slotted into the role of the game protagonist's younger brother, Akira, and lives entirely as Akira until he walks in on his brother, Makoto, making out with his "spring" route's endgame - his childhood best friend, Haru. (Was the original author a fan of FREE! or something?)
Akira, shocked and startled by discovering that his brother is gay and apparently in a relationship with the guy he's always seen as a second older brother, stumbles backwards and falls down the stairs, hitting his head. That jars a bunch of memories of his old life - or, at least, the knowledge that he used to be a fujo who was obsessed with this game and knew a lot about all the romantic interests.
From there, it...gets a little bit messy, honestly. I could do without the parts where Akira is excitedly listening in on his brother's makeout sessions. It doesn't come across as entirely creepy because there's still this sense that Akira is split between two souls, in a way - Makoto's little brother, and the fujo who entirely sees Makoto as a fictional character and not a family member.
I realize it would be an entirely different story, but I would've preferred taking out the entire isekai element and just having this be a funny, awkward, hair-pulling story about a guy who accidentally gets all his older brother's rejected love interests to fall in love with him. It doesn't actually need all the extra "fujo vision" second life stuff to make it interesting. I doubt that will be toned down as it goes on, but one can hope, I suppose.
This volume introduces what I assume will be the two worst love interests. Kind of disappointed to discover that the mysteriously shaggy dude on the cover and a couple color plates is very, very much not a great endgame route. While the janitor, Touma, is the game's most attractive character (once he cuts his hair and shows his face), he's also pretty terrible. He's the noncon route in the game, and now that Makoto has turned him down and gotten a boyfriend, he's completely obsessed with thoughts of finding ways to murder Haru so he can take Makoto back.
His texts with Akira are honestly really funny, because they're so incredibly over-the-top. And I like how exasperated Akira gets about it. You can't keep fantasizing about dropping flowerpots on a guy's head!! Calm down and cut your hair and tend your rose garden and find a new boyfriend.
Except that new love interest ends up being Akira, who thought he was handsome, sure, but didn't actually want to be in those aggressively obsessive scenes from the game.
The other love interest is the cherubic but equally pushy bottom, Kaede, who I do like, but not as a romantic partner. He and Akira have a very antagonistic relationship that feels extremely platonic/sibling-like, but Akira again doesn't realize that Kaede is transferring his adoration over from his brother. They're fun to watch interact, and Kaede does seem like he could be a pretty decent friend (protecting him from the janitor, for one thing) if he can just get past the part where he falls in love with anyone who's nice to him.
Akira, currently, is stuck somewhere between "regular straight dude who initially thought two dudes being together was weird" and "fujo who only wants to witness BL between other men and does not wish to be an active participant in it." Meaning he is not looking for a relationship at all and is therefore missing some of the less obvious signs of people being interested in him.
I typed "guys" at first but changed it to "people" because there are two female characters who're interested in him as well. At least, I assume the one who keeps glaring at him is probably doing so for tsundere reasons. Haru's little sister is obviously Akira's childhood love interest route, but...even though Akira keeps saying to himself that he'd want to eventually end up with a girl, I don't think this series would have a straight endgame...?
Kind of hard to predict it, though, because it's such a joke setup that it's difficult to see any of the romantic routes truly developing into anything emotionally substantial. But I am interested in the student council president and the mysterious new guy who must've been dropped into the game to replace Haru's route.
Now I realize I’m not really the target audience here, but for me this was simultaneously boring and cringe. The premise sounded amusing: a rabid fujoshi dies and is reincarnated into her favorite BL game as the hero’s younger brother. Unfortunately, that’s all this has. The protagonist has no depth, nothing interesting going on at all. Their main interest is in peeping at the hero’s private moments. Ick.
This probably makes more sense if you’re a fan of the more explicit tropes that play with power dynamics and such, but that’s not my thing. I just felt uncomfortable every time the adult janitor did something unequivocally creepy. Just no.
The art was fine, no issues. The writing felt flat, but it was serviceable. This just wasn’t for me. I wanted cute and quirky and this gave me creepy and boring. As always, YMMV.
This one has a very interesting concept that I find hilarious... The idea of a fan girl of BL getting trapped inside the little brother of the main character of one of the game she loves! The only thing that makes me frustrated is that the reincarnation aspect seems to have very little to do with anything other than saying this is a game and it had to be a female reincarnating as a boy. I feel like that's almost dodging the social acceptance angle. It almost feels like having this turning into a BL story is justified by having the main character's soul be female? But it's only like a tiny bit feeling that way since all the other BL aspects are in a very positive light and main characters just a super fangirl... He also clearly feels more the boy he grew up being then the barely remembered past life. I think it's pretty interesting that he is more interested in the idea of a girlfriend and watching the BL happening than being part of it.
Honestly the relationships are a hot mess but in the best way! It's hard to guess where things are going because there's so messy but they're not messing away that's bad writing they're messing away that's entertaining. I'm going to go read the next volume now...
I really hope the denial won't last. I'm feeling sorry for everyone involved with MC, including the brother.
There's one character (so far) who would be greatly improved by being jailed.
MC is so thoroughly in denial that they don't have any grasp of their actual reality. Or is it better to say that they don't consider themself as a real inhabitant of the world? "There is no way that anything would happen with me" can only be used as an excuse for so long. Personally, I'm only able to tolerate such attitude up to a certain point and no further.
This is a difficult review i wish i could do like a 2.75 star. I actually love this concept, it was cute at first, then the janitor came in n it got rlly gross rlly quick. I ship kaede i think that would honestly b cute but ewwwwww get that 25 year old psycho ass janitor OUT of here throw himself in the dumpster! If it weren’t for that this would have a much higher rating bc this concept is 100% targeted at me i am the audience for this.

I guess I could enjoy the premise of this if the third love interest wasn't a complete creep. Being hot doesn't excuse being a literal criminal. Otherwise the characters are cute. I kind of want a single volume manga of the older brother. Super not enthused by the "was a girl in the past" justification for bl.
While there is a 25yo and a high schooler as love interested the fact that it’s an otome reincarnation with the mc being a fujoshi at heart and the 25yo has mega beef with another high schooler bc they both like the mc was done so funnily and the fujoshi insisting that can’t be a part of BL bc it’s only to admire is amazing.
This was a lot of fun. It's very self aware, which helps with some of the more questionable things that happen. As our lead is learning, certain tropes are for fiction only. In real life, they'd be completely unacceptable. There's a lot of humor and a little bit of heart. Eager to see where this goes.
I can't say I think this was good... and I am judging myself. There was so much creepy stuff, the janitor, him listening to his brother.... but I liked it... So I am putting in a hold on the next one.
